Tonight we ordered a couple of $6.50 tacos with sauce on the side and [struggled] to order a $17 skirt steak burrito with the person taking the order. They put the sauce on the taco, which we realized when we got home with our take-out order. I even confirmed at pick-up, and was told... "yep, it's on the side." The skirt steak is really well done, but the attention to detail needs some help. I called to let them know of the mistake and the guy said, "ok." I am always on the hunt for restaurants that feature fish as the hero of the menu. Fish District is a casual fast restaurant offering a flexible menu that allows customers to pick a protein and then preparation style. The quality of food at this location is a step above most takeout in the area and I received my meal quickly. Bowls are apparently the star of the menu, and I wish that I had looked at the photos before ordering a wrap. I do not recommend the wraps at all, I received a tortilla filled with raw cabbage and seared rare tuna that I did not enjoy. When I asked the young staff member if the beans were prepared in vegetarian style he did not know the answer so I did not order them. The same staff member emptied and counted the tip jar in the dining area in front of customers even though his shift was not over which was awkward. Fish District offers good clean food, but could use a bit of training for the staff and a menu audit. read more

Its' not a restaurant that people are meant to stay long - many just do take out or delivery from here. I have had take out from Fish District two times. The first time I had a great salmon sandwich. Tonight I ordered the Kale/Salmon Bowl and the Calamari Fritti. The calamari was quite good but did not like the salmon & Kale bowl at all! The Salmon, sadly, was way overcooked and completely dried out. YUK!! A perfectly cooked piece of Salmon would have made all the difference! Also Could not detect the ginger in the kale. All the sauces included were good, especially the additional ($1) cocktail sauce. Sorry, but if you are a fish restaurant , you should have a cook that knows when to pull fish off the grill!! I'll be back, but will order in person so I will be sure to have a nicely cooked piece of fish! You do have a nice menu with lots of choices. read more

The shrimp were fried perfectly and the batter was very light which is perfect. The lettuce, tomatoes and pickles were fresh, colorful, crisp and tasty. The bread for the sandwich was soft and pillowy. The clam chowder was seasoned perfectly, no flour lumps and plenty of clams. The fish and chips were crispy with a flaky bite. Again the batter was thin but thick enough to coat the fish and very crispy. The Tatar sauce was a tad too sweet for me but still very good. The tuna melt was soooo good and I don't like tuna melts. From the moment we walked in, he was were attentive, friendly, and genuinely interested in making sure we had an amazing food experience there. We asked for recommendations, and he did not disappoint! His suggestions for the fish tacos, poke bowl, & clam chowder were spot on--all dishes were absolutely delicious. Not only was he helpful to us, but we noticed he were equally attentive to everyone around, making sure each table had everything they needed. It's rare to find someone who cares so much about customer satisfaction, and Taylor truly went above and beyond. Honestly, he deserves a promotion for his dedication and impeccable service. Stopped in for a quick lunch before heading out for a day at the beach. You order at the counter and they'll bring it to your table. I think they also have online ordering too. Most people seemed to be getting their order to go, but their dining room has plenty of seating. Our order came out in a reasonable amount of time, but I wouldn't exactly call it "fast". Worth the wait! I tried their poke tacos. I loved the wonton shells. The poke was fresh and I very much enjoyed every bite. I don't remember what my boyfriend got, but he enjoyed it as well. This place has always been a favorite. This place is amazing fresh seafood at very reasonable prices and consistently prepared every time. What I love is it is so customizable (fish wraps, bowls toppings etc). Service here is also always the best. Highly recommend. Very solid spot. It's in a strip mall a bit off the beaten path but it's really beautiful inside and the food is great. The grilled fish taco was huge and super flavorful. The fish and chips were also great. The breading reminded me of a corn dog in the best way possible and the fries were delicious. This review is for Fish District in Solana Beach; I have not eaten at or ordered from the others. So often fish and chips are disappointing, either because the fish is too greasy, or the breading is too mushy, or there is much more breading than there is fish. Fish District in Solana Beach, though, has great fish and chips. There is plenty of fish under that batter/breading and biting into it provides a satisfying crunch. Even when we've had it delivered, it was still hot and crisp when it arrived and when we actually sat down to eat it! I've also had the fries, fried calamari, New England clam chowder, and Manhattan clam chowder and enjoyed them all. I am especially pleased about Fish District offering Manhattan clam chowder because it is my favorite but it is hard to find on menus in the Northwest, Southwest, Midwest, and West. I've had fish and chowder delivered and I've eaten in the restaurant. Both were positive experiences. I am giving Fish District four stars instead of two for the following reasons: First, although the fries taste good, I would rather they were not battered because the batter makes them much higher in carbs. Fries are unhealthy enough as an occasional treat so they do not need to be made worse. I did not realize they were battered the first time I ate fries from Fish District (I had not placed the order) and my glucose level went through the roof. I realized why later when I saw the menu and read "battered fries." If Fish District wants to serve battered fries, fine, but offer customers a choice of battered or non-battered. Second, I think the soup is overpriced. Despite those two issues, Fish District is my go-to for fried fish and Manhattan clam chowder. I just do not eat any of the fries! read more

