Incompetence is the only word I can use. My husband and I ordered two Hook and Ladder sandwiches. There was no one in the shop and it took 10 minutes for them to make those sandwiches. When we got to where we were going, we found that neither sandwich had cheese, mine had mustard (specifically requested NO mustard), and mine also had vinegar, which I certainly did NOT request or like. Husband requested no mustard (it had mustard) and he requested vinegar (no vinegar was on sandwich). How hard is it to make a sandwich? Apparently, it takes a l-o-n-g time to make it NOT how the customer specifically asked for. So incredibly disappointed. Probably will NOT go back. Don't go here is you want your sub a special way, because they can't follow directions. read more

Visited this Firehouse on the first day it opened. Hoped to be first in line but there were a couple of guys who got there before me, and four more were in line behind me when the shop opened. Despite being their first day, the staff's performance was spot on, and the sub was delicious. I've had just about every hot sub on their menu (at other locations) and haven't been disappointed yet. Was disappointed that there were no Firehouse's in Salem when I moved here 7 months ago, but was happy when I discovered on their website that one would be opening soon, so I decided to go on opening day. Not pleased with my first experience. I ordered a pretty simple sub right off the menu to go. I waited less than 3 mins and a nice man brings me my sub. Wow, that was quick! I get home only to find out, he gave me the wrong sub. Ugh, great, I go back. I still have the receipt so I explain I got the wrong sub completely and show them what I paid for. He apologized and said he would make me a new sub right away, great! He makes a few subs for others waiting and then brings my replacement sub to me. I ask, before leaving, is it the correct sub? He assured me it is. Guess what? I get home and again, the wrong sub?! Are you kidding me?! Once is forgivable but twice in less than 25 mins?! Not coming back and will tell everyone I know of my experience. Get your act together. read more

Meatball sandwich. All I ever get. They do it very well. I had a firehouse meatball sub in Alabama on a trip a few years ago, loved it. This place isn't bad. It is however much better than subway.. I got the TURKEY BACON RANCH™ which has Smoked turkey breast, pepper bacon, sharp cheddar cheese topped with peppercorn ranch, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion. We have life threatening food allergies, and autoimmune issues in our family. Due to Covid-19, we are ordering through Grub-hub for delivery. We are very clear when we order about the food restrictions (eg, no cheese). The restaurant highlights it on the receipt, so we know they are fully aware. Yet, the last 4 times we have ordered, they mess up the order and include the items that are allergens (and they leave other things off that we paid for). Whenever we call to follow up, the staff laugh at us, and the manager says, "Too bad, that is what you get for ordering 3rd party!" As if!! Then the manager says she will send 10% off coupons but it is a lie - they never send them. The worst part of it? The two sandwiches they mess up every time are the ones for our special needs sons... who feel like they are being bullied/picked on. We try to explain to them that it isn't personal, but they do not understand - and then cry and cry. We are appalled at the lack of attention to life threatening food allergies, lack of responsibility their management takes, their blaming Grub-Hub (who are simply delivering orders), and for breaking my sons' hearts when the food arrives but we have to throw it in the garbage. Grub-Hub has been fantastic-refunding us the portions we have to throw out... but that doesn't feed my boys or repair their little broken hearts. ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL!!!!! read more

I accidentally found this place and i am glad i did. Soon as i walked in everyone greeted me. Than after being blown away by the menu the server took the time to ask what i was in the mood for and explained a couple of items to me and helped me make a decision and pointed out the hot sauce bar. The subs arived and they were the size of small animals. I had the beefy cheesy barbequey thing and my ol lady had bacon chicken ranch and yeah it was good real good i would probably do inappropriate things to get my hands on another one of those. Tried the Firehouse Hero.... pretty good. I'd suggest eating-in or soon after purchasing. They tend to get soggy if they sit longer than 20-30 min. The flavor on this one reminded me of Subway in the late-80's. Enjoyed the pickle on the side. The staff was friendly and attentive, even holding open the door as I came and went. It was very quiet, only a couple of customers there on a Saturday afternoon. I'll have to try a few other sandwich varieties to get a real sense if this place will be a regular stop. Pricing is a little higher than Subway, but you get more. Best compared with Jimmy John's or Jersey Mike's in cost and portion size. read more

We went here today. My hubby got the bbq brisket, and I the cheese steak. They were both very tasty. Prices were a bit steep, however the service was amazing. We left feeling truly appreciated for being customers today. Not sure if he was the manager or not, but he stopped by our table and thanked us for coming in. I don't mind paying a bit more when the service is on point. We will be back to try other flavors. read more

Really good! I got the Engineer sub which had great flavor with the turkey, swiss and mustard and mushrooms together. A loaded sandwich; stuff was falling out by the end but in a good way; not too frustrating. The staff was very friendly; we were welcomed as we walked in, and since we had never been there before, they briefly explained the menu to us. The sandwich was warm, but not too piping hot; and we did not have to wait long before they came out to us with our food. I also tried the cherry limeade; a little too sweet for me and the medium size drink is actually gigantic in my opinion so i'd go with the small next time. Review just on service alone I would give 2 stars,have not tasted sandwiches yet. Waited 15 minutes for sandwiches (to go order). Hope your not on a time limit. They have 8 people working tonight and looks like 6 of them just to do the sandwiches. Not sure if I'll eat there again any time soon. After eating sandwiches they are full of meat and filling on that end of things, defiantly messy. On speed and overall sandwich quality my preference would be the other sandwich shop by Winco. This place is SO good. BUT you have to eat it right away or your sandwich will become completely soggy.. not sure what they do to it for it to get soggy so fast.. but other than that, sandwiches are great, service is great, prices are ok.. little spendy for a sandwich. read more

My husband and I stopped here while we were in Salem and we loved it! The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. I am a vegetarian and didn't see a veggie sandwich on the menu but I asked and they have a very delicious one with sauteed mushrooms. You can also just make a sandwich with whatever you want on it. The bread was so soft and they toast it so the sandwich is warm but not crusty or burnt. Perfect! Highly recommend this place. read more

We were looking for an alternative to Jersey Mike's because we had been going there quite a bit. Firehouse is different. The biggest difference that matters to me is the bread. The buns here are not as dense at Jersey Mike's and they are smaller, resulting in lower carbs and calories. However, the bread is the most important aspect of a sandwich, to me so I prefer the beefier bread. Firehouse does a nice job of toasting the bread, too. The sandwiches are also offered in small, medium and large. I have a fairly small appetite and I finished a medium. The kitchen is slightly exposed, though at Jersey Mike's you are meant to be able to see every step of the sandwich making, and putting the add-ins on is a show. It's a little more hidden at Firehouse. They have sweet tea and unsweet tea which I combined and really liked. One thing that really bothered me was that a patron went over to the hot sauce station and started opening each bottle and sniffing them. One of the staff was chatting with him as he was doing this. I don't like the idea of someone's nose getting so close to the mouth of each bottle. I probably wouldn't come back if I had a choice just because of remembering the guy doing this. read more

I used to work at Quiznos and when I walked into firehouse subs for the first time it smelled and felt like a Quiznos! The subs we ordered were pretty good but for the price the portions are pretty small. I liked the food, but 8 dollars for a pretty small sandwich is rough. Service was good. I do like how they support emergency services! I just think the price is a little high, and the portions for the price is pretty small. read more

The Italian sandwich was delicious. The ham in it was incredible. However they were very flustered and behind in getting orders out. It took almost 20 minutes to order and get my sandwich. I saw an order returned because it was incorrect as well as some customers getting free sub coupons due to very long waits. I hope they can get more organized the longer they are open. read more
