Things with Mike started out great! Promises of owner discounts and such. I received my first quote for 1700 for a two bedroom apartment, which he states his services would be cheaper than U-haul. I pack all my things and send him the list of my things for the truck. I get my response the night before said movers are supposed to show up. The total is now 1000$ more than the original quote, more expensive than a U-haul. They now claim that I cannot claim my 450$ (to hold my spot) after their new quote because it was the day before they arrive that I received my second quote. When I called to get my payment back i was met with cussing and child like excuses because I wanted answers on why my rate was practically a 50% increase on my original quote. Calling me and my roommate names and cussing at us. I'm appalled at this kind of scammy behavior. Don't waste your time. read more

Ellen was always in communication with us and was very accommodating since our closing date kept getting pushed back. We decided to move all of our boxes prior to the movers coming to help cut the cost of the moving. The heavy furniture and entire contents of our garage had to be moved. 5 guys showed up on our moving day and they were great. They got right to work, and were very professional. They wrapped all of our stuff nicely and secured it on the truck. We still had some items at our house that had to be moved after the day was done and there was not enough room in the size truck that they had. My first experience with First Class Movers when I called and left a message for Ellen for a quote. She was, from the very beginning thorough, personable and a pleasure to deal with. In our many conversations and emails (the move dates/times/specifics kept changing on my end) Ellen was patient and helpful! The next person I dealt with was when Mike (the owner) came to give me the quote he was wonderful. I was dealing with a move out of state with things in 3 locations going to 3 locations (complicated I know) including 2 storage units and 3 homes. Mike was wonderful, very calm and thorough and was understanding of how complicated the move was. He assured me that his movers were great and could handle the move. I felt that if something came up, that First Class could handle it. The first day of the move was when Victor and four workers came to pack my home. They were all very nice, professional and worked hard. As I am unpacking I have realized just what a great job they did! That same day we had to go to a 10x25 storage unit and relocate what I wanted to keep and what needed to be given away/trashed. Although I was very stressed at this point all of the guys were wonderful, engaging and pleasant which helped the situation for me. Two days later was the move to a vacation home. This time Victor and the guys had to pack the truck then drive on a summer Saturday to the shore, horrible traffic. I was upset and when I arrived Victor and all the guys were happy, ready to work and in the heat seemed to be superhuman in their work. Then it was on to a storage unit! Again, great work ethic. At the end of the day they had to drive back to their location but once again, they were in good spirits. The last part of the move was a 3+ hour drive on the following Monday to an apartment. The new crew leader was Mo (who had been with the move from the beginning) and wow was he and his two workers ready to move us in to our apartment. The arrived on time, worked with the building people and brought everything in and took all of the trash with them. Again hard workers and their attention to detail amazing. Summing up the move (which everyone knows is one of the top stressors in life) it was wonderful because of the quality of professionals that First Class employs. First Class Movers could be called A+ Movers. We moved 25 years of accumulated stuff with several logistical complications, and Mike and his team were professional every step of the way. From the start, we liked Mike's approach. His estimate was very fair, and he made many helpful suggestions even before we booked the job. Communication with Mike and Ellen through email and phone was excellent. Mike also demonstrated that he cared about his movers - he didn't want them to work late into the night. We respected that. We did a lot of packing ourselves, but needed help toward the end; Mike sent some of the team to pack for us at a very reasonable rate. Each of the movers was consistently pleasant and helpful. My first mistake was hiring this company 2x. Ellen who works in the office was professional and helpful with scheduling the days for my moves. I met with Mike (the owner) to get my quotes. Everything seemed fine until the actual moves. For the first move, Anthony and his crew rushed and were sloppy. They brought in an extra mover (when I was quoted for 5) and no one informed me. After the move, Anthony tried to get me to pay in cash for the extra guy