Italian Beef dipped with hot peppers

I wasn't sure what to expect from the sandwiches at Hollywood Deli but I was impressed. I have always seen the sign for Hollywood and I can finally check it off my bucket list. The deli is located inside of a convenience store. It's located on the back wall past the cash register. I was surprised by the variety of offerings that Hollywood Deli had. They list roughly 6 - 8 sandwiches that you can pick from the menu. I wouldn't be surprised if you can make a custom sandwich from the deli meat options in front of you. The cool thing about Hollywood Deli is that they slice the meat in front of you. The gentleman that made my sandwich was generous with his portions so I was able to get two sandwiches from a six inch. Having the meat sliced fresh made the sandwich taste better. I do like that you can pick up other essential items while grabbing your food. The inside is larger than I expected, especially being connected to an apartment building. I can see myself becoming a regular at Hollywood Deli just for the sandwiches alone. The prices are reasonable for the deli items as well as the essential items.

My goodness, what a F BOMB hole in the wall spot in edgewater. I enjoy riding my bike and exploring new places to happened to stumble upon this. Small bodega but we'll equipped to make the meanest subs ever. I got the corned beef with a bunch of fixins. Workers were super helpful and the sandwich was HUGE. The entire place emanated a NYC bodega/chopped cheese/the ocky style vibe. The deli is super close to the beach so I ended up biking down there and enjoying it on a bench. Bread from turano + meats from dietz & watson. Everything was sliced fresh (both meats and cheese). Ps: This is what subway strived to be with that BS "eat fresh" slogan and Hollywood deli has more than succeeded

When you enter, this corner store may just seem like your typical neighborhood stop for snacks or any items you may have forgotten from your trip to the grocery store. What you see when you go to the back is a full on deli, carrying a wide variety of deli meats, cheeses and toppings. I came with a friend wanting to get a quick italian beef. We came on a Wednesday night and quickly were able to order our 6" italian beef sandwiches. The man behind the counter was friendly and made our sandwiches swiftly. I was impressed to see they cut all their meats and cheeses on demand, ensuring freshness. First thing I noticed was how loaded the sandwich was. The price is generous for how much beef and peppers they give you. They also soak half the loaf to ensure the meat juices flavor covers the bread. The meat was tender, and the giardiniera is what you'd expect to get. The bread was soft but kept the mountain of meat inside nicely. It was delicious. I am eager to come back and try some other types of sandwiches they offer.

No frill behind this beef. Really good for $8. It's also convenience store so you can grab some chips & a drink if that makes it better for you. Juices tasted solid and the meat was the best consistency. Dude was super chill.

Easily one of the best spots in the neighborhood, quality sandwiches, and the owners are always very friendly.

No nonsense, best deli sandwich on the north side of Chicago at the cheapest price. Hands down.

Stopped in to get a case of LaCroix and figured I'd get a sandwich. I wrongly assumed they'd be pre-made in a refrigerator case. Not only are they making them fresh to order, they're cutting the meat and cheese fresh too! And when they say 12", they mean it! Got a turkey yesterday and went back today for a roast beef. So much better than Subway and very reasonably priced. Definitely found my new go-to sandwich shop!

Shout out to him for doing the damn thing. Although I would like to mention it was I who named it and claimed it for myself way back in 2001 after a visit to the city for a college conference. However me and my bestie couldn't figure out how to make it happen on a 20,000 labor organizer salary lmao. So we remain on the east coast while my swagger jacking little brother paints the Windy City red. Anyway because he's so in love with this city and knows its in and outs, I often send him dubious "influencer content" of recent transplants that act like just because THEY just Columbus'd a new spot it must be new to EVERYONE. And the recommendations are often awful and likely paid for (extorted). It sends him into a rage which again - we love. My fave kind of terrible content to send him is Top 10 burger spots in Chicago. The lists are often wrong, outdated, and criminally under seasoned. Every once in a while though there is a fleeting moment of alignment and Little Bad Wolf is it. This truly may be the best burger in Chicago. Food: -Wolf burger - egg fried HARD for me -Bad burger - add egg for my brother -Bad burger - as is for my mom -crab cakes - for SIL -mashed potato- for the toddler -Brussels sprouts for the table The patties were well seasoned and melted in my mouth. I adore crispy onion straws. Beer was crisp and refreshing. Service was outstanding Perfect vibe on a midday Monday Bench and chair seating for all bodies. 100% worth the hype! The menu description is also a good way to annoy your loved ones. See pics for my friend's visceral reaction lmaooo

