This was a very average restaurant. The interior lighting is bad so it gets very hard to see as the night goes on. The games are a nice entertainment and a good conversation starter - there were trivia cards at our table which were very fun. The food ranged from okay to average but the drinks were terrible. The pork wonton nachos are a creative idea but just okay in reality. The vegan sausage sandwich and firefly burger were just average. The Newfangled drink was straight up awful - like a terrible Bloody Mary with chunks at the bottom. The mango margarita wasn't much better and neither was the rockem sockem. Went recently- the pretzel bites app with beer cheese was good- skip the popcorn- even for the low price of 2 dollars it is not worth it-dry, dry with no flavor. I freakin adore Firefly. I don't understand the negative reviews on here. My brother and I come once a week, have fantastic food, pull as many drafts as we can handle and go nutty on the arcade games. We stopped at Firefly on our visit to Charlottesville because it had a veg-friendly menu and because dogs are welcomed on the porch. We had a great experience! We enjoyed a variety of dishes - the avocado toast, the Gardien sausage hoagie with cashew cheese sauce, french toast, toad in the hole eggs, and a couple of kids meals. Everything was delicious!! The employees were friendly and welcomed our puppy when we got there. And to top it all off - we left our dog's water bottle there, and initially couldn't find it. A day later we got a call from the owner who was kind enough to ship it to us in Roanoke for free. So grateful! We will definitely be back when we come to C'ville again!! read more

Great causal laid-back atmosphere with finger licking good food.

I want to start by saying that Firefly came very highly recommended to us and we were super excited to go. However, based on our experience this past weekend will we never be back, which is unfortunate as both my husband and I are vegetarians. We were the only diners on a late Saturday afternoon, yet our server could not have been any less attentive. My elderly Jewish mother in law asked our server if the soup of the day was vegetarian and she said she would go check. When she returned to take our orders, she made no mention of whether or not the soup was vegetarian and so my mother in law ordered it thinking the server would have stopped her if there was in fact meat in the soup. It took 30-35 minutes for our dinner to arrive, which seemed rather a long time in that we were still the ONLY customers in the restaurant. At no point during that wait time did our server come check on us or let us know when our food would arrive. In no setting should a table EVER go 30 minutes without a waitress checking in, especially if there was a delay with an order. When our food was served, it was done so in stages. Unfortunately my mother in law consumed some of the soup before realizing there was both ham and bacon in the soup. Additionally, my meal was super salty and inedible, which was very disappointing in that it looked delicious! We never received any condiments, both those expected (ketchup for fries) and what we requested (hot sauce). Again, our server did not check up on us, rather we had to call her over to explain about the soup and my meal. Our server did apologize, said those items would be taken off the check, and offered us the menu to order something else. Again, at no point did she come check up on us until we needed the check. Ahhh, the check. At this point, there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant and we had been at the restaurant for an hour and a half. When it was obvious we were done with our meal, our server never came to clear our plates or drop off the check. Twice my husband caught our server's attention from across the room, and twice, she looked straight at him, and turned away!! Finally, my father in law went to speak to her directly about the check. When he said he would like the check, she told him she had it and proceeded to walk past him and put the check on our table. We paid for our meal and as we were leaving we received a curt goodbye from our server. I was very surprised that a restaurant that prides itself on vegan and vegetarian options and cared about customer service never sent a manager over to apologize or let us know that they will be doing things differently next time. This was probably one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had and it's disappointing, because I really wanted to support and love Firefly. read more

Stumbled across this while searching for a dive on Yelp. On vacay with the hubbie (kid-free) so of course we decided to go out and play some arcade games! Tried mead for the first time (didn't like it) but thankful for the opportunity to try without buying. Mixed drinks were great, but the FOOD...OMG the food. Had the grilled artichokes to start (ate them before I could take a pic), but they were excellent. It was Wednesday, so I tried the cider/cheese pairing which was really, really good (and I am not a cider drinker). I think this place really shines when it comes to veggies though. My portobello sandwich was really flavorful and was paired nicely with roasted tomatoes, arugula and gluten-free rosemary bread. (I'm a carnivore BTW, with no dietary restrictions.) My DH ordered one of the daily specials - pork chop with mashed potatoes and fried brussel sprouts. The pork chop was cooked well - moist and flavorful...but I have never been so tempted to eat an ENTIRE PLATE of brussel sprouts in my life! They were so, so good. Craveable even. So we came in for happy hour and a little (a lot on my end) hungry. Quesadillas, nachos, and tots came out before our eyes and we knew we needed food stat. First beers fast service, second (empty glasses) having to reach out to the bartenders/waitress for our second glass. Order food, must've been a miscommunication, because my fettuccini Alfredo came out before my husband's tenders and tots. Rudely, I ate my food before him. (A lot hungry) The bartender comes over for his third beer d/t empty glass-- and there is a miscommunication- they never applied his order of tenders and tots. Free beer on the house-fixes the temp situation. Fettuccine Alfredo was delicious and satisfying (without being too heavy, ya know). Tenders came out five minutes later and personally tasted delicious. Love the nut encrusted tenders. Tots cooked to perfection. Personally, the only negative impression I got was the fact that the staff were busy in social hour (chatting with each other) and patrons would have to reach out for requests. Went tonight for my daughter's birthday and the waitress said, "I'll bring her an ice cream sundae." We said no thanks, we're having birthday dessert at home. We like to go to Firefly regularly with our kids. It's a very kid friendly space with really good food and an excellent variety of beers. The happy hour pricing is awesome and the people who work there are, without exception, fantastic. Also, we had a private party at Firefly earlier this month and it went beautifully. The owner, Melissa, helped me plan everything. She was available and flexible and very helpful. On the day of the event, the manager, Stacey, was fantastic. She ran the whole thing efficiently and was totally responsive to our requests. All of the pricing was very reasonable and the food and drink were fantastic. Last Saturday, me and twelve of my friends went to try Firefly and play pool. We have a vegan/vegetarian and a meat eating mix of people. Firefly came highly recommended for its vegan/vegetarian and local menu. Most of us had never been there before. It was very busy but we only waited a few minutes to all be seated and situated with the pool table. Our waitress was obviously very busy with several other tables, but yet attended to us relatively quick. We all received our drinks and placed our orders no problems within minutes. Our drinks were never empty and our server was very attentive. Even though it was so busy our food didn't take very long to come out. The food did come out in stages, but there was twelve of us. We all ordered tater tots ( which are fantastic) the hummus platter, cheeseburgers, wings, ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and other small appetizers. Everyone enjoyed their food, the atmosphere and server. ( We would like to have the same server when we come back) We liked it so much that we plan on returning if not every Saturday every other Saturday to do a pool/ping pong/game food night! read more
