Yes, you can always make sandwiches at home, but Firehouse subs does such a great job when you don't want to do it yourself! The sandwiches are always delicious and honestly not too bad price wise. Their sandwiches are always stuffed full and if not too hungry, a medium sandwich can last me two meals. The servers were so friendly, asking me which order I was waiting for when I walked in (as I had put in an online order). So they could keep me updated on how soon I would receive my food. I did have to wait a bit for my food but that's just because I ordered online right before I walked in. And the time I actually got my food was pretty close to the apps estimated completion time. I also love that when they packed my sandwiches, they made sure to keep the pickle separate from the actual sandwich so that the juices wouldn't make my sandwich soggy. read more

I placed my order with no problem. I paid for order and waited. An order was given to a person who left the store. The young lady ran after him to retrieve as he was the wrong order given. You can see where this is going. She runs back in and says stopped him. She goes through the bag and calls my name. I said I have to take an order given to someone else who went to their car. She says yes, he did not eat it. I checked it out. It appears untouched. I grabbed the back after disagreeing and left. I trashed the order and went back to work. The first time I ordered from them, I wasn't impressed. My bread was super soggy. Since then, I haven't had an issue and order from this location periodically. I enjoy the sandwiches here with the Sorenson's sauce. My go to is the Hook and Ladder. I typically order in the app. I have learned to order well in advance because they typically take quite a while. I show up about 10 minutes after I asked for it to be ready. The other thing I have learned is to check my bag because it's hit or miss if they include your chips. I will say that the people there are super nice and will kindly fix any issues I have had, including letting me get chips that were left out the next time I go. read more

Ok two things. One bad and one good. Good First: Best tuna fish sandwich I have ever eaten. Cheese, tomato, some dressing, and some type of green. Whole wheat bread which was fresh and delicious. The friendly staff made the best hook and ladder we've ever had at a firehouse it was slightly warmed with sufficient flavor and a good pickle on the side with our ice tea it was a great lunch. Went there because my reward points would expire unless I made a purchase. Cashier didn't know how I could use my points to get one of the sandwiches for free (I had enough points for free sandwich). Didn't know what to do so that I got credit for my large purchase, either (necessary to prevent expiration of points). I love subs! I made a review last week about the firehouse subs located on McNeil Drive. I was not happy and in the end did not even get a sandwich! So today the same friend and I went to the Firehouse on Cypress Creek. His sandwich was made wrong (he refuses to eat mayo hehe) and we went back. The staff was incredibly understanding and remade him a delicious sandwich! My sandwich was also very delicious. I just want to highlight the staff at this location. I will be back. I know I'm in the minority but these sandwich don't thrill me. I ordered the Smoked turkey steamed sandwich. Meh. Yeah, sure the meat is real and the toppings fresh. Unfortunately nothing WOWed me. The toppings are just the usual array. The dressings are nothing to write home about. Okay, so their claim to fame is steamed sandwiches. You can tell that firehouse subs values customer service and value. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a 'welcome to firehouse!'. The sandwiches are affordable and tasty. They steam their meats which brings out a distinct flavor and makes their sandwiches taste different than the other competitors. The staff is friendly and everything was delivered to our table quickly. You really can't go wrong. Pick what you like and tell them what you like/don't like. They have a ton of different sauces to go with the sandwich. The drink machine is one of those all in one soda machines. Kids love this place. The do a lot for the community and charity. Been awhile since I visited this restaurant. In these current times, any restaurant I have visited have made sure their employees have masks. I was surprised that no one working here was wearing a mask. The owner informed me masks are not required. I've never been a sub lover, but firehouse turned me over to the sub side. Firehouse was supposedly founded by firemen and I like the fact that they donate to first responders' equipment. There's a plethora of meat based subs to choose from, but I only have the one veggie option that I thoroughly enjoy. The one thing that I do appreciate about this sub is that it's a hot sub, most ingredients are sautéed before they're put inside the bread. The veggie traditionally comes with a selection of onions, lettuce, mayo, cheese, and stuff like sautéed mushrooms, sautéed green peppers, pickled jalapeños, banana peppers, peperoccini, olives , tomatoes can be added to the sub. There's also an option to add sriracha sauce but don't do that. I'll do you one better. They have a TON of hot sauce to choose from, ranked by spice on a scale of 1-10. My pick is the 9 habanero green salsa, the 5 peri peri and of course the 6 gator sauce that's just packed with flavor. I've noticed that service is erratic - the lunch manager is really good about customer service , sometimes the evening sandwich artists are much less enthusiastic. You can opt for a medium or a large sub, comes with pickle and can be turned to a meal with a drink and chips. The cypress creek location is never jam packed and that's a good thing. read more

