Ate at Firehouse in Normal the other night with my partner and a coworker from out of town. Firehouse definitely has its pros and cons...and I'll look at both. PROS: -It's in Uptown Normal which is always fun to visit and unless you are severely handicapped or insist on parking RIGHT outside the door, parking is NEVER an issue in Uptown. Plus you can go to Emack and Bolio's for ice cream after dinner. -CHEAP beer. It's not as cheap as $3 pitchers on the weekends at Elroy's, but the beer doesn't taste nasty either. We sat on the restaurant side (more about that later) so I didn't see the full range of beers but from what I hear it's decent. -The pizza ROCKS! We ordered two pizzas, a medium taco and a medium BLT. The Taco Pizza honestly wasn't half as good as Casey's taco pizzas, but it held it's own. The BLT Pizza, which I don't think you can find anywhere else in Blo-No. The sweet sauce is excellent and the crust is a little bit more cracker like than Monicals (didn't have the deep dish or New York style crust). My partner is not a big pizza eater but said we'd be ordering Firehouse once a week so I guess that's a seal of approval???? -TVs: Lots of them. Each booth has it's own TV you can change to whatever channel you want (on the restaurant side). I wish Elroy's would do this but I understand the drunken frat boys on Thursday/Friday/Saturday make this impossible. CONS: -Service was definitely lacking. Firehouse seems to hire the tall blonde girls who can't get hired at Pub II. They also seemed to have two girls working a busy dining room and I'm guessing they probably had to work the bar side (the old NV Ultra Lounge) also. We ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and they came out after the pizza did because "the kitchen screwed them up". How do you screw up mozzarella sticks? FAIL. -The dining room is a little odd and has no flow with the bar next door...but that's the fault of the people who designed the failed wings restaurant and failed NV I guess. Overall Firehouse was good and I'll definitely go back. They should also bring back the outdoor seating NV used to have since Uptown is a great place to sit outside. read more

Tried for first time and was disappointed. Customer service was poor, pizza took 1hr and 45 mins. Forgot sour cream and pizza was cold. Not happy and no call from manager. The only thing I regret more then paying money for cold average Pizza is being a little rude to the delivery guy.. I apologized to him and want to say sorry again! Just got a call from manager Zach. All I can say is a very professional manager and more then made my decision easier on whether or not to try again.. We will try it again based of the phone call., Thanks Zach!! read more

I've only done take out - but their new york style pizza is some of the best pizza in Bloomington/Normal. I do like thin pizza too - but not the cheese on a square cracker that you find at several other pizza joints around town! read more

I came here early for dinner and a beer, around 4pm since I was on ET time. Place is cozy and the service was friendly and attentive. My pizza was AMAZING! I did the NY hand tossed with sausage (not frozen!) Pepperoni and peppadew. Hard to find peppadew as an option around me so I was super excited. Great crust and toppings. And the beer options range to please all palates. Great pizza place! read more

I recently had a bunch of people over... we ordered a bunch of take out from here to keep us going for the night. One of us order Buffalo Wings, another ordered Chicken Fingers and the last ordered a Margherita Pizza. The outcome was this, from my opinion: rather generic Buffalo Wings. They're nothing to be impressed by, but they were tasty. I wouldn't suggest going out of your way for wings here. The Chicken Fingers? They were chicken fingers... not much to go crazy about. The Margherita Pizza? Pretty good. Very flavorful and the veggies popped on it. It was a well prepared pizza that really made the whole order worth it. It didn't taste generic or boring, but rather tasted like someone put love into making it, rather than the other two items in the order. It helped me realize that the pizza they make it their specialty and that they really shouldn't be judged by their other aspects. They are, first and foremost, a pizza place. Much love to them. read more

We were in town to do some business and wanted something quick to grab for dinner. We ordered several small pizzas and a few appetizers, everything was great even for takeout!! We would even make the trip back just to eat here. Great job!! read more

This place was ok. The service was adequate and their beer selection was kinda weak as they didn't have any of the beer I wanted. The pizza was pretty good though, but I found it kinda pricy for what we got. read more

