Parking at Fish Bone was easy thanks to a big lot out front, which is always a relief. Walking in, the inside of the restaurant wasn't much to talk about pretty simple and low-key, but it was clean and comfortable enough for a casual spot. The staff was nice not over friends but welcoming. The first time I went was yesterday, they were close to closing so they were out of catfish so I came back today! For my order, I went with the Catfish Dinner, which came with three pieces of catfish, crinkle-cut fries, potato salad, a roll, and sauces. I actually received four pieces of fish, which I appreciated since the pieces weren't very big. The fish itself was a bit of a letdown, though. From the photos I'd seen online, I expected golden-brown fillets with a light, crispy crust. Instead, what I got looked like it had been fried hard. The crust was very dark and the catfish inside was slightly overcooked, leaving it dry instead of tender and flaky. The seasoning was there and the flavor wasn't bad, but the golden look that first sold me on ordering, wasn't there. The fries were solid and did their job crispy enough on the outside with a soft inside. The potato salad, on the other hand, wasn't very good. It seemed like it was made with pre-cut potatoes, and it had a processed taste and texture that felt out of place next to the rest of the plate. The roll was soft, and the sauces (especially the hot sauce) helped add some extra kick, but none of it could cover up the fact that the fish was just cooked too hard. Overall, I can see why people love Fish Bone and especially their catfish, but I think I just got a bad batch this time. The staff was wonderful, the parking was easy, and the meal was filling, but I left a little disappointed because I wanted that golden, flaky fish I'd seen in the pictures. First impressions mean a lot when trying a new restaurant, and this one left me feeling disappointed. If this had happened on a second visit, I might have been more forgiving and chalked it up to an off day. But since this was my first time at Fish Bone, it's hard to want to go back when the main dish, the catfish, was a let down. I can see why people love this spot and maybe I just got a bad batch, but for me, the experience wasn't enough to earn a return visit. read more

Fried fish, shrimp, and hush puppies, YES!!! I love that they had fresh fish for you to choose from. Everything tasted fresh and the dipping sauces made them better. Service was good. It's fast-casual so order and take out or eat there. Not much service they can provide but they are friendly and explain the options and choices well to a first timer. I got to choose the exact fish pieces I wanted and the server took them to the back to be fried. Only con for me was the wait time for the food to be ready. I understand it takes time for food to cook once you order it but I felt it was unusually long. Maybe I was there on an off day OR they "misplaced" my order for the first few minutes. I will definitely come back to try again. read more

The catfish was fried extra crispy, the greens were delicious, and everything was freshly made. I'm happy there's a Fish Bone nearby when I'm craving seafood. They also serve oysters, shrimp, tilapia, salmon, etc. and have grilled options. read more

I loved all my food. We shared the Shrimp basket and Catfish basket. Both we fried to perfection in my eyes. Crispy, crunchy and hot. The top 3 that I look for in fish. Affordable still considering, your not cooking. The young women at the counter taken our order was nice. The place isn't big but if you want to dine in you can. I will be back for that Red Snapper Po'Boy. Oh! My cousins' boyfriend got a Catfish Po boy, it was the biggest Po' boy I have ever seen. It made me think twice about what I order. lol. Keep frying up that good stuff! read more

The restaurant never opens on time and the time to cook the food takes very long. I know its fresh but it doesn't not take 30 minutes to fry seafood. It's 12pm in a Saturday and the restaurant is still closed. No sign indicating it will be close today. I have seen about 4 people walk up and had to turn around. read more

I had high expectations for this place, My first impression will be my last impression. As I was ordering i overheard staff talking about a customer in a very negative way, totally rubbed me the wrong way. Parking was great , ambience was a bit off. They definitely need more indoor seating. Pricing was reasonable, My shrimp and fish was missing the flavor but overall OK ! read more

This place is a gem! They have freshly filleted fish and quite a few types! We got the family meal with 8 pieces of sole and 10 shrimps. The breading was flavorful and best of all, it was not greasy! We also had hush puppies as well as red beans and rice. The Cajun tartar sauce was very good and I think the hot sauce might be Louisiana. I think it's a husband and wife team. The woman working in the back came out to see how things were and had some small talk with the customers. It's nice a bright inside and it does not smell like fried fish at all inside! If you go, enjoy!! read more

Fish & hush puppies are fried exceptionally! Try going early around lunch, etc. as they tend to run out of catfish filet. Service tends to be slow at times but that unfortunately is a byproduct of Gen-Z employees. Definitely worth a try as you don't have to explain how to cook catfish or explain "cook hard" to minimize wetness! read more

Found this place on yelp and drove over 30 miles let me tell you the food is excellent flavor and freshness very clean place small but well worth the drive. Will definitely be back. Love Fish bone! The food is always so fresh and seasoned to perfection. Ive always been afraid of oysters- but fishbone has me hooked! You can order two different flavors lemon pepper or cajun. They are super friendly and wont have you waiting long. The last time I came someone order 40 pieces of fish- its just THAT GOOD! There is plenty seating, its always clean and the tv has nostalgia 90s music videos playing. My go to spot on Friday nights for fish. The last time I was running late on a Sunday I called the order in and they took it over the phone- it was ready and still steaming hot when I arrived. I appreciate how accommodating they are. If you haven't tried just go you wont be disappointed. Thank you Fish Bone! We love you! read more

I started to enter with my Yorkshire Terrier. Before I could enter the door, a woman who identified yourself as the owner yelled loudly, "Ah 'on 'llow no animals in my business". She does not know the law, further demonstrated by the fact that she was also serving food without hair covering. read more

