For the first time in forever we got there during happy hour so what do we do? Save money? No, we order two appetizers instead of one! We always get the wings, and we got fried pickles that were part of the $5 appetizer choices, you can choose from several and alcohol specials, too. I always do build your own, you fill out the sheet from a pad on the table choosing your ingredients by category. I usually get the beef but last couple times I have ordered chicken but got similar toppings, Spinach, tomato, chipotle aioli, and fried jalapenos on toasted sourdough. Love it! For a small upcharge you can get a salad as a side, I like to do that because I can steal a few of the delicious fries from my companions. The salad is generous, spring mix, red onion, tomato, croutons. It comes with shaved parmesan, but I ask them to leave that off. The champagne vinaigrette is perfect. This is my favorite burger place, but I like that I can get a great chicken sandwich!

Hers had perfect caramelized onions, good portion size on the fries and textbook medium well burger. I created my own burger on the brioche bun with the bacon and bacon jam. Next time I might add some type of cheese maybe? But either way, it was AMAZING! The parm & herb fries were also stellar and worth the upgrade.

But Shelly's 'Smashburgers inside Midwest petroleum in Sunset Hills (at the corner of Gravois and Lindbergh across from Sunset Ford) has quickly become my favorite go-to place in the St Louis area for smashburgers. I've ordered delivery from there once and I have eaten there in person once. Delivery from GrubHub was hot and delicious. Ordering and eating moments after preparation whilel the fries and burger was steaming hot. I ordered a Shelly's double burger with cheese with the standard toppings (American cheese, pickles and mustard) and garlic parmesan french fries each time. When I ordered by delivery, I also ordered a second smashburger thinking that the burgers would be small. Regarding visiting the burger place in person. Except for the fresh grill, it's a standard gas station convenience store. There is a small amount of indoor seating however I chose to eat mine in my van so I didn't get good pictures of the smashburgers in the huge amount of garlic parmesan fries that I ordered as a side. The kitchen closes at 8:00 p.m.

Everywhere I moved, somebody needed to be where I was or they started standing in line behind me even when I was nowhere near line, when I was standing in front of the candy. Everyone is saying how great this but I think they just want to tell people that they got a Smashburger in a gas station. It really is no better than steak 'n and actually not as greasy delicious. The sign says made fresh to order but what it doesn't say is they wait till they get a bunch of orders and then make all the orders at once. That's at least what the cashier said to me. But I also heard him telling people that it would be three minutes. So the whole experience just wasn't great and we won't be back. Steak 'n Shake is literally less than 2 miles away. We got a combo and you get a large soda. We got the garlic Parmesan fries and it wasn't very good. I think in addition to getting that garlic powder on there, you need some salt and so I would say they were much more garlic forward than Parmesan. There was not a good balance. So there you go. Oh, by the way, the candy was on sale two for five, but you had to have the card which he didn't ask me if I had. But without it each one is like $3.75 with tax. That's a lot of money for candy.

We had to wait 15 minutes for a booth but I didn't mind because this place serves LOOKS. The decor was awesome! Being retired and a day drinker, I appreciate the 11 AM till 6 PM time frame for HH. It lets me day drink and enjoy lunch all at the same time. A recent visit I tried the Steak Bites with a side of Skinny Fries. My friend who was eating low-carb, enjoyed a Wedge Salad with Steak. Both of us enjoyed our meal. Another visit, I tried a different Smash Burger than what I normally enjoy and may have a new favorite. The Bacon Jam, with a fried onion, bacon jam and sharp cheddar cheese is now my Blue Ribbon winner. During the cold months, I like being able to hang a coat on the hooks positioned under the bar. It makes life so much easier. They are also great for ladies to safely secure their purses. As warmer weather approaches, I'm looking forward to bringing my four legged children to enjoy the dog friendly patio. Bartenders and wait staff get two thumbs up. They always make guest feel welcomed.

The bar itself is unpretentious and welcomes everyone. While I was dining at the bar, the rest of the diners were a widely diverse mixture. Witnessing such a vast mixture of people, adds a positive twist to the vibe of the bar. The menu is simple. They focus on what they do best and that's why their smash burger is one of the best. Being a firecracker myself, I ordered the Firecracker Smashburger. It's a single patty, with Pepper Jack Cheese, Tomato-Onion-Jalapeno Relish, Drizzled with a Tangy Fire Ranch and served on a Martin's Potato Roll. The burger was juicy and had those crispy edges that a smash burger is known for. My favorite cheese is Pepper Jack, so that was a big plus for me. The relish added that extra kick that made it a true, Firecracker. I can't enjoy a burger without fries and Jack offers long skinny fries. They had a crispy shell and a soft hot inside. They were simply seasoned with just the right amount of salt. I was impressed that the ketchup was 100% Natural. That gets a big thumbs up. When enjoying a burger and fries, a nice cold beer is always the adult beverage of choice. JN offers a small variety of craft beers on draft and three popular Anheuser-Busch products. I enjoyed a Gumballhead from 3 Floyds Brewing. An American Pale Wheat is a perfect lunchtime beer. The bartenders are personable and offer warm service. I'm definitely coming back the next time I crave a smashburger.

He said, "Yeah, they're good, but I'll tell you who has the best burger in St. Louis. No, the best burger in Missouri! Jovick Brothers! Sometimes I eat them three times a week!" In a town now inundated with great smash burgers, that was a bold claim, especially coming from a competitor, but having scarfed a double last week on their front patio, I'm inclined to put Jovick at the top of my list, too. It checks all the smash-boxes. Crispy edges. Great burger meat. Perfect texture. Not dense. Good fat - ideal amount of grease (if you don't like that word, don't come). I never believed in the smash burger fairy, but someone with supernatural culinary skill comes in the night to season that grill. And the balance of condiments is perfect. But enough of my yappin'. My wife ordered the Southsides (no tomato) with a side of fries, my daughter kept it simple with her usual plain hamburger (no cheese, no toppings), and I went with the Reuben Burger paired with loaded tots.
