I am trying to figure out the city as I am new here and I love asian markets! I need to have them around because I cook a lot of asian food at home. This one is small and has nem chua which I love so much but it also has a sushi chef!!! I was curious on how good can this sushi be in a small little asian store. So I ordered a salmon poki bowl and a eel roll. Listen I am picky with my sushi but I found his sushi to be fresh and taste so good being it such a simple bowl with cucumbers and poki seaweed salad and rice in it. The sauce tasted good, the fish was fresh. Dont judge a book by its cover always open it up a bit and take a chance you never know where you will find great sushi chef all the way in the back making amazing food. read more

Best sushi place in Salem with consistent quality. The store is amazing, I love finding all the harder to find items I need for my recipes and snacks. The people are always friendly and direct and willing to help. Their selection of shrimp chips is amazing! Local parking and good prices. read more

Please come closer to yamhill county. Your sushi chef in the back of a great ethic grocery store is greatness. Authenticity in his preparation, presentation, and service is unparalleled read more

I drive 40 minutes (round trip no traffic) to get sushi and sashimi here. Worth it every time. The sushi chef dude straight legit.

This second generation family owned market is a Salem treasure, and hidden at the back is another gem - Chef Hiroshi Kozawa, formerly of the late great Kyoto restaurant, makes sushi here. The market is well-stocked with a massive variety of hard to find ingredients, and thanks to its location close to a school it has a unique and plentiful candy isle. Its definitely worth a try if you are an adventurous chef or need anything other than what you find at Fred Meyer or Safeway. read more

Made huge mistake going here to get a standard Chinese cooking staple, salted dried black beans. The Asian lady told me it no longer came dry, just as a prepared sauce. This is a bald-faced lie. If i wanted cute Japanese gift dishes or Korean supplies I might go there if I couldn't drive to Portland. But I won't consider eating raw food prepared by an establishment that is dishonest. read more

I read the reviews on Yelp as well as was recommended this store as a great Asian market that sells all kinds of Asian foods, not specifically Vietnamese, from a Hawaiian transplant on NextDoor app. I'm glad we found it. They sell laulau, daikin, kimchi, Aloha shoyu, various rices, Asian soaps and hygiene products, Korean and Japanese sauces, Korean pancakes, curries, seasoning packets like char siu, ube ice cream, and even Oriental dishes and utensils. They even have Chinese New Year and ceremonial products. The store is small, but it beats having to drive to H-Mart in Tigard every month for the little things. It's basically an Asian convenient store. Husband made his way to the back of the store where the deli is and had to get a poke bowl. He said it tasted more Japanese than Hawaiian, due to the amount of sesame and shoyu, but he said it still tastes good. We will be back. read more

Love this store, beats going to Uwaji in Portland because they have most of what I want and the prices are good! Also, service is super and the sushi shop in the back is the best. I can't even eat other sushi around here anymore!! read more

Always friendly and awesome sushi to order i call in before i go. They have a lot products you can't find anywhere else.

I normally do my 'across-the-mountain' Asian market shopping at Portland or Eugene but Salem was on the itinerary so A-Dong it was. It's a small store with limited produce but I got what I was after. Helpful people there. read more

Excellent sushi...friendly sushi man....clean premises. The only thing that would make this experience better is a sit-down eating area. Thank you....we'll be back. read more

Love this market. Salem not a big city so finding speciality items to cook great Asian food is hard. I go here for green rice toasted teas, curry, sushi supplies and white rabbit candy! read more

I've been stalking this place for at least a good year or two on Facebook and Yelp and Google, drooling over the pics and reviews, but never seemed to be able to order anything (I get shy about talking on the phone lol and don't judge but I do enjoy eating A LOT so I tend to go for price/quantity options) .. anywho.. I got the sushi combo- 4 pieces of maki and 3 of nigiri for like 8-9$ and boy I do not regret it. I actually got full! (I also grabbed some of the seaweed salad from the deli/fridge area too)... Fish portions were very on par for price and the pieces of maki I got were at least 1.5 times as big as most maki from other places (Ive tried literally every place in Salem) A couple of people ordered counter side while I stocked up on all the market staples I can't find at regular spots, definitely a popular hidden gem. I think I didn't take pictures so I'd have a reason to go again ;) bahaha but yeah love this place and the hype is worth it! read more

Great customer service, very organized, nice large selection of frozen and fresh foods. The salmon poke bowl I had from there was so fresh and very tasteful. I will definitely be back to purchase goods from here and fresh food from the Sushi/poke place. The gentleman that checked us out was very friendly and sweet. So glad we found an amazing Asian market in Salem. read more

