We got our menus and I went online to check reviews to help me order.... And I was a little concerned. BUT, I'm so glad I didn't let the bad reviews sway me, because we loved it! The food was good, the service was even better... Shannel was our server and she took time going over the menu with us and answered questions we hadn't even asked yet. I used to serve and often that means I can get overly judgy, but Shannel couldn't have been better. A little late on the review but I wanted to make sure that I did go back to it. We probably only come once a year on our way to Eugene. This is usually our first stop for lunch. This visit was on point. The service was great and even the servers personality was great. The problem with writing it later is that you forget the name of some of the servers. My family and I like to visit McMenamins restaurants when we travel in the Pacific NW. We love the history and ambiance of the restaurants, but unfortunately, the service is often hit and miss. Thankfully, Boon's Treasury is one of the good ones. We visited during Happy Hour and the place was pretty full but we were acknowledged and seated quickly. The server came back in a few minutes for our drink orders, and a few more for our food orders. She was very pleasant and made some suggestions about what to order based on our preferences. I know this all seems like what you'd normally expect in a restaurant, but believe me, some McMenamins have reeeally bad service. This was great! The restaurant was great, the service was great, and the food was great (with lots of vegetarian options)! Especially given that The Ram in town closed after over 50 years, McMenamins Boon's Treasury will be our go-to for beers and pub grub the next time we are in Salem! read more

The service was incredibly sad, they informed us they were short staffed after waiting 25 minutes to place an order as both servers walked past us several times to tables that came in after us. No flexibility at all. Ordered a burger with side salad to replace the fries. OK no problem. Need to add one more side salad - NO flat out, we can't do that. Say what! So let's think about this, we paid $2 extra for the special bun, we did not take the fries and they would not give us an extra salad. I ordered their Aztec salad for $20.50 and I'm really shocked by how terrible it was. The staff is Amazing and very nice but oh my word, the salad was awful. The size wasn't great, barely any romaine lettuce, the ground beef was just a half hamburger patty (unseasoned and I had to break it up myself), most of the lettuce was the core of an old tasting iceberg head of lettuce. Back in the day they used to have seasoned meat, onions, diced tomato, black beans, tortilla chips, salsa, and mixed greens. I have no idea who changed things but this is not it. I'd driven by several times and wasn't sure what this was, until I found myself looking for a nice place for a cocktail. It seems like it would be difficult to get into, but its rather easy, and there's ample parking The lanterns hanging from the trees on the patio create a warm and inviting ambiance, very romantic for anyone on a special date or occasion. There's a fireplace outside to keep you warm as the night air cools down. I enjoyed their Botanical Mule, but subbed the Gables Gin with a Botanical vodka. It was light and exactly what the evening called for. We caught the Happy Hour specials which run daily from 3 - 6 pm & 10 pm to midnight. The bar inside was a spectacular feature with gorgeous woodwork, and the bathroom walls were adorned with autographed band posters, notably Sleater Kinney. While visiting, I got a bit of history on this restaurant, and understand that they are an anchor spread across the PNW for decades now. Locations vary in character, inhabiting former churches and schools, and even a diseased woman's refuge. Their goal is to keep the past in the present and play upon that with each establishment. In fact, cultural icons were drawn to the place in the winter of 1975. Salem resident and local historian Professor John Ritter recalls that he and actor Jack Nicholson convened many times at Boon's Treasury after days of shooting during the filming of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest at the Oregon State Hospital. You can also sub the vegan patty with any hamburger. The Mystic sauce is "drinkable " lol. It's so good I sub it for ranch for my tots. I haven't had the gyros yet but that's the next try! My shirt still smells of it. However, good ambiance, friendly staff, great eats. The fiancé opted for the Portland Dip: a hot turkey sandwich on delicious French bread with grilled mushrooms and melty Swiss cheese with au jus for dipping. With a side of Cajun tots. In the rare moments she wasn't devouring her meal, she was raving about it. I had the traditional gyro which comes with beef (there are also options for chicken or vegan patties), tzatziki sauce, feta, cucumber, razor thin rings of red onion, lettuce and tomato all in a massive pita. With a side of Cajun fries, obviously. The beef was deliciously seasoned and steaming hot; a lovely complement to the cool, crisp veggies and tzatziki. Our server was sweet as pie and couldn't have made it a more pleasant return to in-house dining after an incredibly awful year filled with limp, lackluster delivered meals (no shade, those folks have been busting their butts over this past year!). My quest to get all the stamps for my Cosmic Passport is an enjoyable one and by going to all of the locations that is on the passport it takes me to places and neighborhoods I never really gave much thought of going to. This location seems to be in a more historic building and is not located in a strip mall which gives this location more appeal and character. The Mcmenamin pubs often have the same menu or slightly varied menu from pub to pub. The menu at this location had more of a noticeable variation of sandwiches which I found interesting. I got a kind of grilled cheese panini type sandwich with some peppers, jalapeno I believe. The sandwich was highly enjoyable and I found the overall meal and visit very satisfying! read more

