This is my quick, go to, restaurant in Murphys. I call and order ahead, especially if there is an event going on downtown. I feel it is reasonably priced. I know I personally wouldn't keep going to a restaurant for 15-20 years if I didn't like it and Firewood I do keep going back because it's great. My favorites are the fish tacos and the arugula/ prosciutto pizza. I've tried everything over the years and those are consistently delicious . The super nachos with carnitas are delicious too and great for sharing. My husband likes the burger and has been eating there since it's opening. It's not fancy but it's a good place to grab a bite then continue on your Murphys adventure. read more

We toured all around Murphy's in the area and thought we would stop at firewood for a woodfired pizza. We ordered a margarita pizza, and take a seat near the opening in the sun. We were expecting an excellent woodfired pizza, but what we got was a pathetic, tomato sauce, and cheese pizza with some oregano sprinkled on it. I took it back to the counter and asked where the mozzarella cheese basil and tomatoes were. She said the green stuff is basil. She tried to insist that the minor sprinkling of green was basil, but it was really oregano. I picked a piece up smelled it definitely oregano. She turned around and walked away. That's pathetic. The pizza has so little sauce and cheese that you could literally see through it when I held up a slice This is one place I won't be eating at again! Update: after reading the response from the owner, he clearly does not know how a pizza margarita is made. We've been here probably 5-6x. We're from out of town, but this is our "Go-to spot" in Murphys. Family friendly and reasonable prices, among the plaes in the area. There's a lot of options. Pizza, burgers, burritos and tacos, as well as *more* kid firendly options such as chicken strips and fish & chips. My husband and I usually get burritos. They're very tasty. My kids got the fish and chips, chicken strips or pizza. Even when the line is long, they move through is pretty quickly. The location is nice too. Just on the main street. If there's not parking on that street. There's usually always parking across from the park near the perfroming arts theater. It's a short walk to the restaurant. read more

We went here because the sushi spot down the road was randomly closed and yelp said it had vegan options. The vegan options are a pizza with no cheese or an impossible burger. Impossible burgers are gmo and therefore not vegan. We opted for the pizza. It has zero salt or seasoning. Tasted like wet paper. This happens often when places have no actual vegan option and just remove the meat or dairy from a dish. They don't bother to season or salt anything because they think the meat and cheese will hide the bland taste of the other ingredients. Also the lady who took our order was also the one who made our pizza which is never a good sign. She answered the phone while making the pizza and then went right back to making it. Seemed overworked and like she needed some help but was nice. The fries we got were actually super good but they also had no salt. 2 stars for the fries. The building the restaurant is in is super nice and misleading because you think the food will be better. The people working were nice. Major tip, blend some cashews with water and salt (lol) to make cashew cream and pour it on the pizza to replace dairy cheese. It tastes delicious and cooks up amazing. It's 2025 lots of people who aren't vegan don't eat dairy. read more

Next time we cruise here I'll add pictures. We stumbled on this place by accident. Having stopped in Murphy's we were looking at the menu posted outside and a lady passed us and said "best fish tacos". So we decided to try it. We weren't prepared to commit to the tacos and ordered two and a mushroom swiss burger(which came with fries) to split. The burger was very good... but the tacos were indeed amazing! We kinda wished we had ordered more tacos instead. Our second visit we replicated our order and it was just as good. We left thinking next time we'll pass on the burger and load up on tacos or try the fish and chips since we assume it's the same fish and we know the "chips" are good since they came with the burgers. We haven't ventured upstairs to check out the seating up there because we are enamored with fitting on the first floor near the big toll up door. It allows us to people watch, car and motorcycle watch, and relax. read more

Cool little joint. Pizza, burgers (with lots of fries), burritos, tacos, chicken and canned, bottled and draft beer. We tried the chicken pesto pizza, hamburger and fish tacos. The pizza was really good! They offer one size, which is a twelve inch with eight pieces. We were nervous about the fish tacos, but they were great! Loaded with fish, lettuce and cilantro! Salsa from The salsa bar was good too. Especially the green salsa and the chipotle one. The burgers come with lots of toppings, too, including thousand island dressing. It was pretty good, but just a burger. I would like to come back and try the burritos. If I do, I'll also order the pizza and tacos again for sure! read more

