First Slice Pie Cafe has been our favorite spot for Sunday Brunch since we moved to the area in Spring 2022. We love the food, the staff, and the full dining experience. First and foremost, the food is delicious and affordable. Win-win! My husband and I love everything on the menu, but we definitely have our favorites. My husband loves the buffalo chicken wrap and I love the caramelized onion and bacon quiche. Yum! He likes the side of chips and I love the side salad. The salad is the perfect sweet and savory combo with greens, apples, and vinaigrette. We love the staff! They are so friendly, helpful, and welcoming! We are so grateful for their kindness and professionalism! Prices are great, the space is delightful, and everything is clean! Plus, if you need items to go, they have all your needs! We like to get a full quiche to slice into pieces and put in the freezer for lunches at work throughout the week. The short walk in this torrential downpour was so worth it. Came here after work today and felt like a light lunch and First Slice Pie proved to be the perfect choice (especially on a rainy day) Felt the need to get my veggies in so went with their Goat Cheese and Roasted Veggie Sandwich. Had to add my protein so added chicken. I am a big fan of all of the things that came in this sandwich so it was an easy choice for me. Great sandwich indeed. The creamy goat cheese blended everything so well together and the crispy cauliflower added a delightfully refreshing crunch. And can't forget to mention that poached pear...genius addition to add a little sweetness without over saucing and taking away from the healthiness of a veggie sandwich lol. And how can't I not get a slice of pie from a place with the word Pie In the name? Went with a slice of Michigan Sour Cherry and...WOW. PERFECT crust married to the perfect filling. I'm so satisfied right now (I literally am writing this post meal) Such a small, simple and charming sit down cafe. My type of joint. Just what the doctor ordered for lunch. First Slice Pie Cafe is such a fantastic neighborhood spot, and Michelangelo made me feel incredibly welcome to the neighborhood from the second I walked in. It is a great stop for locals since it has that cozy, small hole-in-the-wall vibe. They have an impressive pie selection alongside plenty of other options, making it hard to choose just one slice. The coffee toffee pie was silky smooth, delivering a dominant coffee flavor in every bite that was nicely rounded out by the subtle sweetness of the toffee at the end. The apple pie featured an incredible crust with a filling that was perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. The key lime pie was deliciously tart, refreshing, and beautifully creamy, while the strawberry rhubarb struck the ideal sweet-and-tart balance with a delicious crumb topping. I'm not a pie fanatic but curiosity led me to pull the car over and stop in this place that I drive past so often. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm and no one was in here. The woman manning the front desk was very warm and welcoming. I got a slice of Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie and a slice of Chocolate Cream pie and both slices were the richest, most delicious pies I have ever tasted in my life. I'm not one to have a sweet tooth for pies and I'm very particular about desserts, but these slices are dangerous. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie slice tastes like a huge Reese's cup that was slightly melted. All I needed was a glass of milk and I may have never left. Would have given this place 5 stars but each slice is a hefty 5 dollars and I didn't try any of their sandwiches and menu items. My husband and I stopped by on Pi Day, which made it extra fun to grab a slice for $3.14. We went with the apple pie. They had prepared plenty of pies to last the whole day, so we had our pick. It was just a pickup visit this time, but I believe you can also sit inside and order. The space has a cozy, casual vibe, and everyone we interacted with was friendly. It wasn't the very best pie we've had, but it wasn't bad either--solid, homey, and satisfying. They also sell sandwiches, soups, salads, and a few other things, which makes it a nice neighborhood spot for a quick lunch or treat. It's really nice to have a local business selling pie, and I'd try it again if I were in the mood, maybe with one of their more adventurous flavors next time. read more

Imagine it's Thanksgiving dinner. Same as every year, you are looking forward to Nana's fresh baked, still slightly warm, and delicious pie. Then, for reasons unknown, one year the pie was made sometime prior and came out of a high-powered refrigerator. Maybe the thing was made that day, but all of the sudden it ceases to be that things you've been craving all year. The French Silk pie suffers from this very problem. I have no clue when it was made, but the cooler it (and all the other pies) are held is turned so low, I thought the mousse was ice cream for a hot second. As for the flavors, these were okay. The mousse's creaminess started to make itself known as temperature increased, one being chocolatey, and the other being unknown, but too thick to be whipped cream. As for the crust and chocolate shavings, both of these were too scant to an impact. Then there is the Cortado... if this were a latte, I'd be happy, for something that should be equal parts espresso and milk, there was WAYYY too much milk. If you're going to do something, do it right. Thus, we are left with an overall experience that can only be described as underwhelming and disappointing. Unless something changes, I do not see reason to come vs. buying a pie at Whole Foods. read more