The restaurant is so cool, I'd go here for drinks as a first choice any day of the week. Pros: - Drank: The drinks are great and there are a metric boatload of options. The bartenders seem to know what they're doing because the drinks always turn out delicious. - Classic McMenamin's: I just love em they always look great and this one is top notch. Had a live band playing one of the times I came and had a show for free. - So Sweet: The server at our table was the sweetest dude ever! He seemed so genuine and stopped to chat with us on multiple occasions, ever attentively. He had a smoldering smile always on his face - seemed like he really enjoyed working there. We stopped in here on a whim as we were passing through Salem. Each McMenamins has its own unique menu, and the Boon's Treasury didn't disappoint. It's a solid burger tavern. At around 2 on a Friday afternoon, the restaurant was pretty empty. We snagged a seat, ordered two burgers and the brewers salad and enjoyed the eclectic mix of the old treasury and the random art while we waited. The server was friendly and attentive, and it wasn't too long after ordering that we had our food. The food was great, but they switched the patty temps as mine was well and my wife's was medium. No biggy, but it is that which prevents a higher rating. The prices were reasonable, and the beer selection was bountiful. Strangely enough, the men's restroom had a distinct aroma of aged pine and musky must that only comes with buildings over 100 years in age. Nothing nasty (as in bathroom smells), but definitely a scent that triggered childhood memories of my family homestead in the Midwest. If we ever slide through Salem again, we'll no where to get solid sustenance. read more

My husband and I came here last night for a late dinner around 9:00 pm after being on the road most of the afternoon. We were worried since there were so many cars parked on the street, but we did manage to find one last space in their tiny 10-space lot. There is usually plenty of street parking on Liberty. Service was great. We were greeted right away when we entered and when we told the server we were going to sit outside, she came out quickly to bring silverware, napkins, and menus, and to take our order. We had Scooby Snacks (mini corndogs - appetizer) and each had a burger. The portions were huge - way too much food for the both of us. The Scooby Snacks were fresh out of the fryer, and it seemed like there were about 30 (!) of them in the basket. They were good, but the yellow mustard I had seemed a little watered down. My regular 6 oz burger was perfectly cooked. I asked for medium well and it was right on point, no pink but still juicy. I love that they add pickles to their regular burger, and the tomato and lettuce were fresh and crisp. Their secret sauce is good - I believe it's a mixture of mayo and dijon mustard. My husband had the Wilbur's Jumbo Deluxe. He said it tasted good, but it was so messy the whole thing pretty much fell apart after a few bites. I love the Hammerhead, it's a great pale ale, not too hoppy. They also have a full bar with a great selection of their wines, beers, and whiskies. They always have interesting food specials. I wish they would put their onion rings and/or hush puppies on the regular menu. Those were sooooo good. They have live music Friday's and Saturdays - beware - sometimes it gets a little loud inside. Outside seating is great when it's warmer and there are no bugs, although they do have heaters outside for when it's colder.
