I ordered a chicken fired steak and mashed potatoes to go, to eat over my lunch break at work. I got the food back to the shop, and discovered they didn't give me any gravy. The only complaint would be the desserts that they buy from the Walmart down the street. They should serve locally made pies, cakes and bread pudding. This place is a "diamond in the rough"! My son took me on a surprise "road trip", he drove from League City to Conroe to pick me up and told me to be ready at 6:00am.....! I'm an old person and an early riser so that's no problem........we drove to this little gem in Willis and had the most wonderful breakfast I've had in a very long time, probably not since I was just a kid from north Houston. The food is fantastic, genuine, home cooked, generous and the wait staff is friendly, helpful and very attentive! Your coffee cup never even got to 1/2 empty before they filled it. I'm almost hesitant to rant and rave about how great this place is because I know how busy places sometimes get after good reviews, but these folks work hard, deliver a first class product and deserve to have great business and prosper! Come hungry! We stopped in before going to the race track. At 4 in the afternoon the places was busy. Servers were especially nice and friendly. Food came out quick was excellent. We ordered the fried catfish and fried cod. My dad says best fried cod ever. Large sides served. You wont leave here hungry or without a doggie bag. We walked in and were told to seat ourselves. There were only 2 clean tables and both were so close to the kitchen it felt like you were sitting fireside. The other unoccupied tables were all dirty, so we sat near the kitchen. After about 5 minutes, one of the waitresses wiped down a table, so we moved. We sat for another 10 minutes, but none of the waitresses acknowledged our presence. No drinks, no menus, not even an, "I'll be with you in just a minute." Two different waitresses walked right past our table. After the second one, we got up and left. The food looked good, from what we could tell, but the service was awful, and it was stiflingly hot. We are just now moving to the Willis area & we were so lucky to find this place! We've been twice now...If you are one of the few liver & onions fan, you will love theirs (but ask for extra onions). The catfish is done perfect & their green beans taste like grandma's....fried oysters are a hit ! What I really want to acknowledge is that if you like to eat fairly healthy try the blackened fish particularly the flounder...it's awesome! I can only review the breakfast as I have only been there in the morning. My better half and I were in Willis, Texas and looking for a good breakfast place. I truly have found the best in the Fish Pond Restaurant, which to me is 95% better than the breakfast places in Houston where I am from. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and it came with cream gravy, hash browns and 2 eggs. When they brought the pizza size CFS I thought "What in the heck am I going to do with that?" Not only was it huge but it was made perfectly. It was crispy and thick, not beaten down to 1/32 of an inch like some places, and was easily cut with just a fork. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and moist and buttery in the middle. The eggs were made perfectly for both of us. (For some reason we can't seem to find over-medium eggs cooked correctly.) The better half had eggs, hash browns and ham. The ham was REAL ham and about 1/2 a pound. If you have ever seen the 1"X3"X1/16" piece of ham IHOP serves just multiply that times 20 and that's what you get at the Fish Pond Restaurant. We have always been able to finish our plates for breakfast anywhere but at the Fish Pond Restaurant we couldn't get halfway through. We had enough left over for another whole breakfast. Also, as we were finishing our coffee, we saw them take freshly baked dinner rolls out of the oven and asked for one. It was the lightest, fluffiest yeast roll we have ever tasted. We have been going to IHOP and Denny's and man, I will never go back after eating here. The chicken fried steak was made fresh, battered and fried, not the "Sysco/Costco" kind that comes frozen and they just basically heat it up. The two big breakfasts, 2 coffees and large milk came to under $17.00. That's $10.00 less than IHOP and 400% better. We will be going back for lunch and dinner to see what else could be great. The staff was very friendly and attentive, always there with more coffee when you needed it. read more

Our first time to eat here. My husband ordered the flounder and shrimp plate. Usually he is disappointed with the fish since he gets tilapia or catfish. We had the chicken fried steak, catfish, fried squash, okra, & mashed potatoes. We spent $21 which I feel is high for the quality of food. The potatoes are instant and the okra and squash are frozen out of a bag and deep fried. The chicken fried steak and catfish are also frozen then defrosted and hand battered. I know because I have worked at a place very similar and know how a business like this runs. There may be a few things on the menu that they home make that we didn't try, but most of the food is not fresh or homemade at all. The price is too high for the quality of food. The service was also mediocre where the gal checked all my boxes in front of me before putting it in the bag. The venue appears to be a disorganized mess and when I asked for a to go menu, they didn't have one. We will not be returning. You are better off paying for a $15 large pizza.
