There was a bit of a wait before my order was taken, but honestly, it worked out in my favor because it gave me plenty of time to look over the menu. There were so many tempting options that it was honestly hard to decide! I ultimately chose three items and enjoyed a few bites of each. Ham & Fontina Scone: This was my first time trying a scone, and I was pleasantly surprised. The texture reminded me of a dry biscuit, but the ham added a delicious savory flavor that I really enjoyed. Frittata Plate: The frittata was SO good! It wasn't too dry, and all of the flavors worked really well together. It was served with polenta, which reminded me of really fine grits, along with fruit. After trying it, I realized that one entrée would definitely be enough for me to enjoy on its own. Breakfast 'ZA: This was essentially a breakfast pizza topped with a fried egg, and the egg was such a nice touch. The 'ZA itself was really good, although I think adding something similar to a gravy or sauce would make it a little less dry. Even without it, though, the fried egg really took it to another level. Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso: I decided to try the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso, which was the barista's pick. This was my first time having a shaken espresso, and I'm so glad I gave it a try! It was refreshing and perfect for a hot day. The inside of Trattoria ZaZa is nice, although it is somewhat small, so I opted to sit outside. It was a very warm day, but the awning provided plenty of shade and made the outdoor seating comfortable. I also appreciated that, even though the restaurant doesn't have traditional table service, someone periodically checked on me to make sure I didn't need anything else. Overall, I had a great brunch experience at Trattoria ZaZa. There were plenty of menu options, the food was flavorful, and I really enjoyed trying a few things that were new to me. I'd definitely be open to coming back and trying more of the menu!

I also really enjoyed the open-kitchen concept, as I always like being able to see the food being prepared. My only concern was with a couple of things I noticed in the kitchen. Since the kitchen is completely open and visible to guests, I think extra attention should be given to sanitation and overall presentation. I noticed one of the cooks drinking while preparing food, and another wiped his nose with his arm while working. Although he didn't use his hand, it still left me feeling a little uneasy. When guests can see directly into the kitchen, those small details really matter. Aside from that, we enjoyed our experience, and I do think this is a place worth trying at least once. The atmosphere, service, and recommendations from our server were definitely highlights of our visit.

I haven't had their chicken tenders before, but now realize I prefer it over the standard fried chicken solely because the flavor profile is better (more seasoned). I would order this again. Salad for my steak tips was as expected. I also redeemed a birthday reward for the chocolate cake. The bite I took was pretty good and it is easily a sharable portion size. Now for the not so good... My order through metro diners website consisted of steak tips, mash&gravy, garden salad with ranch. I personally would not order this again. Issue: The steak was chewy, flavor was bland and portion size seemed small for the value. My DoorDash order consisted of 1. Bissell breakfast with pancakes, scrambled eggs, cheese grits, bacon and a biscuit. 2. Small sausage gravy side 3. Chicken tenders plate with creole mustard, green beans and French fries. Issue: I quickly glanced through the see through lid of the boxes and noticed toast instead of a biscuit and no container that would have had the cheese grits. Went inside to notify the team and expo of missing items (also brought the bag back in). The expo called for these missing items from the kitchen. The cook glanced and then asked if he had a ticket for that? I managed restaurants for years so I get it when the kitchen asks this, however, the ticket was the one you made incorrectly and the expo did not check for correctness. The expo also stated "it is for a DoorDash order that she said is wrong". I'm happy this was a personal order because I got to see firsthand how it appears DD order issues are dismissed since they seemed to assume I was a driver. At least that is how the short exchange presented. They weren't rude it was the tone and lack of apology for my missing items. Mistakes happen. How you respond to and handle them matters. Fast forward - I get home and realize they must have simply switched my order with someone else's. There were hash browns with cheese and diced tomatoes and scrambled eggs with cheese. Was not my order and could not eat this order. The pancakes were just okay. Tried the sausage gravy with the biscuit. Not something I would get again but this part isn't a reflection of Metro Diner. Ordered this just to try it since many rave about this southern combo. Let's just say there will be more for everyone else to enjoy.

