Came in for dinner after being a regular at the one in Peoria, when I lived there. The owner said this one was bigger, fancier, and busier, and he wasnt lying. Came in with a friend and ordered a Hawaiian pizza with breadsticks and overall, it tasted just as good as Peoria's (not surprising). The only complaint was tje pizza could have been baked a little longer, but overall it was good as usual. The breadsticks were good as always, light and airy, and full of goodness. We came here as a pretty group on a Tuesday night. This pizza place seems to be your typical college pizza joint, sticky tables and floors, pitcher of water and plastic cups. They have a decent craft beer selection as well! They had a blind pig IPA.....which was not the blind pig IPA from Russian River. It was a good IPA none the less! As for the food we ordered the bread sticks, tater kegs and a meat lovers, Buffalo chicken and a chicken pizza. The bread sticks were your typical breadsticks, nothing specials, the tater kegs are a must try! They are a tator tot stuffed with chorizo and cheese! As for the pizza, they were actually pretty good! The crust is on point, but the toppings are meh. The cheese they use make the pizza hella greasy, but some people really like that. Me... not so much. If you are looking for a place to catch the game grab some good beers and some pizza this is the spot. Downside is that they close hella early! Came here after we arrived on the train because my cousin knew of the place. We walked in and it seemed they had been opened about an hour - we chose to sit in the bar area.. that was a mistake.. the bartender was late and not there yet (seemed they were open an hour). We waited about 15-20 minutes and moved to the other room... ummm someone should talk to that bartender :) I wouldn't stand for that. Lunch buffet is a good deal - do it!! This place was okay. The food was good but nothing to write home about. I had the thin crust buffalo chicken pizza. It had a good flavor but needed more sauce. They gave me some hot sauce on the side. My husband got the Delight pizza and he said his wasn't saucey either. The inside was small (at least the bottom floor) not sure what the upstairs seating was like. Was not a fan of the seating they just had tables and bench seating with tables, but the bench seats had no back. They did have a couple of tables outside. The service was fine and the food arrived in a timely manner. They have a limited beer selection and no listed wines (but they do have them). I think the worst part was the music. It was really low key (like didn't for the atmosphere at all) and was kinda putting us to sleep. I'd try again but I wasn't impressed. Prices were expected. read more

We really enjoy Firehouse. It's some of the best pizza in town if you ask me. No shortage of toppings, solid appetizers and one of the original craft beer bars in town. Ambiance is what you make it. They have a general "boring" dining side and a more upbeat bar dining side. We always try to get a table on the bar side. Food is consistently great and we leave satisfied. You can find me in Normal, IL a few times a year visiting my bros at school. We're usually on a time crunch and try to stick nearby in uptown for food, which brought us to Firehouse for lunch. There was a group of 7 of us. When we walked in nobody greeted us so we went ahead and put a couple tables together ourselves. Finally a waitress came to take our drink orders. I figured I was in a college town, so I should indulge in the cheapest drink special which was $3 wells. Vodka tonic it is! Unfortunately it took a hell of a long time to get our drinks, so we made sure to snag our waitress to place our app and meal orders stat (since who knows when she'd be back). We ordered breaded mushrooms and bosco sticks for the table. Both were just okay. For my meal I went with the 10 piece boneless wings - half honey BBQ and half hot. 10 sounded like a challenge to me, but I figured my brother could take them home with him. Welp, that wasn't the case. These wings were BABY little nuggets. Super small. Both flavors were good, but they needed more sauce. I ate 8 of them no problem, but they were way overpriced. I tried a couple of slices of the margarita pizza that a few at the table got to share and that was really good. Lots of tomatoes and a nice thin crust. I wasn't a fan of whatever well vodka I had, so ended up rounding off my meal with a corona because you just can't go wrong with that. At the end of the day, my experience at Firehouse was just meh. Food was nothing special and service was slow. Especially for how empty it was on a Saturday at 3 pm. read more

Disappointed. There are MUCH better pizzas in town - ala Tobin's and Rosati's. It's a great space, and great service but the pizza just falls flat. The bar area has lots of tvs and 10 or so beers on tap. We ordered the Firehouse Special on hand tossed crust (three crust choices: thin, hand-tossed, deep dish). Apparently, sausage is on ration back in the kitchen because I ate half the pizza and found maybe 4 tiny bits of sausage. The special also comes w/pepperoni, onion and green pepper. The sauce was sweet and lacked any sort of seasoning. I experimented w/parmesan, red pepper flakes and salt at the table to get a little more taste into the pizza. read more