I love First Slice. Have been coming here since they had a location in the Old Water Treatment Plant on Michigan Avenue about 20 years ago. They moved into the Ravenswood Arts Center and recently now are in this location on Montrose and Damen which I think used to be a diner and kept the old school diner interior. They also have their original location in Andersonville too which has a bit of a nicer atmosphere. Both location though have great pies First Slice offers, you can't go wrong with any of them since I've tried slices of them all over the years as well as going specifically to First Slice to get a whole chocolate cream pie for my birthday which has been a yearly tradition for nearly 10 years now. One thing about this location is it was fairly hot inside when I went last time and I think they had an issue with the heat. If anyone would ask me where to get a good pie I would immediately recommend this place. The pies are incredible and on Fridays when there is pizza I always get a goat cheese and plain cheese pizza. Came here to get a last minute Friendsgiving dessert and was pleasantly surprised with the variety of pies to choose from. From traditional sweet pies to some savory options, there's something for everyone! I opted to get a traditional pecan pie. It cost just under $40 which was a bit pricey, but the pie was pretty big and a hit during thanksgiving especially with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. Really liked how it wasn't too overly sugary/sweet. One of the better pecan pies I've eaten! Would definitely come back here again if I'm in need of pies! Interested to try their chocolate pecan pie! Space itself seems setup to just be a grab and go spot. Not sure if they had seating in the back or not, but either way worth stopping in for a slice or a whole pie. Can't believe I just discovered this place! Went on a Friday - pizza day! They do these personal pizzas for just $8. Had the goat cheese and pear - spectacular and margarita - deliciousness! We were greet upon stepping into the store and the staff were attentive and friendly. Indoor seating: The place have an area for seating available inside. Mango strawberry pie: It is a unique combo and tastes good together. It isn't not too sweet so it would pair well with ice cream on top or be good for those that don't like too much sweetness. How have I not reviewed this place yet?! I LOVE THEIR PIES. French Silk, Key Lime, Chocolate Creme. MY GAWD. I'm not even a "sweets" person, but I will devour this pie. It is so delicious, creamy, tangy, just . . . OMG. They're a bit on the slightly pricey (slightly?) side, but WHO CARES. It's a treat, and a damn good one! I also love their business model - they have a program that you can subscribe to different meals, and it benefits organizations that feed people. That makes me feel good about buying their pie. A very friendly gentleman took our order, not sure if he's considered a barista, but he was super sweet. The blueberry cheesecake caught my eye and tasted nice, but I'll definitely be back for the peanut butter pie! It's a real winner in my book. If you love peanut butter, you'll adore it; it's very sweet. I'll have to try the cherry pie next time--everything looks so tempting! My friend ordered the duck mozzarella sandwich, which was tasty and fresh, but we added some hot sauce for a lil sumthin, sumthin. We were lucky to be able to Park across the street where it's free. When walking to the cafe it didn't seem like there was much seating, but we were pleasantly surprised to find plenty of space in the back room. The atmosphere in the back room felt cozy, like a hidden gem cafe, and surprisingly, it wasn't cold back there at all. The cafe front was almost cold but not. The cashier was extremely friendly and helpful answering our questions! we ordered the key lime pie, coffee toffee pie, french silk, and a caprese sandwich. Everything came out very quick and was extremely fresh. The sandwich tasted so healthy and delicious while still being flavorful. The pies were SO GOOD. I love key lime pie and was craving it specifically and it was perfect. Tangy enough to feel it in your cheeks but it slowly goes down with the whipped cream. The coffee toffee pie was super rich and flavorful without being overpowering. I'll definitely be coming back here again very soon. It's worth the 30 min drive. One thing to note is that some of the pies are only special order and you can't get just one slice (like the coconut cream pie). You walk into a quaint cafe on an intersection. The ambiance has been kept the way buildings were back in the days: rustic and like you are in your grandmother's kitchen. I ordered the chocolate peanut butter slice. It was a solid bite. The consistency was thick and creamy, nice Oreo crust that was crunchy and flaky and the layers of chocolate and peanut butter mousse made for a wonderful experience. Stopped by yesterday for a few slices of pie to go, the staff was friendly and helpful and even gave me an extra mini pie! The blueberry cheesecake was me and my friend's favorite but the Michigan cherry and the balsamic pear raspberry were also incredible. Purchased a pecan pie for Thanksgiving. Way too sweet for my liking and also there were inedible parts (pecan shell pieces?). Also would help if there was some kind of baking instruction on the box, ie was pie already pre-baked or raw, temperature, over time, etc, because looking up 'baking pecan pie' on the internet gives you one hundred different results. read more

They each shared their favorite and we tried them both, and were not disappointed. The blueberry cheesecake and the balsamic raspberry pear pie. Both were very different, but so good. The blueberry was light and fluffy, with a tinge of lemon. The raspberry pear was unique and very good. The crust was flaky and perfectly baked. The cafe is super cute and had a steady stream of customers on a Saturday afternoon. The sandwiches and salads looked so good, and I will definitely stop in when back in Andersonville. 5/5 for the blueberry cheesecake! i had seen a previous review that described it as "light and fluffy" and that proved to be the perfect description. got the french silk as well and it was tasty. pretty up to par with other french silk pies i've had. i loved the cute little egg which tasted like a peanut m&m. 3.5/5. we got to eat in a separate room with maybe seating 15-20 people. someone else in our group got the blueberry peach streusel and was not a fan so i would avoid that one. overall - friendly workers. quaint spot. decent pie. can't complain! read more

Still love First Slice, and it's definitely time to update this review. Really what I've had here before is... you guessed it, pie. The French Silk is still my favorite; it's amazing. But this year, like any responsible person, I had a Thanksgiving meal at home instead of going to a restaurant like I usually would. I decided to order a pie from First Slice, but when going through their Thanksgiving menu I picked up a few additional things to have as meals throughout the week. Everything was totally delicious. I ordered the roasted poblano soup, turkey pot pie, bacon onion quiche, and green beans with sour cherries and shallot butter. The green beans weren't my total favorite but they were good. The soup, however, was really good (though not terrible spicy), and both the quiche and the pot pie were delicious. The crust was nice and flaky, and it heated up pretty well although I had to put it in at least 10 minutes longer than their suggested cook time to get it warm in the middle. I wasn't sure if I would like the pot pie because it had mushrooms in it, but I couldn't actually taste the mushroom. I will definitely be buying those three items again. For Thanksgiving, they allowed for curbside pickup, which I very much appreciated. They were also limiting people in the store, and there were people there pretty steadily whilst I was there. The employee who brought out my order was also wearing a mask, which is much appreciated. I'm looking into ordering for Christmas too! read more