And I don't eat meats that are made with nitrates. So that knocks out the whole sandwich menu. Oh and I just don't like mushrooms. It's not their problem! Believe me, I know I'm a hot mess. You can't just order a sandwich with chicken and arugula because everything is pre-made and the chicken diced up and is already mixed with red bell peppers, more like a chicken salad sandwich, rather than just a piece of chicken breast waiting for some bread and accoutrements which is what I expected after reading the menu on my phone the day before choosing it for a visit. So it's impossible to get a custom sandwich where you pick and choose what's on it. But they were extremely nice answering all my questions about the food. I could maybe get some focaccia and a side of broccoli if I was desperate and nothing else was open. But I was in no rush and just went home and made something for myself. But my partner really enjoyed it so I'm glad we stopped by to check it out. It's definitely unique and convenient if you don't have so many food allergies like I do. I had already had my coffee fix for the day so I neglected to ask if they have nondairy milk options. There's limited seating inside but lots outside if the weather's nice! Cute little place.

I doubt anyone leaves feeling less jolly than they did going in. On this visit, I started with the After Word to drink. It was light-bodied, not at all too sweet, and possibly went down *too* easily. We split the short rib poutine and I can't think of a better dish to get you through the winter. The meat absolutely melted in the mouth and the cheese was abundant and rich. Would order again in a heartbeat! We also tried the alligator bites as a seasonal special. I'd not had alligator before, but they were super crispy and spicy with an addictive gochujang sauce. It really does taste like chicken. If you've ever wanted to try alligator, this is the place to do it. For the main event, I opted for the red beans and rice hand pie. It came with a light, citrus salad and delicious hand cut fries with 3 dipping sauces, which were very fun to try. I loved the buttery pie crust but the filling tasty very tomato forward- I was missing the heat of a traditional red beans & rice and wished there was more seasoning. Still good. As usual, the portions were generous for the price and we left with leftovers. Absolutely recommend making the trek over here to give B&B a try, and will be back soon!

The servers are always really laid back, and nothing feels rushed. I think it's part of the charm; somewhere to go and relax and take your time to enjoy the vibe. And you know what would help the vibe even more? Including the bread pudding on the menu full time. Keeping that bad boy stocked for me at all times. When you first walk in, you have to show your ID since this is an adults-only bar establishment. (1) You can then choose to sit in the front bar area, if you want a full menu, but use the bar for ordering service. (2) If you keep walking through the front bar area, you reach the host stand at the top of the ramp. This is where you can put your name in to sit in the main dining room, upstairs, or outside. (3) However, you can also walk through to the left of the host stand to another bar area that has full menus, but bar service for ordering. This is our preferred spot because we can often find a seat and order with the bar. Do note that, during busy times, part of this bar area is managed by the host stand and will be labeled as such. The extensive beer menu is our favorite. We have our favorite food items, so all our decision making revolves around which beer we will get. They always have a bit of everything style-wise, from all over the world, but with a local-brewery focus. Seasonal emphasis is also taken into consideration when they curate the beer list. It is always rotating and we love it! Beers are served in the recommended glasses from the breweries. It's a great drinking experience from start to finish! Our food orders are eternally set: I get the Nueske Ham sandwich with fries and aioli. My husband gets the Reuben sandwich with fries and aioli. This meal is so perfect we'll probably never get anything different, despite the menu being delicious across the board. The wildest we get is sometimes splitting the two sandwiches. No reason to mess with a good thing! Other notable great things about Hopleaf: (1) Kind, knowledgeable, and professional staff. (2) Reasonable prices for high quality and great variety products. (3) Clean Belgian Bar decor/vibe with lots of space for folks to enjoy their time. (4) They are open late and serve food late. Thank you for being an amazing local spot, Hopleaf! We'll see you soon!
