I've tried Firehouse before (through lunch catering at work) but this is actually the first time I've ate at the restaurant. This location is under new management since April 2016 and the owner, Josh, has been on top of his game! My boyfriend and I appreciated that he took the time out of his busy dinner rush to greet us and make sure our experience in his restaurant was going well. Besides the prompt and great customer service storewide, the sandwiches are great! I had the steak and cheese and my boyfriend had the Hero. Both were delicious and the large is so big that I had to take my other half home. Prime location in Fairfax Towne Center as well with plenty of parking. Grab a sandwich the next time you visit the center before you go to the movies or one of the shops nearby and don't forget to have a nice conversation with Josh - you won't be disappointed! I came here after shopping nearby and I'm so glad that I did. The owner, Josh, happened to be working on the floor as I was asking for a food recommendation. I'm so glad I asked because now I'm in love with their Hero Sub & Philly Steak with Cheese Sandwich. Josh and his staff are all super friendly and they always provide amazing service whenever I visit. The meat is steamed and made fresh which provides a better taste than normal sandwich shops. It's not a huge restaurant but there are plenty of tables for small or big groups. The plaza does get busy but there are a lot of parking spots available. I love that they greet you when you walk in. I wish more places did this! The menu isn't huge, but I love that they use fresh ingredients. Each franchise I have been to seems to uphold the brand standard well, and this Fairfax location is no exception. I also really like the fact that FS gives back so heavily to the community. I really didn't expect it to be THAT good since I figured oh, it's a chain sandwich place. But I was wrong. I went to this firehouse subs location at 8:45 pm... their website and door lists that they close at 9:00 pm. I arrived at the door and the door was locked. There was one employee inside, he saw me and proceeded to continue cleaning up and ignore me at the door (even though the store was still open for another 15mins) I wanted for two minutes before I decided to knock. He continued to ignore me so I knocked harder until he acknowledged my presence and walked to the door. He conveniently then told me the system was down so he could not serve me. Which is hard to believe considering he was already determined to clock out early. If the system was down, why lock the door ? They need to do better read more

This review ONLY addresses the new Prime Rib Steak Sub. In short, I'm glad I used Reward Points because if I'd paid I'd have asked for a refund. The only word I can use to describe it is "disgusting." I couldn't even eat it all, which for me, even when the food is bad, unheard of. A gloppy mess with zero flavor, even just the beef by itself was tasteless. Suspect maybe they "overachieved" with the mayo and mustard (which I couldn't taste) but I blame the recipe not the execution. Firehouse you need to drop this one. I came here to get more food after a disappointing pho meal. I came in a daze which I'll blame on starvation. In that daze, I ordered a medium rather than a large sub. Yeah, I know...I left my man card at home and who knows what happened to my Y chromosome. I looked over the menu and decided on the steak and cheese. It came with mushrooms, onions, peppers, mayo and mustard. All for about 7 bucks. This was basically the size of a hot dog. I paid 7 bucks for something the size of a Big Bite at 7-11. Granted, it was the size of the 1/4 Big Bite and not the regular...but still...a sub should not be the size of a hot dog. After I got over the initial shock, (you know what they say, it's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the....you get it), I figured maybe this is going to be the best tasting steak and cheese ever. Nope. Tastes like...mediocrity. Nothing in the sandwich stood out. There wasn't much of anything. The meat was meh and I didn't taste much of anything else. The location looks like a Quizno's with fireman paraphernalia. The staff were pretty friendly. But I can't support their end product. Sorry guys but it's trying to be Potbelly with a heart but PB has an advantage since they are a tad cheaper for more food. The Veggie Sub* wasn't very tasty, sort of bland and it was smaller than Potbelly (about half the weight with all the toppings.) Too bad cuz I really wanted to like it more. Every time that I've visited the crew here has been fast and very attentive to all my quirks that I throw in my orders and have yet to deliver anything except exactly what I ordered. However, the best part of the entire experience is definitely making small talk with the owner Josh. This is a person who takes pride in his shop and understands the value in building relationships with his customers. He is never too busy to stop and make sure you are satisfied with your experience and will do almost anything to make sure you are fully satisfied before you walk out of that door. The genuine interest that he shows when speaking with you is a lost art in the world of commerce these days, which is yet another reason how this shop is head and shoulders above the competition. Meh. Getting a combo meal (chips and a drink) with your sub will be a bit pricey. The Cherry limeade here was just blah - it tasted like concentrated cherry punch syrup - with NO limeade flavor at all. Not tangy or crisp. Sickeningly sweet. But they had the super soda machine with 5 bajillion soda combinations so I made my OWN cherry lemonade mix. (Still, they shouldn't rep cherry limeade and then have it suck so badly.) The sandwich was kind of sloppy when we got 'em and the wait was about 10 minutes. I haven't experienced the "line ordering" problem, but right away - I could see how it would be an issue since the register area is super tiny. ONE SUPREMELY IRRITATING NOTE: If you decide to donate $2 to get a "pickle bucket" - just a plain old red bucket, donating the proceeds to the local fire house - BEWARE - there is still pickle juice INSIDE the bucket. Yeah. So when you pick it up and put it in your car, it will reeeeeek. And when you bring it home, it will drip nasty pickle juices until you throw it outside to hose it off. I came in here tonight because I am dying of hunger and this restaurant has always satisfied my hunger cravings. When I came in at around i:15 there were two other people waiting for their order, which I believe was made online. The young employee who was working with the register was exceptionally nice and helpful. I ordered the Hook and Ladder small sub sandwich. He pointed out all of the ingredients that are included like lettuce, tomayoes, mayonnaise, and onions. I had asked to not include onions, and it was easy enough. They even included a pickle on the side which was nice. The two employees who prepared the sandwich had it ready in less than four minutes I think. I brought it to my car to eat, and it's quite good. Albeit on the small side, so I will have to order the medium size on my next visit! The ambience is the most awesome out of all of the sandwich shops. It was a cool experience! read more

Firehouse is a good place if you're in the sub mood but don't want the regular Subway or Quiznos. They have a good selection of subs to choose from and it's all made fresh. I ordered an Italian Sub "fully involved" meaning with all the toppings which was very good, it tasted better than other subs I've had in the past. The portion of meat was good and the bread was also better than average. Pricewise the subs here are more expensive so you're paying for the overall quality of the sandwich you're getting. If you're in Fairfax Towne Center and need a quick place to grab something to eat, Firehouse is a good bet. read more
