Packed on a Sunday afternoon. Like nowhere to sit or stand packed. Now admittedly we went to pick up our Comicpalooza tickets, which by the way you can't buy on site like their email claims. You gotta buy it online and suffer the ridiculous 15% "service charge". But that story is for another day I suppose. The staff was pleasant and today's special was Italian sub. Pickle spear comes on the side for no extra charge. Free standing soda machine with free refills (take that McDonald's). The outdoor strip mall it's in is like a blast from the past. Cafe Express. James Coney. Even JCPenney. Omg. I've time warped. But all very bright and clean looking. Not like run down as you'd probably expect to see these stores in. The sub hit to spot and now we're set for next week at Comicpalooza too!

My friend and I dined in at firehouse subs after a workout. I never really come here, so I was kind of taken aback by the prices. I paid a little over $7 for a small Italian sub, that's without any customizations or sides. I knew it'd be small but not that small... especially for that price hahaha. It was still good, and I enjoyed eating it with the pickle on the side. I just wouldn't willingly come here on my own. Plenty of parking in the plaza! Workers are friendly and service was relatively quick.

The Bible warned of Firehouse and Brimstone, and it came half true with this excellent sandwich shop. They have some of the better chain sandwiches in Houston, wayyyy better than Subway. Delicious sandwiches over here in Meyerland, and definitely one of the better sandwich chains out there. I personally prefer Potbelly, but they are very good, make no mistake about it, and I always thought their chili was pretty good too.  We've only had one sandwich from this Meyerland location, but we come to this plaza all the time, so I'm sure there will be return visits.

Service is great, food comes out perfect each time. If you ask for extra, they never miss! 10 out of 100 stars! Come to this place once or twice a week. Worth the drive.

Hubby loves firehouse subs. They are good. Visited firehouse subs. I recently had a birthday. I am a participant in their members, app program. Redeemed a free medium sub. This is awesome. Hubby got a sandwich. A free medium sub for your birthday is really generous. We got hero and engineer. Excellent customer service.

This was my first and last time at this location and let me tell you why. I was in a rush so I knew exactly what I wanted. Not many people in the dining area waiting so when I walked in I ordered and waited. First thing I noticed was the wet mop left out in the dining area. Gross. I've worked in food service before and that's just something you don't do. Even if you get customers while moping you apologize, take 5 seconds and put the mop in the back and then come take care of customers. Second thing I noticed was the girl DID NOT change her gloves after touching several things prior to making my sandwich. Again gross. Talk about food safety. Thirdly, they make your sandwich right on this red cutting board. I asked the manager how often they clean it and Danny (think that was his name) said, "after making 2-3 sandwiches with food safe disinfectant". Not acceptable for me! How hard is it to put one of those papers (don't know the name but almost looks like parchment paper) down while making the sandwich? I smelled my sandwich before I left to make sure the disinfection wasn't noticeable. Oh was I wrong. I couldn't smell it but I could taste it. GROSS. $14 for a large sandwich and it has hints of disinfectant. Not only that the bread was toasted too long. I even asked another girl who was lingering behind the counter, "is anyone making my sandwich"? She told me it's in the toaster. How long does it take to toast bread? Then the sandwich was DRY. DRY DRY. It was screaming for more BBQ sauce. And I had to come home and add more cheese. The girl barely put anything but meat and mayonnaise on the sandwich. I know prices are high but that's no reason to be stingy on the ingredients. What a waste of $14. Next time I want a sub sandwich I might as well go across the street to H‑E‑B and make the sandwich at home.

So when I decided to give Angelo Z's a try, I came in hopeful but ready to judge with the precision of a seasoned shrimp connoisseur. First, I'll give credit where it's due: the place is designed beautifully. Clean, inviting, well thought-out décor. The staff? Top-notch. Friendly smiles, fast service -- the kind of welcome that makes you want to pull up a chair and stay awhile. But then my shrimp po'boy arrived. And that's where things took a turn. The bread was toasted -- yes, toasted -- which, for a Louisiana po'boy, is already a red flag. To make matters worse, it wasn't even the traditional French bread that's light, airy inside, and has that delicate crackle on the crust. Instead, it was a dense, over-toasted loaf that crunched like I was chewing on a roofing shingle. Then came the real deal-breaker: I bit in and realized the shrimp hadn't been deveined. At all. And for anyone who knows seafood, that black line running down the back isn't some "seasoning" -- it's grit and waste. One glance at that and my appetite clocked out. I understand I'm not in Louisiana anymore, and I'm all for creative spins on classics, but there's a line between "putting your own twist" on something and missing the fundamentals altogether. Unfortunately, this missed the mark in a way I couldn't overlook. Beautiful space. Wonderful people. But for me? A shrimp po'boy that isn't deveined, on the wrong bread, and toasted into oblivion isn't a po'boy worth coming back for.

I don't eat meat, but I NEEDED a grilled cheese and an order of onion rings just sounded like the right thing to do, so I did it. My oh my! What I got was the largest grilled cheese sandwich I've ever seen on what I think was brioche bread? It was very much the texture of a croissant and whoa....so tasty! The onion rings were very nice with thick sliced onions so the ratio of onion to batter was perfect. JLB obviously takes changing out the oil in their fryers seriously (as many places don't) because they were fresh and didn't taste like anything that had been deep-fried in the oil previously. This is a real issue for me. I don't want tortilla chips that smell and taste rancid, nor do I want churros that taste like tortilla chips that have been previously fried in the same rancid oil. I have an extremely sensitive olfactory sense, but it lends itself nicely to eating out at establishments that take the care and concern for cleanliness and their patrons. Speaking of cleanliness, JLB is spotless, although to the point the cleaning products smell overwhelm the entire small establishment. I immediately knew when I walked in that I couldn't eat there, but I'm sure glad I ordered to-go! My order was prepped and ready swiftly and too big to eat for just one person so I shared with my neighbor who is recovering from an injury. I can't stand the whole b s smash burger trend, but this one is truly an exception here. The high quality Angus beef combined with generous seasoning, just the right amount of outer meat char, very tender n juicy meat core, refreshing tomatoes n pickles and homemade, warm, buttery brioche buns with that gooey feel make it a win. The meat to bread ratio was perfect and not full of too much bread like Whataburger or something. I always have to have tomatoes on my burger and also either pickles or thin, shredded lettuce. Very simple and a great burger, much like a great NY pizza doesn't need much. Many burger places have to add all those onions, excess cheese and sauces to cover up their flawed, bland meat. Thankfully, 3-6 places in the region for burgers get it right for restaurant / non-drive thru burger types. Great, fast service.