Not a bad place, service was good, pizza was decent and extra thin and crispy. pasta was served in a bread bowl shaped like pizza that was unique, the price on beer and alcohol was what you'd expect in a college town filled with fake I'Ds really cheap, wings weren't that good but the onion rings for starters were good. read more

Beat pie in town and it comes out quick and tasty. You can find a cheaper pie, but you get what you pay for! Out grandkids love pizza after the Children's Discovery Museum. TV for nearly all table. read more

Love Firehouse pizza. Nice thin and crispy. Great beer selection as well. You can choose the more family centered side that's set like a traditional restaurant or the bar side which is more fun. Had a few of the appetizers as well, the Bosco sticks are awesome. For me if a pizza place has quality sauce that makes a big difference, they have really good sweet sauce. read more

Food was on time and service was great. the server was friendly and made sure I had everything I ordered. The calzone was great! The pizza bread was ok, it was a little cold and I wished I had ordered garlic bread instead, the sauce was sweet but I know some people like that. read more

We had the lunch buffet. My gripe is that they were understaffed. The salad bar was never restocked in the 45 minutes we were there, and was out of a lot of items. Pizza is fine. read more

Their chili-lime wings and their well on its way thin crust pizza salvage what was several horrible dining experiences. Their service is just horrendous; down right worthless. I've been here a handful of times since they are so local, have a great atmosphere and they do my favs (pizza & wings) justice. Yet, everytime I go in person, they just have epic failure in their service. From getting orders wrong, to waiting 45 minutes to get our first drink on a Friday evening- when there are four empty tables. Yikes! I ended up walking out after my appetizer the last trip- 1.5 hours later. Not what I'd expect from a place at 50% capacity on a Friday night. I hope they turn it around, but based on several poor outings, I can only muster a carry out if friends demand we go again. read more

Ordered a large takeout order and it was perfect. Pizza was great and salad was fantastic. The wings were just okay which is why I gave 4 out of 5 stars. If the "extra hot" wings would've been remotely hot I would've liked them better. They were very mild. Enough about that. The service while waiting for my food was excellent read more

Ordered delivery.Worst pizza ever! Most of the pie seemed to morph into the cardboard box. Threw more than half away. On top of that, was charged 5 dollars more than the total on yelp. I will never spend a cent at this place again! read more

Excellent pizza, great brews and televisions. What else is needed?? Friendly staff and regulars make it fun and comfortable.

I have eaten at Firehouse Pizza 3 times, and I am chomping at the bit to go again. I LOVE their pizza ~ thin crust is my favorite. Service has always been great too. I cannot believe they are only rated a 3! read more

The place itself is spacious, decently decorated, and might be fun on a Friday night. I saw a few complaints about service but it was just fine at 2 in the afternoon on a Sunday - though take that with a grain of salt, it wasn't very hopping at that time. The breaded mushroom appetizer was uninspired, but you're generally not amazed by a place's appetizers. The bar selection is decent enough - not the best, but it'll do. They're nice enough to offer samples for the uninitiated. The pizza, which is why you go to a pizza joint, is actually pretty good quality : not sure if I'd call it the best ever, but it was cooked well and tasty. We got the Firehouse Delight (Sausage, Onion, Mushroom, Green Pepper, and Pepperoni) with their 'garlic sauce' instead of standard pizza sauce, thin crust and crisp (they square cut the thin, it's a fair representation of Chicago style pizza). We also had their Chicken Spinach Alfredo, regular crust, which was tasty too. I'd eat it again. read more

Amazingly scrumptious pizza! Pizza that raise the roof. This pizza is one that stays loyal, puts a ring on it, has a career job, comes home and makes dinner, and even helps raise the kids. Don't let this pizza be the one who got away. read more

Worst service I have very experienced. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks. The server never came back to take our order, just assumed we wanted their lunch buffet. We did not. Once we finished our food we had to flag him down to get our check and he couldn't remember what we ordered. We had to tell him, and he still got our check wrong. Then I had to go to go the bar to pay because he never came back. I love the firehouse pizza and frequent the one in Morton IL, but I dont know how this one stays in business. We will NEVER go back. read more

