I took my car in for a recall at the Ford dealership down the street. I decided to treat myself to breakfast since it was early and I knew I'd have at least a two hour wait. I've been to First Watch when they first opened where I live in the Washington DC area. I don't remember it being as expensive as it is now. My banana brittle French toast was $15 something ($19 after tax and tip). I know it was fancy, but it's not like it was dipped in gold leaf. I also feel they could've ponied up real maple syrup instead of the high fructose corn syrup version that they offered in acute decanter. I could've paid $1.99 to get the real stuff but that seems outrageous for two pieces of French toast. It was good, however not my favorite version of French toast that I've ever had. If they come up with a s'mores, Nutella or Reese's version, I'd be inclined to order that one next time. I arrived about 8:30 in the morning and there were about five other customers there. My server, Kayla was great. Provided just the right amount of attention. I'll probably come back when I'm here in December, since I'm staying with a friend literally across the street. read more

Very good First Watch location after a quick weekend gym workout! Located in the parking lot that is shared by Planet Fitness, you can walk across to this First Watch. It's a bit bigger than most locations (with some outdoor seating). The food is great and the drinks are greater! I had higher hopes for my experience at this particular location. It was a very basic breakfast experience the same as you would get at a diner. The waiting staff and the hostess are task oriented. There's no personal touches. Our host/waitress never came to check after the meal was served. There was no refill of water the art of waitressing I didn't experience seeing even with other diners. I had never even heard of First Watch until this past Saturday. Apparently it's a chain. Hubby and I dropped by after Christmas shopping, and I was wowed. Hubby had the biscuits and gravy, with fluffy biscuits and yummy, savory gravy, and I chose the multigrain toast with jam along with a tangerine dream, which is cream capped tangerine juice - even better than it sounds! First time coming to this location and it was bigger than expected. We went in at 1030am on a Monday and there was no wait. We were seated immediately and the service was helpful and attentive. The food was delicious as always, I tried the salmon frittata for the first time and it was delicious. My husband did the avocado toast and he enjoyed it! I always enjoy plenty of natural light at restaurants and this place definitely did not disappoint with that. It wasn't too loud and we were able to enjoy conversation without raising our voices. Everything came fairly quickly and it was tasty. Not overwhelmingly good but just fine. Jagged Fork serves a much more exciting cinnamon pancake. At the $14+ price point one might expect a little more. It would have been nice to have the server check in more often too. Also, when cashing out their credit card tip lines start at 20%. Thankfully, we got seated right away! My sister and I got the chorizo hash from the seasonal menu, while my other sister got a quesadilla and my mom got the lemon ricotta pancakes. Super filling! My moms pancakes weren't overly sweet which was good. The hash was flavorful, but didn't have much chorizo. Much more potatoes than meat. They also forgot to add scallions to my dish but remembered to add it to my sister's. My other sister's quesadilla looked like two tacos. She liked it but found that it didn't meet her expectations presentation-wise. Prices are reasonable here. Staff is friendly and service is quick! You don't wait long for your food which is great! Parking around here is chaos! There are other restaurants in this area, and even a Planet Fitness. The parking always looks perpetually filled. Ordered a simple breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon (requested it chewy), potatoes and toast. Eggs were cooked fine; bacon was cooked to a crisp (nothing chewy about it), potatoes underdone (I crunched through a few); toast was ok. My food was warm, but not hot--I'm guessing mine was first in our order to be finished. As a former short order cook I was super underwhelmed. If you're looking for a trendy place and don't mind sub-par food, this is your place. Honestly next time I'll just go to a local Coney Island and find the food hotter and faster and cheaper. read more

