Mina's Thai Café is officially a new favorite. It's a tiny little gem hidden off Commercial street with a quiet ambiance perfect for date night or to catch up with an old friend. I ordered the Thai basil, Thai green tea, vegetable wrap, and papaya salad, and everything was absolutely delicious. The Thai basil was fresh and fragrant, the papaya salad was crunchy with a really bright, bold flavor, and the Thai green tea was perfect. The vegetable wrap was hearty and loaded with veggies -- I probably should have added tofu or shrimp, but that one's on me for not clicking the button I ordered medium spice on both dishes and wow... they do not Americanize their spice level. It's legit Thai heat, so if you're sensitive, take note -- but if you love real flavor, you'll be very happy. I scheduled my order through Uber Eats and went in to pick it up, and I was greeted right away by a super friendly young woman, which made the whole experience even better. It's fast to come out and absolutely delicious flavoring. The menu is vast and I can confidently say as a mango sticky rice fan, they have the best one in town! I had been wanting to try this place for a while, but unfortunately, I was really disappointed. I ordered the curry puffs (my favorite), Thai wings, and Pad See Ewe. The curry puffs were overwhelmingly sweet and not at all what I expected. The wings were dry, overcooked, and swimming in sauce, which made them unappetizing. The Pad See Ewe lacked flavor, was very dry, and had very little chicken or vegetables, mostly just dry noodles. Well, why didn't anyone tell me about this café? Amazing food it was so delicious. I wanted to just sit there all night and relax. I could only eat half of my portion so I did not get a chance to have the dessert but I can tell you now my food Was so so delicious. Not only that I get to enjoy a delicious meal and a wonderful environment but the owner personally came out and said hello and sit and talk with us. She is offering cooking classes on Sundays. Delicious food! Garlic heavy with very decent-sized portions. We got the duck noodle soup and oyster sauce broccoli with crispy chicken. They did not skimp on the protein portions! Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants in Salem, upon entering today, I was greeted by a friendly staff member shortly there after I was also greeted by the owner. It is wonderful seeing the active owner and their business. The small intimate café is very well done. However, onto the Thai food. You typically order a few items today Igot the chicken. satay I have to say I was very surprised although this typically it's just served on a skewer nothing truly special about it. At Mina's I would highly recommend not to skip this. Not only was it beautiful. It was incredibly moist and well done.. I also did an order pineapple curry. Very disappointed in the *service*.. we probably waited 30 minutes for food to be served.. in between time at least 10 to go orders were passed out at the window.. people walking in and giving "to go" orders, and about 20 people being seated.. 1 waitress (and she was in the back room as much as she was working tables.. cooking?).. I really enjoy Mina's Café, especially when Mina is there cooking and running the business. However, today was very weird. I don't think Mina was there because I did not see her and the lady with the dark brown hair that was serving us was kind of snippy and took forever to take our order in the beginning And then when I got my receipt, I noticed I was overcharged for the pad Thai it is only $10 but she tried to charge me $14 so I had to have her correct that and then my daughter asked if she could have a Sprite to go and the lady asked us if the tip money we gave her was for the sprite because it was an extra three dollars for a to go soda, even though we already paid for the soda while dining, so I don't know if we will return to dine in because it seems like the lady was trying to over charge us to keep $ for her tip, on top of the tip I already left that she said should have been for the to go soda that we paid for while dining in. Place was very empty at lunch time except I could hear a few people behind the curtain for the slot machines. Been going to Mina's for about three years. Most recently we were part of a foursome eating inside. The Pad Thai was of course awesome, but also the Tom Kha soup. I preferred mine with the pork but my wife liked the chicken better, both absolutely wonderful. Leave room for desert as the mango with sticky rice is totally decadent. We will continue to come back as it's one of our favorites. The dining space is fairly small, but in good weather you can sit outside. First time here, we were a party