The place is not bad there food is not bad. We ordered the meatball sub sandwich but one problem with that it was piping hot you can see the steam of it had to wait 20 before trying to bite into it. A warning should have been said or I would had gotten 3rd degree burn in the mouth. One thing is the soda machine which is atrocious and beyond dirty there are 4 employees 3 males one female which has been in the bathroom for more than half hour twice withing minutes and 4 customers. Honestly.... Just go to subway. I got the Italian sub... makes subway look like it's a fancy 5 star restaurant. Not only was I disappointed in the sub, the Mac & cheese is cringe worthy. Not even at the sight, but the taste. It tastes like Alfredo sauce with hard uncooked shells. At the very least, please make sure the pasta isn't al dente and a sprinkle of anything would go a long way. Aside from that, the workers are nice.. which is why I added an extra star. There's a funny backstory as to how I came about this place and why it took me so long to review. The first time I ever visited Firehouse was a faint and distant memory featuring a sub which I *think* tasted lackluster and strange to me. It might have been an off day or whatever. I couldn't even tell you what type of sub I ordered that day. At any rate, I decided to let some time pass and give the place another try. I mean, how couldn't I?? They have a freakin' 4 and a half star rating for f*cks sake!! Like with many other sandwich shops, I decided to try two different sandwiches on two separate visits to get a proper assessment. First was the tuna: I modified the ingredients on this one a bit because they actually put deli mustard on there's. One question...WHY?! Who the eff puts mustard on their tuna? Wait...ya know what? Don't answer that. I'm sure there's like a super secret society of weirdos who prefer mustard to mayo on their tuna. And honestly, I've seen stranger things happen. Overall, the tuna was pretty damn good. I was surprised! SO many sandwich shops get this wrong and I don't understand why. It's as if the concept of mixing tuna with mayo and veggies is far beyond comprehension. But Firehouse managed to not let me down. So they get a gold star. Next was the steak and cheese: I had mixed pre-reservations about this because of the condiments included. They include mayo and deli mustard on theirs, which I figured...*could* work...as long as you treated it like a typical burger at a fast food joint. See, ordinarily, I don't prefer any condiments at all on my cheesesteak. That's because a traditional philly doesn't have any; just steak with cheese wiz, mushrooms, onions, and peppers. Figuring this was an in-house thing, I opted not to exclude the condiments but still nixed the peppers. Holy hot damn was this thing good! Was it the best cheesesteak I've ever had? Not hardly. But it was satisfying for what it was. The bread was fresh and crispy the way it should be and the condiments actually didn't take away from the natural steak flavors at all. Only minor complaints I have are that the mushrooms felt like they could have been sauteed a lot longer and the shaved steak tasted slightly cheap and chewy....almost as if they used steak-ums. But this works as a frugal guilty pleasure in the namesake of cheesesteaks. I dare even go as far as to say they're better than Brown Bag....but not quite as memorable as Which Wich or Jersey Mike's. And that's how I would rate Firehouse overall. Since, in El Paso, there aren't many (in my opinion) great choices for sandwich shops. Most of the places I love most are out of state. So you pretty much have: this place, Brown Bag, Which Wich, Jimmy John's, Subway, and Charley's. And I'd rate Firehouse somewhere around #2 or #3. But I need to order another sandwich from here before deciding for sure. For now, I'm gonna give Firehouse 4 savory cheesesteaks blended cleverly with deli mustard and mayo out of 5. read more

