The food was hot and fresh. The line was not long and food came out fast. The bun on the sandwiches were very soft and the burger was cookies to perfection. The cheese melted perfectly between the burger. I loved the grilled onions. Sweet and the perfect amount of bbq in every bite. The general manager Tony Anthony was very nice. He forgot the straws but I had some at home. I am currently craving more and begging my husband to take me back. He said no unfortunately but I will be coming back asap. This location is near our office and I pop by once a month and am never disappointed. The owner is friendly and hires great staff, no issues with the wait or the food ever. They've recently removed several items from the menu. They no longer have the Cajun burger which was one of my family's favorites. The speciality shakes are half price from 2-5 actually all the shakes and fountain drinks are. For the holidays they have pumpkin spice, eggnog and peppermint chocolate chip, Yum! Steak n' Shake is reasonable and the table service is a plus also eating on actual plates and using real slivers ware. read more

I'm sorry but I tried. I really did try. 8/3/2021 at 815PM I drive up to the drive through to indulge in a fast food burger. Was told "we are CLOSED for 20 minutes". Kind of odd, but hey, odd stuff happens. I leave, but later that evening I'm headed back to my hotel at 9PM, decide to get a shake! Guess what? Told, rudely, we're CLOSED. Guess they meant for the night, not 20 minutes. But wow, I mean get it together. I drove through the the lane to leave, noticed all the outdoor trash cans are overflowing, spewing trash everywhere. The food tastes like Steak & Shake always has, but it's no longer an enjoyable visit. They apparently don't have wait staff anymore. Rather, there are 4 video screen kiosks setup right where you walk in the door, but in our experience they usually have 2 of them out of service, perhaps in an effort to reduce crowding in that area. It takes much longer than usual to place your order this way, even for the technically adept (I really feel sorry for those who are not technically adept -- I guess the cost savings are worth losing their business). They could really use the help of a good UI designer. I had to show people where to find the chicken fingers after they insisted they were no longer included on the menu. They're there, but just in a different section, harder to find. Then they have the temerity of suggesting to add a tip at the end of this process. I guess after running the gauntlet of dealing with their kiosk, then bringing your food back too your table yourself, getting your own soda, bussing your own table, they feel entitled to a tip. After the ordering process leaves you in a foul mood, then be prepared to wait for about 15 minutes for your order. There's no longer hot sauce on the tables. I found one bottle of hot sauce near the soda machine that had a tiny amount left in it. Perhaps you have to ask at the counter for more, but you get the distinct impression they don't want to deal with us humans. If they want to move to the self-service kiosk model, they should consider putting kiosks on all the tables, so you can sit there with your companions and place your order in relative comfort, rather than fighting for a spot at one of the 2 open kiosks up-front, and having to try to remember what everybody at your table wants. Next time we plan for a meal at that exit, I plan to try the Mexican restaurant instead. Looks like it has a lot of good reviews. read more

Most of this review reflects changes made by either corporate or local management/ownership (it appears that this is a corporate thing). This Steak-n-Shake doesn't use the restaurant model that the chain had before the pandemic - we ordered on a screen, picked up our food from the counter when it was ready, and refilled our own drinks. We had minimal interaction with the staff, and most of that was when I asked for a spoon for my kids' applesauce (which they provided promptly). We arrived at 5pm and the dining room was nearly empty; there were no cars in the drive-thru. Still, the bathroom was dirty. The best part of the experience was the food - tasted as good as it did the last time I visited. Still, not sure that I want to return with this change in procedure taking a lot of what made Steak'nShake fun for me. read more

No longer a good place to stop for a quick, tasty meal. Inside ordering involves using a kiosk with no human interaction. They are severely understaffed with 2 people running the whole restaurant (more of a workaurant now). It took 20 minutes to get 2 burgers and fries. read more

This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. My family walked into a completely empty restaurant, no employees were seen for the first 10 mins. We placed our order on the kiosk, which is a horrible idea to force customer to have to place orders manually. The floors we so sticky that all of our shoes sounded like we were walking on gum. We place the order then 3 employees run out of the back room to start cooking. We go look for a table, and every single table was nasty and sticky. My wife had to clean the table with wipes before my kids could even sit. Then we wait for our food to come out. We get our food and all of the fries are cold, all four orders! I order a cup of chili, paid extra for cheese and onions, and it looked like watery brown soup. No beans, no meat, just brown liquid with cheese and onions. Best part was the chili was cold!! One of my son's were so grossed out with the whole experience, he requsted to go outside, where it was cleaner. I would pass on this location until they get their act together. read more

