This is the place that is worth driving 20 miles out of the way to-- even though we didn't have to. Great variety, flavors. I had the smoked salmon on toast--a first for me. Usually the food and service are excellent, I guess we were there on an off day. No refills on drinks offered until I finally asked at the end of the meal. No straws offered. One member of our group asked for water to drink and was only ever given a small cup with no ice. Omelet had all the cheese lumped in one side. This place is totally a hit or miss...I had crab eggs Benedict and was so disappointed. On the other hand my husband had the avocado toast and millionaires bacon which was amazing. Maybe I just didn't order the right thing but the horseradish sauce tasted like it was out of a can and so did the crab meat. We unfortunately had the perfect storm of errors while visiting this restaurant. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful while we made our selection. We had plenty of time before catching a ride to the airport, but 45 minutes later it was discovered that the ticket had never made it to the kitchen. Fast friendly service. I was on a bit of a time crunch, and the order and receiving the food was very quick. Ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs and potatoes. They gave me 4 biscuits, way too much, gravy was very good, but your can tell a big difference between turkey and real pork sausage - wish you had an option. Eggs were cooked perfectly - light scramble and potatoes were very good with some crunchy bits mixed in. This is apparently a local chain with several locations. The food is locally grown. The menu is extensive with breakfast and lunch items. There is also a seasonal menu with special items. I ordered the smoked salmon cucumber toast from the summer menu at the recommendation of the waitress. The toast was perfectly toasted and came with two cage free basted eggs. While smoked salmon with capers and cream cheese is quite common of a combination, I enjoyed the cucumbers that added a freshness to the toast. My friend ordered the oatmeal which came with a cranberry sugar muffin. She enjoyed the sugary texture mixed with the cranberry taste. Her fiance ordered the blueberry pancakes short stack with a side of beacons. The pancakes were fluffy with lots of blueberries. The maple syrup was warmed in a glass jar which was nice but a bit hard to handle. When you are leaving, you can choose to take your coffee to go and they put it in a to go cup for you. KACHOW! What's up, my friends! It is I, Lightning McQueen, back with another review. This time, I'll be telling you about First Watch in Florence. Let me tell you: the service at this restaurant is subpar at BEST. The server always takes at least 10-15 minutes to take your drink order after you sit down, the servers are absent for long periods of time, and the simplest requests often take a ridiculously long time to fulfill. My experience this time, unfortunately, met these low expectations. When she filled our coffee cups, she only filled them halfway. We discovered she did this because the pot of coffee was nearly empty! The fact that she did this means she knew that the coffee pot was almost empty, and instead of bringing us a fresh pot, left us with the empty one. One of my companions and I both asked for water. No problem, right? WRONG! She did not bring us our water. We waited 20 minutes for our water, and when we asked her AGAIN she acted like it was the first time we asked. I don't think it was necessarily her fault, though. First Watch seems to get increasingly inefficient as they get busier. It was busy when we dined. I will say, the food is always good and made just how I like it. No one in my party had any complaints. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to the speed we go when racing for the Piston Cup, but I wish the service was better! The food was tasty, but not tasty enough to make up for the service. After driving all night I stopped for some breakfast at First Watch. I usually look for local places, but this was one of the few places open. The expansive menu was a little overwhelming but I listened to the waitresses suggestion of the seasonal special of Chicken Chimchurri Hash. Oh my goodness the flavors bursted in mouth and made me smile. The coffee, fresh bread with marmalade, seasonal fruit, and hash hit the spot. There's a reason this breakfast/lunch chain is always busy - the food is fresh and the service is friendly. My husband and I rolled in around 1:45 and waited approx 10 minutes. Our 2 top table was very small and in a corner next to the kitchen - not ideal but wasn't too bad. My husband ordered the protein punched Power Bowl with quinoa, kale, carrots, chicken and a few other fresh ingredients. Although he liked it, he felt it was slightly bland and dashed on some hot sauce. I had the 2 for You and got the Pecan Dijon salad with a cup of Tomato Basil soup. Salad was a combo of greens, chicken, pecans, avocado, bacon with a warm honey Dijon dressing. Very tasty combination, but too much dressing (and I'm a girl who loves her some dressing!) I would def order again, but light on the dressing or ordered on the side. We will definitely go back - the new Florence location is close to home and the decor is cozy - love the unique light fixtures and hard wood floors. They offer a "community" table if you don't mind sitting with others and want to avoid the slight wait. What a great find! Healthy food and great atmosphere. Since I was by myself, I sat at the community table--kind of European style--and had really nice conversations with complete strangers. I ordered the first thing I saw on the menu, which was actually a special--the avocado toast with eggs. Very good--not too much, but filling nonetheless. Although I only drank water, the woman sitting across from me had the cucumber mint refresher to drink, also from the special menu. I must definitely try this next time. I have only one complaint: they did not have Tabasco on the table or off. Instead they had one of those other brands. Honestly, I can't imagine a world with eggs and no Tabasco! I'm giving First Watch five stars anyway because I was so impressed with the quality of food I had plus what I saw on the menu that I want to try on my next visit.
