Normally I'm not the biggest fan of fruits in dessert but the blueberry cheesecake is one of the best things I've ever had. The pie here is wonderful! We went on Pi day, knowing it was gonna be very full. I had pre-ordered and prepaid a traditional apple pie. It was one of the best apple pies I've ever eaten! I love it! The only reason this isn't five stars is that, when I went, they wanted me to wait in the 20 minute line to pick up my pre-ordered and prepaid pie. This is just a simple management issue. If you're looking for a sweet treat, while you're exploring Andersonville this is definitely a great place to go. I got the traditional apple pie and my partner got the chocolate peanut butter pie. A nice friendly cafe in Andersonville! Had a multiple friends recommending First Slice so I had to give it a try. With Thanksgiving coming up, I had to find a good cream pie. They serve pies by the slice, which is awesome. I ordered a French silk pie to go as well a toffee coffee pie as well. I would recommend having the pie soften up a bit before eating. The French silk pie was very solid. Not too sweet. The crust tastes good too. I enjoyed the toffee coffee pie more since I am a fan of coffee flavors. The service here was good. Got my order promptly. They also have whole frozen pies to go. It has a nice seating area in the back as well. Glad to check this place out. I am certainly pie-ning for First Slice Pie Cafe! This specific location in Andersonville is super cute located on a quiet portion of Ashland Ave. My husband and I came here for a quick lunch date during the weekday and it was just perfect. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and we split the french silk. Both were absolutely amazing. Can't believe how overdue my review of First Slice is, but with today being International Women's Day and Pie Day just around the corner, I thought it was about time I share my love of First Slice with you all! First Slice really is amazing from the inside out. The chef, and owner, Mary Ellen Diaz, founded the business with the desire to give back by feeding those in need. The work that she and her team has done for the Chicago community is truly inspiring. There is a program in place where with a $25 donation, you get a beautiful handmade ceramic bowl to fill with soup of you choosing (and as many refills as you want!). You get to take the bowl home with you as a reminder of all the bowls you're helping First Slice fill. All proceeds support the First Slice Outreach Program which feeds hundreds of our hungry neighbors weekly. Onto the pie, it is DELICIOUS. My go-to's are the French silk or the chocolate peanut butter. A slice is the perfect amount because they are so decadent. After checking out the reviews on here, I definitely need to try the blueberry cheesecake on my next visit! The smoked turkey sandwich (with incredible cranberry cherry chutney) + a slice of pie makes for a heavenly lunch on a Saturday afternoon. In love with this place! I came to meet a friend here and it's just a fun, hole-in-the-wall type cafe. Only a few people were in here reading or studying. Staff is nice too! I got a cortado with oat milk and a drip coffee for my friend. She ordered herself a panini that had rabbit? Interesting stuff! They sell a variety of pies here as well. I got a raspberry pear pie. It was unique but not my favorite. I'm down to try other pies. The prices here are fantastic! As you get further out from the city center, prices aren't bad and places aren't as busy. Yay! I had to refrain myself from ordering too many pie slices. There were so many options! I think there were about fifteen different pies available at the time. Sandwiches and salads are also available here to satisfy your sweet and savory cravings in one place. First Slice Pie offers a variety of beverages to pair with your desserts, but I had to pass them up to save room for pie. So my friend and I settled on Blueberry Cheesecake, Coffee Toffee, and Key Lime. The Blueberry Cheesecake was very good. Three layers of goodness makes up this pie: whipped blueberries, cheesecake, and a concentrated blueberry mixture spread over the graham cracker crust. This was recommended by the cashier. I know I passed up drinks, but I was not missing coffee at all. The Coffee Toffee pie packed a punch of espresso. It was rich and sweet with pieces of toffee hidden within the filling. Oh my goodness... That Key Lime Pie was delicious. It was sweet and sour enough to make my lips pucker slightly. The graham cracker crust was well packed and moist. You're supposed to pull your fork down through the pie to get everything in one bite, but I ate the crust first and saved the filling. Oh boy, the filling was creamy. I wish stayed in Chicago longer just because of this slice of heaven. So the building itself is pretty big. When walk in, the pies and are displayed right by the cashier. There are a few tables to sit at there; four more rooms have places to sit. Each room has a big table with chairs that don't match anything. It gives personality to this quirky little cafe. In one of the rooms, there are beach chairs to lounge in. I didn't see that anywhere else in Chicago. My favorite room had a small book shelf. You can take the book home with you, but you need to bring it back. That's awesome. Many people have brought books to leave there while they borrowed something from the shelf. First Slice Pie Cafe is a friendly place in a great area to hang out in. I'd love to visit again! read more