of four. We were greeted by a waitress who was very attentative and Mina herself. We ordered the egg rolls, I had the pineapple fried rice, bf ordered the beef bbq (which takes 20 minutes to cook) and MIL and step-son had beef and chicken pho, which they both stated was good. Food was good, water for the table and green and thai tea. I would definately eat here again, but I live in WA State and MIL lives in Eugene, so this is a half way point for both of us. During the COVID19 I decided to get some takeout. Mina opened her drive thru graciously during this time so she could continue her business. I was drawn to Mina's because she offers zucchini noodles and cauliflower rice. That is a huge plus for me while I'm on a journey to lose some weight. Anyway, of course the service can't be beat.... but the food- delicious! My 11 year old daughter can't wait to go back and get her chicken fried rice. I'm recommending it to everyone! I have made it my personal goal to try every Thai restaurant in Salem, so tonight I tried Mina's! I've seen a lot of great Facebook posts, especially during COVID, of great specials. You can tell Mina possesses a special grind and attitude to keep her business afloat. Tonight I decided to try the Crispy Egg Roll Salad as I'm trying to be a little lighter for summer. It did not disappoint! With fresh apples, carrots, lettuce and veggies, you can't go wrong! Mina puts her own Thai twist on it with the chopped egg rolls, bean sprouts and sweet n sour sauce. Best Thai/Laotian food in Salem! Great Thai dishes, including Crazy Stir Fry, Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai. I am a semi new vegetarian, and they have the best tofu dishes in Salem. They also have delicious Pho bowls, that I no longer partake in, but my wife and MIL love. They also have some American food options, including chicken and fries for picky eaters like our boys. We were disappointed with our lunch experience today. We have not visited this cafe since just before the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, my husband and I had lunch here weekly. It was our favorite restaurant. Today, we ate here and found that the menu, the recipes, and the meal prices have changed. I would always order Singapore noodles and the dish was delicious. Today, the meal tasted much different. There was a ball of dry noodles, no sauce, and different ingredients such as kale. I was so disappointed . Pretty good Thai food. Not my favorite but my teenage son loves it. (Probably because he can get blended bubble tea smoothies here as well as yummy noodles.) I've had really mixed service. Sometimes friendly, sometimes not. Often slow and understaffed. Definitely worth a try to decide for yourself, but I probably wouldn't drive across town for it. Update: I read another review stating that Mina's has cauliflower rice and zucchini noodles now! I might be able to have Thai on Keto?! Definitely will be back. read more

Maybe my expectations were a little too high after reading the reviews. I do love the Thai-American hybrid menu and the fact that they have bubble tea! I'll start with my least favorite, the Reuben. My favorite sandwich of all time. If it's on the menu I order it. My love for these sandwiches started when I was 4-5 y/o, my dad would make them for me after hours in the kitchen of the La Playa hotel where he worked as a chef. Been ordering them ever since. This sandwich was unbuttered and barely toasted, the bread was cold and somewhat soggy, lacked that buttery crisp when biting in. In addition the Rueben, typically piled high, was not. Minimal amounts of meat and sauerkraut. Came with fries, which I would rate as average. Would not order again. On the other hand the fried egg rolls were excellent. Wrapped in spring roll wrappers, not the thick egg roll wraps. They were served hot, fresh and crispy. The filling was also good and flavorful. My bf ordered the pad-thai which was absolutely delicious. Actually one of the best pad thai's I've tried. Would def order this again. And then we ordered 2 taro bubble tea's. FYI it is served frozen, not over ice. Which I actually didn't mind too much, it was delicious. Aside from the fact that my tapioca pearls were not cooked, at all. Many of them were completely hard and I had to keep spitting them out. I thought maybe it was the frozen aspect that was hardening them? But I've ordered many iced taro bubble tea's before where the pearls hadn't hardened. Maybe I would order again with the pearls? Or I'm thinking this was an isolated case and will try them again? Will see. Even though I'm only giving 3 stars, I am open to going back and trying them again. Thinking their Thai menu options are a better choice. read more
