10/10 I loved every moment of our time at The Milkman's Bar. First, it's tucked away in a food hall so there are so many options to accompany your delicious cocktail which I loved. Second, the cocktails were super weird in the best way possible. We decided to stick with one classic and try one unique drink so we went with a whisky sour and a CBD infused cocktail - both were great! While in the Dairy Market to visit another restaurant, I came across this cool cocktail bar and stopped to check out the menu. The bartender working when I came was very unenthused about providing good or great service, but I decided to stay and give them a try anyway. I tried a couple of drinks, which were very nicely though of and perfectly prepared. The place has a decent vibe and the location is great for just grabbing a drink before or after dining at one of the many great places to eat in the Dairy Market. This place could easily be 5 stars, but since others have called out the bad service this bartender provides (he seriously acts like he's the only game in town and doesn't seem to want to be bothered) and I also experienced it, months later - It's time they fix this problem or deal with the 3 stars from just having decent cocktails, but nothing more to offer. read more

Milkman's Bar is SO CUTE!!! The light fixtures made of milk jugs are adorable. The lighting is great and the seating is plentiful and comfy. The drinks are creative and cute. They are priced like any regular cocktail at a restaurant but there seem to be some deals too. Most of all the bartenders are so friendly and have the cutest uniforms. Fun drinks and very esthetic~ The giggle eater had little liquor bubbles (I think listed as caviar? Lol). It was so cute! But the bubbles were a little too tart for me. The Strawberry Fields or Field of Strawberries(?) uncertain of the name was so good! Light and not too syrupy. Plus, very pretty to look at Overall, a bit on the pricier side, but maybe worth it for the uniqueness of the the drinks and the esthetics. Whenever we go to Dairy Market there are always people sitting at the bar, but we came on a Friday night and it was especially lively. We were still able to find seating. Bartenders are very friendly and made us drinks off the menu. Didn't absolutely love my cocktail because it was whiskey, but my roommate said it was fantastic and I believe her. She got something fruity & fluorescent blue- wasn't her top pick either, but they were all pretty to look at. Really cool spot! It's great to have a cocktail bar like this in Charlottesville. Their focus is solely on the cocktails (not so much on the food), but as they're within the Dairy Market you're not far from food if you get hungry. It can be tough because the atmosphere they're looking to create is a little less busy than the chaos of the Diary Market, but they have a small seating area in the back that's a bit walled off and quieter. The cocktails themselves are delicious. Highly recommend the Parts Unknown, and try their daily specials for something new every day! It's a bit pricey, but they are very high quality and it's really fun to watch them make the drinks in front of you. Definitely a cool place to stop for a celebratory drink! read more

I've been there twice on my own to work at one of the high top tables, once I ordered a cocktail special and another time I got a local wheat beer on happy hour special. I had several people look and ask what it was! The techniques and skills of the bartenders is just incredible, and watching them make these drinks is an experience all on its own. I believe my drink was called the Rose Quartz. It was perfectly balanced, and the foam on top was such an interesting textural element. There were nice acidic, sweet, and floral elements. The drink was strong, but not overly so. I was very excited to try this place in the Dairy Market. Very very disappointing. Slow service, the bartenders just didn't seem to care how busy they were or that they had people waiting. I asked for Grey Goose and soda and the bartender didn't know what Grey Goose was and offered me something else. The drinks were very watered down. Almost nothing in them. Disappointing cocktails. It's interesting to have a cocktail bar within the dairy market which has the feel of an upscale food court. I tried the Parts Unknown and Rosemary Julep cocktails. The Parts Unknown had a pretty lavender color, but I didn't find either cocktail to be particularly tasty. If I come back to the Milkman's Bar, then I would try a different cocktail. read more

Holy moly this place makes good drinks. Id hazard the best cocktails in Charlottesville. Their version of the Gibson with pickled purple onions in it is a favorite. Overall their drinks are shut beauticians taste as good. I can't speak to the taste of their instagramable one that comes in multiple colors with the big smoke bubble on top, but it's sure fun to watch them make it. They want payment before they serve you. I gave a 30 percent tip which I regretted because I got a substandard drink. The bartender made a half hearted attempt to fix, then retreated to the back room never to be seen again. What a fitting and welcomed addition to the Dairy Market! I must say, The Milkman's Bar really nailed it on all fronts. The ambiance is quaint and nostalgic with hints of old fashioned diners. The drinks are not only delicious but also fun, playful, and an activity of themselves! We love the versatility of the drinks and how you get to watch them being made in action. My favorite so far is the Parts Unknown (the most unusual yet stimulating sour I have yet to encounter), and my partner's favorite is the alco-seltzer (which is just as fun to watch fizz as it is to drink). Prices are reasonable for such intricate cocktails (ranging from $10-$14), and the staff has truly done an impeccable job at maintaining a clean, safe, and socially-distances environment. This place seems like it would be an awesome place for a cocktail and a beer being that's all they do. The first time we went to the dairy market and got drinks we waited about 25 minutes for a bartender to even acknowledge we existed when nobody was even there. Which we are patient people most places are just getting back on track understandable I guess. The second time we went we ordered the special which was a watermelon martini. My wife and mother could not even drink them they were so foul. We mentioned politely to the bartender the drinks were a little off and our spouses would like something different in which he replied sure you can buy anything you would like in a snarky manner. Most bars would not think twice about swallowing their pride and replenishing a patron's drink with whatever would make them happy. But it seemed as if the bartender took it personally and after we mentioned they were really undrinkable he told us to have a good day. Seems as if customer service is a lost art these days and for a business that does nothing other than serving drinks you would think they would have that down pat. I never ever complain but the treatment was uncalled for and cocktails were foul. read more
