They were "unfortunately" not having bingo and when I wanted a brew they were "unfortunately" out of that too. The staff was unfriendly and did not see many games like advertised. They have a beer fridge, that isn't clearly labeled to not open, that you have to tell the staff you want something out of "according to Virginia law". Very weird and would never go back. read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars! I've never been so hungry so I could've eaten a bug over the food. All jokes aside I gave the leftovers to my dog and then he threw up. I got the popcorn chicken appetizer, it was burnt and so small ridiculous for 11$ and the sauces were the smallest containers they could've found. The grilled cheese was as hard as a rock and the cheese wasn't even fully melted. I also got Mac and cheese as a side and it was so burnt you could smell it before it even reached your mouth. So I sent them back and got sweet potatoes fries after I complained of them being burnt and they finally brought out food that wasn't completely burnt. Look at my finance's fries vs the ones after the complaint. The waitress wasn't horrible but was very depressing with her lack of a smile and did not engage in conversation at all. We get there and the music is loud, the game is on with no sound or even captioned they did have free WiFi so we streamed from our table. Came for Sunday brunch. Had the blueberry pancakes and my mom had the French toast. Both were delicious, and I really appreciated that they came with real maple syrup. I've been to Firefly twice now for trivia night, and it seems like an adequate place to get a beer. They have about 12 beers on tap. There are about 6 or so coin-operated arcade games against the wall to one side and a pool table in the middle. On one of my visits, I ordered the sweet potato fries. They were thinly sliced and came with a side of honey that I thought was unnecessary. I would not be opposed to returning for a trivia night, but there is not enough of the establishment to "wow" me into a return for simply drinks or food. read more

Charlottesville fave! Absolutely love this spot. One of the best outdoor sitting areas outside of the downtown mall. I have been here twice and have not been disappointed. We got the spinach artichoke dip which was exceptional and really unique. Creamy and rich but with more spinach than usual for a great appetizer! The Turkey Club was so amazing I got it twice! It's a HUGE portion and each time I took half the sandwich home to eat later. The side salad was another bright spot and the kalmata olives really set it off. But the star of the entire meal was the house made herb vinaigrette!!!!! This stuff is crazy good! I ordered it with my salad but ended up dipping my sandwich in it :) During my second visit, my friend had a taste and dipped his spicy chicken wrap in it LOL. It literally goes with everyone and is INSANELY good. This is a very family friendly spot and I saw all generations there enjoying themselves and several ppl who were clearly regulars who were treated like family by the staff. Firefly has a great atmosphere, unique draft beer list, and exceptional service. As for delicious food? Not so much. I ordered the veggie burger substituted with the vegan sourdough, and it tasted like nothing-no flavor whatsoever. The individual components did not meld together at all. This wasn't because the sandwich was vegan either. I've had the No-Bull patty at Bodo's before and it was worth getting. All in all, come here for the drinks and good times, not the food. Firefly has definitely become a go-to Tuesday night staple for my classmates and I. The driving factor? Geeks who Drink trivia night. But it would be a disservice to Firefly to give Geeks who drink too much credit. You can basically find GWD at different bars every night of the week. What makes Firefly special is the unique vibe of the bar. Its got old arcades in the back for a little flair but the variety of seating options, excellent rotation of beers, and better than average pub food make firefly special. I've been slowly working my way through the menu and nothing has been bad, only different shades of good to excellent. You can't go wrong with the tator tot nachos (totchos), and the quesadillas are solid with a slightly different spin. They have daily specials and some can be hit or miss (seared tuna tacos were a miss for me). But my most recent meal, the club sandwich was awesome. Very filling and quite tasty. Went for Mother's Day. The service was lousy and food was awful. We had the spinach artichoke dip. It was like a cross between pimento cheese and spinach with kraft parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. We had a great time here. I met my college-aged son here with his girlfriend and a friend of mine. We all have very different food tastes and some allergies & everyone got something they enjoyed. There was a range of customers in age and personalities and everyone mingled well and shared laughs. My friends got the pork quesadilla and the chili chicken wrap, both of which they enjoyed. I got the cheeseburger. Flavor was okay, but the meat was undercooked. I only ate about half of it, but gobbled down the sweet potato fries. Unfortunately for me, about an hour after I got home, I became sick and revisited my dinner in the restroom. I should have said something when I got to the middle of the burger and was still at the restaurant, but I was feeling queasy and just wanted to get home. I have eaten here with my wife two times, and have enjoyed the food immensely. The hamburgers are wonderful, and I had the Philly Cheese Steak special that was really good. But, the fries are to die for! Not just cooked to perfection -- both my wife and I like them very crispy -- but they are well spiced to perfection. In addition, the side salad with its homemade vinaigrette dressing reminded us of salads in much more expensive restaurants we've eaten at. Beautiful greens with a generous helping of arugula. It itself is worth coming in. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with allowing me free tastes of some of the micro-brews, until I found one to my taste. I really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere here. There are board games, several arcade games and a sofa but it was not loud or crowded when we went. I love that it is a great place for kids because you don't have to worry about them playing or sitting still for a long period of time. The food is locally sourced and there are lots of healthy options. However, I do still find it a bit overpriced. We love this place! It's not necessarily meant to be for kids but it's very kid friendly. The casual atmosphere allows for my toddler to not stand out if she decided to "talk" or wanted to get down to see the video games. Happy hour is 2 dollars off beer and glasses of wine and we can take advantage of trying the ever changing beer menu. The food is fresh and well prepared. We have had the same waiter every time and he has been excellent. I can go w my family or a large group of friends and have an equally good experience. Whatever, they could have some good options for lunch, right? Wrong. The only lunch item they had was a burger or veggie burger. I supposed soup qualifies for lunch, too. Let me expand on "veggie burger". Most of the items on their small brunch menu was vegan or veggie friendly. I am not against it, I am just saying if you are going to make regular food the minority on the menu, let's make that apparent somehow, before I go in there and get a drink before I am given a good menu. I ended up getting the burger and it was alright. Nothing special about it, nothing gross about it. It filled my stomach. The two good things I will say about the place - pretty good selection of drinks. Including both beer and liquor. And they do have old games and board games there, along with a pool table. It made it more enjoyable. Long story short - if you are a hipster, this is the place to be. Looking to get beers? This will suffice. Good bar food and beer? Many other places to choose from.
