Best Matcha I've ever had in Maui! So many different flavor options, all delicious :)

First Wave Coffee 214 Ho'okele St, Maui, HI 96732 First Wave Coffee sits humbly in a parking lot, a trailer marooned between asphalt and sky. Its modest exterior belies the majesty it overlooks--a sweeping, cinematic vista of Kahului Bay, the vast Pacific Ocean, and the quaint bustle of Kahului below. It's a view that demands poetry but settles for practicality, framed by concrete and commerce but alive with salt air and open possibility. My wife and I ordered the Hapa, a name that promised fusion, a meeting of worlds, and it delivered precisely that. The first sip was a revelation. Here was a blend that danced on the palate with a splendid balance of coffee, coconut, and honey. Each element played its part with poise--the coffee standing tall and proud, the coconut softening its edges, and the honey lending a whisper of sweetness that elevated but never overwhelmed. There was harmony here, a subtlety that is all too rare in the world of novelty coffee. This was not a sugary stunt or a desperate attempt to appease the masses. It was thoughtful, deliberate, and crafted with a restraint that can only come from confidence. And then, the view. Kahului Bay stretched out before us, its waters shimmering under the Maui sun, folding gently into the endless Pacific beyond. The city below bustled quietly, an echo of human life dwarfed by the sheer scale of sea and sky. It's a tableau of contrasts--urban and natural, still and restless, finite and infinite. To drink a Hapa here is to sip on paradox, a modern creation set against an ancient panorama. There is no curated ambiance, no faux-rustic décor or pretentious seating arrangements. Just you, your coffee, and the world laid bare before you. And somehow, that makes it all the more profound. The simplicity of the setting forces you to focus on the essentials--the taste of the Hapa, the salt on the breeze, the curve of the bay meeting the horizon. First Wave Coffee is an exercise in humility and excellence. It doesn't scream for attention, doesn't bother with airs or graces. But its Hapa is a masterpiece, and its view is nothing short of breathtaking. This is not just a coffee stop; it's an experience, a moment of pause in a world that spins too fast. The ocean moves relentlessly, the city hums below, but here, for just a little while, time stands still. Five stars. Because life is about balance, and First Wave Coffee understands that perfectly--both in the cup and beyond it. read more

This place is hands down the best coffee shop on Maui. It's run by two of the most genuine gentlemen you'll ever meet -- their manners, personalities, and energy make the whole experience unforgettable. The service is top-tier every single time, and the coffee? Easily the best on the island. Smooth, rich, perfectly crafted, and made with real care. Unbelievable, made me a totally new kind of drink, a hojicha latte without milk --a Hojichano! It was delicious, this place is top notch!

Definitely a must go to spot! The employee inside was SO nice and friendly and even gave us some tips for our trip. The coffee was also delicious! I ordered an iced coconut milk latte and it was perfectly strong and the coconut milk was delicious. Definitely a must go to place if you're in the area! read more

I haven't been to a coffee store in a year because quite frankly most places' espresso shots tasted water down. My Nespresso at home makes richer and smoother offerings. Saw this stand on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try. I originally intended on getting the Haupia (their original) but got the Shore Break because the guy in front of me got it and it's the most popular drink. It has four lovely rich shots of espresso and just the right amount of sweetness. This is yummy and set apart from any of the other coffee stand offerings around. The Barista was cheery and ha'a ha'a (humble) on this Aloha Friday. Go visit. You will not be disappointed. read more

First Wave Coffee - Shore Break! 4 shots of yummy perfection! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Maui, Hawaii

My new go-to coffee on Maui! From the moment we pulled up, Jansen was so kind and went over each drink. I ordered the Shore Break (hot) and it had the perfect balance of mac nut to white mocha. We also got the chocolate banana bread and recommend that with your coffee. Service: This cannot be understated, but the service here is awesome and full of aloha. Even when the line got busy, he was attentive to his customers! read more

Absolutely incredible! Their signature lattes are simple flavors combos that are sooooo good. Super friendly baristas. Will most likely be returning everyday for the rest of our trip! read more

I went to 4 different coffee shops on my trip to Maui , this one was by far my FAVORITE. The two gentlemen there were extremely friendly. The drinks were just what I needed. I don't spend money on coffee that isn't worth it, this coffee was worth every penny. It was the last thing I bought in Maui before leaving, definitely ended my trip with some delicious coffee + matcha (bought two drinks, I couldn't choose. Everything looked too good :)) . Everything was clean, tidy and just overall amazing. Definitely recommend this place! read more

Cute, Family-owned Coffee Trailer located in the Lowes parking lot (across Lumber area). There are no food items on their menu however, their drinks are definitely worth going for. Their drink menu is simple and very easy to figure out what you'd like. We love going for their Shore-Break and a simple vanilla latte. We've been going at least 3x a week since they've opened and the great coffee quality is consistent each time. You'll meet Jansen, barista and owner of the trailer once you arrive. The service matches the quality of coffee. Jansen is great and loves meeting and getting to know his customers. He also now remembers our drink orders which we appreciate his attention detail. We are definitely regulars for this coffee trailer. Follow them on Instagram for hours of operation and updates. We love supporting this family-owned business. read more

Amazing service and even more amazing coffee! I got the "upcountry latte" and it was exactly what I wanted, not overly sweet, perfectly balanced and gorgeous latte art! The vibe of the little food truck is very clean, the menu is easy to read and very impressive with such little space! (can't wait to see where the business grows to!) Take it from coffee snobs, (NOT Starbucks) this is the best coffee espresso drinks on the island. We travel the world looking for the best coffee experiences, and Jansen always has a great pull, delivered with unforgettable Aloha. He constantly tunes his machines to deliver a constant artisan cup. Jansen knows everyone, and when you walk up the second time, you are a friend. Come for the coffee, the best matcha on the island, but don't forget the homemade cookies and the home made cinnamon rolls. We like other coffee shops for other reasons, but if you just want a smooth cup of espresso, paired with your favorite milk and flavor, or no flavor at all, this is the place. read more

These guys are so nice that it teeters on awkward/disingenuous. That said, great experience! Very accommodating of my young daughter's requests. I myself was pretty straightforward with an americano but it was very good. Too many gourmet shops lose "the coffee" if that makes sense. I'm not a sweet coffee guy but have had a couple of theirs in the past. Both were very good. read more

First Wave Coffee - Shore break - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Maui, Hawaii

I'm a matcha girly, and this was my first time visiting maui and i wanted to try all the places that had matcha. So, i searched up first wave coffee and was so excited to try it. sadly, when i went it was my last day on the island and they ran out of matcha :( but they recommended me their hojiacha latte and it was 10/10. Similar to matcha but also very toasty and more earthy type of taste. i was also informed that someone had paid for my drink which was so sweet! Overall, next time i visit from mainland, I'll come back here to try their matcha and hojicha again! read more
