I think the food is great and it's super convenient for me on my way home but recently I looked at my bill and I saw a rounding charge on it. They raised my bill by 2 cents so it would round up to the next nickel. I never heard of rounding till I googled it and apparently companies do this because they think counting pennies costs them too much time and money? Had dinner with family and asked for t bone steak well done. Got my steak medium at best. Waited for waiter who never passed by table again the whole time the rest of the family was eating. He comes over at the end asks us if we are ready. It was obvious the steak wasn't touched but he just asks if we can cook it some more. Everyone already ate so I felt that would take too long. We get the bill and not even an adjustment for the food returned. The steak must have been frozen when they threw it on the grill. It burned on the outside and was raw and chewy on the inside. I didn't mind paying the bill in full but as a business owner, to me one upset customer Makes me think more than 50 happy customers. They could have easily removed the steak and I might have considered returning again and giving a second chance. I hope their lack of customer service and disregard for customer satisfaction takes them far, but from experience it does not. I do not recommend this place unless u want disappointment. read more

Very good food, not so good service. If the service at this restaurant was even average I would probably give it a 4 or 5 star review (that's how please I am with the food). I've eaten in, picked up or delivered from this restaurant at least twenty times since they've opened and on more than half of the occasions I have a bad experience with the service. When calling in for a delivery or pickup there are many times where the phone rings and rings and then i get a voicemail, that's unacceptable to me; if your restaurant is that busy the owner should add a second phone line. As a busy guy I don't like having to call over and over and there have been times where I've decided to just order from a different restaurant because I was unable to reach them in a timely fashion. Then on the few occasions they actually do pick up on the first call them immediately put you on hold, the person working the phones is not very personable and puts you on hold before you even have a second to utter a sound in response, there have also been times where I've been put on hold for 2-3 minutes and then the call ends, which is obviously infuriating. Having said all this the food is always on point, I've never had a bad meal from there and the it's reasonably priced. It's far & away the best Portuguese BBQ in the Kearny area that delivers food (PICNIC in East Rutherford is amazing but they do not deliver). So if you just want some great food and don't care about the service you won't be disappointed. It's by no means a fancy eat-in restaurant so it's not the type of place you're looking to take a first date on and they do not serve alcohol. Not sure if it's a BYOB or not. If the management ever took some time to train their employees in customer service this has 5-star potential. read more

You walk in and seat yourself. I ordered and the food took over 20 min to make it to our table... the fries were soggy and cold and appeared as though they were saturated in grease. I could not enjoy them as part of my meal. My wrap was just OK, grilled chicken is not much to write home about. I find the service to be at a minimum, with the staff always siting at the back table crowding over their cell phones and talking about cars and movies. On two occasions I noticed patrons having to wave the waiter over for their checks, so now you can get an idea of service and how there is no check in once your food is placed in front of you. To make matters worse, as if they weren't already, I was asked, not really asked, told, to move my car because a delivery truck could not make it pass their already tight parking lot. Mind you, the delivery car behind mine would have been the way to go to give the truck more room, but the delivery boy was too busy looking at his phone at the back table. I brought this to the "mangers"/father of the waiters attention and there was ZERO apology for poor busy practice. Already upset that I had to get up in the middle of my meal, I returned to cold food and had to wave the waiter down for the check and a to go container. No money tip was left on the table.. but here is a real tip.... Don't ask your customers to get up in the middle of their meal to move a car because the owner(s) can not negotiate customer and business traffic matters at your own establishment. One star, and that's because YELP requires you commit to a star before posting a review. This dive of a restaurant clearly has a following...so I write this review for those who are adventurous and like to try new food, places, etc. Spare yourself the abuse of bad service. limited decor and not so good food !!! Great little place & you wouldn't think it would be that good until you walk in and the smell of burning charcoal hits you! I had the chicken which was the best item on the menu. Grilled to perfection, the skin was flavorful & the meat was juicy. The ribs here are a little different than most places. The pork ribs were a little fatty but the meat was tasty and it was a little tuff to chew. I tried the beef rib, great flavor only thing it looked like a small piece of steak which I enjoyed. The fries are homemade, they were ok. The yellow rice & black beans were a hit with me & they were perfectly salted. Spanish yellow rice has a bit more deeper flavor but the beans do more than make up for it. Overall a decent place for a quick meal & it wasn't expensive at all. I'll definitely go back to try other items on the menu. The reason for the 3 stars is because although the pork rib had a nice flavor the meat was just too chewy and there was way to much fat to enjoy. Im going back for sure just to sample other stuff so this place can have a fair rating but for now it's a 3 read more

So I was in search of a to go Portuguese restaurant that makes some good chicken, rice and fries. I drove by this place and noticed it just opened, because it looks very new. There were many prior establishments here on a yearly basis. I think firepitt is here for good. I recommended this place to a lot of my fiends because the food is simply that good and priced reasonably. I would have given this place a 5, but noticed they are not consistent with their service. I think they know their food is that good so they could care less about their service. I mostly always do pickup and noticed sometimes they include bread and hot sauce in my bag and sometimes they don't. Also, a couple of times my chicken cutlets were very dry that it wasn't edible. This doesn't happen often, but it did happen twice. Overall their food is very good, the fries are amazing and the rice is perfect. I do like this place better than any Other Portuguese restaurant in my area due to a combination of food quality and affordability. read more

