This is a great little spot for breakfast. GIANT glasses for your iced tea or soft drink and plenty of food. The omelettes are fantastic, and so are the home fries (with plenty of peppers and onions, yum!). Parking is a little difficult at times, but that's how I knew the food had to be good when I pulled up to no parking spaces. Coffee is excellent as well. I highly recommend this spot! read more

Firehouse Cafe is another gem in Simi Valley. It has been one of those mom and pop shops that every child who grows up in Simi wants to come back to after they leave for some time. I urge you to avoid this place at all cost. My fiancé and I went to firehouse originally for lunch which was decent. We saw some breakfast entrees go by and wanted to come back and try breakfast. Breakfast ended up being a huge letdown. He ordered bacon and waffles. The bacon was almost raw it was so under cooked while the waffle was so done it couldn't be cut without loads of butter. How the hell can someone mess up bacon and waffles? He said that the waffle was tasteless once he was able to saw off a piece. He couldn't eat the bacon and never got a chance to return it since we didn't see our server after our food was dropped off, except to get the bill. I had eggs which were cooked ok for scrambled eggs but I had to put catsup, which is a crime to do, on them to create any taste . My bacon had parts I could eat but also was under cooked at the ends. My toast was cold and hard and drenched with butter. Despite better judgement we wanted to give them another try since lunch hadn't been horrible and we like to support local places. We went to dinner last Friday and while there were only 12 people total in the restaurant it took 20 minutes to get our order taken by a server who was more interested in complaining about her haircut to her table of friends next to us. This server spent most of the time we were in there at this table talking about her hair but hey that's more important then tending your table right? Then it took no joke AN HOUR to get the arson chicken plate that came with canned corn kernels boiled to death and a baked potato, and an arson chicken sandwich with French fries. If I had not been desperately hungry I would have not eaten this chicken. I am pretty sure it cooked the full hour we waited it was that dry. At one point before our food came I looked at my fiancé and said I wanted to leave but we stayed. This place needs Robert Irvine and restaurant impossible. They will survive though because somehow they have a packed parking lot almost always during the day. read more

My wife and I went for breakfast at The Firehouse Cafe based on a Yelp recommendation and it was AWFUL! Coffee was hot but a bitter industrial brew (Farmers), my poached eggs were hard boiled, hash browns were burnt and greasy and the hash which is canned was OK but nothing special. The toast was a cheap card board imitation of toast, nothing special nor remotely edible. If you prefer better quality coffee and breads DO NOT go to the Firehouse Cafe. If you are looking for an artsy restaurant DO NOT go to the Firehouse Cafe. I also do not eat pork and they do not serve turkey bacon nor chicken or turkey sausage nor veggie anything though some of their other items did taste a bit like plastic. Oh that's not a vegetable. In their defense they do serve a Turkey Patty and the waitress was very helpful to try and make my visit special offering to substitute. So if you are looking for healthy they may have something on the menu hidden from the grease loving regulars but you'll have to really search to locate it. The waiters were friendly and attentive and this was during a crowded weekend breakfast shift. I was impressed with the care they attempted to adorn at the foot of my cage. In conclusion; If you're looking for eggs over easy or an average omlette and are not particular about coffee or care whether the restaurant you order from even prepares most of the dishes from scratch then this place will fit the bill. It's reasonably priced which is a plus and has a 50s cafe feel with Firehouse decor. The Decor is about the only interesting unique feature of this breakfast turd. Went there this morning. Ordered the waffle and asked for melted butter of which I had before with No problem. This time they didn't do the melted butter and the waitress took it back- guess what they put the whole in the microwave. I got a rubbery waffle worst than a pancake. A friend had told me to go here, and I never took her advice until today. My two friends had never been there either, and both were okay with the place. This greasy spoon dive-diner was visually okay, their firehouse theme provided many filled walls of random items. The waitress was friendly, and instructed us make ourselves comfortable, and then informed us that the fryer was broken. After reviewing the extensive menu, I ordered a Cajun style omelet, my buddy ordered a turkey salad salad, and our third friend ordered a machaca burrito. Throughout the meal, a lone fly buzzed around my head, landing from time to time to taunt me. My Cajun style omelet wasn't very "Cajun" I think it had some kielbasa in there. Not sure what made that Cajun about it. After we ate, we chatted with the waitress a bit, paid the bill and left. Now that we're back at work, my friend tells me her burrito wasn't all that good, and my buddy has informed me that his meal didn't sit with him very well. But, my Cajun style omelet and hash browns landed solidly into the "Okay" range, and the waitress was friendly and helpful, so...3 stars. This breakfast and lunch diner is open for dinner on Fridays only, so we stopped by tonight for a taste. I've always enjoyed Firehouse for its breakfast, but we also had a great time at dinner. As always, the service is friendly and really jolly. The patty melt was crispy and juicy and cheesy, the Fireman California Burger was piled with Swiss and avocado and lettuce and tomato and bacon and onion, and the steak fries were really good. Went here for breakfast twice in the last 2 months. My wife and I liked it better than Old Susana Cafe. Food tastes "cleaner" if that makes any sense to you. Eggs don't have that "fry oil" taste. Slight disappointment. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now, since every time I go by its packed. Upon arriving, we weren't greeted. We stood around not knowing where to wait even or who to ask for service. I finally walked up to a girl who was ringing people up and she pointed to an available booth. We sat down and were immediately given waters and offered coffee ( they had a girl the entire meal offering fresh coffee too, which is nice considering you pay for it, why not enjoy refills?) there's really were the two stars end. Our waitress was kind of short with us and seemed hurried. It was about 11:15 on a Saturday, so past breakfast but still not quite lunch and the place wasn't super packed. I ordered the waffle which was ok, but no substitutions for the egg. My husband ordered the bacon plate, which was basically 4 cold salt logs and some nasty eggs. He also ordered a side of biscuits and heart attack gravy. By heart attack I mean there were random pieces of different meats in it. I felt like for just under $30, we couldve eaten better food at Denny's. We were not impressed and will not be back. read more