Men and my wife Monica ate at Fishbone Downtown Long Beach location. We met the owners Greg and his wife. They are the nicest people. Their food was amazing. I had the Catfish meal with side of Red Beans & Rice and and Greens and my wife had the 10 piece shrimp work a side of fries. Everything was perfect. The fish was soft on the inside with a nice crispy outside. The red beans and rice were so good and the greens were fire! My wife loved the shrimp and the fries were seasoned with seasoning...maybe Cajun seasoning. Not really sure but whatever it is it was bomb. I have a new spot and I suggest if you like great food and friendly service and your near DTLB, I would highly suggest you stop by and say hi to Greg and his wife. We definitely will be. read more

Fish Bone - Fried catfish fried oysters, fried shrimp, rice, collard greens, french fries buns - Seafood Near Me - Long Beach, California

It was extremely inconvenient and frustrating. I placed an online order two hours before closing, and it was accepted, so I assumed everything was fine. I waited for an hour with no updates, only for them to cancel my order because they were closing... like bruh. Why accept an order that far before closing if you're not going to fulfill it? That's a huge waste of time and shows poor communication. This experience felt unprofessional and really disappointing. read more

Pretty good meal! I got the fried catfish (no bones inside) and shrimp plate with potato salad and beans and rice! The catfish i have to say was the star of the show being very crispy and fresh. I could of just eaten that all day! The shrimp was ok. Potato salad was solid, beans and rice just ok, i only ate half of it and comes with a dinner roll for $20.00 bucks. If your looking for a quick seafood fix this spot is a good option. They have a pretty solid lineup of seafood to choose from. The place is in great shape being clean and spotless. Check them out. Wishing them well on the new business. My review Catfish = 8.5/10 Some of the best catfish around Potato salad = 8/10 Very tasty Fried shrimp = 7.5/10 Beans and rice 5/10 I wasn't feeling but you might. I didn't taste much flavor from it. read more

Customer service from the owner and workers. The prices and the size of the fish. And the wait time is horrible. It was always a lady there. And no I never meet you. Too slow. By the time you receive your order, your hunger will be uncontrollable. We ordered at 12:25p. Auto text said it would be ready at 12:49p. I'm still waiting.....It's 1:27p. Finally food in hand at 1:32p with no remorse or sympathy for the lengthy wait time. Food was so-so. Maybe because it was lukewarm. There's potential, but be sure to wear your 'die hard optimist' gear. The front counter girl is too preoccupied with her own pity party to be helpful. read more

I'm addicted to this food. Never greasy and you can see the fish you will eat in their display case. The sides are equally delicious. 4.5-5/5 This place was delicious :) the service here was very good, and the establishment is neat and clean. Everything here was good. The fried fish was moist and crispy. The sides were all super enjoyable. I was having a hard time deciding between the garlic bread and the hush puppies, and the lady at the counter said I couldn't go wrong with either. Those hush puppies are moist and delicious and well seasoned. The potato salad was also well mixed and seasoned. The tartar sauces are perfect and home made. The dill added such a tasty freshness to the sauce. The hot sauce reminds me of Red Hot, strong in vinegar flavor and 2/5 spiciness The place is super neat, came in on a Sunday afternoon. The owner was in. There were a few tables, not too many, maybe they'll fill it in more over time or they make a lot from pick up. Parking was easy going, the location is in a strip center. Good, reliable quality and great flavors here. I would consider this place to stop by for some yummy lunch. Value is great for seafood. It was lunch but we ordered "dinner" serving size. My mom couldn't finish her 3rd piece of fish, 2 is enough. Had to help her finish! Suggestion: maybe serve the hush pups split open? I think they'd look more enticing. You obviously know they're good when you take a bite, but if there's a way to make them look good before trying them, people will opt more for them, if not already! read more

You buy we fry type of place in a small strip mall. The place was newer and clean. The cashier was professional. Ordered a fried fish, shrimp, and oyster combo. While there aren't a lot of choices for fish, snapper and catfish were available and those work for me so I went with the snapper. It was all cooked to perfection but the oysters and shrimp were better seasoned to me. The combo included 2 sides. I went with red beans & rice and hush puppies. Hush puppies were perfect, but the red beans were about as bland as I've ever had. The value of the combo for the price was a little lacking, but I would get it again. One nice option is to get grilled fish. This was a nice treat! read more

At best, this place is ok and worth trying if you love fish fry. I thought I would try a new place that's close to me, but I think I will keep driving up to the #1 Fish Market near Market and Atlantic. This place has better service for sure, but the other place gets you more bang for your buck and hits home with what you expect from a fish fry spot. Service: 10/10 The service was decent, everyone was really friendly. The food did take a bit longer, but it was ready within a reasonable timeframe considering it was made fresh and there were only one or two people ahead of us. Ambience: 10/10 Everything looks really clean, and it's spacious with a good amount of indoor seating. Food: 7/10 I had higher expectations, but unfortunately, the seasoning fell short. While not terrible, the slightly overcooked fish was a bit disappointing. read more

The food was super fresh & crispy! I will definitely be back! I got the fish (catfish) and shrimp combo with hush puppies & fries as my two sides. I'm assuming the bread comes on the side (I didn't eat it so I can't say much, the main entree had me too full lol) the price is also great for the plate & extra hush puppies that I ordered! It's not really a dine in area, more like a chinese takeout in the DMV area if you know what I mean! Reminds me of home so I can't complain about that but they do have seating & tables if you prefer to eat in tho; just not many on the days it's busy! I can't forget about the Cajun tartar sauce which made it even better! The Cajun tarter was a 10/10 read more