Sawyer makes this place the best. With a huge smile and with detail he explains the menu. The food was exceptional. Had the manhattan chowder and a salmon sandwich. Wife had a salmon taco. Back to Sawyer...he served all the food as quickly as it came from the kitchen, not just for us, but for everyone. He never rested. Stopped here based on the other reviews. The menu items looked great especially having young kids. I got the catch of the day plate with mahi mahi "piccata" style. I got the mixed veggies with sweet potato fries. The fish tasted fresh but tasted more like it was blacked or bbq. Not how I expected. The veggies were mostly bell peppers and just too overwhelming in bell pepper flavor. My husband got the mahi mahi burger and he said the coleslaw was so plain and didn't have any flavor seasoning. My son had the 3 piece fish and chips. Very generous portions. Way skimpy on the sauce. They even forgot the sauce and we had to ask for it. My other son had the kids chicken tenders and fries. He like them and are most of his plate. Generous serving on the fries. The food was just ok. Everything needing seasoning or more flavor. The situation with needing sauces and ketchup is really inconvenient. Having to wait and ask. I don't think we'd come back. I went to the Solana Beach location. The lady at the register could barely speak English and I couldn't understand her. She was extremely rude because she had to keep repeating herself. This has happened twice to me now that I've been there. I ordered the three-piece fish and chips and they gave me one small tartar sauce. I requested another one and they wanted to charge me a dollar for it. The young guy assisting her was also very rude. They are clearly very unhappy, unprofessional, and the service could not have been worse. Came by here for a quick dinner and it's a great spot for something casual and tasty. I got the Traditional Style Wrap with Mahi Mahi in it. I absolutely wanted to love it because I was excited about the House Sriracha but unfortunately it was so mild that I barely tasted it. The rest is the ingredients were light and fresh but unfortunately, I found the wrap overall pretty bland and lacking of flavor. I tried some of my friend's fries and those were well done and super tasty. I think I'll have to come back and check out another item on the menu to see what the excitement is about! read more

The Combo tray was nice for someone who couldn't decide between shrimp and fish. The Clam Chowder was amazing; however, my son said it's too meaty. One of the better seafood experiences I've had on my trip to San Diego. The ordering process is alittle confusing, so be sure to ask questions about the menu! I got the Kale Caesar salad and it was light with strong flavors (very filling too). I got the coastal style beer batter taco and it was very fresh and had great tropical flavors to accompany it! The salmon I got was cooked perfectly and came with coleslaw(average) and decent sweet potato fries. The piccata sauce is very rich and aromatic! If you are hankering for fish and chips then you NEED to go to the Fish District. It was the best fish and chips I've had almost ever! We got a three piece and shared it along with fried calamari and seaweed salad. The fried fish was hot right out of the fryer and incredibly crispy without being oily! The fried calamari was only meh. It would have been excellent of they had used the fried fish batter. The batter on the calamari was more like a bread crumb dredge so the calamari was dry, hard and chewy. The seaweed salad was good and typical, cold and vinegary in a good way. We sat inside and the air conditioner was cranked up pretty high and the music was pretty loud. SO I would recommend bringing a jacket with you if you are going to sit inside and don't expect to be able to have an intimate conversation with the loud music playing. They do have a few tables outside which might be a better option. I highly recommend it for the fish and chips and the seaweed salad. I would pass on the fried calamari unless they can make it with the fried fish batter. read more
