Main Street Movers sent Alex Della Valle to my house to ensure I received an accurate quote for my move. Based on his assessment, three men and a 26 foot truck arrived on moving day. What should have been a simple two bedroom condo move took two round trips and 12 exhausting and stressful hours. The cost went from the estimated $2,000 to $3,000. I depended on Alex to know that in order to ensure a smooth move in a timely manner at the price he quoted, he needed to send a larger truck and more men. The three men arrived on time, were hardworking and careful with my belongings. However, during the last few hours, we were all exhausted. In a desperate effort to finish, I had to bring things in myself, and was unable to supervise. This resulted in the second load of boxes in complete disarray and many on the wrong floor of the house. A month later I am still unable to locate important items. When we called Main Street Movers to discuss it, Alex blamed the incompetence of sending too few men and a wrong size truck on their operations department. He denied low balling the estimate. The owners, Karen Mantzouranis and Tom Mantzouranis, refused to get on the phone at all or take any responsibility for our horrendous move. Best experience I have had with a moving company. I am writing this to help others who are wading through fake reviews and dealing with the stress of moving. The biggest difference: Communication with a local experienced office and aligning expectations they delivered from start to finish. Why they were good: + Landed the quote exactly, no surprises + Professional team who worked hard in a pandemic, in 100 degree heat, in 4th of July NYC traffic. I've heard nightmares of crews not showing up given how hard it is to staff right now. They all showed up on time: a team of 5 who had clearly worked together before and on-going with an experienced crew lead + No damage. I always expect a little since something has happened every time I have ever moved over 6 times How they were good: + Accurate quoting up front talking to an experienced mover (Michael) + Helped understand cost levers (high: packing; lower: I could pick up recycled boxes) (Maria and Michael) + On-going communication with the original points of contact (Michael and Maria) They weren't the cheapest. I've used the cheapest before and it still always ends up the same ultimate cost, but with more damage and time! But Main Street weren't the most expensive either. The price was fair and accurate when I saw the final bill. I would definitely recommend them and use them again. They also helped me learn a lot about the importance of communication from the start, through the process, and to the finish so they can land it the way I wanted. read more

These movers were superb. My parents moved after 50 years in the same house. 4 strong, careful and polite men. They wrapped all the furniture in blankets and taped them up, nothing even had a chance to scratch. We had so many boxes, and they handled them all quickly and efficiently. Absolutely nothing was broken when we unpacked. Two of the boxes had liquor, and they kindly told us to re-wrap with more newspaper as the bottles were too loose and likely to break. We put Blue painters tape on all the furniture and odds and ends that were to be moved. They didn't miss a thing. I told them that there was nothing in the bathrooms, but they asked us to check before they left, and I found one last thing that I forgot, a big basket can. They have huge boxes on wheels where they put all large odds and ends (ironing board, etc). Also their supervisor came over just before they left, to ask us if everything went smoothly and they packed carefully, then left me his card and cell. A+. Definitely recommend 100%. Reasonable rates, they drove from New Jersey to Pennsylvania and we paid a fixed rate of $2,020 for 4-5 hours (I forget which). Here's another tip: pack like hell a couple of days beforehand. We kept finding things we forgot until the last minute. If not, Main Street Movers will pack for you for a charge. read more

Main Street's team moved our family from South Orange to Jersey City yesterday. We were nervous and stressed. But the team, led by Carmelo, was outstanding -- taking great care with all of our items. They walked heavy furniture down tight stairwells as if they were carrying infant children. They wrapped things we didn't even expect them to wrap. They were all sunny and personable. They were people who seemed to love their jobs. They spent a lot of time with us at the new place -- making sure we had everything set up just the way we wanted it. Not sure if Main Street Movers (Bekins) are the worst movers on the planet but they are up there on the list. What a scam! The moving crew came in like the blitz with men they clearly picked up off the street to do the packing. We couldn't be everywhere to watch what was going on and believe me in retrospect they count on this. Inexperienced packers placed a Murano glass mirror in a picture box along with 2 televisions and a guitar. Of course, this was a catastrophe but who knew until the boxes were unpacked many weeks later on the receiving end. We moved from NY to Florida and since our street in NY could not accommodate a tractor trailer truck we needed shuttles which involved having our belongings being transferred from shuttles to the large tractor trailer truck. This is a recipe for disaster. So much of our stuff went missing that months later I'm still discovering losses. But did the company care. No. At the first complaint, the woman owner, of Main Street Movers feigned sympathy by trying to relate to my broken Murano glass mirror but when I said I was suffering from the loss of memorabilia ie. my grandmother's heirlooms I'd inherited that her "employees" had either misplaced or taken, she told me rather emphatically that I didn't know what suffering was and she did since her husband had prostate cancer. Seriously, this is from a businesswoman. Sorry for your situation but I, have my own share of suffering that I did not care to go tit for tat with her. I know for a fact that they pull their workers off the street because one of the unpackers on the Floridian end is a local handyman. He does not work for Bekins or Main Street Movers. He is independent. I'll give them credit by saying he was far superior a human than the scummy people who packed up on the NY end. No matter how professional Main Street appears under the guises of Bekins movers they are far from it. We took out extra insurance which didn't help us at all. The driver/boss man runs in and out like the blitz and by the time you know you have losses, it's too late to prove it. Stay away. They most likely pay to remove bad reviews. read more