I think I just have bad luck when it comes to First Watch locations. My boyfriend and I decided to try this one out today, since I had been to the other Troy location (Big Beaver/Rochester Rd.) a few years ago and had bad service - so much so that they gave me a $20 "Brunch Bites" card to come back, but due to the pandemic I hadn't used it yet. I figured we'd try this location today instead. First off, the food is always good at First Watch. I ordered the standard brunch platter which came with your choices of meats, as well as multigrain toast with jam, eggs, and potatoes. I don't eat eggs so I gave those to my boyfriend, and I got turkey sausage with it, since we got a side order of their "Million Dollar Bacon," which is always fantastic, and today was no exception. My boyfriend ordered an omelette and enjoyed it also. The first issue was that there was some sort of (syrup?) or something on the booth side of the table. I used a napkin and wiped it off. I went to use the bathroom and came back and apparently no one had come to the table yet. After about 10-15 minutes our waitress showed up and apologized. To preface the rest of this review: we could see she was working hard, she just had a lot of tables. I think this FW location is probably understaffed due to the pandemic. She took our drink + food orders and we got the food maybe 20 minutes later, which was fine. The other issue was that I asked for a box, when we were done eating, and waited ... hadn't seen our waitress yet, so we asked a busgirl, who never came back ... about 20 minutes later, the waitress came over with the box, finally. She also asked my boyfriend if he wanted a to-go drink order of his soda, I think as kind of a peace offering. Probably would not come back to this location again because of the service, unfortunately (friendly service but extremely slow) so I may have to try Big Beaver/Rochester again if I go to First Watch anytime soon. Omgosh this food was amazing! It was so healthy, light, flavorful, the chicken so was juicy! I loved it!! I highly recommend! And my lavender lemonade: two thumbs up!! I enjoyed everything about my experience, I most definitely want to come back. Get on the wait list before you come. I walked right in and had a table within 5 minutes. Otherwise it's a 30 minute (or more) wait, which is typical for brunch spots on the weekend. I have been wanting to stop by here for so long! Every time I called the wait was around 1-2 hours on weekends. Today I was finally free on a weekday morning so I and 3 others stopped in. We were seated right away. We ordered two juices one being watermelon mint and the other being kale tonic. They were both very sugary and too sweet. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes. I'll be honest they sucked. The pancakes were soggy and bland. The "topping" tasted like lemon jello brand instant pudding. It was just goopy and not a good taste or texture. We also ordered the avocado toast. It was just okay. The toast was barely toasted. It was not well seasoned and very bland. They eggs were just okay. The eggs Benedict were noted to be "the worst I ever had" by my friend who ordered them. The ham was fine. The roll that it was made on was soggy and sweet? Again the eggs were fine but the béarnaise sauce was another story. It was so sour and tasted spoiled. It ruined the whole dish. She said that the mix of sweet, salty and super sour was very off putting. Unfortunately my side of bacon was the star of the show. This place is over hyped and over priced. I tried it as well, it wasn't too bad. The veggie burger was average, a bit dry and not a lot of flavor for me. Service is subpar. I had the Farmhouse Hash which includes two cage-free eggs, potatoes, bacon, avocado, house-roasted onions and tomatoes, cheddar and monterey jack cheese. It was good but somewhat overpriced for what you get in terms of portion and it contained mostly potatoes and what seemed like bacon bits. Even the toast you get is only one slice. This place is pretty unexciting. I've been here a bunch of times now and every time I leave thinking "I really don't ever want to come back". But now I'm thinking I really won't be back. The menu is pretty extensive and uses lots of local ingredients apparently. Each dish is well thought out but really is not executed that well. Belgian waffle is okay. Pretty much just covered in sugar though between the syrup, powdered sugar and berry compote. Eggs Benedict usually comes with cold hollandaise sauce and an untoasted, soggy slice of ciabatta bread. The flavor is okay but the meal is ruined by the temperature. AM superfood bowl is good but loaded with sugar. The granola tasted like sugar coated oats and the blackberry sauce was just sugary tasting, not like blackberries. If I were to get this again, I would opt for just chia pudding and fresh fruit. It comes with almond butter toast which had WAY too much salt on it. Lemon ricotta pancakes might be their best menu item. But also very sugary. As for the service, it's pretty rough. Last time I went, immediately upon sitting down our waitress asked what we wanted to eat. She never gave us water or checked on us after she dropped off our food. My moms dish came with a hair on top but she just ate around it because she was hungry and could not wait for the server to maybe come