I was in Murphys for a girls' wine weekend and we started off with lunch at Firewood. Food is a must before you embark on a boozy adventure! I was trying to eat healthy so I got the salad and asked them to add shrimp (not listed as an option on the menu but I am bold like that). Unfortunately, I didn't realize the shrimp would be deep-fried. So much for my meager attempt at health! My salad was super plain and I definitely had burger envy. Get the burger. Trust me. Do the fish tacos still contain fish? I know mine didn't that I ordered New Years Eve. Just battered crumbles with a heap of cabbage and mayo sauce. I ordered two, neither had any fish at all, just battered bites of fried grease and flour. The third taco I ordered was carnitas and honestly tasted like dog food, which I presume is low grade meat. The pizza was just eh, nothing special. I think you could get better at round table. The entire evening after eating this food I could feel it going through my bowels and it hurt so bad, very painful, im not sure it was food poisoning, but it sure felt aweful. Didn't realize I was paying $55 to be sick and in pain for two days. Very disappointed, don't embarrass yourself bringing friends here like I did. Food was good, but to charge for ranch and the upscale pricing from their website was ridiculous. I understand they are one of the only pizza places in town, but it's not that great! Here, you order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Prices were average for a tourist town. There's a small salsa bar so you can load up with your favorite. Street parking can be iffy. To be fair, I do like the food here and it's fairly priced but over the years the restaurant has gotten more and more dirty and it's never really cleaned. It has a pretty foul smell at most of the tables and chairs and I feel pretty grossed out eating here. I've noticed unsafe food handling practices in the pizza area with handling brooms and cleaning and then taking the same barehands without washing them and putting them in buckets of mushrooms or cheese. I wish they would take a day and really clean the place including the glass garage door and all the tables, booths and chairs and floor. I've also spoken to some other folks that regularly go to firewood as well and everyone agrees the place is pretty dirty in general. read more

This was my first time here and I have to say I was very pleased with my visit. The menu was not as big as I had hoped, but there was still a good enough variety to order from. I ordered the margarita pizza. As a margarita pizza lover, I always prefer to have FRESH basil, FRESH tomatoes and mozzarella cheese on the pizza rather than basil seasoning and no tomatoes. The pizza here did not look please; however, it waS so good!! I was extremely shocked at the taste. I was eating it with their ranch and the combination was absolutely delicious! We were walking around Murphy's on a Monday and not a lot of restaurants were open. Luckily for us Firewood was. It's a strange mix of a menu. Pizza and tacos. We noticed a wood burning pizza oven and the decision was obvious. PIZZA. We chose two 12" (only size available), bbq chicken and prosciutto with arugula. After coming here regularly for 10+ years (maybe more) it's time to give this place a review. Driving back down Hwy 4 from Bear Valley, we decided to stop for lunch, not knowing there was a huge Day of the Dead festival happening. The town was packed, but by some miracle we snagged a parking spot on Main St and the line at Firewood was not long at all. Firewood is an "order first" place, and their staff are a well-oiled machine. The trick is getting a table, but we lucked out here, too. Although their prices have gone up recently, they have not reduced the quantity or quality of the food. If anything, I think the wood-fired pizzas might be a little bigger and better. The crust is PERFECTION - just the right amount of chewiness in the dough. I've tried most everything else on the menu, too. Burgers are amazing, and their Mexican food is delicious. Great selection of draft beers. If you come when it's busy, don't expect to have a quiet conversation as the place can get very noisy. Not bad enough for me to take a way a star, though! We walked straight to the counter to order and then seat yourself. Unfortunately there were no tables inside or outside so we had to wait. As soon as a table became available we had to go get someone to clean the table. She cleaned off the table but didnt clean the bench which was very dirty. I didnt have to wait too long before we received my salad. She gave me ranch instead of vinaigrette. When i asked for vinaigrette and instead they gave me malt vinegar and unfortunately i had already poured it all over my salad before I noticed. The pizza's were okay. Not delicious just okay. A little soggy. The pepperoni pizza didnt look like pepperoni. Its finely chopped pepperoni. Not that great. The arugula pizza was better. Id give this place a 3 out of 10. We wont be coming back. Stopped in here after some wine tastings. Whenever I see Pizza, burgers, and Mexican fare in one place, I always a bit weary but this place satisfied the various cravings of the group. We had a vegan in the group, who was able to order a veggie pizza, no cheese. The crust was cooked perfectly, had a great balance of crunch and soft. I went with the Taco Meal( 2 fish tacos, rice and beans) and a Beef Taco. The fish tacos were a recommendation from the staff, and the fried fish was super tasty! Flaky, good fish to breading ratio. The beef on the other hand was dry and not very flavorful. I wish the corn tortillas dried out my mouth, I wish they were on the grill for a bit longer, get a nice toast on them because it dilutes overall flavor.