I have NEVER in my life, loved a sub sandwich as much as I loved my very first sub from Firehouse Subs. Before my delicious encounter with FS, I always thought my best options for a quick sub was Subway. I was such a silly lass back then. Subway has nothing on Firehouse Subs, NOTHING I TELL YA! I devoured a NY Sweeper sub on wheat in all it's cheesy, mustardy goodness. This sub was better than anything I've concocted at home on my own. Such a fool! FS doesn't add unnecessary toppings and loads up the delicious meats and melted cheeses. So damn good! I also love the whole flow of FS. As soon as you walk in they yell out "Welcome to Firehouse Subs" in unison. After you order you can just take a seat and they'll bring your food over to you. And if you're the kind of person that loves to load up your sandwich with sauces and whatnot, FS has a huge selection of sauces right at the counter. The house sauces are on point and you can buy them as well. And one thing that I've only seen at an El Taco Tote that FS also has is the amazing Coca Cola drink station. It has an assortment of different sodas and waters available that you can also get with additional flavors like vanilla Coke, cherry water, peach Fanta and so many more. I'm really upset with my grub hub experience. Yesterday I was browsing on Yelp and somehow ended up in the depths of Order only. It seemed too good to be true, but I decided to go for it. Click click boom. This being my first grub hub experience I was immediately filled with regret and called firehouse subs to confirm that it was ACTUALLY being delivered to me. I cannot stress enough that this was within a minute of placing the order via grub hub. This would give me the opportunity to cancel the order, call the hotline, then put it in correctly. The sweet gal on the other end confirmed my last and first name and said it was going to be delivered to me. I asked how, and she said based on my location/address, some speech. I trusted this to be true. I kept refreshing the screen, my email, the grub hub pop up even asked if I received my food. Something seemed off. It has been an hour since I called firehouse and certainly should have gotten my food by then. I contacted grub hub to check on my order and they told me it wouldn't be delivered........ .... what? There was nothing that could be done. I was told incorrect information. Firehouse never contacted me wondering why I wasn't "on my way" to pick up my food. My boyfriend and I ordered from here for the first time couple months ago. When the sandwiches arrived, they were both incorrect. We called and they came out and fixed it. We ordered again the second time today, again our order was incorrect. 2 out of our 3 sandwiches were incorrect. We called again and the woman who answered said she would make it herself and send someone out asap. They sent someone out and it was perfect. She ended up being the District Manager. Even though they've gotten my order wrong on multiple occasions, the customer service we receive makes up for it. They correct it and fix it immediately. They even gave us some free chips. I worked at firehouse for around half a decade , I have to start off by stating that many of the issues this location has is solely the owners fault . The owner has no leadership/organization skills and is EXTREMELY cheap . There were about 4 different circumstances we had in which all employees were not paid ,we did not have a fridge for the last 8months I was there, the electricity went out on one side of the kitchen , the equipment was falling apart just about daily. The owner has failed to keep the reputation of the restaurant at the standards they should be and cares very little about employees or training. The four locations including their newest one ALL had similar issues. Management is a problem I seem to keep seeing in the reviews , the "managers" are mostly made up of assistants to keep budgets low , assistants who are not offered bonuses , pto, health insurance or even full time (insurance purposes). I believe the owners should get off their behind and do what needs to be done to ensure the 20$ sandwiches are actually worth it , In my opinion the last time firehouse subs had an "ok" reputation was about 4 years ago. read more

I'm not very familiar with Firehouse, having been to one only once prior to the El Paso opening, so I didn't really have expectations or favorites going into this one. Generally, I'm always in favor of new sandwich chains moving here, which hopefully will eventually lead to EP finally getting a Jimmy John's. The hot subs taste very good, and are pretty big & satisfying, which is awesome! I particularly enjoy that the subs are hot but not toasted, which I prefer. I'm still working my way through the menu, but the Italian and Meatball are early favorites. The New York Steamer is okay, but its not quite a Reuben, and when I was eating it, all I could think of was eating a Reuben. I'm a big fan of the freestyle coke machine, and they have one, but if you're like me, you will be immediately drawn to the Cherry Limeade, and it is a BIG letdown. It just plain tastes bad, maybe the machine was acting up that day or something, I don't know. I'd normally not hold that against them, but it is the one drink that is actually made by them. There are a couple of other things you should be aware of, the first is that even though a lot of reviews have decided to compare it to Subway, which I think it's unfair because it is more expensive than Subway, the prices are closer to Potbelly's (about $10-$12/person), so I do believe Potbelly (which is also great) to be the more accurate comparison. The second thing you should know, is that the location is HORRIBLY INCONVENIENT, since getting to the upper-middle of The Fountains and out is a total pain in the a$$, and given the lunch crowd, you'll be hard pressed for time if you only have a 1 hour lunch; consider ordering online. Bottom line is, the subs are pretty damn tasty, and that's what matters. read more

I was impressed with the quality of food and customer service at Firehouse Subs. I have tried the meatball and the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket. Both were very tasty. I liked that they have a variety of sauces to add to your sandwich. They have one of the new Coke soda machines with a bunch of options. I also recommend the cookies, the lemon cookie was delicious. In the midst of all of the subways and quiznos in the area, Firehouse Subs is a breath of fresh air. They have a wide variety of subs that are tasty and chock full of awesome ingredients. This place is very family friendly but (like most new places in El Paso) can get annoyingly packed during peak lunch hours (11:30-1pm). The smoke house beef & cheddar brisket sandwich is ammmmaaaazing. The difference between the regular and large sandwich is about 4 inches. The regular size sandwich is about 8 inches whereas the large is around 12 inches. You can get a combo or just the sandwich in which just like subway, you can either get a cookie or bag of chips. They have a large array of condiments that goes beyond the normal hot sauce, mustard, mayo, and bbq sauce standard that most sub shops carry. I've tried about 4 subs on the main menu and I have yet to be disappointed.They have a pretty awesome italian sub that is an actual italian sub - which is actually harder to find than one might think, especially with the large amount of sub shops that are in El Paso. Having lived in New York for 4 and a half years as a cadet at West Point, I've learned to appreciate a good sub shop and this place brings me back to my college years. Its no Boar's Head, but it's quite delicious. But I will say that Firehouse Subs tends to focus on hot sandwiches although they do have a couple of cold cuts (Tuna and Momma's Chicken Salad).
