i contacted NYC Small Moves to move 5 items. Two benches (8ft and 4ft), a sofa (7ft), a table top (4x3ft) . I sent very clear photos and measurements of each item and was given a quote. The movers arrive with too small of a van and tell me they will have to make multiple trips and the price would be doubled. I told them this is essentially a scam or hustle and why would they bring a van that won't fit the items when I sent clear and concise photos and measurements. The one mover said he didn't get any of these messages, that his boss was the one who got them. So I suggested we call his boss who I sent the messages with photos and measurements and clear things up . This same mover that said he doesn't work for anybody and doesn't have a boss, which led me to ask well then if you don't have a boss, then you must have have been the one who I sent the photos with measurements the items so let's try to call the person who I sent the photos and dimensions to, at which point he told me that the person won't answer the phone and then he turned the ringer off on his phone. I would avoid these con artists and go with a real moving company since they are inept and will waste your time and or try to rip you off. They also showed up at 5 pm on a Saturday after I waited all day for them to arrive. I could have been contacting other moving companies all day and now it's after 5pm on a Saturday and I'm supposed to be out of my apartment by midnight tomorrow (Sunday). Very competitive rate, and great service. I booked about 5 days in advance and had to make a last minute change in time, which they accommodated to in short notice. They came earlier but didn't mind waiting till the scheduled time, which was nice because we ended up moving a lot quicker. Mehmet and Han were super helpful and careful with the furniture, and everything was moved from one place to another quick and in good condition. They take cash, check(lol) and Venmo, which makes it easy for a lot of us. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Dealt with a guy named Hilmi and scheduled a move for a Monday. During the initial email exchange I gave him a specific time frame and it was agreed that the movers would be at the location and time specified. After having everything in order and in agreement, I received a followup email from Hilmi at almost 4:30 pm on Saturday cancelling my move because he claimed to already have someone else scheduled at my time. So, end of day SATURDAY, expecting to move furniture on MONDAY with no movers and practically no time to find a new mover, especially considering its the weekend. He made my small move easy & without stress. We communicated by text. He confirmed all the information and honored the exact time I requested. The pick up was in an office building & delivery at an apartment building. So it was a bit complex due to their rules. My complex required a certificate of insurance (CIO) which was an extra cost. I got a heads up when they were nearby. They worked with management in both buildings. I tried several of the same movers in Yelp. The others either no longer do small moves or wouldn't work with me to figure out the CIO issue. I would highly recommend this company. read more

Horrible, unreliable. Moving is a job you need to have a reliable guy for. I was trying to find someone last minute (day notice) to retrieve a couch and deliver it to me because they were moving that day. First of all he overcharges . Almost 250 just to deliver one thing which I was fine with but the day of he texts me saying he can't contact his guys they are sleeping (mind You we had an 11 am appointment) and he's texting me at 1045 saying he can't get his guy . Then an hour later he says he can get a helper at 5 but was unapologetic.. but at this point I already found someone else, thank god . You can't get careless insufficient guys for these types of jobs and that's what I found him to be. Book at your own risk. read more

What. A. Nightmare. Had my stuff packed and ready to go. It was a small bedroom move. At first, Hilmi was great and very responsive via email. I confirmed with him multiple times that everything was set. 0930 - Mehmet (or another guy) calls and says his other guy is sick but he's driving over now and will be an hour late. Totally cool, these things happen, I get it. 1040 - Mehmet and another guy call. They can't come but also can't explain why very clearly. I'm an immigrant myself so I am understanding of communication issues, but honestly I didn't understand. Then he says he can't come at all today. Then maaayyybee 4-5pm. Then says next week. I was incredibly confused and irritated. I had to move that day. I had taken off work and lost money. I contacted Hilmi. He says 'this guy is an a*shole. Sorry' 1100-1200 Hilmi offers to find someone else. I say ok. The driver is texting me nonsense. Hilmi sends me phone numbers to call but he was out of the country so couldn't speak. He also said bad reviews mean nothing to him, so I cancelled and am writing this in any case. Though he wanted to help and said his friend would call, no one ever did. He did not give me his friend's name or number either. I don't know how I was supposed to just trust this friend who did not call to get my details. In any case, this appears to be a fluke according to other great reviews (which is why I booked them) but prepare for an email lash out from them should you not be satisfied. read more

The movers (Frankie and Givan (sp?)) were on time and took under an hour to complete the job. I hired them to help load my furniture and boxes into a U-haul and it cost less than $400, including tip. Another, highly-reviewed, company wanted to charge $700 minimum for the same job. The guys were friendly and packed everything securely into the truck. I would definitely use them again. read more

YES. Tuna and his brother Turan were responsive/professional. Gave me a rate by phone, which I confirmed with a text exchange two days prior. Price was quite reasonable--note: if your move requires a COI (mine did not), they don't have that. Day of pick up, they asked address again; slight misunderstanding on drop off point (I had given Tuna the address/zip by phone). It was $20 more, but I still thought it was a good price. Both Turan and I agreed it's silly to quibble for $20 (hint: put all in text). The mover arrived promptly, early even. Nice guy Matt/Mehmet. The other guy was on time; arrived separately. They wrapped the sofa with plastic, not the cushions, but that was fine. I left them to get to my house and returned to work in midtown. They checked in with me when they dropped the piece. I hired NYC SMALL MOVES to transport a China cabinet from Long Island to NYC. Communication was excellent. I received an immediate response for a price, which was at least $100 less than other estimates. After emailing with Hilmi/Tuna, I learned he has just a cargo van and no insurance. NYC Small Moves is not a 'professional' moving company. But, it was fine for my needs and after confirming with Hilmi that he had the appropriate gear ( dolly, hand truck, ramp) to move my large piece of furniture, I booked 2 men for the move. He showed up at the pick up address on time but by himself. I don't know how he managed to put it in his van, but I knew it had to be easier in the suburbs than delivery in NYC. He arrived at my apartment on time but with only 1 small dolly. The wood part of the furniture was wrapped in blankets and shrink wrap, but the wrought iron was exposed. Thankfully, my boyfriend was able to come help move the piece of furniture with him or else I don't know how it would have gotten done with only one mover instead of the two that I booked. For communication, price and punctuality I'd rate 5 stars. For actual moving services...you get what you pay for. read more

I called NY Small Moves to move a sofa I got off Craigslist from Williamsburg to Jersey City. It was Memorial Day weekend and I needed a man with a van asap. I called in the morning and Tuna set up an appointment by text/phone call and were able to schedule the move/delivery THAT afternoon! The price was very fair and the two movers were very prompt and nice and texted me when they got to Williamsburg and also when they were going to leave to come to Jersey City.
