The food was amazing and quick. I was greeted with the best customer service and respectful as well. This is my second time here and I am really impressed. It was really busy when I went for lunch but the guys working made sure I had everything and wasn't pushy to sell me anything else. The cashier even cracked a joke which to me is unheard of normally it's me attempting to be funny and lightened peoples days. From the outside, it's hard to tell if Santiam Subs is a sandwich shop, sports bar, or casino. To be honest, it's a little of all three, but we were there for the sandwiches. The food was so good, we went there two says in a row. The first day we had a chick wrap and salad. Both were very fresh and tasted great! The next day we had a hot chicken sandwich and a full roast beef sandwich. Neither disappointed. I was really impressed with the service. Just had a French dip and a side of mozzarella sticks with marinara delivered through a delivery service. Store-bought hoagie roll had 3 slices of roast beef and less cheese. Au Jus dip was brown water. Marinara for the sticks was also watered down. For a total of $14 and change before delivery fees, I could have gotten twice as much food from a fancy place downtown. The 5 star reviews here, on Facebook, and Google must be from friends is the owners. There is NO way they got the same food as me. A year ago my friend convinced me to give this place a go. She had been once before and claimed the wraps we're great. Right. At that time I got the Cajun chicken wrap, which was flavorless as hell. It was stuffed with mostly lettuce, and there was no "Cajun" to speak of, even in the Cajun ranch provided as a side. And did I mention that the ranch was watery? It was. So was the regular ranch that accompanied the cheese sticks. So two days ago I want a salad and, not wanting to drive my ass all the way down Lancaster to wendys (who has a shockingly good fast food salad), I try this place again. I order a half Cajun chicken salad. The guy runs to the back and grabs a head of ice berg (note: menu says "mixed greens") slices 1/3 of it and throws it into a clam shell. He then takes a slice of tomato and chops it up... Then two triangles of cheese and slices them, then throws in exactly 10 black beans. $4.50, people. I take it, knowing I have a random zucchini at work, as well as sunflower seeds, and doctor that shit up. I eat a bit of it and suddenly! i encounter a foul taste. The black beans. I crushed one between my fingers and--oh man. Not good. Straight up rotten. I am a bean fanatic. I eat beans frequently, and I cook my own from dried. Bad beans will make you sicker than shit... So I threw the overpriced, crappy salad away. This places primary business is lottery, much like a Coopers or DeDe's. They serve food because they have to, per Oregon law. It's no wonder their beans were rotten, and they don't keep salad fixings on hand--they don't get many food orders. I warn anyone who even THINKS about coming here: STAY AWAY. read more

My partner and I visited here the other night and were extremely disappointed with the food and the cleanliness of the place. We ordered a BLT and a BBQ chicken sandwich. The place had run out of the breads for our sandwiches which was understandable knowing that we got there a little bit later in the day. When they were making our sandwiches, my partner's sandwich was completely made incorrectly to what we think was a club sandwich while the BLT I ordered only had 2 tiny strips of bacon on it, which prompted me to ask for more bacon for an additional $1. After receiving our food I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and discovered a concerning looking soap dispenser. I'm not sure if the soap dispenser had 2 different types of soap in it, or if there is actually mold growing inside the dispenser but it was concerning. The Sunday sub jones hit, and I suggested we try something different. Dropped by here as some errands had me in this part of town. I walked in around 2pm, place is complete empty. A man appears behind the counter, wearing a lottery t-shirt. From the lottery signs outside, inside, and now ON the staff... it's becoming clear to me what is really the focus here. The menu was oddly UNinspiring. Ordered a salami-pepperoni for me, and a roast beef-turkey for hubs. It took this very kind gentleman almost ten minutes to make two cold sandwiches. Again, I was the only one in there. He kept asking me the same questions, and kept looking back at the order board behind him. I was just chillin', so it wasn't a big deal. No, I don't want any fries or tots. No, I still don't want any fries or tots. Or chips. Or drinks. Or drinks. Or chips. $14 for two sandwiches, which I could see were mostly bread. The meats were sliced PAPER thin, and were laid only one layer deep. I drove straight home, and we dug into the sandwiches not ten minutes after they were wrapped. Mine was already soggy -- the Italian dressing they use on it just sogs into the pasty hoagie rolls they use (which, as Caitlin points out, are what I could buy at the grocery). Gross. Bites that weren't soggy were still mostly bread. (Although there was a lively mix of peperoncini, olives and pickles on mine.) Hubs was essentially tasteless. Looking at the sandwich cut in half, there's five times as much bread as meat on the sandwich. And... the roast beef... it was very lightly colored, actually hard to tell apart from the turkey. WTH? Disappointing. But, you can't win them all. I gave them a second star for being local. But it won't get me back in there to give them money again. A business card at the checkout noted the names of the owners. Steve is one of them. Looking on my receipt, it says Steve served me today. There must be another Steve there. read more

Absolutely disappointed. This is the only growler fill station on Lancaster and pretty close to where we live so we've been in a few times. They had a punch card that we filled last time we were in. Today I went on again with the punch card filled only to be told that they have changed to an online rewards system and they aren't honoring the cards any more. Too bad. I want to support a local small company but in this case I just don't see anything or any reason too other than it's local. I had sandwiches here about five times and they were good. I use to fill my growler. The last time I stopped by around Christmas and taste tested the beers, but they all had an off taste. Had a Reuben for lunch and it was really good. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shop was really clean.

My husband and I ate there today. When we made the order, the employee was wearing gloves. First, he did not change his gloves to start preparing our food. In the middle of making our food, he grabbed a dishrag from a bucket, used it to wipe the counters, then, without changing gloves, he started to continue working on our food. I asked him to please change his gloves. He did. Then, before our food was ready (and before I could say anything) he once again grabbed the dish rag from the bucket, wiped some things up, and then again worked on our food. That's the terrible part. He also couldn't count change. The till told him that he needed to give us $1.46. He could not count out the change. After about 5 minutes, he gave us back one quarter, 2 nickels and 2 pennies. We won't be going back. read more

It deserves a negative. Worst food ever and that is saying a lot I spent 12 years in the Army! My husband and I both had horrible sandwiches, soggy tater tots, and gooey jalapeno poppers. Stale store bought hoagie rolls, with barely any meat. We watched the employee play video poker almost the entire time we were there and kept coming out with cash to put in the till yet the safe was under the till. We heard him get into it once. I literally just got back from the worst experience at this place. I had called there to see if they were open. The guy working answered the phone sounding like he was angry and didn't say the name of the business just an angry hello. Against my better judgement i decided to go In and try them out. Walking in the worker ignored us to continue the conversation he was having with a friend throwing the F word around freely despite me standing there with my KID!! I shouldve left then but i just got off work and was hungry. Dude was worse as i ordered then was staring off at his wife and screaming kids (who were hanging out there while he worked) as if i was imposing on Family time instead of bringing my business to his place of work..
