If you are looking for healthy or light options, Cafe Express is a solid option. I came here on a little lunch date recently and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I had visited before years and years ago so my visit was a nice reminder of what Cafe Express is all about. This location is in a large shopping area and parking is very plentiful. I was also reminded that this is a popular spot at lunch time. It gets really busy and you may have to wait to find a table. It's counter service where you order and get a buzzer. People are in and out of here in a fairly quick manner. The food did take awhile to come out though. On both of my visits I went for handheld options. Years ago they had a really great turkey burger and I was sad to see it wasn't an option anymore. I ended up getting a turkey club and it ended up exceeding my expectations. I can't say it differs much in comparison to other club sandwiches I have had in the past, but what makes everything stand out here is their use of quality ingredients. From what I read, they make alot of ingredients in house and source items from all over the world as well. My date really enjoyed her salad and I low key wished I had ordered one as well. They also have items like soups and full entrees. Desserts are mostly packaged options like cookies and brownies, but they also have a few options like sliced cakes. It's not a crazy big menu, but they got something for everyone. I wouldn't say I seek out healthy options, but when I do come to places like this, I tell myself I need to come more often. To be fair , I hadn't been in Cafe express at the Meyerland location in over a decade, and now I remember why..Food is supposed to be fast and fresh "Italian" options of pastas, salads , and sandwiches.. My friend and I ordered the soup side and sandwich option along with a fettuccine chicken pesto entree. Both were a miss for us a her tuna sandwich and side of tomato soup she described as plain and my pasta of fettuccine was very bland and seemed like it had the texture of having been sitting under a heat lamp for a while.. And these prices are not cheap you guys, so all I can say is I will be avoiding coming back here I suppose for another 10 years if the food remains like it was today.. read more

I haven't been to Cafe Express in a long time, I always forget about it as an option. I was craving soup leaving the gym and was hoping for a light option. The cafe has a very open dining room and patio seating. It was a little chilly, so we dined inside. The cashier was very friendly and helpful with menu questions. We had chicken orzo soup and the shrimp skewer with broccoli and spinach. Everything was flavorful and fresh. The broth of the soup was delish and I was actually surprised how many vegetables were included. I particularly appreciated the salad/soup garnishes they have by the fountain drinks along with lemons and mint. It was a relaxing, nice dinner and atmosphere. Good and clean eating! Mediterranean/ Greek forward style flavored dishes. Food tastes as if no chemicals were used to enhance flavor. No frills interior. I didn't realize how important background music can be and help set the vibe! This restaurant had none! Very quiet surroundings. I ordered food at the register and they brought the food to my table when food was ready. Fountain drinks and tea drinking options. The jewel is the small condiment area which consisted of olives, pickles and other small condiments you can add to your salad and or any dish you choose. Overall I spent about $26 for two people. Café Express has become a quick and convenient dinner option for me. They're open until 10 pm which is so helpful because I can stop by after my gym class and not be in a rush. The online order system is straightforward and easy to use. My food is always ready at the promised time and everything that I've ordered has been very tasty! The portions of most of the entrees are large enough for two meals. They have a variety of options from burgers to pasta, salads, and sandwiches. I've had some of the chicken and salmon dishes and they have all been so delicious! I don't typically dine in, but I did notice that they have a small bar that offers wine and beer. They have HH from 3-6pm daily. On a recent visit, I placed a dinner order to go. When I arrived to pick up the order, the store was closed due to a system outage. The next day I sent an email to corporate and within 24 hours, the manager Sandra replied. She refunded my order and offered a free meal for the trouble. Last night, I went to pick up the free meal. The staff was so nice and I was able to order anything I wanted. I had the Tuscan Amore Pasta with grilled chicken and a side spring salad. It also came with a piece of garlic bread. My meal was so good! I was worried that the staff wouldn't honor the offer as Sandra was not present, but there were no issues. I love good food, but more importantly, I love great customer service! Food was hit or miss, had a cafe Trio meal with a chicken pesto sandwich, Mac and cheese and pesto salad. The pesto chicken sandwich tasted good, had all the vegetables and the chicken was tender. I ordered over the phone and was told my total was about $56. When I checked my bank account, I was charged $67.30. That's an $11+ difference. The receipt they provided didn't even match the transaction on my card. When I came to pick up my order, I showed the manager my bank transaction and the time-stamped text alert from my bank. Instead of taking responsibility or trying to fix the mistake, he asked me to email or print out my bank statement--which I wasn't comfortable with. While I was still talking to him, he ripped open my stapled food bag (after handling the register) before even handing it to me. When I told him that wasn't okay, he brushed me off, saying he was "just checking to make sure a dessert was in there." His attitude was dismissive, and his tone made it feel like he thought I was being dishonest--even though I had proof right in front of him. I understand mistakes happen, but the lack of professionalism, the dismissive attitude, and the disregard for food handling were unacceptable. We have been going there for years but the last couple of times the food has gotten worse. The male cashier is kind of snobby and rude. The chicken pesto Alfredo has been dry the last two times. The limited time roasted chicken was tasteless and slimy, and I couldn't not eat the rest out of fear of getting ill!, I did finish my green beans! They also served a very small portion of mashed potatoes with the chicken. The lemon chicken was ok but not the usual delicious taste. So, overall this specific Cafe Express has lost a long time customer. On another note the nail salon next door is overpowering the food smell and its actually very strong. I had a difficult experience at Café Express-Meyerland on my 2 most recent visits. I arrived and placed my dine-in order. Service is usually prompt. But after waiting 25 minutes without getting my order I went back to the counter. Whether my order had been lost (possible) or just delayed behind a slew of take-out/catering orders (more probable) I don't actually know. The staff were apologetic and I eventually got my meal, but there is a cautionary tale here to be aware of. For a cafe that probably does a whole lot of takeout/catering orders every day (and based on the takeout bags I saw stacking up, that was the case when I visited), they need a process where dine-in orders somehow get integrated into the flow and not just put in the queue behind whatever large catering orders they get before the cafe even opens. Otherwise, you get what I experienced - they take care of ALL the pending catering orders in the system (a lot) and then they get to the in-cafe orders. I might still be waiting if I had not complained. I think they need a better order flow model to better serve both catering and dine-in customers. Be aware that if you visit when they first open or during the lunch rush when most of the pick-up/catering orders come in (sometime dozens of entrees per order for office type groups) you are in for a long wait behind them, not just behind other dine-in orders. read more