We were super impressed with Main Street Movers! We were moving locally in Maplewood, NJ, with both houses having tight staircases and multiple levels. The movers were friendly and extremely careful with everything. They carefully disassembled and reassembled large items, making sure everything was finished before they left. I've moved too many times in life all over the country and have had hit and miss experiences with movers. This company sets the standard. I also don't write many reviews, but since I've stressed too many times about about whether a moving company is actually legit, I'm here to assure you this company is. Another company we called barely asked any questions and then gave us a quote which was a red flag. Nicole did a comprehensive estimate over zoom, so there were no surprises. We moved from Hoboken to Maplewood during COVID. The movers all wore masks and were professional, quick, courteous and nice. They even quickly fixed a previously broken leg on a dresser. Karen was very helpful and quickly answered any questions/concerns we had. It's clear from top to bottom that Main Street takes pride in what they do, and isn't trying to screw people. These guys are simply the best. Fair pricing, the team showed up on time and were meticulous with packing ur stuff. Polite and friendly and very professional. No attitudes and worked their butts off. Our mover was 12 hours making two trips and they only took a 40 minute break. Never once was someone told to "get moving" this were like machines. Main Street Movers is an incredible company. My experience with them was top notch from my first phone call to the unloading of the last box. I initially called with less than a week to go until my moving day, and they get right down to business. Nicole came to my house to determine my estimate, which was emailed to me within 24 hours. She took notes as we walked through my house, and the estimate that I received accurately reflected everything that was discussed during the walk through. The estimate was for 4 movers and 8 hours. I didn't have a huge moving budget, and their prices were extremely reasonable. I decided to utilize their services over 3 additional moving companies which I had contacted. There was just something about their process and their personnel which appealed to me, and I made my decision. The team of 4 movers arrived right on time the morning of my move. Gene was the supervisor of the team, along with Carmelo and 2 other gentlemen whose names I don't recall (they were mostly positioned in the truck - I'm sorry guys!!). Upon their arrival, Gene asked me to walk him through the house to run through what needed to be loaded up. After that, they promptly began. All furniture was padded and generously wrapped, and room by room. My glass coffee table and my glass dining room hutch were carefully wrapped and loaded. I just stood back and let them do their thing. It was a very hot and muggy day, but the entire crew worked quickly and steadily. They were cheerful and funny and friendly. They packed everything up in about 3 hours - a testament to their teamwork. Grover even showed up to check that everything was moving along to my satisfaction. When we arrived at the new house, they immediately began unloading the truck. Gene once again asked for a walk through where I showed him each room and indicated what should end up where. Gene even offered suggestions about furniture layout when I wasn't sure, and he was spot on. Again, hot, brutally humid day, and they never slowed down or showed signs of irritability or anything. They actually made it fun. Very personable individuals. When they were finished, they came in at UNDER the estimated time of 8 hours - they were done in a little over 6 hours. My final bill was calculated accordingly. I hope to not move again for a long time, but if I need to I know who to call. I will be leaving reviews wherever I can to sing their praises. I cannot stress enough how this team took what is an extremely stressful event and made it so pleasant. If you're now reading this because you're weighing pros/cons of different movers, please stop right here and call them. You won't regret it. There were two move outs (for staging and for sale) and storage for 9 and 3 months respectively until they moved my items in to the new place. I cannot say more positive things about Main Street Movers. Firstly, the professionalism of a moving company was unparalleled. From the timeliness in getting me a quote, to their throughness re: my items and what needed special care, to the calls in advance to ensure I had what I needed. Main Street Movers were most attentive to every detail before the move, which gave me great reassurance that I'd made the best selection in a moving company. This was my 16th move, and my 3rd move in 3 years. So, I was absolutely spent on packing and moving, but I had to move once more. I needed a moving company that would "help" me get through this emotional time (post divorce and relocation). And, Karen, Tom, Rosa & Grover did not disappoint. And ladies, I especially liked that that the company is a woman-owned business (Karen is part of a husband/wife team) so she was very helpful to me. Furthermore, on the actual move date, Collin, Carmelo and George were speedy with the move and also patient as I was having a meltdown in the kitchen. They were like "no worries, we'll just do that last." I expected them to lose patience with me, but they didn't and they helped. Their demeanors were incredible and very kind. Also, they moved me in RECORD time, and the bill was UNDER estimate vs at or over estimate (which I experienced with my last move with Father & Son Moving). And pls note that their fees were comparable if not a little less as I contacted Oz, Brantley and FlatRate Movers. Also, the moving trio refused to leave until I had all the boxes and furniture in the rooms I wanted. And post, I got a call from Karen confirming that my move was ok and to see if I needed anything. I was really impressed with everything. From the initial evaluation and estimating process until the actual move day, everything was great. Nicole visited the two locations that we were moving from. She wanted to see everything first hand to provide an accurate estimate. She also gave us tips on how to make the moving process easier and quicker. All of that made the actual move day much better. Elvis arrived right on time with his crew. He walked through and evaluated everything before bringing the required equipment. I was shocked at how many blankets they had. Everything was wrapped and protected before being moved. They even had their own tools for the pieces that needed to be disassembled. The best part was that nothing was required of me. Once I told them what was being moved, it was done. When we arrived at our new home Elvis again walked through so we could tell him where everything was going. As soon as that was done, they laid out protective coverings on all the floors. They even had a special blanket to protect the door. Everything was super quick after that. Wow, what a loophole. Our family selected Main Street Movers to transport our property across States. During this, substantial damage was caused to our goods. In conversation with Co-founder, the Company response was that the paperwork/insurance/etc., was through Bekins Van Lines. They (Main Street Movers) had no authority to resolve the damage personal property, in my opinion caused by Main Street Movers workers. Expect little ownership of actions here.
