First Response was really great throughout the whole process. CJ came out to offer a free assessment of my basement and suggestions on what he thought would be our best options to move forward because we were getting water in the basement only during heavy rains. CJ wrote up an estimate, and a couple of weeks later he and his crew came back to complete the work. It was a messy job, but they cleaned up after themselves and really did a great job. Everything looks neat and seamless. Our french drain is guaranteed for life, so we'll see if we get any water in our basement going forward--but I don't think we'll have any issues. I found First Response from Home Advisor. It was my first time hiring someone I didn't know from the internet. My local folks were just too busy for months. These YELP reviews made me feel comfortable to hire this company. Turns out CJ, the owner, was as good as people said. Hard worker, answers his phone, and arrived as planned. His estimate for this smaller, outside french drain was done sight unseen. The job was harder because of the steep slope ( it didn't occur to me) and CJ didn't blink an eye. Bill was as promised. I contacted FRW last week and CJ made an appointment to meet with me the next day. About an hour before our appointment he called to say he would be late. An hour and a half later he called to say he was having truck issues and probably would not be able to keep the appointment that day. He said he'd call the next day to reschedule. I had some water seep through a pipe penetration during heavy rain days. I called first response and they answered my call immediately and stopped by on their way home 20 mins after my call to take a look at the issue and scheduled a time to come over the same weekend. They came as promised, did a excellent/clean job, took time to explain and clarify my questions and offered a warranty as well. They also promised that he would fix it for free again if I had the issue again. Now I have to wait for the next heavy rain, but am confident that they sealed it well. read more

Not sure where to start. If you don't have time to read this, I'll just advise you not to waste your time with this unreliable firm. I was referred to First Response Waterproofing thru HomeAdvisor because I wanted to get a French drain installed on the side of my house to resolve drainage issues. The HomeAdvisor rep scheduled a time at 8am on a day over a week in advance. Normally I have to be at work by that time but that was the earliest I could arrange. When it came to the day of the appointment, 8am passed by and 10 minutes later I called the number I had First Response Waterproofing. The man who answered was named CJ. He told me that he had tried calling me an hour earlier and since I didn't answer, he didn't arrive. I explained that I don't carry my phone every minute when I'm showering in the morning -- CJ just stuck to his story that he calls people before an appointment to confirm. He made no attempt to apologize despite my frustration. I immediately called HomeAdvisor to register a complaint, and was about to post on Yelp when I decided to call First Response Waterproofing and give them one more chance to address the situation. The same guy answered and when I told him I was going to post on Yelp, he literally begged me not to do so. He said that most of their referrals from HomeAdvisor are no-shows so that's why he called me at 7am to confirm. He apologized profusely and told me that he'd come back out anytime, and that he'd give me a 10 percent discount and beat any other price. I decided to give him a break so we scheduled a time for him to come at 8am a few days later. So on that day, it nears 8am and I get a call from CJ that he was running late because of traffic (there had been a major rainfall overnight) so he thought he'd be 10 minutes late. Another 20 minutes pass and he calls again to tell me that he's stuck in traffic. He finally showed up at least 30 minutes late. I then showed CJ the area where I had issues with drainage. His assessment was that there were two different approaches. Both approaches involved installing a dry well where runoff would flow, and would be connected to downspouts from our roof. He said he would write them both up, and implied he'd have them to me by the next day at latest. He didn't mention the 10 percent discount this time at all. Well, it's been more than 2 weeks now and I haven't received any sort of quote or phone call. I tried emailing CJ at the email address on his business card and it bounced. I guess all I can say is that I'm glad I didn't hire this firm because CJ proved to be completely unreliable. One more thing: anyone can get a coupon for 10 percent off from the First Response Waterproofing website, so that tells me that this discount is as much of a joke as the company it comes from. read more

His quotes for two options were reasonable and he clearly knew what he was talking about (much more so than the other company I got a quote from). The whole thing was completed in 3.5 business days. Don and his crew were great from start to finish. Knowing this was going to be an expensive venture, I received 3 quotes from 3 diff companies. Don was the only individual who wanted to diagnose the problem, the other companies only wanted to offer solutions. Don's knowledge on waterproofing is extensive and thorough, he truly knows his craft. After hiring First Response, they were true professionals throughput.
