I had a great group of guys help me with my move. I've moved a lot and have always had a pretty good experience, but these guys were polite and very easy to deal with. Oh, and quiet. No yelling across the way. My new neighbors said they never heard them. I forgot the name of the foreman, but if I ever move again, I'd like them to do my move. I removed one star because I felt the move was pricey. The standard has been 3 hour minimum. I had a four hour minimum plus the one hour standard travel time. I gave a very detailed list and based on the list is how I received the estimate. In my opinion, I felt that they knew it would be completed in less time and this is how they made their money. DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY -- PLEASE READ I'm writing this on behalf of my parents, Scott and Ana Simon, both senior citizens who trusted Van Express Moving & Storage (Fairfield, NJ) with their entire home, a 5-bedroom house, garage, deck, and 3 bathrooms, for a move from New Jersey to Myrtle Beach about 5 months ago. The company seemed professional, had us sign everything online, claimed to be insured, and arrived on time. But after pickup, our belongings never arrived. They were 5 days late and kept giving different stories. We later discovered, on our own, that their truck had flipped over in Virginia, hit another car, and someone tragically died. They never told us the truth. They avoided calls, never took accountability, and offered no help in recovering even a single item. My parents lost everything, family photos, furniture, memories, gone forever. At their age, this has been traumatizing and life-changing. We had to start completely over from zero. The owner is David, and the representative who came to our home was Tuffick. They presented themselves as trustworthy, but when tragedy struck, they disappeared. Clearly a SCAM. All the red flags, every single one. They cancelled the contract the day of the move without prior notice saying they lost their license to do business in the state. Then they offered to have someone from a "partner company" come handle the move instead, but they would only take cash. When asked the name of the other company they couldn't provide it. Asked why no credit card payments are allowed, they gave a story about credit card payments causing problems with their checking account. They made it seem like they went above and beyond by sending this random person, but the contract has been signed for months! Overpriced | $2,000+ TL;DR - I have just been charged over $6,000 by Van Express for an absolute garbage of a moving job. One redeeming factor is how professional and courteous the packing crew was. I think the office bungled my job and sent out an ill-prepared crew. Regardless I'm now $6,000 in the hole, need to pay to have my stuff repacked, and have basically been told by their customer support - to eff off to a 3rd party claims company for my $$ back. Stay on them and make sure you are getting what you pay for... before you pay for it. I contracted them to pack and move a 2BR. - guys showed up late so we lost an hour. - didn't kno it was supposed to be a pack job and didn't bring enough packing materials (boxes, stuffing, ...), but they could improvise. - said the size of the job was actually bigger than they expected, and they would have needed 4 guys instead of 3 to finish in time. So, they took my stuff unpacked to their facility to box it there, where there were more boxes. Then left it in the van overnight and dropped it off the next morning. End result was obviously - shit wasn't packed properly because its owner wasn't there to give input. The destination warehouse sends a vid of my curved OLED work monitor lying on a pallet wrapped in brown paper and cellophane. Our kid's cushion is just lying unpackaged on another pallet (throwing that away for sure...). ^ They charged me $2,100 extra for this. Not only were we unaware of the limitations regarding exit after closing, but we also ended up locked inside the premises after completing the move at 9:30 PM and had to resort to calling 911 for assistance. This was an incredibly distressing and avoidable situation. To add insult to injury, I was shocked to receive an updated invoice of $1,248.84--significantly higher than the originally quoted rate of $859 which already included a $100 deposit. the substantial delay, disruption, caused unnecessary emotional distress towards our family, we requested a refund of the difference in price mainly as a curtesy, and it was denied by David, the office manager. All of the guys that did our move were very hard working and dedicated to providing a satisfied customer. They arrived on time and started wrapping immediately. They remained professional and friendly throughout the day. Our team included Edwin, Abdulah, Serif, and Baran. They let nothing stand in the way of getting the job done. I would say the only thing that concerned me was the amount of time our move took. While it was a fixed price, the estimated time from all the other quotes I had was around 6 - 7.5 hours. Recently used this company to move from 4 bedroom colonial in Manalapan nj to a 55+ development in Tom's river nj. All were to be kept overnight on the 2 trucks(which we paid extra for). MANY high ticket items were gone! Missing was full size kitchen aid stand mixers all, 2 pieces of furniture( one an antique) a set of 7 candlesticks I inherited from my grandmother. Mah jong set from 1950 and many other board games as well as all of our bed linens and guest towels. These are large heavy items that are gone. Everything was great until we got to the storage unit. We gave them instructions on what items to leave towards the front so that we would have access to them while it was in storage. They put it in the back. They also built the box wall like UPS does and then basically threw our items in the back. The boxes were mushed and we ended up having to reorganize it ourselves. Which sucks because our total was around $900 for a 1 bdrm with storage less than 6 blocks away. I wouldnt mind paying the price if they followed instructions. read more