because it "would be cheaper." He then became persistent with me paying in cash/check for the move. He then asked me if I was sure if I wanted to use the company (which he works for) for my 2nd move and said he can do it on the side. I asked him if he had insurance (knowing he didn't) and he said no. I told him absolutely not. I called and informed Mike (the owner) and he claimed he was not aware of an additional mover being added to my move. My 2nd move wasn't better. They sent over the same crew. They were late, stayed in their truck to eat their breakfast. Anthony was rude and confronted me because I complained about that additional worker for my first move. He told me he didnt want to work until 8pm thats why they brought an extra mover. I informed him it was his or the company's responsibility to inform their client about the change. Again, him and his crew had to be monitored as they did whatever they wanted. I personally witnessed them breaking items of mine as they were loading the truck. They taped the storage bins together to load them on the hand truck, and instead of carefully untaping them, they were rough and moving the bins up and down trying to get the tape off causing the bins to topple over. (Everything in the bins were wrapped carefully in bubble wrap). The items were sentimental and I received no apology. Instead Anthony said "what do you want me to do? Nothing I can do about it." Then they ended up taking a 2 hour lunch (first claimed they were having a 30 min lunch, then 1hr, then 1hr 30 then when they got to my location they claimed they didnt have time to eat which resulted into a 2 hour lunch). When questioning Anthony why items were out of the bags I gave them, he claimed "you must not remember how you packed them." Very unprofessional. I called Ellen and informed her of all of the events. The company was very nice about refunding me for the broken items. However, I didn't appreciate the tacky and unprofessional note from Mike (the owner) who basically blamed me for how the items were wrapped which is why they broke. Instead of a simple apology and taking responsibility of how his crew handled the bins, he decided to be tacky and unprofessional. I would NEVER refer this company to anyone. The people you hire for your company is a reflection on you. read more

As a positive the movers themselves did a great job and the company worked with us when our closing got moved back. Unfortunately when the quote was given, the owner somehow forgot I had told him we had a storage unit to stop at, after we had a long conversation about the size and where it was. I also had confirmed this via phone prior to the move. Because of this the move was $600 more expensive than quoted and took a lot longer. Our experience with First Class Movers of New Jersey. The owner is Mike and his on the-job chief is/was Anthony. When their Estimator came, we opened every closet, pantry, kitchen cabinet, furniture drawers and doors, the attic, basement and garage. We wanted an accurate estimate. Also described where we were moving to (under 2 miles away) and he said they'd moved plenty of people to it. 1/ On moving day, the team stepped into our garage and promptly knocked over a tall glass-door cabinet, shattered all the glass and doors and left it for us to clean up. A total loss. 2/ They also cracked, chipped and/or broke: A] mirrored exteriors of 5 separate pieces of furniture B] 4 glass shelves from a vertical display case for antiques were missing C] broke the frame of a large, heirloom antique mirror that was my mother's D] shattered and destroyed a desk E] destroyed large adjustable, cutting/sewing table F] broke glass of framed art work that punctured the art G] destroyed vase and silk flowers H] crushed bottom legs (feet) of a credenza I] bent Art Deco, antique wall clock time-changing arm so unusable; chipped off unique black powdered paint from Aztec facing J] broke bicycle chain guard K] broke a 3' x 5' marble table top in half. At day's end they demanded an additional $3850 to unload at our destination and to come back for day 2. There was still plenty to move. They totally underestimated. For day 2, they showed up with a smaller truck and fewer guys. At the end of the day 2, Anthony told us stuff they didn't bring this trip, we'd have to move ourselves or they'd have to come back a third day for yet more money. They didn't want to bring up a large marble slab a flight of stairs (which the estimator already knew about). Anthony said it wouldn't fit. I looked at him... they brought it up. To make sure all cartons were moved to the right places in the apartment, we labeled them by name: Living Room, Bedroom 1 or 2, kitchen, garage, etc. Many of them were placed incorrectly requiring us to lug them up a flight or two. Weeks later, we woke up in bed and noticed daylight was coming through a large gap of the heavy furniture light panel directly overhead. This