back around. I saw our same waitress drop food off at the wrong table and then leave. A few minutes later after they kinda picked at it, she came back and they said it wasn't theirs. So the waitress grabbed the food and then dropped it off at the table next to mine....I was pretty horrified that she basically double served food... Honestly, this place is not worth the hype. It's marketed as fresh, fun breakfast food but it's really just meh. Meh food coupled with bad service is just not somewhere I want to go back to. Made it home, opened my box to a very sad sight. Minimal filling and missing the avocado and pico. Very disappointing after a $16 breakfast with included tip. Definitely much better experience than I had last time in the Big Beaver location. I was debating if give 3 or 4* but since there are more things I would like to be done better, I went with 3. Pros: - food is tasty and seems to be on n the higher quality side - entire pot of coffee on your table, so you don't have to wait for refills - liked that there is a dairy free option for creamer Cons: - wait time, even if you check in on yelp with the waiting time indicated, the correct time you have to wait is longer - small and noisy, knowing that they are so popular, why don't make this place bigger? - they don't seem to manage rush hours, confusion on the checkout side, different servers during your time and not full attention to you as customer - lack of vegan options, the only 2 that they have which are semi vegan (muffin for the oatmeal bowl and regular milk), are on the sweet side. There is nothing savory if you want your breakfast this way. I wish they add more on that side too, it's so easy to create like a hash bowl that is fully vegan. Because of that, I had to go with their toast only which is delicious, but still, I would come more often if I had better vegan breakfast options, like bowls or wraps. I love this breakfast/brunch place in the greater Troy area. Went for the first time and already in the mood to go back. I'd describe the restaurant as a "rustic" iHop with healthier food options. Order: Avocado Toast with potatoes - AMAZING!! Great toast and generous portion of Avocado. Potatoes were great too! Smoked Salmon and Roasted Veggie Frittata - wow! The menu is mostly breakfast/brunch items, with some lunch type choices. Some of the selection tends towards modern healthy. The menu does try to be trendy. The prices are not bad for the area and type of menu. Some portions were small. There were two issues. It is very loud inside. More seriously, service was poor. The staff was polite, but slow and inattentive. They were only about half full during our visit, so there was not a good cause for the issue. read more

Though I had no wait for my table. The menu is basically the same as every First Watch with a different list of specials. I went with just water instead of trying any of the amazing juices because I had already had juice for the day. Because of the time of day, I decided on the steel cut oats. They come out with a bunch of various toppings to add. The toppings include: bananas, berries (strawberries in this case), brown sugar, walnuts and milk. I put everything on the oats but the milk as I really hate milk on my oats/oatmeal. It is so nice that you get to customize your own oatmeal/oats rather then being stuck with an already dressed oatmeal/oats. First Watch is so nice in the fact that they have gluten free bread. Not a pleasant first time experience. I called to place a carry out order on Monday around 11:40am for a salad and the Tri Athlete omelette. I ordered salad dressing on the side for the salad and subbed breakfast potatoes for fruit and gluten free toast for the Omelette entree. I checked the bag in the car before leaving and it was incorrect. The salad was mixed with the dressing. It was dressed with a honey mustard dressing and I asked for no dressing. Chipotle dressing on the side. I went back inside and told the employee about the mistake. She said, ok have a seat and it should only take about 5 minutes. After 10 minutes she came back and asked if I wanted a water while waiting. I said yes that would be nice. 5 minutes later she returned with the water. Salad still wasn't ready. Finally after 20 minutes my undressed salad was ready to go and I received an apology. By this time my omelet was cold and toast was soggy. When I got home to eat, the order was still incorrect! They gave me honey mustard salad dressing on the side instead of the Chipotle. As for the omelette, it was supposed to come with Pico De Gallo which was missing. The potatoes were not cooked all the way through and were raw inside. Yuck. I had to throw away the potatoes and the toast that was soggy. What a waste of money. Not impressed with this place due to all the mistakes and long waiting time. Definitely will not be returning here again at least for carry out. read more
