We have been regular customers at your locations on Big Beaver at Rochester and Maple at Coolidge since they opened, but our visit yesterday, 03/03/2020 at 11:00 AM at the Somerset location was a disaster. We were greeted by the hostess and she seated us promptly upon entering the restaurant, but we sat at our table for ten minutes without a waitress/waiter coming to introduce him or herself. To add insult to injury two parties of two people were seated at separate tables after us and they were greeted by a waitress within sixty seconds of them sitting down. This is the second time we have had this experience at First Watch. We had the same experience at your Troy location about a year ago, but this time we walked out of the restaurant. To make matters worse, the hostess just watched us leave. She was looking right at us as she walked to the coffee station and toast area. No one said a word to us-what a joke. You guys need to get your stuff together. The very idea that the wait staff was so focused on taking care of themselves and worrying about their individual needs that we got overlooked by multiple waiters. All it took was for someone to walk up and say, "Have you been helped yet? ...I'll take your drink orders to get you going, what are you having?" Just awful customer service. The restaurant wasn't even that busy-no one was waiting for a table at the entrance and multiple tables were empty. We have been pleased on our other visits to this First Watch location because the food is outstanding, but I just can't give more than one star after being ignored for ten minutes and then ignored again on our way out of the restaurant. read more

Waited over 30 minutes for an egg sandwich and when I got it yep it was cold and I could not even cut i to the bun it was hard as a rock. There were waitresses doin the cash register and then going right to the food without washing their hands. I go to this location once a week and after today that most likely will never happen again based on the service and the food. It's a little expensive for breakfast if your looking for Coney Island cheap breakfast pricing, but well worth it if your looking for quality and variety. We got carry out on a lazy Sunday. Typically I am totally against take out breakfast because it gets cold, but we had mimosas waiting for us at home. I got the chicicanga she got the eggs benny. Mine was absolutely delicious, I loved how all the flavors came together. She wasn't a huge fan of hers, she said the bread was a little tough and the ham wasn't her fav, but the food getting cold on the way home could of played a part in her not loving hers. We asked to be seated outside, we were. They have a bee problem noticed initially upon sitting, as soon as the food arrived we were attacked by bees. We told the waitress she said you can move inside. Brushed us off. We asked for the manager to move us inside while he is watching my husband warding off the bees he said you are welcome to move inside. as the rest of the costumers next to us move inside. I asked him for help none was provided. Keep in mind, I am pregnant holding a toddler. My husband ended up moving our food and bags inside. We sat inside, even the high chair was not moved inside. Then the waitress provided us with a check as we are still half way through our food. Honestly very inappropriate and upsetting service first time in my life writing a review and walking out without tipping. The food was good no complains as usual. the kale tonic was diluted unlike previous times we had it. the waitress apologized stated she can not do anything about that as she has to fill the cup with ice. Then after a few min we just asked her to change one of them at least to a diff ent one which she did not offer in the first place. I really have tried to love this place but I can't! It's so close by and the food is really good. But the staff is the worst, and they just can't get their act together. Called for carry out today and got snarky attitude over the phone for not using the app. When I told her I tried she said she'll take my order this once but next time use the app or the website. What???? Just told you it doesn't work. Seriously I wanted to slap the woman on the phone!! This has happened numerous times to the point where I've complained to the manager. She said that they're supposed to take orders over the phone but once again I got the attitude. I've even taken the time to show the manager the problem with the app a few weeks ago. Guess what, the app STILL doesn't work- get error message ever time that it can't accept credit cards so you're bumped to the next location to complete the order. Ive tried to go to the website and it says location can't accept orders on line. So I gave up and called them. I guess it's my fault for not just completely giving up and going somewhere else. I feel compelled to write this review as our experience has been the same at both the Somerset and Big Beaver locations--poor floor management of wait staff and most importantly, bussing of tables. Our most recent lunch visit to the Somerset location followed suit, in that while the waiting area was full with 5 parties waiting to be seated, there were 6 tables we could see that had not been cleared of dishes. The lone busboy was moving at a snail's pace (we actually watched him "meander" through the restaurant, as opposed to really hustling to get the tables cleared during a busy lunch hour). Surely mgmt. and the front host should understand how frustrating it is for customers to be looking at all these available tables that can't be seated due to slow response to clear them! The front hostess was quite rude and snippy when I asked about so many tables needing clearing. When we were finally seated, she informed us we may "have to wait a while for our waitress..." WOW! It would seem that the restaurant has issues with