Normally I would not take the time to write a review on my experience at First Watch. I regularly visit the Hull Street or Midlothian locations. But on the occasion I decided to give the Iron Bridge location a second chance. Surely my last experience was just a fluke. On my first visit to this location which was probably a year ago I experienced an extremely under cooked waffle as part of my Trifecta meal. My friend and I ordered the same thing. Both waffles were under cooked and we sent them back. Only to receive the same undercooked waffles again. Just figured it was the result of inexperienced cook. So paid for the meal and left. Well this past week I decided to give this location another try. Ordered my favorite the Trifecta. Food comes out and the waffle is overcooked. It's actually crunchy. Obviously overcooked and I flip it over and it's burnt on the other side. I cannot believe it. How hard is it to cook a waffle. So I send it back. What I received as my replacement was horrendous. A severely undercooked waffle. It was more than obvious that this was done intentionally. The waitress apologized and chatted with the manager. I offered to pay for the eggs and sausage portion of my meal but I had no intention of paying for the waffle. Waitress said that the manager said the meal was free and that they should have gotten this right the first time. I have eaten at the other locations many times and never had one single problem with any of my meals. Not one!! Please do not waste your time at this particular location because there is obviously a problem in the kitchen. You can never go wrong with any of the First Watches as a breakfast or brunch spot. Depending on the day, the wait may be a little lengthy but they do get people in and out. I have come to realize the kick of the food depends on the day. One of my favorite breakfast items is the turkey sausage and gravy, and each time I go there is a different level of kick, ranging from I can't finish it to this is pretty good. The potatoes have a bit of a kick to it. When I say kick I mean more of pepper, not spicy. This will be our go to spot when we want to grab food. I was meeting 2 friends for brunch and I, having arrived first, put our name down on the wait list. We were told it would be 30-35 minutes, which we expected on a Saturday. It was freezing outside, but due to the very small and cramped waiting area, we opted to brave the elements. Our decision, no problem. After waiting 30 minutes, we decided to squeeze inside to wait. Noticing people who arrived after us were being seated, I made hard eye contact a couple of times with the young lady who took our names. Deciding to inquire how much longer the wait would be, I approached the hostess station and was ignored until another young lady walked up to ask if I needed help. My name was nowhere on the list. The girl who took my name stood there refusing to make eye contact or acknowledge the issue in any way. The second young lady said she would put my name back on the list. I stated that I had been waiting for 30 minutes and didn't want to be put back on the waitlist. Looking at the first girl, I said "excuse me, do you not remember talking to me?". Her response was to shrug, still not looking in our direction. Getting frustrated I said "Did you or did you not put my name on the list?". Still not making eye contact, she mumbled "yes, I remember talking to you". No "I'm sorry, I don't know what could have happened, let's try to get you seated", nothing. We were seated fairly quickly after that by the second young lady, and she seemed a bit annoyed. Maybe at me? Maybe at the other girl. I was in no way rude, and I understand things happen, but that was horrible customer service. My friends and I all had a problem with our meals. One friend didn't receive her eggs - not extra eggs, not a substitution, the eggs that come standard with what she ordered. By the time they arrived, she'd eaten the rest of her meal. My second friend, who cannot eat dairy, asked for no butter on her toast. She got toast slathered in butter. I ordered eggs Benedict. They were underdone. I love a nice runny yolk. Breakfast was great! They are new and obviously designed for social distancing. It is the first time that I have felt like I had enough space inside a restaurant since the pandemic hit. Made our first visit to the first watch in Chesterfield and I was very impressed. Very interesting menu with a wide variety of healthy and traditional choices. We tried the cinnamon bun appetizer and it was fantastic. Breakfasts for the 4 of us ranged from healthy to indulgent and all were prepared perfectly. Arrived at 11:30, 2 hours prior to closing and we still had a 20 minute wait. After 10 minutes our server arrived. Ordered a side of potato's and a fruit cup. my wife ordered the same and realized we can share the potato's. I asked for coffee and a cup of water (still waiting for the water!). My wife ordered champagne. It arrived in a stemless wine glass. Disappointing. I prepared my coffee and noticed there was no silverware on the table. After 5 minutes I got up and walked to the kitchen area. i was asked if i could be helped. I requested a spoon to stir my coffee and was told over and over again that they don't have silverware just plastic. I was in shock and said, you don't have silverware? I'm sitting at a table and didn't order take out. Again, i was told,"Ma'am, we have plastic ware." The hostess then asked if she could help and I explained to her that i'm expected to stir my coffee with a plastic spoon. The service was terrible. Starting from when we originally checked in and I got the original text from the check-in hostess. We never received a text to let us know that the table was ready they had originally told us just a few minutes I came back a half hour later and said how much longer they said "oh we you texted you" .. It made me feel like I can trust this is an establishment that really cares about customer satisfaction and not just making a quick buck. Firstly, I ordered to-go during an extremely busy time. Honestly there was a line out the door, but my food was done on time just as promised. I ordered all of the popular items as it shows on here...the Belgian waffle, Million Dollar Bacon, Avocado Toast, and to top it off...a cup of coffee. The Belgian waffle was delicious in a funnel cake type of way. I will say however, it was not what I was looking for in a Belgian waffle. I wanted a super crisp exterior with a very light and almost fluffy interior. Not sure if it was the steam in the to go container but it wasn't what I was looking for. It was good, however I wouldn't order again. The Million Dollar Bacon, was delicious. Almost candied but not quite....very good. I would love to have a small bit of fresh cracked sea salt on top. I did not taste the pepper or cayenne, but again, delicious. The Avocado toast...I loved it, but honestly I love avocado. I will say they did not honor my request to have the eggs cooked more through, but that was a minor slight in my eyes. The bread it was paired with...I'd order a whole loaf, it was delicious. There was quite a bit of avocado on top, which is no complaint at all, I love it. They could honestly get away with putting a bit less and get zero complaints. The only thing that would really top it off would be freshly cracked sea salt and freshly cracked pepper and even better a topping of micro greens...it would a great flavor, nutrition, and texture enhancer. But don't take my suggestions as criticism, because it was delicious. The coffee was the last part of my order, and can say it quickly became a no brainer favorite for me. Veryyyy good flavor! And I LOVE that it supports female farmers from Columbia! Even if it didn't though, it was really great. Overall, I gave four out of five stars because of minor slights.