This Vietnamese owned and operated market has been one of Salem's cornerstones for Asian food for the last couple of decades. Its not large but its a place that small Asian community of Salem can depend on for various goods. They used to make Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwiches) but for some reason stopped doing it entirely. The folks that work here are super nice and I have never had a problem with service here. Prices are cheap and they tend to have a lot of items not traditionally found in mega grocery stores. read more

Delicious Poke! Got the tuna bowl and cucumber salad - both I'd definitely order again. While we waited on the food, I also picked up more chili and hot sauce they also had my daughters favorite Japanese green candies! Next time I'm in Salem, I'm coming back read more

I love this place... this guy makes the best sushi in the area. The portions are great, the presentation is beautiful (Pic 1), the food is fresh and delicious! Everyone in the store is always so nice, friendly and respectful. They always seem to have a smile and a hello here. I bought this bowl thinking I would eat half and save the rest for dinner as I love to eat, but usually eat small portions at a time. Not at all with this... 1 long sitting, and boom Pic 2. I ate every bit! My tummy has never been so happy! The sandwich is not the first time I have had there, but it is really good also, soft bread, and tasty. Be working on the sandwich tomorrow! The best sushi spot in the area!! read more

Came here to pick up some Korean bbq sauce and to see what all this place has. I was super shocked to find a very clean and nice shop. With lots of different types of Asian style foods for cooking. They even have lots of dishwear for setting up a table and some cooking supply's. I meet the owner he is super nice and very friendly. The store is seems nice and clean and well put together. You should be able to find what your looking for here. Being I live about 30 minutes away where there are no good Asian food stores this will be my new go to for supply's. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem! Sushi from Hiroshi was great and was topped with the freshest tuna I've had since moving to Salem. The quality of his sushi is comparable to a omakase restaurant in San Francisco, only much more affordable. read more

Love this store. The owners are wonderful. Very clean, Always has my favorite brand of fish sauce. The Banh Mi is very good.

Great sushi! Fresh and delicious. It's an excellent market and I found everything I needed. Great service too.

Oh, happiness! This market had everything I needed to make all three curry dishes I've been planning. I found yellow, green, and red curry paste and there were so many more varieties besides what I purchased. Curry heaven! I snatched up two packages of fresh Thai basil in the chill case. In the frozen section I spotted a package of Hawaiian pork lau lau and added it to my growing treasure trove. It's Lychee (also spelled Litchi but please don't make me crazy by mispronouncing it: Lai-chee, not Lee-Chee) season in Hawaii and I was missing this juicy sweet summer treat so I had to get at least one can for dessert. It's so good with fruit sorbet. I haven't been to the other Asian markets in Salem but I am definitely in love with this one. read more

Love everything about this store. I've been coming here since I was a little girl. Even now I still find new flavors to try! My all time favorite are their Vietnamese sandwiches. I just love this place. The owners are adorable and kind and make a really good banh mi 3$ and pickled daikon and carrots! There's no pate on the banh mi but I'm sure it's because most people don't like it. They have a great selection of all sorts of food and dishes and what not. Support your local businesses!!! read more

I shop at the DONG! I have a Tshirt from this place that says quotes this exact phrase. My friend got one too, but hes ashamed to wear it! HA HA HA! I used to shop here alot in college (Willamette grad '00). The prices are right, and the ingredients are just what I needed. There wasn't really any other place to go outside portland if we needed some emergency nam pla or takuwan for our chazuke or kalua pig! Another plus is being able to eat next door at Kim Huong... but that is another review... The Bale sandwiches (as we call them in Hawaii) or Bahn Mi are really good here. They're not quite up to the fresh bread of Bale in HI, but for OR they are really tasty and cheap! They have been selling me these sandwiches for over 10 years, and I just stopped by yesterday to grab one. The bread was nice and crusty, and the daikon carrot namasu was seasoned just right. Nice memories! read more

I've shopped at A Dong for 25 years. Ba, the owner, is helpful and funny. Just went in today for ingredients to make Kimchi, Ba showed me where everything was and had some comments on extras to add. I just like walking around in there, its like a good movie. The Banh Mi sandwiches are now sealed in a bag (not as crispy) but, really an incredible taste and value. Wide selection of teas and checkout the medicines and ginseng behind the counter. Oh yeah, love the dinerware, spoons and bowls he sells. I like supporting local businesses, too! read more

this store offers a very wide selection of oriental foods, fresh, frozen, and grocery items. if you're not sure what the products are the owner will explain how to use them. I enjoy coming here because I see new products that I've never used before, and yes there are bigger markets in the Portland area that had everything. but that's 60 miles away. this is locally owned business. read more

The store was clean and comfortable and the women at the register was the nicest person I interacted with all day.