I eat here at least once or more every week. I freaking love the Greek chicken salad pita. Fries are nice and crispy. I also love the turkey club. Kettle chips aren't too hard where it kind of hurts from chewing. Salads are large portions. Chicken entrees could be a bit small. Chocolate chip cookies are chewy and loaded with chocolate chips. You can get bacon on the Mac n cheese. They have a pickle/peppers bar as well. Great lunch spot! read more

Ordered online for attendees at a meeting for work. Arrived to pick it up - very rude attendant, never smiled, said hello, nothing. Just looked at me and asked my name. Got back to the office and when I saw the order I was embarrassed to deliver to the executives in the conference room. It was so pitiful and looked terrible. Ordered an avocado club salad, a smattering of lettuce with 1/2 hard boiled egg and half an avocado lopped onto the top of it and maybe 3 to 4 (not even a full slice) of bacon put on it. It looked like a child put it in the container and it barely even filled the lower quarter of it. I mean sad and tired looking. So yeah - never again. Was told on the phone to give them a few minutes and they'll come right out with my order, but after waiting in the car for more than 15 minutes watching another customer pull up to another curbside parking spot and receive their order before I received mine I had to go in. This is a really great spot for a quick and easy lunch at reasonable prices. I really like the pesto chicken at this location. I was pretty impressed with this entree. I've been eating at Cafe Express Meyerland for over 20 years. The frequency varies, sometimes once a month or more, sometimes more like once a quarter. It's convenient to anyone in the Bellaire / Meyerland/ Westbury/ Willowbend area, and the dining room offers a pleasant ambience where you don't feel rushed to finish your meal. One thing that I appreciate about Cafe Express is that they refresh the menu every few years. That's not the say that I always like all the changes, but clearly they are trying to keep the concept from getting stale, and that is worthy of respect. It's probably part of the reason why they've endured for so long. My staple tends to be the turkey burger. It's a healthier choice than a regular hamburger, and there aren't too many places that I've found that have turkey burgers on the menu. They offer regular fries, sweet potato fries, or chips to go with it. If you're in the mood, I do recommend their sweet potato fries. The menu always features several kid-friendly dishes, and that's served my family well over the years. The service tends to be friendly, especially recently. Given that I've been to Cafe Express easily 100 times, there are a handful of occasions when the service let me down, but the last time was a number of years ago. If she was born with a defect that prevents her from smiling or saying thank you then her nasty attitude could possibly be understood, but that is not the case...she's a nasty unpleasant and disgusting employee...she should be replaced with someone who's attitude does not scream "I hate the fn job and the people that I have to take orders for"! A franchised cafeteria style restaurant that serves a variety of food. There are delicious choices in meals from unique salads to a collection of sandwiches. I tried the New Greek Chicken Stuffed Pita, basil pesto chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, greek dressing, kalamata olives & feta, stuffed in a pita with French fries. I've had their Roasted Half Chicken, oven-roasted half chicken with spices and herbs, very tender and juicy. Along with their Grilled Chicken with Basil Pesto, chicken breast drizzled with basil pesto sauce which was surprisingly not dry but tender. The most pleasant surprise was their Mac & Cheese, not Kraft but homemade creamy, velvety made in-house cheese sauce with shell pasta. Most places try to "fancy-up" Mac and cheese. Watch out when ordering. My wife got me a to go Mediterranean sandwich to go. She ordered the sandwich and the person taking the order asked her if she wanted chips or fruit with it. She said fruit. When she got home and we looked at the receipt we saw that we were charged $1.99 for the very small container of fruit. We are used to having it included in the cost of the sandwich and not added on at a fairly significant cost. The sandwich was good but the added on fruit seems sneaky.