I am a Boa Vista guy on Kearny ave. NO MORE THIS PLACE KICKED BOA VISTAS BUTT IN EVERY WAY. I GOT THE STANDARD CHICKEN AND RIBS (pork) COMBINATION JUST THE RICE AND THE FRIES ALONE WERE THREE TIMES BETTER THAN WHAT Boa Vista AND Boa Vista SERVES GREAT FRENCH FRIES. The chicken was so juicy and it had more of a barbecue look and taste then the average Brazilian barbecue. Someone said the pork ribs were tough on a review. They were wrong because the ribs were unbelievable. Also if you like beans get their black beans because they are great. Great job seems like a wonderful location but other really good businesses have failed up there. They have another location in Hackensack according to their website. It's worth it to just stop in and check it out just like I get on my way home one night. read more

I really like the food here but they never have Portuguese rolls and the wait for delivery is always more than an hour.

This is my last time ordering from here. They routinely mess up simple orders. No exaggeration they have messed up basic orders 5+ times. The sad part is the food is good. I'm understanding... mistakes happen. This is unreal. I suppose it's my fault for giving them another six or so chances. They routinely give me regulars fries instead of sweet potato fries (which are fantastic.. that's what makes it so disappointing). Sometimes you'll get a different wrap than what was ordered. Just now, I ordered chicken with garlic sauce.... what do I get? Naked, plain chicken breast. THE WHOLE REASON I ORDERED THIS WAS FOR THE GARLIC SAUCE. This is the third time I've called up about a mistake on a take out order and they have the gall to ask ME to come back. Excuse me? I'm originally born and raised in the Ironbound Section of Newark. I grew up with the aroma of "Frango" in my neighborhood. It's nice to find a place close by where I currently live. Service a just bit slow but not so bad. We were served our drinks with straws and our silverware came later. The place was clean and the service was very friendly. My husband and I order a full order of BBQ Chicken and two side salads. The chicken was full of flavor with just the right amount of spice. French fries were cooked to perfection with salt already on them. (maybe not good for those who are watching their salt intake). The rice was perfect. We sat in front of a TV and watched soccer and enjoyed our dinner. I recommend this place for good BBQ chicken. I look forward to going back and trying out the BBQ ribs. read more

When they First opened the portion of the New York strip was a lot larger plus a better cut(being the only thing I order) I feel now that they have a tremendous amount of clientele it's more about quantity vs quality . I get it , that's how they make money . But I would rather be charged more money and get the type of steak that I enjoy versus it being the same price and you give me some bull quality. They also have this homemade hot sauce which for some reason the drivers cannot seem to make sure they bring it with the order when you specifically asked them for multiple cups , I do not want to sound like a nagging customer but if the hot sauce does not come with my order I do not want it the hot sauce makes the steak 10 times better. I just had a rough encounter with the delivery guy who does not speak a lick of English literally took my order out my hands ran down the steps and brought my order back as I told him to wait while I call and see what's going on with my hot sauce. Now I am 35 to 40 minutes in waiting on them to send my order back with the hot sauce and hopefully a better delivery guy with customer service. The food is great just don't expect your hot sauce if you ask for it. Funny thing is I will order from here again read more

Ok, unfortunately I have to update this review in a very negative way. I have been to this place about ten times in the past three years. Usually I order pick up, a few times I have dined in. They are a bit slow but never as bad as the last time I went two weeks ago. I brought my boyfriend here and we received the worst service ever! First of all we got here at 8 and were at the counter ready to order, and dine in. The guy at the counter advised us we could sit down at a table and the waiter would take our order. The waiter got to our table almost fifteen minutes later and took our order which was a small order of chicken with garlic sauce and a rib and chicken combo. Now the place was steady but not super busy. We waited thirty minutes and noticed everyone else who came in after us kept getting their food before us. One of the delivery guys (younger guy with the hat) noticed we had been waiting awhile on his way out the door and told us he would check on our order. This was extremely nice because we did not ask him to do this, and our waiter did not come to our table once to apologize for the delay! The delivery guy told us the food will be ready in a few minutes. Another fifteen minutes go by and still nothing. At this point I am mad because no one else had the decency to update us on our food and some friends of the owner came in and were served within minutes! Now we are hitting an hour and still no food! Unfreakin believable.. So I go to the counter and ask what the hold up is. The cook says hes sorry they are busy and the garlic chicken is taking long. Why would it be taking so long??? Is the garlic sauce being flown in from PORTUGAL? So I said ok fine. Ten minutes later (1hr 5 mins) the food comes out!! Two dishes that I always order, nothing fancy took an hour and five minutes! Do you think they offered us a comp? Of course not! They apologized when we went to pay the bill for the delay. I would have been ok if the waitor had acted like he gave a damn but he didn't! I was still nice enough to leave a tip but will never go back! There service is horrible! I guess with all the good yelp reviews they have started slacking. I will go to Tejo across the street. They have good food too! Another bad thing is every time I place a pick up order and ask for utensils and napkins they still don't put it! The delivery guy is the only good employee here! read more
