Every time I walk by this place on my way to some gate, it is packed full of people. Granted this tired old terminal at IAD needs more places to sit and eat, it's no wonder it feels like it's going to bust at the seams. Ate lunch today at Firkin & Fox while waiting for my connecting flight to Asheville, NC. This "English" pub really has zero British characteristics other than the wallpaper which has a British theme. Neither the menu nor the beers were anything even resembling anything British. Ok - they did have fish and chips - but that was really about it. I ended up having the Turkey Club with Avocado if that tells you anything. I poured some malt vinegar on my fries to try and have some sort of Anglican Experience. With the above said - I totally enjoyed this place. The waitstaff was extremely friendly and completely cognizant of the fact that service needed to be quick. They inquired whether I wanted a second beer exactly at the right point in time. I appreciated that. And my Turkey Club sandwich was delicious (although i guess it would be tough to mess that particular sandwich up) So if I'm ever passing through Dulles Airport ever again, I wouldn't hesitate to stop at Firkin & Fox for a quick meal before I jump on the plane and fly away! read more

After a United Flight Attendant made me cry, I found Firkin in terminal A, it was spit polish clean and the manager welcomed me in. Tables were spaced for social distancing. I enjoyed a Stella then ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. I expected a big fried thing, but it was a delicious juicy grilled chicken instead! Hi quality, with tons of fries. I wish I had more time to sit and enjoy my food. I had to try one more place before my food adventure ended and this place was in the terminal near my gate. The staff was very cognizant of my time and they made it a point to get me everything I asked for quickly. They were also very friendly and pleasant. They were fast, but they didn't rush. I appreciate that. I didn't check into Yelp until after I had received my food. That's when I learned of the 10% coupon. They even adjusted my check after the fact for me. The food was delicious, though I wish I had not gotten the nachos to go. I didn't start eating until after we were allowed to drop our tray table during the flight (probably 45 minutes later). My flight was returned to the gate, after 6:00 pm. All of the terminal restaurants were closed, included Firkin & Fox. However, the manager DJ recognized that there were about 20 people who were hungry and thirsty, and he stayed open long enough to allow us to get a drink, or two, and something to eat. This gentleman didn't need to keep the restaurant open, but he did, WITH A SMILE! He's a great example of people who come to America for the opportunity to work for a better quality of life. He is from Nepal, but proudly said he's an American. I'm happy to have him as an American, particularly since we share the same name...DJ BTW, the beer selections were good, cold, and served with a smile. My food was good "airport pub food", that was more enjoyable because of the kindness of DJ. read more

Washington-Dulles unfortunately has the worst bar scene of any major city airport I've been to. I travel a lot and I can't think of one that I would consider to be second worst... for perspective, It's easier to have a good time at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's airport. Anyways, I ended up here. I can accept the fact that their Moscow mule was not served in a copper mug, which is painful to say because it was $13.99. The one star rating is because it was shaken like a martini before it was served to me. With only 45 minutes before boarding started, we were met outside Firkin and Fox by one of their employees who promised us that we'd be served in 10 minutes or under. True to his word, our chicken tenders and fries were delivered to our table in short order. The BBQ sauce that came with the chicken was there for dunking. Good thing because the chicken was a bit dry. Not bad. Definitely edible. The fries were ok too I noticed that there are plenty of places to charge your phone under the long bar. The menu is good, shepards pie, fish and chips, the usual. I opted for the gluten-free option (they had two on the menu), nachos. They were a good sized plate, nice big chips. This was SO UNDERWHELMING! Self proclaimed best restaurant of 2018, I expected a lot more. First the prices: the only thing less than $13 was a bowl of soup...which tasted like a can of Progresso. But my 5 Star rating is for the Shepherds pie and the fact they have USB ports to charge cellphones. First time landing in Dulles, I had about an hour to kill on a layover and I had not eaten all day. I hit Terminal at prime dining time, long lines at the few eateries there. I was famished and willing just to take something to go, even though I wanted to sit down, have a hot meal, and a beer (or 2). I got in Line at The Pirken & Fox "English Pub". While it did not really remind me of a proper London pub, I can't say enough about how great the experience was. Two gentlemen, can't say if they were Managers or owners, walk up and down the line with menus and taking orders promising "to go" orders would be ready in 5 minutes. I decided to sit, they still took my food and drink order, I was sat probably 3 minutes after that with my beer in-hand and my food arriving shortly thereafter. And despite the promptness with which the food was served (guacamole cheeseburger with fries) it was clear made with fresh ingredients, came to me, and was very tasty. While seated, my server Katia was on it. Between her and the other two gentlemen, I got everything I needed and fast. I am not one to rush through a meal, I like enjoying my food and taking my time. But in this situation, with an impending flight, I did very much appreciate getting my meal and 2 beers and closing my check less than 20 minutes after I got in line. Cut of fish was poor (had a rough dark vein running through it) and batter was very heavy. My boyfriend and I had a layover at this airport and came to Firkin & Fox. There was a line and the hostess was amazing making sure we were takin care of before we got to the front. Offered to get us drinks while waiting for a table and handing us a menu if we wanted to see what food options they had. We then went to the bar and in the waiting area someone approached us right away asking for our order. After receiving our drinks our table was ready. All the staff in this restaurant were very friendly, accommodating, and respond quickly. This is the best experience I have ever had in a restaurant. Also, we shared the chicken tenders which were really good. I highly recommend this place. Our flight was delayed so we chose this for a bite to eat as it was close to the gate. It was breakfast so the menu had croissant sandwiches (3 options: bacon, sausage or both all the same price) with potatoes. Our selections came out within five minutes of ordering. Potatoes were cold and croissant was hard in one side and squished on the other. Know that these sandwiches are pre made (we did not know this when we went in) and likely microwaved upon ordering (with the potatoes). Needless to say, it served the purpose but not likely we'd do it again. If you're in a hurry and need something fast...this will be fine. I am writing this review just as a quick reference point for someone who has sometime to kill at the airport and would like a quick snack and drink while at this tiny airport. The wings were just fine but I would skip the bourbon chipotle sauce - no heat. I would choose the bbq or classic. The sliders were delicious but a bit undercooked for my fiancé. The server never asked how we wanted them cooked. They were medium which is fine by me. I suggest you specify how you would like them cooked. This airport lounge and pub is a surprisingly nice gem for travelers. We stopped in for breakfast and had a croissant sandwich with sausage, bacon, eggs and cheese. The service was great! The food quality exceeded expectations. The croissant and eggs were fluffy, the meats were cooked properly and not over cooked, and the accompanying fries were also freshly made.
