I just got back from vacation and had an email re the new triple stacker sandwich which sounded very good. I had my wife pick up a to go lunch and brownie too from here. The smoking triple stacker was very good and easily my favorite Firehouse sub sandwich yet. I do hold the mayo though on these as most come with it. I personally don't like a lot of mayo on my sandwiches. The killer addition is the coleslaw. Having spent a lot of time in North Carolina they add slaw to the BBQ and it makes a great sandwich. I really liked the sandwich and brownie. My only point of sadness is this is a limited time sandwich which will probably disappear soon. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We had a t-mobile Tuesday promotion for a free medium hook and ladder sub, so we decided to give it a shot. The hook and ladder subs consists of turkey, lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, provolone cheese, and onions. I could tell that the meat was a higher, more quality ingredient compared to competing sub restaurants. I also ordered a cup of chili as a side. The chili was actually really yummy!! It wasn't spicy at all, and it had a great flavor. The reason we haven't come here is the price. It's more expensive than other sub shops. It would've been $9 for the 8" sub I got tonight. Was it worth that price? I actually think yes, it was. I want to try the cheddar brisket or Philly cheesesteak next time I come in I would suggest keeping the employees personal conversations on a lower volume. They were talking about rats in other Firehouse Subs, but how they've never had any there. I mean I guess that's good, but I don't want to hear about rats in restaurants when I'm ordering my food. We recently celebrated a birthday and went to order our birthday treat. Upon arrival, the staff told us we couldn't use it at the register because it was in-app only. No problem! Such a great, human interaction. They were very polite and quick to help one another behind the counter. I only have great things to say about this group! As for the sub, BOMB. I love cheesesteak any way it comes and firehouse subs should be on my regular rotation more often. To management, keep hiring good people and treat them right! We ate there for the first time tonight. The food was hot and delicious. However, there was a customer who came into the restaurant while we were there. They had ordered on the app and did not receive their drink. It was one drink. They refused to give her a drink. They said the app was wrong. The customer had a hard time speaking English. She went out to her car and sent a man in. The man also had a hard time speaking English. For about 10 minutes he spent trying to explain that they ordered a drink on the app and the employee just kept telling him that there was no drink ordered on the receipt so she wouldn't give him one. After about 10 minutes of back-and-forth, the employee, finally relented and gave the customer a drink. She should've just done that in the first place! The food is top notch, and I would've given at five stars, but that customer service was horrible. They shouldn't of had to argue with the cashier over a drink. read more

Visiting family, they decided to order supper from Firehouse Subs. My first time, I ordered Firehouse Steak & cheese. It's described as steak, melted provolone, caramelized onions & bell peppers, mayo & deli mustard. Having food allergies, I ordered without onions mayo or mustard. Honestly, upon opening, it had more onions than meat! I tried picking them off, but there wasn't much left. I put it in the trash and ate a much cheaper PB&J! We arrived around 7:50pm, the door shows hours of daily 10:30am-9:00pm. No one greeted us. We placed our order...asked if they give a firefighter discount and the girl ringing us up stated she wasn't sure....nor was she willing to ask anyone. No one spoke to us other than to place the order. As soon as we ordered a different girl locked all the doors. Yet according to the door they had another hour. Actually a very good sub place. They have mostly hot subs. Fire dept. theme is kinda fun. All of the staff is always very nice. They just got a new coke machine that has a computer touch screen on it. You make your selections on the touch screen. There is something like 150 combinations. I tried Firehouse Subs and I was impressed. I'm not a fan of Subway and this is no Subway. The biggest difference between the two is there is meat on the Firehouse Subs and are of a higher quality. Hit or miss on quality. Poor customer service. The Plainfield Firehouse Subs used to be my favorite. The last two trips have resulted in errors with the food and showed a lack of quality. Customers are supposed to be greeted upon entrance - no greeting today. While they were steady on business, there was not a line. We got our order to go. I ordered the New York Steamer described as: USDA Choice Corned beef brisket, pastrami melted provolone, deli mustard, mayo, and Italian dressing. The sub only had pastrami on it which included a giant layer of fat. It had very little mayo, no mustard and no Italian dressing. I took the sub back in. I was asked, "what's wrong?" I told them the sub only had pastrami on it, and it had a large layer of fat. I showed the sandwich to the order taker. She then told me that it is one meat and that it is corn beef brisket pastrami, and it always has fat. it was clear that there was not going to be any customer service; no offer to make it right whatsoever. I started to order another sandwich and decided not to as i sure didn't want to give them more business when they couldn't be bothered to assist. Finally, someone comes over and asks the name. I told him and he replied that he didn't have an order for that name, then I told him that I've already paid for it. He walks away but says nothing. A few more minutes pass and finally another man comes over and asks what the name on the order was. I told him and proceeded to ask him if that was in fact FHS #584, followed by showing him the order on my phone. He said he didn't know what happened (HOW CAN YOU NOT???)but that he'd make the order and bring it out to me if I'd just pull up. I started to but then he yelled to wait. Of corse there was another vehicle right on my bumper hindering me from backing up. So I opened the door and the guy hands me a bag and says "it's been sitting next to the window this whole time." Tried this place for the first time and it was terrible! I ordered a vegetarian hot sub online and asked for no mayo. What I got was a soggy sub drowning in mayo, with no mustard on it and little to no cheese (the menu says there should be three kinds). I even found a piece of ham on it (I don't eat meat). We came to firehouse for dinner after being on the road all day. The food was fine, but the staff was only concerned with leaving right at 9pm. The website says that the restaurant closes at 10pm and the door says 9pm, so when a family came at 8:55 they told them "no we can't serve you, we close in 5 min." They called a customer with an online order and told them if they didn't arrive by 9 instead of the pickup time of 9:03 then they wouldn't serve them. To top things off, they turned the lights off while we were still sitting there eating. We normally enjoy their sandwiches but this customer service experience was less than pleasant. read more

I'm sorry, but yelling "Welcome to Firehouse Subs" whenever a customer walks in, giving us a free sub because they made our order incorrectly, giving me a free drink and cleaning my table... all of the above does not make up for a sub-standard (no joke intended) product. First, the girl at the order desk kept taking phone calls instead of taking my order. Sorry, but in this day and age, a REAL LIVE HUMAN standing there takes precedent over a phone order. Every time I tried to order, the phone would ring again and she'd stop me. This is horrible service. The price for this "sub" is way too high. I can get double meet at Subway and pay the same price and get a MUCH better sandwich. Very little meat, a ton of iceberg lettuce and that's it??? They didn't even ask if I wanted anything else on the sandwich, a standard at almost every sub shop. Sorry, I won't be back, I can't figure out why this place is popular, they have the people of Plainfield completely fooled. It's amazing how the food here can have zero taste to it. I've had their hots subs twice for work events and both times they were sorely disappointing. I don't know why they called their subs "Hot" when the toppings were cold and flavorless, even the pickles and sauteed onions. Worse yet, all the toppings were drippy so the bottom bun was soggy and fell apart. Won't eat here unless I have to. read more
