Stopped in here after some wine tastings. Whenever I see Pizza, burgers, and Mexican fare in one place, I always a bit weary but this place satisfied the various cravings of the group. We had a vegan in the group, who was able to order a veggie pizza, no cheese. The crust was cooked perfectly, had a great balance of crunch and soft. I went with the Taco Meal( 2 fish tacos, rice and beans) and a Beef Taco. The fish tacos were a recommendation from the staff, and the fried fish was super tasty! Flaky, good fish to breading ratio. The beef on the other hand was dry and not very flavorful. I wish the corn tortillas dried out my mouth, I wish they were on the grill for a bit longer, get a nice toast on them because it dilutes overall flavor. We came around 8pm on a Saturday night (not busy). Mid-April. We're from out of town but we selected this place because we saw they had some vegan options and had some IPA selections. WARNING--their beans come with cheese (or at least for my taco meal) so ask for no cheese on beans if you're vegan/lactose intolerant. We stopped in on the 4th of July for a late lunch as the Murphys Hotel where we planned to eat were closed between lunch & dinner. There weren't a lot of places open in Murphys at that time. We had the Swiss, bacon, mushroom burger, which was pretty good, but could have used more mushrooms. The bacon, however, was thick & abundant. The onion rings were awesome and the fries were good as well. It didn't seem especially clean, as there were straw wrappers, etc., on the floor, but...they were very busy. Waited almost 30 minutes for just two tacos to-go and had to ask multiple times about our order. The first time we asked a server, they completely ignored us and walked away. The cashier wasn't wearing a mask, sneezed and wiped his face with a dish towel, then bagged our food without washing his hands. When we finally sat down to eat, we opened the to-go box to find two tortillas with meat thrown on. Not sure how this took 30 minutes to make. The worst part was the immediate smell of rancid meat. After ordering here and finding a table, we were shocked to hear a customer next to us yelling obscenities at staff. We found out later on that this reaction was over there being no Kalamata olives on their pizza. While this is an unfortunate circumstance, it did not justify the treatment we felt the staff received. Been going here for years and forget to update a review. Firewood is absolutely consistent, and good. Plain menu, walk up service, and reasonable (for Murphys) prices. Amazing Tacos! Pizza was really good too. Service was OK. I wish they had an elders area downstairs (reserved seating): seniors only. I saw an elderly couple struggle to go upstairs while kids were running up and down and they needed to hold onto the railing. I just wish they had two tables reserved for Veterans, elderly and/or disabled. I know it's an older building. The bathrooms were nice and clean. Cheese pizza-tasteless dough, minimal sauce and greasy 2.Hamburger with pepper Jack-no pepper Jack, shredded lettuce, no flavor-pretty sure it was a frozen patty 3.Steak taco-disgusting. I don't even know where to start with Firewood. I had high hopes, and tried them a few times. We had crappy, greasy pizzas and the salad was just lettuce with a few old tomatoes slices. Nothing else. When we asked about the salad dressing, they said, "you didn't order any." Huh??? And the service was comical. I ordered a swiss, bacon, mushroom burger medium rare with pepperjack cheese substitution and my partner ordered two fish tacos and a shrimp taco. Everything was delicious! The fries came out hot with oil still sizzling from the fryer. Due to COVID-19, you have to ask the staff for condiments and utensils that would normally be on a self serve station.