keeping enough wait and bussing staff on hand to service the busy periods. While we enjoy the food at First Watch, the consistent bad service gives us a "bad taste in our mouth" about returning, only to be frustrated with the same issues over and over again, as has been the case every time we've visited. Customers need to feel like a restaurant appreciates their patronage, which we see plenty of in other competing establishments in the area. Bad service today. It wasn't very busy and there were many servers working, but ours didn't have a clue. Poured our two cups of coffee and left a pop with another half cup at the table. Took our order and disappeared. Two other servers ran the food out to us after a time - it was lukewarm. Daughter's Belgian waffle came with the wrong, smaller cup of berry compote - it took half the meal to flag down any of the servers, let alone ours, to ask for more. Same for asking for more coffee. We were done for at least ten minutes before the original server showed up with the check. Food was tasty if not properly plated. In addition to the scant compote, the waffle was missing cinnamin sugar. My barbacoa quesadillas were tasty, but oddly piled at one end of the long plate. read more

I've always wanted to try this place as it is close to my home and I love breakfast food. It always looks REALLY busy when I pass by but I finally decided to give it a go this weekend. When I walked up I got worried because so many people were waiting outside and in the waiting area-- it was a Saturday but it is literally ALWAYS like this. I asked the waitress how long the wait was and she said 30-40 mins, yikes. I was about to leave when she pointed to a large table and said it was community-style dining and if I could find a spot I could sit right down. I found a spot there-- but I was alone, word to the wise if you're bringing a group you might be in trouble. I was waited on fairly quickly, and my food came in a reasonable amount of time. I got the Farmhouse skillet and I was happy to see it came with some really thick, delicious looking toast, a small fresh cup of fruit, and some jam. The skillet was SO good. Cheesy potatoes, bacon, avocado, onion, tomatoes and eggs. REALLY good. And it actually was a decent amount I didn't finish all the potatoes. Only docked a few stars because it was kind of loud and it was a little pricy (I got a very small cup of OJ that was almost $3; probably not out of whack for the area but still). This is my third time here and its safe to say that the food is good, but their service is poor each time. The first time my fiancé and I got our meals 15 minutes after one another, and the food was of course really cold eggs. Not good! The second time the server had a really poor attitude the whole time. The food was very good. Try to steer clear of a server named GAIL. It's probably best to ask not to be seated in her section. She was very loud and rude. She is a "close talker" and you can see the spit protruding from her mouth when she talks. We asked her if she minded wearing a mask and she proceeded to explain her rights as well as lecture us about getting her vaccinations for COVID (our table consisted of a physician, a nurse, and a lawyer, but she was unaware of this information). Pandemic or not, I don't think anyone wants spit in their faces and food. I tried a juice on the menu called morning meditation. It is listed as "all natural" ingredients. The ingredients are listed, which includes ginger, turmeric, beets, etc.. I was expecting a freshly blended drink of real fruits and vegetables. I got something that looked pre-made and topped off with syrup. It tastes like pink lemonade. I asked Gail if she could please take it back because I was confused and thought it was something else by the way it was written on the menu. She proceeded to lecture me for a second time during brunch. This time about why the drink actually is considered "all natural". She even told me very loudly that the establishment uses a juicer that costs $50K and the drink is made fresh every morning. Again, I very much enjoyed the food here. However, GAIL is absolutely the worst server I have ever encountered. I was able to get past her presentation of all of the non-restaurant-related smudges on her shirt, hair undone, and pannus hanging out of the bottom of her shirt. But her disposition was unforgiving. She is confrontational, loud, abrasive, and defensive. I have been to many restaurants, including Michelin Star restaurants around the globe. I didn't expect service to thaf magnitude. I am a little bummed about this place because one is opening near me and I love a good breakfast place. I know have a tendency to nit pick, but over all I just wasn't impressed. I was with my mom. She is not an adventurous eater. I always look for things on the menu that start with French: French toast, French Dip, French fries... this menu was hard for me to digest, I knew she was going to struggle. I will give it to them, there was a lot of thought and creativity put into the menu. I think it appeals to the avocado toast crowd but I am a little more traditional all American. We ordered salads, they were fresh and the portions were large. Our server was efficient at her job. She was patient while we tried to figure out what we wanted. This space has a lot of windows and we were sat in a booth next to the window. It was really sunny and even with the shade down it was really hot. We were given our bill to pay at the front... it doesn't really seem like that kind of place. The host stand/register was probably the worst part. The host didn't really seem to have a handle on her job. For me, the menu didn't spark enough interest to bring me back. Well we went here on the biggest breakfast day of the year...Mothers Day. Yes, it was packed like everywhere else, but we didn't have to wait that long for a table.