I have read the reviews of previous Yelpers and agree with most. Yes, it is a college bar with bar food. Yes, some of the menu items are fresh frozen. Maybe they should buy a little higher quality of frozen foods. The beer on tap, Oh the BEER on TAP!!! They always have a great selection! Sometimes we go in just for a beer. I have been in a few times now and I have had good service each time. Although when they are busy they slow way down. My two cents, the staff needs to learn how to come together and work as a team. I saw a few servers just texting away waiting for the bartender to pour the beers they ordered for their customers. Meanwhile, the bar was completely full and even had a line of people waiting for drinks. There was just no sense of urgency from these servers. As readers of my reviews already know, pizza is of critical importance to my life. So when I heard a popular pizza place from a nearby town that featured New York Style pizza was moving in to a prominent spot in Uptown Normal, and that they were also going to serve beer, I was cautiously optimistic. Finally, it opened. And with no small amount of nervous excitement, we went to check it out. The space is great location-wise, and it's big. There is a two-story bar area that looks pretty chic (although the bass was thumping pretty significantly by the time we left), and then a much more ordinary (read:boring) space adjacent to it with extra tables. We arrived on a busy Friday night, and were seated in the "boring" space, which was fine. There are mini TVs at every station, which we found weird. We flipped ours off, but most people seemed to enjoy watching the Olympics. No biggie. Service staff were learning the ropes but certainly friendly. Beer selection was a big letdown. They were all light beers, plus Guiness. My husband labeled it Dude Beer. I had a Stella which was fine, but I'd love to see more interesting beers, or at least one choice with some hops. Pale ale? IPA? Nothing?? There are 3 pizza styles: thin crust which most people seemed to have ordered (what IS it with this town?), a Chicago style that looked sort of strangely limp on the sides, and then... (deep breath), New York Style pizza. The test run on any pizza, to our minds, is the plain cheese, so we crossed our fingers and ordered an extra large New York Style cheese pizza. 13 bucks. It came out pretty quickly, and it looked great. But not really New York Style in any discernible way, other than the crust being not thin and not Chicago style. It was big, cooked properly, and really tasty. The sauce is very sweet, the crust had a nice carmelization at the edge and a nice enough chew. Cheese had herbs in it so it was sort of zesty. And it was ideal to top with cheese from the Parmesan shaker. My final verdict is that I really like the pizza, but A) it's not really New York style, and B) the beer selection and atmosphere aren't enough of a draw to make me want to dine in again. 3.5 stars would be my ideal rating, but to me it's more A-OK than Yay, I'm a Fan. Still glad it's here, glad that space is no longer vacant, glad there is another pizza option, and hope the place makes it. But seriously, I still think B-N can support a true NY style or woodfire pizza joint. Maybe one day.... read more

This is one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. We had reserved a table of fourteen the DAY BEFORE our party was to come in. When we arrived, our table was not ready. They had us in three booths back to back. No one apologized for this or even acknowledged the issue. After being seated, it took twenty more minutes to get drinks and to order our food. We waited an hour and thirteen minutes for a side salad. All of our food came out at once. I didn't know this was how appetizers worked. Our booths pizza order was incorrect. When we asked about where our food was, one of the waitresses got a nasty attitude. Edit: the manager attempted to make things better which was great. Granted it was 5:00 on a Sunday in the summer, but there were a handful of tables occupied and a couple others at the bar, but with the timing factorsWorking in our favor, we had zero issue with the service we received sitting at the main bar. The pizza sauce is admittedly too sweet, seemingly mixed with sweet baby rays or similar BBQ sauce, but knowing this upfront and ordering a 'za with lots of toppings to lessen the impact was a good strategy for us as we watched the U.S. Open on a couple 40-50-inch TVs. I very much enjoyed the food, beer, and atmosphere. My oldest son and I was looking for a place to catch the final four so we stopped in. We ended up ordering two large pizzas (Chicken Alfredo and Chicken Bacon Ranch). I requested they cook the chicken bacon ranch with red pepper flake in the sauce and they complied. It was one of the better pizzas I've had. Very good! I don't recall the beers I had but they were craft brews and very good. I love the lunch buffet! My kids and I frequently visit firehouse Pizza after a morning at the discovery museum. They love it because they have a little TVs at every table and also because they can get whatever kind of pizza they want on the buffet. I love it because I can get whatever kind of pizza I want on the buffet at an affordable price and the salad bar is really good. They always have cheese and pepperoni pizza and they usually have a cheeseburger pizza and also a really yummy chicken bacon ranch on the buffet and then they switch it up I think from time to time. We have been there a few times at dinner time after riding our bikes to uptown and it is equally good but I like being able to get the different kinds of pizza because everyone in my family of course like a different kind. read more

