I heard about Fish & Chicks on my Facebook feed for locals and also on Yelp. We decided to spin the meal wheel for a quick place to grab a late lunch. We walked in to a really cozy but welcoming place. The cashier was the most polite and knowledgeable young person I have met in awhile. He took our order, made recommendations and rang us up. We sat down and waited for our food a bit. Omg the food was absolutely amazing. The best spots are found on the spur of the moment and this was no exception. What sold us even more was the owner came out, greeted us and chatted a little while. We were able to give him immediate feedback and the highest of praises for his restaurant from the delightful young man to the food to the decor. We are sold and this will be a regular on our list. The food: I got the shrimp fried rice, lemon pepper bone in wings and red beans and rice. We split the boiled shrimp. My husband got the catfish, tilapia and shrimp basket with fried okra. Everything was excellent! But if I had to pick, the shrimp fried rice with the small onion bits won! The lemon pepper wings second and the fried okra was amazing! We stumbled upon this place one night after a comedy show at Voice. Surprisingly, there was no one inside. The team there was very patient with us taking our time to check out the menu. I eventually settled on the 6-piece fried platter with catfish and shrimp. I had okra for my side along with hushpuppies. We started the meal with the boudin egg rolls. They were so much better than we could have anticipated. The food was brought out to our table and it was FRESH!!! I love that so much!! My husband had their spicy chicken rice bowl and he loved his meal as well. It's a nice and quiet place on Barker Cypress that I definitely plan on visiting again. They had the music playing at a nice volume and funny videos on the televisions to keep you occupied. I ordered 2 grilled fish platters which totaled to about over $30.00 and the cashier who was a young girl only gave me 1 tartar sauce. I kindly asked her for another tarter sauce, and she told me that tartar sauce is not typically included in grilled platters, and she charged me 0.37 for a second tartar sauce. I've been coming to this location for years, and have never been charged for extra tartar sauce until this new girl started. I even left a tip when placing my order online, I honestly feel that this situation could have been handled better and she definitely needs better training on customer service. read more

Nothing was fresh, except maybe the hush puppies. The catfish looked more like small chicken tenders in size and seem to out of the box as a frozen product. Same for the shrimp although they were of good size. The French fries were definitely frozen fries just deep fried up. Cole slaw was runny and clearly, again, not fresh but out of a commercially sourced product. Service was okay ... even friendly. A LONG TIME LOCAL FAVORITE I recently stopped here for some fried shrimp and oysters. I absolutely love fried seafood especially when it's done right. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and welcomed by a young lady named Miya. She was extremely friendly and professional in her approach. There was another worker that appeared from the kitchen as I was placing my order by the name of KJ and he was also extremely friendly and kind, greeting me and welcoming me with a smile. I was really impressed with their positive attitudes, because they both appeared to be high school students. If anyone knows me well, they would know that I am one who absolutely appreciates great customer service. In this day and age, it's rare to find young teenagers with exuberant personalities and professional customer service skills in the workplace. Most of them are not too enthused to be at work because they would rather be somewhere with their faces buried in a cell phone. I'm just saying. This establishment has been owned by several different owners which is evident in the way the food is prepared. The food is still delicious as it was years ago when I first started eating here. However, the fried shrimp and oysters now consist of a thick battered coating, which is different from the original owner's recipe. I did not find the thick battered coating desirable. BUT, the food was served fresh and piping hot! Both the shrimps and the oysters were delicious! Also, the shrimps are a nice size, so you don't feel like you have been robbed after purchasing them. I highly recommend the fried seafood here if you can tolerate that thick battered coating that's on it. Also, in the past years when I frequently fancied this place before my big weight loss, my younger son and I would always stop by on Tuesdays and order the wings. The original owners used to have a wing special every Tuesday and the wings were delicious and inexpensive! In fact, they were so delicious that I had them to cater their traditional bone-in wings for my son's high school graduation party which was back in 2021. So, I'm not sure if the wings are still as delicious as they were back then, but the seafood sure is. As I stated before, if you can tolerate the thick batter that they are coating the fried seafood with, then you will definitely enjoy it. Although they have gravitated a little from the original owners' recipe, they are still serving the food hot and fresh and the shrimps are still a nice size. Overall, Fish and Chicks is a one of a kind hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves up hot and quick meals that will hit the spot when you're hungry and in the mood for some finger-licking cuisine. The dining room is always clean and well organized. I have never witnessed it ever being unclean. They also have tv monitors mounted on the walls for entertainment while dining. I highly recommend it for those who live within close proximity or for anyone who is in the area. However, I would not recommend that you drive 30 miles to give it a try because it's not that good, lol. They are located in a business strip surrounded by other businesses such as, Bounce Bounce Trampoline Park, The Voice Karaoke Bar, and more. Parking is very plentiful! read more

I'm gonna go ahead and say that their wings are pricey and it took quite a while for me to get my food, but their food is so yummy, they are forgiven! I always say that I will pay good money for good food, and this place is well worth it. Yes the winds comes at like $2 per wing, but the rest of their menu is pretty standard - for example their fried rice is only $3 if you add it in your wing order, their fried catfish and tilapia were like $2.50 each. They have platters less than $15. All in all, I would say this is one of the best wing places out here - and I've been looking for 7 months. Their mango habanero and spicy Korean wings were FIRE! Reluctantly I'm dropping a star, although it has been my go to spot for the past couple of years. What I've noticed recently is that serving size has decreased, prices have increased, and now they've also discontinued their Monday thru Thursday daily specials. With that, my visits from 1-2 a week have dwindled down to like once every 3-4 weeks. Looks like I'm phasing this one out eventually. The last few times I went with Korea spicy boneless and boned wings. Catfish and fries on another occasion but they just seemed ok. Nothing for me to brag about as before. Couple of times I did notify manager about my dissatisfaction with food, so he did fix those problems, but they didn't happen before. If I had to rank the items as far as what was my favorite, I'd probably have to say the wings were my #1. The poboy would be my #1A because it was also delicious, but those wings were LEGIT. The boudain egg rolls were okay in my opinion, but I'd probably try a different option next time. As soon as I put the food in my car, the spicy lemon pepper smelled was overwhelming in the best way possible, so as you can see from my pic, I had to taste. The service was quick and friendly this is just an honest review solely based on the food. The chicken tenders we got looked big and moist, but it ended up being dry and tasting kind of odd. I was disappointed in the batter because the pictures on yelp looked so different so it was kind of a limpy tender. As a side we had fried rice and it honestly just tasted like soy sauce and onions, no wok flavor.The oysters were fried nicely however, they smelled and tasted so fishy and shriveled up under the batter. I really love it here. The food has always been very good and I like that each order is made when you order it instead of being made beforehand and sitting under a heat lamp. The fries are hot and crispy, as is the catfish fillet for the catfish sandwich. My wife will get the chicken tenders and the meat is juicy - a sign that it is NOT overcooked. We love their gumbo - thick, full of seafood and delicious. And I love their fried rice; it's my favorite side dish. I know we will continue to go there often.