DON"T EAT HERE! GO ANYWHERE ELSE! We had a bad experience here a couple years ago and decided to try it since our friends thought it was great. After waiting 45 minutes for kids mac and cheese, calzones and some wings, we left. They said our food was coming right up, but they delivered a deep dish pizza to people that arrived well after we did. I paid for our beverages, tipping way more than I ought to, just because I was tired of waiting and wanted to come home and WARN OTHERS to DINE ELSEWHERE. read more

What a joke. I wish I could give this place zero stars for having terrible service, thinking it is acceptable to deliver a cold pizza over an hour and a half after ordering, and botching the order so bad that it was inedible. read more

Great food. Generally terrible service. Takes an hour for a carry out pizza to bake! They don't answer their phone----just goes to voicemail. I wish the service was better since the location, food and atmosphere is top notch. read more

If you place an order for pickup, be sure to check everything. I ordered Bosco sticks with marinara and received no marinara. Definitely a sad situation when I arrived home. On top of this, the thin crust medium specialty-type of Buffalo chicken pizza will set you back twenty dollars. If I felt so inclined, I could finish that pizza myself, but to be fair, I do not see a Buffalo chicken pizza at every pizza place. I could buy five decently tasty frozen pizzas and frozen Bosco sticks at the grocery store for the same price as my entire meal. If you need the convenience and can dine inside the restaurant, I would recommend doing that. The pizza and Bosco sticks tasted fresh, but the bacon used at Firehouse tastes like hot dog. Also, the staff is friendly, which is a big plus. read more

I have been a semi-regular (twice a month) visitor to Firehouse for several years. Tonight was absolutely my last visit. Though the pizza is good, it's not the best in town and not worth the wait. The service is inexcusably slow both food and drink wise. read more

I WANT to love this place. The pizza here is really good. Two complaints: They took the pigs in a blanket off the menu. It was great. A natural skin hot dog wrapped in pizza dough and baked. Please bring it back. Also....your service has gone downhill in the last 6 months. Fire the twitty college girls who get my order wrong because they are too busy chatting with their pals. Replace them with the twitty college girls who CAN remember that I ordered a small cheese pizza for my kid and not the pasta bowl. I really want to believe in you guys because I like your food. I'll try again but there is only so much of your wait staff I can stand. read more

While this was my first experience ordering from here, we placed a large order to feed 25 people mid-day for later that evening at 9pm. We were told to call back after 5 to pay by card as that's when they actually begin delivery's. When we did so, we were told that we never placed a food order and we were left foodless for 25 people for over an hour and a half due to this oversight. This was extremely frustrating and embarrassing for the people we were hosting. read more

I'm on the road and finding a bowl of pasta is impossible, which why this is better than the normal taverns in the area. They have pasta! And a very broad variety of pizzas. They also have lots of craft beers (even 2 Nitros). And a full bar. Environment is tavernish but nice furniture, kind of confused place- at one end theres what appears to be a stage but not used. 2nd floor is blocked off but that gives the place height. For me the pasta is why I'll return. read more

Not a good place for families with kids. Service was slow and miserable. Food was just ok and our 312 beers were warm.

The pizza is alright but the service is terrible. Every time I go I am waiting around for 20 minutes just to get my order taken and then when I finally do, it's another 45 minutes just to get my food. And when it comes to a check, I had to walk into the kitchen just to find my waitress. I do not recommend unless you are desperate. read more