We were looking for a place to pick up some dessert and First Slice Pie Café was close so we figured we would give em a try. Their reviews were very positive. Based on what I read in their reviews, we decided to pick up a piece of their peanut butter pie and their blueberry cheesecake. All I can say is WOW this place is great! I admit, we like the pie from Bakers Square. The pie and that cheesecake from First Slice Pie Café are just so much better. Better than anything I have ever made. The peanut butter pie was rich and creamy. Similar to eating a large peanut butter cup but with oreos too. The blueberry cheesecake, oh my the blueberry cheesecake. Light and fluffy, bright sweet blueberries with the perfect crust. First Slice was so good, we returned a day later to get some more pie. Hey we were on vacation and as they say, YOLO. As much as we wanted to have the blueberry cheesecake again, we settled on trying additional slices. This visit we ordered their Polka Dot pie, Key Lime and their Chocolate Mint which comes in a mini pie instead of an individual slice. These were all also delicious. The Polka Dot had almond flavor with kahlua and espresso. The Chocolate Mint also had kahlua and espresso with mint. The Key Lime was as good as we've had outside of Miami. And we still didn't try the Michigan Sour Cherry or some other flavors. I suppose we have some for next time which we will certainly be sure we come back here. Really great pies! Oh boy! First Slice is where you go when you hang up your bathing suit and embrace all the wonderfully delicious carbs. Prior to visiting First Slice I always marveled at the beautiful artwork on the side of the beautiful. I found myself snapping a few pictures of the artwork but never taking a moment to visit. Luckily one day I was carving pie. I found myself searching high and low for a place that sells pie before remembering about first slice. I can't explain the excitement that came over me when thinking about all the pie that I was going to eat. First Slice is much larger than it looks like from the outside. It has a backroom and ample sitting to accommodate both small and large groups. They seem to have a few staple pies and some pies that rotate seasonally. I'm a lover of everything chocolate so I opted for the chocolate mousse pie and my boyfriend opted for the polka dot pie. The pie was everything that I imaged it would taste like, you know pie. It's great to find a casual dining spot that offers reasonable prices on a variety of foods that can satisfy our little group -- a vegetarian, a carnivore, and a vegan (me). And, we didn't even have pie. I had the Chicago style vegetarian (made vegan) and substituted the standard chips or green salad for a side of beet salad for a $2.00 upcharge. This was very good and very filling. The vegetarian chose a mix of the harvest salad and the lentil salad. She didn't want a whole lot to eat, because she was planning a large dinner. She loved it. The carnivore had the Cobb salad. She nearly licked the bowl. I had a cup of coffee. The creamers, sugars, etc. are on a table in the back room. It was good coffee, but what spoiled the taste for me was a $.75 charge for a refill. You pay enough for coffee to begin with; I heartily dislike this trend of charging for a refill. You order everything at the counter, and a server brings it to your table. You are responsible for bussing your own table. First Slice has expanded since I was here the last time. There used to be a small retail shop called Green Sky, on the east side of First Slice, that has since closed, and the restaurant has taken over that space. It's nice that there are more tables, so that you can be pretty sure you will get to sit and enjoy your meal. We were there for a weekday lunch, and the place was not crowded at all. In fact, we were able to sit for two hours without being bothered, or feeling any pressure to leave, since the other tables were never occupied. We did not get dessert. I think everybody was full from lunch. I did inquire if there were any vegan options, because, hey, I like sweets. But there were no vegan offerings at all. Considering that they do veganize entrees, and that they offer vegan salads and soups, it would be really nice if there were at least one sweet selection available. (hint hint) The staff behind the counter was polite and efficient. One suggestion I have for First Slice, kind of related to the dining experience, is to maintain an updated website. When someone suggests a restaurant, I like to look at the website to see if I'm going to find something to eat. This website has not been updated since 2017. Looking at it now as I write this review, it advertises an event scheduled for Friday, April 7, 2017. Pretty hard to see your dining options when this basic part of 21st century business is neglected. We went to First Slice anyway, so maybe website doesn't matter after all. Just a suggestion, First Slice! All three of us enjoyed our experience at First Slice Pie Café. It will definitely be on our rotation of lunch options in the future. read more

We came here after a hearty dinner for dessert and saw this Mom and Pop shop right at the corner on our way to our car. I'm glad we stopped by because they've got some pretty delicious pies on deck for you to choose from. You can order either a slice or a whole pie if they have them ready. Between my friends and I, we tried the Chocolate Cream and the Key Lime Pies. Their chocolate cream was heavenly silky smooth just like we had seen inside the case. I came here today with friends to purchase some snacks and refreshments and witnessed a very busy, yet very patient, elegant young woman working ALONE behind the counter here. Not once did she lose her cool or become rude with any of her customers or their questions. She even very kindly asked my friend, whose mask had fallen below his nose, to please properly wear his mask (he complied immediately, of course). Tone is everything and that young lady was polite and respectful; a true professional. This is how you run a pie shop. Not rolling your eyes and acting annoyed, as I wrote in my review of a lesser known Chicago pie shop. If those people came to First Slice and observed the level of professionalism displayed behind the counter here, I could see them losing their minds trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I came on Saturday for their rebranding launch, where the first 50 in line get free pie for a year. Awesome!! We got there an hour before the start time, and was ~40 in line. Perfect. The pie here is phenomenal. They were giving out samples of their cherry pie, and I ended up getting chocolate silk, and my boyfriend got apple. All were incredible! I liked how they wrapped their plastic forks in napkins, cause it can get messy. One con is that their display case is on the left of the cashier, and the entrance is on the right. It doesn't create a seamless ordering process, since people kept on having to step out of line (they didn't have a pie menu). read more

The pies are good. Definitely on the pricey side since it's in the city. Nice to have a homemade pie place in the area though. I tried 3 of them as a test run for thanksgiving.
