I got the Shrimp PoBoy with stuffed jalapenos. It was really good! Baguette was soft enough but still had it's baguette-feel. It was very generously packed with fried shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo. I added some hot sauce to give it a kick. Stuffed jalapenos were freshly made and I almost burned my tongue from the melted cheese! Lastly, my mom got the fried catfish and shrimp platter with fried rice and toast. Fried rice was really good and had generous portions of shrimp and vegetables in it. Both the catfish and shrimp were well fried and crispy. It's a Friday during Lent and I decided to give this place a shot. Thanks to the guy who posted the picture of the menu. Between that and the reviewer who mentioned the grilled tilapia, I figured I'd take a chance on this place and I'm glad I did. It was a quick drive from my work, so I called in the order, drove over, picked up the food and found the tilapia to be delicious. Next time I'll ask them to go easy on the onions, but the fish itself had a good flavor and texture. Their shrimp fried rice was a pretty good sized portion. Although, it tasted kind of bland, it wasn't overly oily and had a good texture. To get both the fish and rice for just under $10 is a bargain compared to most seafood places. As a person who has been going to this establishment for 5+ years now, I will have to say it's a shame to see it has dwindled to this. I'm not sure if the place was bought out or just a change in management but I can tell the fish is cheaper. Before my car would smell like the spices used on the flounder but now it just smells really fishy. The Gumbo is full of shrimp and bit of fish with a nice thick roux and pack with yummy goodness. I love that they sever flounder and just not catfish, because I'm not a big fan of catfish. The grilled flounder and shrimp are well seasoned and a very good price. They also sell Tilapia, crabs and salads for the people who just eat salad. The pricing for their seafood is very affordable for a large family, which they do have family packages. My Daughters like the hamburgers they sell too, just in case your little ones are not into seafood. The hamburgers are big & juicy, which come with your choice of fries or onion rings. They have Fried Steak or Chicken burger, chicken nuggets, chicken wings, Philly Cheese Steak Basket and Po-Boys. The fried shrimp baskets are also a good value with a nice cornmeal not flour, which I prefer because they are season well. Don't forget to pick up some boudin balls these are the best I have had. I have yet to try the egg rolls, and I forgot you get a choice of fries or Chinese rice. I'm not a fan of rice but this fried rice is very good, with a large side of fried shrimp. It does have a small dinning area but its clean, I love that they keep the restaurant clean, and it doesn't smell fishy inside. Very small place with a few tables and Spanish music playing in the back ground. I ordered grilled tilapia with fried shrimp it came with shrimp fried rice. I wasn't impressed with the shrimp they were bread battered (too thick) and under seasoned. However to my delight the grilled tilapia was bursting with flavor and fresh, it even had a delicious sauce on top smothered in onions, Yum! The fish was excellent with the rice I loved it! I grew up in south Mississippi and last lived in Louisiana so I admit I'm a tough critic on seafood, but this is the worst seafood I've ever attempted to eat and a complete waste of $10. If you think oh it was only $10 what do you expect... I would say to I have had better for less in Houston i.e. Lotus Seafood. As for this place....Neither the fries, shrimp, nor fish tasted like it had ever even been in the same room as salt. I don't like a lot of salt, but drowned my fries in salt and ketchup just to eat something on my plate. I also had to dip the 6 shrimps I had in cocktail and tarter sauce to get those down. But when it came to the fish, there was no saving grace. I just tore it to shreds looking for an answer as to why it was so disgusting. Problem number one is the batter. It taste and looks like a piece of fish encased in bricks of cornmeal. If you break up the pocket of corn meal as I did you will discover a watery piece of fish cake with residue seasoning from the cornmeal brick. I'm sorry, but baby this is not how good seafood is fried. Seasoning/salt and cornmeal should be mixed together and it should not separate from the food. Anything else is criminal. If nothing else go pick up some Zatarain's or Louisiana Fish fry. The guy at the counter had not so great energy about him as well. I get people have bad days. I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a family friend. Took my parents, brother, sister and sister-in-law. We sat at the Family Table and the owner, Hector, was a wonderful Host! For starters, we had appetisers of Jalapeno Poppers and Fried Cheese Sticks with homemade Marinara Sauce. Then, we had the Cheeseburger Basket, the Seafood Basket, the Grilled Tilapia, Fried Catfish Basket and Fried Tilapia Basket. Holy cow! Our food was so delicious and the portions were HUGE! We left there comfortably stuffed and very satisfied! I don't know what Dawn M and DeAnza C's problems were that caused them to write such crummy and UNTRUE reviews, but, our experience was GREAT! Each of the customers that arrived after we did, were extremely pleased with their meals and took the time to tell Hector. The guy never sat down! Constantly in motion, cleaning, assisting customers, taking orders, advising the staff. The restaurant is clean, the bathroom is clean. This is a restaurant run by an owner who cares about the quality of the food he serves and the cleanliness of the business he runs. I highly recommend Captain's Seafood!