I should be able to give this place 0 stars because this place is absolutely ass. I am here for Jr gold and just arrive and wanted something quick to eat. We get our food and our fries are cold and stall. Our burgers had hard items in them. They gave us the wrong burger and also the patties are as thin as paper. They don't even melt the cheese and on top of that the workers their are super disrespectful. We also asked for no whip cream on the shake and we all got whip cream. Absolutely disappointed in this place for such a big company they should really redo their restaurant and hire new staff. Giving credit where credit I'd due. I only wish I had asked or noticed the name of the gal serving me today because I would have liked to leave her a compliment on the Steak & Shake website by name. Instead I'll identify the date and time along with the order number so they can find her. I hope they actually care!! Today was a pleasant change from my past visits here. I've not had good service from this store and have avoided it like the plaque for well over a year and a half due to extremely poor service, inappropriate comments to me and only one response from Steak & Shake's Customer Service line out of multiple notes sent in. I tried to help them by reporting troubling service because I like Steak & Sake food but to me their actions felt like they didn't really care. Today I decided to try them for the first time is like I said, a very long time. So, today's visit. I pulled up to the drive thru today at 2:10PM. I asked for a special request and it was accepted. I placed the rest of the order and the gal on the other end of the speaker went through my order and verified it was what I requested and gave me the cost. I pulled up to the window, was met with a smile and another confirmation and paid the bill. Then very quickly I received my order very hot and accurate! I know it's fast food, but trust me when I tell you this experience is a giant leap up from my last 5 experiences at this store and I hope the management continues to reward great servers like I met today. By far the worst restaurant experience ever! The only thing going for this place, is it was open after midnight when everything else was closed.... but for me, wish they weren't! Took 30 minutes in drive-thru from placing order to receiving food. While waiting, we got entertainment from the 3 employees smoking outside and complaining about their fellow employees. Extremely SLOW!!!! We use to come here a couple times a month but stopped due to bad service. We have tried several times again only to be disappointed. The wait staff turnover is atrocious. Seems to be all new faces every time we come here. The cook staff can't push out food fast enough on busier nights and the wait staff doesn't know how to handle busy times due to lack of training and direction. This place used to be fantastic and a go to place in Plainfield but not now. We have talked (in a civil tone) to the manager, who didn't seem to care about the high turnover and slowness in food. It's a Steak and Shake and I had a pretty typical experience. At first I thought they gave me an enormous chili mac supreme (sans meat, of course), but then I realized they put it on a different plate than I normally use, so it was manageable. My shake was forgotten until I brought it up after my food had arrived, and when I got it, it wasn't properly mixed: there was solid ice cream deep in the cup. Not sure why all the bad reviews. We arrived about 11:45. Every table but 1 was full. We were seated quickly about 3-5 minutes. After we were seated as tables cleared out they didn't stay empty for long. Our order was correct and food was ok. It's fast food after all. The shake was delicious. We were quickly on our way . For customer service 5 stars. For fast food quality 3. It was clean inside. The amount of food for the price was average. It's only my 3rd time ever eating at a steak and shake. Sheri & I love the hashbrown rounds, seasoned crispy rounds of comfort food. pancakes for fluffy a little tough from being over mixed, but served with real butter. Cheddar egg scrambler was delicious with lots of sausage and grilled onions. Most times I only give chain restaurants 3 stars, but this chain & location is exceptionally good, so they get 4 stars. read more

What a train wreck. Came in for 3 milkshakes to go at 10:30 on a Saturday night. Short staffed is putting it mildly. 2 servers covering the dining room, take out orders, and the cash register. I don't get all of the negative reviews, but my son and I enjoyed our dining experience here last Tuesday at Noon. We waited for 3 minutes and were seated. Our server came over soon after and took our order. We knew what we wanted. The place was busy, but not full. Our food was delicious, and the bacon double cheeseburger was expectedly tasty! I did notice that the burgers at all Steak N Shakes are smaller than they used to be. The chocolate shake is still my favorite among other restaurants. read more