panel was supposed to be secured to two vertical 9-foot cabinets by using the original, multiple screws. Instead, the movers slapped a couple of nails through which couldn't hold the weight. During those weeks, the overhead panel gradually separated from the supporting cabinets. Our heads would have been crushed when it inevitably crashed. After that we inspected how they re-assembled our other furniture units and discovered they were so sloppily done, we hired someone else to do fix them. Getting First Class Movers to repair damages directly was generally one stall after another. They said they couldn't find a glass/mirror repair place due to Covid-19. We recently used First Class Movers for a local move, and I would use them again. Accuracy of Quote: on the money! Curtis (their sales rep) came over to look at our stuff and estimate how much our move would be. He was accurate, and didn't charge us a penny over the estimate. This is extremely important in a moving company because you don't want them to quote you one number, then have the move run over and suddenly have the move cost a few hundred more than you thought. Curtis was honest and told us ways to save money (like by wrapping our paintings ahead of time). He gave us a higher quote than a competitor, but we went with him anyway because I felt more comfortable with his company. The move itself: The men were punctual, efficient, and polite. Access to the new property was obstructed by a nasty layer of snow/ice, and the men came prepared with shovels and willing to help remove the snow/ice. I was impressed by this attitude as they could have easily crossed their arms and watched as we struggled to remove this ice (and the minutes ticked by). read more

The experience of hiring these movers will forever haunt me-might sound dramatic, but so was the whole ordeal. I have always moved by myself but I have a 3 year old and decided to splurge. The quote was within my price range and the salesman Pat assured me multiple times "your quote is good, you don't pay for travel, the movers will assemble your furniture." Sounds great, right? I am such a do-it-yourselfer that I even moved 3 full carloads of the inventory by myself in the week before moving day. Make it simple for everyone, I thought. Well, they showed up late, refused to make eye contact despite my effort to be friendly and helpful, left half a shed full of stuff behind without telling us because they came with too small a truck. When we arrived at our destination, they demanded I pay before unloading, and suddenly the total was $400 over the quote. No one could tell me why. I called Pat and he said the movers said there was "additional inventory" but no one could tell me what. Then, they said travel time, which Pat explicitly told me I didn't have to pay for-otherwise I would have hired more locally. Then, he put me on the phone with an attack dog of a man named Chris who rudely told me things happen and basically I just had to deal with it. I paid out of desperation to get my belongings unloaded. What a chaotic mess. Every single box was clearly labeled but our stuff was strewn haphazardly in the wrong places. Our coffee table was broken then stuffed in the basement behind other boxes so we wouldn't notice. They left almost 3 hours early, did not assemble a single thing and yet I paid almost 50% more. What a scam. At that point I just wanted them out, I felt totally uncomfortable having my son around these people. PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID. I am NO prima donna and I know things happen, but this was a true scam. It makes me feel dirty just thinking that these people took advantage of me like that. Also, as instructed, I put a claim in for my broken table and have received no response. I probably never will. If you have things you care about or kids in your home please do not even for a second think this catastrophic mess of a company will help you. Worst money I ever spent, by far. Sadly this has been a most disappointing experience, Not only did the movers break a treasured artifact within my home during the move but the movers the company refused to take responsibility for the damage. The company seldom if ever extended the courtesy of returning my calls. The owner never returned a call. The company took more than 2 months before contacting their insurance company in order to make a claim. At that point the movers misrepresented what transpired and the insurance refused to reimburse me for the artifact, its repair or decreased value as a result. I have had some horrible experiences with movers before but I was really impressed with these guys. There quote was actually an overestimate and I ended up paying 20% LESS THAN THEY QUOTED ME!!! The guys were friendly and courteous and they didn't try to scam me with adding on secret charges at the end. They finished in less time than they expected and not one thing was damaged.