I personally like roast beef with sauerkraut and a little horseradish sauce, but I got some strange looks from the suburbanite slackers and high schoolers that work there. "Hey you guys have good subs" me said. *silence* "Will you be opening another here like downtown?" Since I like to have a sub after walking the dog at Pease Park. "No. We have no interest in being in town!" Damn! You act like you are afraid of money or something. Maybe just an aversion to serving Longhorns? Or is it that folks are just too "liberal" in the downtown area. Well the attitude says it all. I like firemen, they do a good job when they are needed as far as public consensus goes. Chicks think they are sexy. I watch the show by Dennis Leary. Blah blah blah. But since when are they known for making good sandwiches? Worst customer service. Rude,conniving and useless manager. They had one chance to correct a mistake and they failed miserably. I ordered a turkey chili about two weeks ago with 4 of my co-workers. I paid for it but did not receive it. Big surprise! I guess it just got lost in the shuffle, which is fine. I called to let them know that they forgot to give my co-worker my only order that I placed with them. The girl on the phone laughed and said "if you come back we will give you one for free"?!?! Uhm correction I already paid for it. Try again. I told her why would I get something for free if I already got charged for it, she then offered me a free sub next time that I come in. Because the work day was ending and firehouse is out of our way,(It's about 3 miles from our place of work) I told her I would have to come again within the following week. Today I craved a sub. Called it in. Was put on the phone with the manager, ordered a lrg Italian, she never mentioned the chili, I asked for chips then asked if they were going to charge me she said yes. I asked why. She said "it will be significantly cheaper"?! Whatever that means, fine, agreed to pay $1.7ish for chips. Went over there. Walked straight to the register. A boy from the sandwich line stepped off and up the the register and asked the original cashier to step aside. He rang me up for $3.79!! What the heck! I told him that the manager said I would only be paying for the chips which is ridiculous anyways, he said I'm paying for a large sub, and that I was only promised a medium. Ridiculous. I was never told that I was only promised a medium and the manager never bothered to tell me either. Nor did she give me the total over the phone, I didn't think to ask because she said the bag of chips was going to be "significantly cheaper" therefore I assumed, like a fool obviously, that I would only be paying for chips. He smiled creepily at me the whole time he was ringing me up, like he got pleasure out of not making me a happy customer. I didn't feel like yelling or wasting another minute in that hostile environment. I mean the manager did not check me out, no one apologized, they had one chance to make it better. The manager also mocked me, when she asked over the phone the pick up time she put on the order ticket"like 10 mins" which is the time I gave her(sorry I didn't want to say 4:33) since it takes about 10 to drive there, like a fool she forgot that the sticker gets put on my bag. I have the picture which I will share. They made the sandwich with pure hate in their heart and it tasted like it also. It was soggy when I got back to work. Disgusting. Now they lost my offices business, which is roughly about 30 people. We will never eat there again. Anyways this was a waste of time writing this. It's a friggin sandwich. I feel dumb taking the time to write this but the feeling that I have for that place is only comparable to that feeling of amazement and hatred when you find out your significant other is cheating on you. Is it a coincidence that this Firehouse Subs is a block from a real firehouse? Probably. It's also right across the street from the Cypress branch of Austin Community College, and around the corner from the Milburn soccer fields, a couple of schools, and about a dozen kid-oriented businesses. Maybe that's why it's always crowded, and why they don't seem to have to try very hard. It's not Thundercloud, that's for sure. The sandwiches are okay: the bread is fresh, and according to my daughter, the meat is fresh. But the lettuce and tomatoes is that shredded iceberg variety with a sickly pink tomato slice thrown in for good measure. And the veggies on the only veggie sub option consist of soggy mushrooms, onions, and green bell peppers that taste like they're sauteed in oil and vinegar. My sandwich was dripping so much oil that they served it in a Styrofoam container. They do have the good kind of chips (Vickie's), and a good variety of those. They brag about having 140 different soda choices, and those are served via a space-age machine with a touch screen. I opted for unsweetened ice tea. Kudos to the firehouse for having real lemons and limes, even if they were a bit dry. Two sandwich combos (with chips & fountain drink) came to $17 and change...not cheap. The tables in the meager eating area were packed and the noise level high, so if you're in a pinch and need sandwiches to go, that's a better bet than planning to eat there. I'm not sure if they were expecting to close early, but being in the food industry that isn't something that happens. Unfortunately, the next time we want a sub, we will either be finding a different location or just a different restaurant in general. A friend lives in the area and took us to Firehouse Subs for dinner last weekend. We really did enjoy our meals and were surprised at a few things: -the quality of meat is awesome -they don't stuff your sandwich with tons of lettuce/tomatoes, it's actually mostly meat! -the bread is good (not too thick) Down sides? -the people working there seemed like they didn't really want to be there -the price is a bit high, BUT, I will say for the quality of meat, it's worth it I suggest you try it and I think if the staff seemed a bit more, um...ALIVE...I would have given it a 5. Unfortunately, I keep walking in this place at odd times where it seems like the "perfect" off time to miss the crowd but find it next to impossible to get a sandwich and go in less than 20 minutes. The last two visits we were overrun by a soccer team and a cheer squad. Instead of making sandwiches for individuals and then assigning staff to work on the large groups they focused on making the 20+ multuplied by 2 groups subs first while the rest of us patiently and impatiently waited for ours. The first time I could have written it off as a freak occurrence but the second time it felt like a disorganized conspiracy. I let the others who ordered in front of me do the yelling and show verbal dissatisfaction. I just watched the clock and waited for my name to be called so I could make my escape. I've always believed that if you eat somewhere a thousand times, you're fully qualified to write a review. I have not eaten here a thousand times. I've been here a bunch, though. I always get the same thing. So if you really want to know the ins, outs, and whathaveyous of the Engineer (turkey, mushroom, and swiss sandwich), I'm your guy. This thing is not going to blow you away. You're not going to call your Canadian pen pal to tell them to get a passport and a plane ticket because you found something incredible. You're not going to take out a second mortgage and sell your car to start an exact duplicate restaurant called Wiremouse Subs on the opposite side of town because it's a sure thing. This is a national chain sandwich for under $6. Set your expectations accordingly. That being said, it's pretty good. It's served warm, the ingredients are all solid, and you get a pickle. You know what I hate? When you go to a sandwich place and they don't give you pickles. Who does that? Awful people, that's who. Don't worry, these are not awful people. They're nice people, actually. When you walk in the door, they all yell at you, "Welcome to Firehouse!" Yeah, it's not the most sincere thing in the world. And it makes Firehouse a poor spot to seek sustenance if you just set your boss' house on fire and you're laying low for a bit. But it's nice to feel welcome. Like I said, I always get the same thing. I've sampled most everything else on the menu, and the Engineer is my favorite. Well, the meatball is technically my favorite but I try not to indulge.