I have no words left for this place. In the dozen or so times I've been here I have never once had a good experience. Orders never come out correctly, the staff and service is horrible. Just today my wife and I went into the barely half full dining room and stood at the "Please wait to be seated" sign for around 7 minutes. Made eye contact with both a server and the bartender and absolutely no one came or even said anything. Please save yourself the trouble and frustration. Went back to ISU earlier this week for a couple of meetings and a couple of bar trips. This was one of the spots I (unfortunately) hit. It was: 1) Move-In Week 2) Wednesday = Pub Wednesday. But the Pub II was packed and the overflow seemed to pour in to Maggie Mileys and Firehouse. Anyway, service was beyond poor. It took over 20 minutes to get a drink at the bar. I think the most frustrating part about WHY the service was so slow was because they had TWO bartenders working. Who does that during Move-In week in a college town? The poor bartenders were working their asses off trying to accomodate the masses. Also, one of the other bartenders refused to serve those who didn't tip. Like, outright said to their faces that she wouldn't serve them unless they tipped her. The other problem? They had another guy behind the bar, in a Firehouse shirt, who just stood there kissing his girlfriend across the bar. Not making drinks, not doing anything...just kissing his girlfriend. Regardless of whether or not he was on the job or not, it just reflected really poorly on the establishment. The place is also packed to the walls with hipsters and they play crappy, loud hipster music. I seem to remember it being more punky and fun when I was on campus. Some guy kept coming over to our table trying to invite us back later in the week to see his "rock n' roll" band play and then described themselves as "screamy." I think it's just annoying when people come up to you during the night and promote things by handing you a million fliers. Kick them out! Finally, NO ONE WAS OVER 21. That applies to all the bars in uptown, not just Firehouse. NO ONE. I saw a kid hand a bouncer his ID, say it was fake, ask to be let in anyway, and then LET IN. I think that was why it was just madness all over...because literally 75% of people in the bars could not have been 21. As for the pizza, I've been here before for the food and it was OK. Not the best pizza in Blo-No but definitely not the worst. Service was much better, during the lunch buffet, but then again I was not making use of the bar. read more

I can't believe this place doesn't have a higher rating. The pizza is great (and fresh), the service is mighty fine, drink prices are fairly reasonable, and they host some fantastic bands. I live about two and a half hours away, but I try to come back here as often as possible for shows. If you're not interested in live music, they also have many TVs, and some great drink specials on different days of the week and on gameday. read more

I really like the pizza at Firehouse. It's nothing amazing, but it's good, thin crust pizza. (They have other styles but thin is the only one I've tried.) I also like the loft area above the bar to play some darts and hang out. However.... The service here is always pretty awful. It's really slow, the servers are forgetful and all around not very knowledgeable about the beer lists, etc. (which are pretty good, too). What really made me angry last time was something probably pretty minor, but still. My bill was $38.22 and I gave the server a $50. She gave me 11 dollars back for change. I'm probably too non-confrontational because I let it slide and still tipped her over 20%, but I'm still salty about that. I mean, I can see rounding down, but this was some weird rounding. I WANT to love this place. The pizza sauce is sweet and just the way I like it...but the service plain old sucks. The atmosphere fits in well with the Uptown Normal plan.... The foods good... but they won't stay open long if the service remains as poor as it is now. Slow to get a seat or even be greeted by an employee. Same story for all the people who entered the restaurant while I was there. Then there is a long wait for a waitress to take your order. My suggestions.. Their gluten-free (gf / gluten free) pizza is one of the best, if not only gf pizza, that you can get in the Bloomington/Normal area. And they have 2 types of crust. Both their rice and potato-based pies (pizza pies) are good. They usually have a decent cider available as well. I was excited that there was a new restaurant in this space as I had been a consistent customer of NV (the previous tenant) and spend a lot of time in Uptown Normal. Walking in I was a bit underwhelmed, not because there was anything wrong, but because there had been nothing done other than a coat of paint and a few pictures and firemans gear to change the decor. No big deal, because it's still nicely decorated. There were televisions at all of the booths, which screams sports bar, but you can always turn them off if you want. The menu was fairly basic, pizza and pub style appetizers, and there were primarily domestic beers available (Coors and Budweiser products). The food was priced a bit higher than places in uptown Normal and downtown Bloomington. We tried wings, cheese sticks and fries along with the deep dish pizza. The wing sauces were very tasty with a nice variety from mild to XXhot. Other than the wings however, the rest of the food was basic. Nothing exceptional at all, which brings me to my primary issue, price. The pizza ($14) was decently priced but bland while the other food was priced a bit higher than nearby places like the Pub II and Lunkers. Beer was $3-$4.50 a bottle, which again is higher than local places. Although this atmosphere is supposedly a step up, the menu options are the same and the prices are definitely higher. I would not choose this place over Micheleos for pizza, nor would I come here if I were looking for bar food or to have a drink. read more