SLOW. SLOW. SLOW. SLOW. I've now been there four times in the past few months, and the pizza is delicious but the service is awful. I generally have to wait about 1 hour to get drinks and if I get my food and check in under 3 hours it's a small miracle. The problem is I really like their thin crust (the sauce is yummy), and I crave their honey bbq wings like nobody's business. The service is always polite, apologetic and painfully SLOW. One time I was there with a group of 5 friends. We were seated by a family who was there before us and was still waiting for drinks and menus when we ordered our food (the mom got frustrated and snatched the menus off our table - out of my hands! - while the server was writing down our order). They got their pizza when we got our checks (almost 3 hours after we were seated). On the other side of my group was a group of drunk college students who kept screaming and then laying down on the benches (they took three of our chairs when we went to the restroom and wouldn't give them back). The staff seemed completely unconcerned with the constant screaming and disruption - and continued to serve them pitchers. This was between 5:00 - 8:00p on a Wednesday. I'm now to the point where I just can't justify giving Firehouse Pizza money anymore, and hope that no one else will until they get it together. It's like rewarding very bad behavior. The next time I crave thin crust I'll head over to Lucca in Bloomington. Better value and they know how to train their servers. Oh, and I got their delivery once, but it took forever (big surprise) and the crust was cold and soggy. Never again. read more

When the pizza is good, it's really good. Unfortunately, they only get it right about 1/4 of the time. Beer selection is just okay. Service is terrible. Tonight the bartender acted like it was my fault he couldn't break a $100 bill taking the glass of beer off the bar, instead of maybe offering to hold the bill for a tab, or explaining how to break the bill at the poker machines 10ft away from the bar, like another patron did. read more

Nice location in Uptown Normal but the pizza is just ok. The service does not quite rise to the level of "ok." The waitress and hostess were pleasant but the service level was simply below par. I have to think the issue is with ownership or management as the staff seems to be made up of nice, friendly people. In todsy's climate of high customer expectations, the location is what keeps this restaurant afloat. read more

Tonight we ordered a pizza to be delivered at around 6:30 pm with an estimated delivery of 75 minutes. At 8:00 pm we called to check on the status of our order and to see if it was out for delivery. Long story short, our order never was delivered at all. If you're in the restaurant business with the option of delivery you should ALWAYS have a way to contact the driver which they apparently had no way of contacting their driver. In addition, if a customer calls well after the order was supposed to be delivered, you give them the courtesy of seriously looking into it to rectify the situation for the customer as opposed to simply telling the customer to wait just a couple minutes because the driver is out. We are both very patient people in nature, but when you wait till almost 9:00 and you ordered at 6:30, this is flat out disappointing for an establishment that prides themselves in a quality restaurant experience. read more

Pizza was OK, but the service took absolutely forever. God awful. Took at least 20 minutes just to get drinks (and not even beer, just a fountain soda). If it's going to take this long to get food, you'd expect something better, but it's not. Disappointing. read more

Just to start...love the name! I went in on a late Sunday afternoon. Not very crowded but a I can see this placed bringing a great atmosphere. They have a lot of craft beers which isn't my taste but that's ok. I couldn't resist the $1 PBRs. I had an 8" pepperoni & cheese. This thing was cook to perfection. I'd definitely go back here in a heart beat. read more

Service is a 1 star and food is a 3, which is why I put it at a 2 overall. Pizza was pretty good - a little over priced for what it was. Beer is fairly cheap, however we were served in plastic cups like we were at a kegger, not at a sit-down restaurant and paying over $25 for a pizza. Decor is nice, same setup from when it was NV Lounge. Bathrooms are a little tucked away. The really terrible thing was our server. She was the worst at serving! She was not rude, however took forever to get anything - napkins, silverware, our drinks, and especially our pizza. We waited about an hour and 15 for the pizza. She did apologize a lot for the time it took for everything, however her many apologies don't make up for the fact that it took forever and it was a very stressful meal. Also, when she served the drinks she held them by the top rim of the glass! That gets everything that is on her fingers (money, old food, others germs from their dishes she touches, etc) right on the place where your lips go! Disgusting! After waiting so long for everything we asked for (and we were just looking for the basics, food, drink, utensils) we decided that it may have been a better choice to run over to Prime Time Pizza across the street and grab a slice, at least there you pay for what you get! read more

We have been here before, however, this time was different. We were there on a Wednesday from about 5:30 - 7:00. The whole time, we were one of two tables. We were very surprised. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a second one with multiple toppings. The pizza was just okay. Not as impressive as in the past. With it being right next to a college campus, we expected it to be busier. Also, the quality has slipped. Even two teenage boys commented that it didn't taste as good as before. Not sure if/when we will be back. read more
