Italian Beef dipped with hot peppers

I wasn't sure what to expect from the sandwiches at Hollywood Deli but I was impressed. I have always seen the sign for Hollywood and I can finally check it off my bucket list. The deli is located inside of a convenience store. It's located on the back wall past the cash register. I was surprised by the variety of offerings that Hollywood Deli had. They list roughly 6 - 8 sandwiches that you can pick from the menu. I wouldn't be surprised if you can make a custom sandwich from the deli meat options in front of you. The cool thing about Hollywood Deli is that they slice the meat in front of you. The gentleman that made my sandwich was generous with his portions so I was able to get two sandwiches from a six inch. Having the meat sliced fresh made the sandwich taste better. I do like that you can pick up other essential items while grabbing your food. The inside is larger than I expected, especially being connected to an apartment building. I can see myself becoming a regular at Hollywood Deli just for the sandwiches alone. The prices are reasonable for the deli items as well as the essential items.

My goodness, what a F BOMB hole in the wall spot in edgewater. I enjoy riding my bike and exploring new places to happened to stumble upon this. Small bodega but we'll equipped to make the meanest subs ever. I got the corned beef with a bunch of fixins. Workers were super helpful and the sandwich was HUGE. The entire place emanated a NYC bodega/chopped cheese/the ocky style vibe. The deli is super close to the beach so I ended up biking down there and enjoying it on a bench. Bread from turano + meats from dietz & watson. Everything was sliced fresh (both meats and cheese). Ps: This is what subway strived to be with that BS "eat fresh" slogan and Hollywood deli has more than succeeded

When you enter, this corner store may just seem like your typical neighborhood stop for snacks or any items you may have forgotten from your trip to the grocery store. What you see when you go to the back is a full on deli, carrying a wide variety of deli meats, cheeses and toppings. I came with a friend wanting to get a quick italian beef. We came on a Wednesday night and quickly were able to order our 6" italian beef sandwiches. The man behind the counter was friendly and made our sandwiches swiftly. I was impressed to see they cut all their meats and cheeses on demand, ensuring freshness. First thing I noticed was how loaded the sandwich was. The price is generous for how much beef and peppers they give you. They also soak half the loaf to ensure the meat juices flavor covers the bread. The meat was tender, and the giardiniera is what you'd expect to get. The bread was soft but kept the mountain of meat inside nicely. It was delicious. I am eager to come back and try some other types of sandwiches they offer.

No frill behind this beef. Really good for $8. It's also convenience store so you can grab some chips & a drink if that makes it better for you. Juices tasted solid and the meat was the best consistency. Dude was super chill.

Easily one of the best spots in the neighborhood, quality sandwiches, and the owners are always very friendly.

No nonsense, best deli sandwich on the north side of Chicago at the cheapest price. Hands down.

Stopped in to get a case of LaCroix and figured I'd get a sandwich. I wrongly assumed they'd be pre-made in a refrigerator case. Not only are they making them fresh to order, they're cutting the meat and cheese fresh too! And when they say 12", they mean it! Got a turkey yesterday and went back today for a roast beef. So much better than Subway and very reasonably priced. Definitely found my new go-to sandwich shop!

The Italian Beefs are half the original size for the same price. They've cut the bread in half. I won't be going back.

Sometimes when I'm trying to find "international" ingredients at Mariano's or something it's hit or miss. I found what I needed here and it was a fairly quick trip--I don't think I was in store more than 20 minutes. The store is small, and very very crowded. Aisles are about as wide as a single person facing forward. This isn't a place where you're going to get a shopping cart down an aisle. The prices are good. I got a head of Napa cabbage for 99 cents per pound, and when I go to my neighborhood store it's usually closer to $3-4 or more per pound. Since it was such a steal I added hot and sour soup to my menu for the week. There's a parking lot at this store. It's one way, and you must enter from Archer. DO NOT enter the wrong way or you won't be able to park--the spaces are angled and there's not enough space between the building and the fencing to turn yourself around. There are only about ten parking spaces here so I'm sure it gets filled pretty quick, but when I was here I was the only car parked here. There's street parking which can be pretty chancy, but maybe I'm just speaking from the perspective of someone who was here on a busy Sunday in Chinatown.

A line for grocery store fried chicken? Absolute cinema. People have been recommending I get into fried chicken reviews, and I've resisted as I really don't want to get fat, but this was the perfect storm to start a grocery store fried chicken review journey. I got to the front in the line and felt like a fish out of water. I sheepishly asked the employees, Darius R and Damariea J, what the move was as it was my first time getting fried chicken from here. I thought they'd be annoyed, but they were so helpful and welcoming. "Today is actually wing bucket Friday! A whole bucket is normally $17.99 but today it's $9.99. I can give you some of everything so you can try, but the spicy wings are my favorite." Hell yeah. Darius was the MAN. I took my tissi and wing bucket to the UIC campus for consumption. The tissi was a brick and landed at a 6/10, which currently ranks it 71st out of 94 grocery store birds I've tried, but the fried chicken was INSANE. Darius wasn't lying, the spicy wings were next level. The best grocery store chicken I've ever had. Boomin the Publix fried chicken. Shoutout to the Darius' and Damariea's of the world. Good people. As always, I am looking for new fantastic restaurants, and stores to try out, and share with: family, friends, and on Yelp. As you walk in it seems like a common corner store, groceries in the front, meat towards the rear. When I walked to the back I had a pretty good hunch this would be a great one. The fresh smell, it was very clean, and the amazing eye catching signage. You could feel like you just walked into in a sweet little store in Mexico. When they handed me the food I ordered I knew was on the right track. When I took my first bites I smiled, and knew, I needed to share this place. I was intrigued by the Pozole Verde sign out front. I had never had it before, so I placed my order for that and zero regrets. It comes out in a quart container with a plastic wrapped foam tray with: chopped onions, cilantro, radish, shredded cabbage, and mexican oregano. I added mostly everything but went easy on the oregano. The chunks of chicken were tender and not overcooked. The hominy and vegetables were just right as well. They have this to a science and it has to be near perfect. Now to the tacos: As you often see in neighborhood grocery stores the chorizo was hanging in back above the meat counter, so a house made chorizo taco was a given. The Al Pastor was reccomend by the one of the butchers, and I had a steak taco to round it, and myself, out. All I can say is that like the pozole everything was superb. Even the salsas.. I wish I knew of this place when I worked and lived in the area. I would definitely have known everyone there by name. I still smile thinking of it, and next time I'm in that hood, I will be there. I look forward to trying out a few more menu items, and picking up some of the fresh meat. So maybe don't slap Grandma... but you should at least pick her up and take her out to lunch here. Enjoy! #AlfieEats