Van Express provided moving services to me on October 6, 2023. The movers damaged the floors of the home by dragging furniture across rather than lifting. The house is under contract and I had to pay over $1,200 to repair the floors to allow the sale to go through. Van Express declined to provide any payment for the damage, despite the fact that I purchased insurance. Further, the movers put the boxes in the wrong rooms and left over 50 boxes in the garage, including a rug that my daughter and I had to move into the house. I am age 81 and my daughter is disabled. 5 of the 6 movers spoke no English and, therefore, could not read the markings on the boxes, resulting in the boxes being left in the wrong rooms. The final bill was $1,000 over the estimate! It was a terrible experience. P.S. While Van Express has replied that it has 120 days to resolve a claim, I received an E mail TODAY that denied a claim for any floor damage and stated that I would not be reimbursed for damage, I want the facts to be correct here. Still paid them so the guys could leave, and even tipped them, thinking I was still going to reimbursed for the damages. Insurance refused to cover anything as the movers ended up denying any damage. Several calls and emails to the manager and scam insurance went unresolved. They will wait you out until you just give up. I booked my move over 2 weeks ago and spoke with the Office Manager several times. My appointment was confirmed for 9:00 this morning as recently as yesterday. At 10:20 this morning, I finally received a phone call from one of their movers that they were running late. The mover then proceeded to tell me that he and his crew were at my first stop. (Low and behold, they were not.) They were very excited to take my credit card information, but not as excited to communicate on the day of delivery. I was nervous to book van express at first given some of the lower star reviews, however I was definitely impressed with their work. The van express team did a great job helping me move some stuff from my family home in New Jersey to Manhattan. A group of three guys showed up and worked very quickly and efficiently. They were also extremely careful with wrapping everything to avoid damage. David was also very communicative and informative. The only issue we ran into is they asked us twice to move both the date and time of the move and the second ask was the day before after we already confirmed he elevator reservations at the new building. This was probably a one time thing given the snow storm we had the day before. Despite that, the team still arrived about an hour earlier than promised. Be sure to disclose any larger items before hand as it may result in additional charges. read more

That is unless you want to be lied to , have them come 4 hours and 45 minutes late , not answer your calls etc etc The David fella tried to tell me that they took the trucks in for inspection the day of my appointment so that they'd be running late . Then he calls and tells me on the way back from inspection the door came off on 80 . Clearly the truck didn't go for inspection that morning because a loose door wouldn't have passed inspection . Sketchy sketchy sketchy ... then to top it all off the movers couldn't get my sofa in the apartment so they had to take it with them . So I got beat out of a 1K sofa . Other movers cost more because other movers are professional !!! Go elsewhere!!! You'll thank me later !!! In response to their posts . I went to school to get my CDL . When done and done right they would've known about a loose door prior to it falling off on 80 because all drivers should do a pre trip inspection daily . They double booked and lied to me but it's cool ... and I wasn't ok with my furniture not fitting . The thing spent 2 1:2 years in storage and was 3 years old . It was one of the reasons I held onto my storage unit for so long . The mover told me he'd try and sell it and send me the money because I was balling my eyes out . I wasn't ok with it but I had no options ... what am I gonna do ? leave a freakin sofa in the hallway . Very poor business and yet you continue to lie to your customers. I recommend Van Express. I had 5 different companies come out and give us an estimate. Lazar, the owner of Van Express was the quickest to contact me and come out to see my house. I was a little worried because the estimate from Van was the lowest. I decided to go with them and their office manager (Dave) is friendly, professional and good at staying in touch. I don't regret it at all. The movers showed up right on time and were friendly, hard-working and definitely earned their paychecks. I even tipped them each extra (please do this if they deserve it) and bought them all lunch (no pork). My criticism would be that Lazar shouldn't give out his number and say to call him with any questions or issues if he isn't ever going to answer calls or text messages, that had me nervous up until the truck pulled up in front of my house on the day of the move. Most importantly, they didn't have hidden costs or charge more than the estimate... and they were all around very very good. read more

The two stars are here because the movers who did come were respectful, efficient, and did a good job ensuring our belongings got to our new home.   On the other hand, we were incredibly disappointed and frankly, angry, with the management, lack of communication, and lack of respect that come out of the management office.   For our move, the COI took multiple emails until it was finally received.  Then, on the day of the move, it was clear we were double-booked.  They were unresponsive, unwilling to pick up a phone or call us back after trying to reach out multiple times to find out the status of our move.   It was also impossible to reach anyone else at the main office.  We felt ignored and unvalued as customers and were uncertain our move would even be completed that day.   In the end, a new crew did show up (and they were very competent) and had us moved into our apartment by around 7, when the original time would have got us here around 2.  But the lack of communication showed a clear lack of respect for us as customers.   We hope the management takes this to heart and improves communication, especially when moving is so dependent on clear timing and the necessity around putting your trust in a moving company.  Unfortunately, that trust was broken with us. read more