For anyone who may not have heard, this place reminds me of similar smaller scale chains like Chicken Salad Chick or even a little bit like Urban Cookhouse. If I had to compare it to a larger chain, I'd say it's kind of like Panera. The biggest difference I'd say is the presence of a very large cooler with grab and go/take and bake type of meals. Definitely seems like a nice service. This location was larger than I expected it to be. Outdoor parking was a little crazy around noon on a Thursday, but I managed to find a spot inside a nearby underground parking garage and the walk over wasn't bad. They were moderately busy but there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Two cashiers were waiting for me to order at the counter. There's also a shelf where carryout orders are left for pickup. Oh, and I stopped in the bathroom before I left and found it tidy. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I quickly scanned the menu and decided on the lemon rosemary chicken. It comes with rice, a sour cream biscuit, and your choice of a side. My stomach was feeling a little on the fritz so I chose a fruit cup to keep it extra light. Service was polite and efficient, which is all you can really ask for. I thought the price was a touch high, especially when I saw what I wound up getting: almost $16, and that's before tip (and yes, they use the tablets that automatically prompt you to tip -- I don't mind tipping for the sake of the worker but I wish we as a society would just pay workers living wages rather than relying on tips, especially when there's not really much "table service" even going on!). The food was okay. I was bummed to see they serve Red Diamond tea; it's not a favorite of mine at all, although I suppose it's local so it makes sense. The chicken was probably the best part, in the sense that it was actually cooked perfectly. Still tender and juicy! I didn't get much rosemary, though; the lemon and feta overwhelmed it and some bites were quite salty and/or acidic. The rice was also cooked well, not too mushy nor undercooked. The fruit cup was...fine. About one strawberry cut in halves, two apple pieces, a very small handful of grapes, and the rest of it oranges, which are not my favorite. Probably on me for ordering it, as I don't tend to think fruit cups are worth it when dining out, but I was trying to cater to my tummy. If I return, I'd get something different. The sour cream biscuit made me sad, lol. When I hear biscuit I think of a bread item at least the size of my palm. This was smaller than even a miniature muffin like you'd get in a snack pack for kids. It was about the size of the half of a strawberry in my fruit cup. It was tasty! But very small. :( Maybe "drop biscuit" would've given me slightly more realistic expectations, haha. Overall, this restaurant chain may fit the bill if you're looking for something fairly healthy, quick, fresh, and unobjectionable, or if you're looking to find an easy dinner to take home! If I return I hope to come back feeling more robust and ready to try something new like the poppyseed chicken. :)

My request for extra cream was taken seriously and I so appreciate it. My coffee cup was refilled often and so was the container of cream when it got low! Since there was a line of cars in the drive thru and many customers ahead of me, I wasn't expecting my order so quickly. However, 17 minutes after I placed my order I had a freshly cooked breakfast in front of me. Grits, bacon, over easy eggs, buttered toast and jelly packets. I poured the grits into the platter, eased the eggs onto the steaming hot grits, sprinkled black pepper over the yolks, spreading the jelly over the requested uncut toast and blessed the meal. The yolks oozing over the platter just right told me the eggs weren't overcooked. The bacon was crispy and cooked straight like I preferred. The only complaint I had was I forgot to put my Badia brand Chile & Lime seasoning in the car. It's perfect for times like this when the Grits lack salt and needs seasoning without adding sodium. I understand they can't season the pot like I do at home but dang those grits were bland! Even salted butter would have helped! Those little containers of pretend butter products isn't enough. I hate those things. Give me real butter or nothing at all! So even though I ate my breakfast like I hadn't eaten in a week, I still have two compliments. Bland, unsalted grits and the lack of real butter products upon request. Everything else was on point. My toast was actually "toasted" brown and uncut like I asked. My over easy eggs weren't overcooked cooked but the white part was cooked without any brown. The yolks were running like I like. The bacon was cooked on the grill as my eggs. (I see a guy online serving precooked cold bacon that I would send back). It was crispy and straight! The grits although lacking salt, was steaming hot and not lumpy so almost perfect. My coffee cup was refilled as soon as it was emptied as I waited for my breakfast. I didn't have to continue to wait for more cream, because my server heard me when I asked for extra cream before hand. It's small things like that I appreciate. All in all I enjoyed being able to sit and enjoy a meal without my dog in the car running with the AC on. Or me getting a to go order so I'm not concerned about a hot car. I just remembered I hadn't reviewed my previous experience. I'm in the mood for salmon, rice and biscuit so I'm leaving the dog at home and going to have another meal in their dining room!