I was in Simi Valley Area for a wedding and I always start out by checking the area for a good breakfast joints...since I was going to be there for a couple days I wanted to test out breakfast. The place was crowded but we got a table in about 5 min. I decided to have Machaca rather than a traditional breakfast. I also ordered a Cinnamon roll which never came...They brought my Macahca and it looked good and the plate was overflowing with potatoes and the Machaca...The salsa that was brought was good and had a kick...but once I took a bite I realized that instead of shredded beef they used chopped up beef...something that you would use perhaps in a chipped beef which completely lost the concept of the Mexican dish. The potatoes were a little overdone. Instead of tortillas I ask for a biscuit which also never came until I asked for it. It was a biscuit with gravy. I will say the biscuit was hot and tasty but the gravy was a little weak and did not have much taste. I will try them again but perhaps we'll go with bacon, eggs and pancakes. read more

Every time we have had breakfast here, it has been great. Eggs are cooked exactly as requested, and I am fussy wanting over medium with yolk soft and white fully cooked - perfect every time. My husband loves the eggs benedict, and our friend who is a fussy eggs-benedict eater said they were the best he had ever had. Toast is not the highlight of my meal, in fact I never eat it, so whether it is good or not makes no difference to me. I have never been to a breakfast place that has good toast - always cold and buttered a little in the middle only. I overlook that. People and service is great. When I want breakfast, this is one of my first choices. Hash browns are incredible, as I always ask for them to be good and crispy. They are always just the way I want them. I don't usually take the time to write these things but today I just had to. This is my second time here. Decided to come again after my daughter's graduation. Food as good as I remember but the service was horrible. Both the waitress and the girl who came to pick up our plates had attitude whenever we asked for something. Even when ordering we received sighs when I asked questions. Place was busy but that's no excuse. Isn't that what they want, customers??? The only pleasant one was the guy waiter. Very nice, helpful and full of smiles. It's sad. OK, First of all, I am not in the habit of writing bad reviews about local restaurants--good or bad they need all the help they can get. However, in my wife and I's quest for good American food in Simi, we have eaten at Firehouse 6 times. The first time it was not bad. We were excited about a place to go in Simi for decent American food. And so it began, the next time we went the place was packed, no problem! We'll wait for good food. Two hours later, when we finally got our food, it was cold, and both orders were wrong. That's OK, anyone can have a bad night. The third time we went we were served by a not very nice, blonde waitress that not only got our order wrong, but she wanted to charge me extra for toast with the ham and eggs I ordered--she had forgotten to bring it and was mad that I still wanted it. (The real reason she was mad was because her daughter was there and she wanted to talk to her and not do her job) And it has gotten worse and worse each time we have gone. Last Friday night was the final straw. The first thing we noticed was that Firehouse has raised the prices of everything on their menu-- $8 to $9 dollars for a sandwich. Folks, this is not an 8 or 9 dollar sandwich place by any stretch of the imagination. And this is where it really stung--my wife ordered the prime rib-on special that night. I ordered steak and eggs. My steak was so raw I swear I saw it move---and not raw like rare--raw like give you food poisoning raw. And, my wife's prime rib was not prime rib, it was a slab of sandwich roast beef-reheated by frying-and served to look like prime rib. $35!!!! for both and a kids pasta, $2.75 for a glass of ice tea! Can you believe that? For this horrible quality food in Simi Valley. Never again! From now on we drive to camarillo. Skip this place. read more
