Fam was heading out to dinner and discovered the place we were going was closed for that evening. What do we do was the cry! I said Franks has chicken on Saturdays so lets give it a try. OMG what a treat! Served family style with mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn, home made rolls and the chicken was so moist and tender. It was fantastic. This will definitely be on our short list for chicken on Saturdays and any other night for that matter regardless of what the special is. BTW it may be a good idea to make a res. So disappointed. We took another couple to dinner who had never been here. First we ordered a $58 bottle of wine. It was Saturday night which is Fried Chicken night at Franks. Both couples ordered the fried chicken and split. 4 pieces of chicken per order. We also ordered an appetizer and salad. The side salad came out first. Were charged $8 for the salad, which was weed type lettuce and a couple croutons. Charged an addition $1.50 for blue cheese dressing. Apparently, since it had some crumbles on top of the creamy blue cheese, that warranted the extra charge? I didn't order the crumbles. Then the appetizer immediately after. Proceeded by the dinner. No time in between. They are served family style. Mashed potatoes and creamed corn. The sides for four people was the same size as two people. There was not enough. I didn't have any because, there wasn't enough. We get the bill. We were charged a split charge of $3.00 each. Outrageously expensive for a fried chicken dinner. We had been there quite a few times for the Saturday night special and were never charged a split fee. I was sorry we took this couple to Finicky Franks. I'm sure they will never go back. I know we won't. What a shame. It was a fun place to go and sit outside in the summer. Not a good experience! read more

As soon as we walked in we knew it was going to be good by the smells coming from the kitchen.....fried chicken -moist & juicy, mashed potatoes, gravy and creamed corn that did not come out of a can. Purely based off the name, i expected Finick Franks to be a chain-like restaurant with neon signs, obnoxious musak, and polo shirt-wearing servers. However my experience at finicky franks was wonderful. Cute little restaurant with salads, sandwiches, and pizza. They also have a small selection of beer and wine as well. You really wouldn't expect this type of restaurant to be right next to a convenience store and a pet washing station. read more

I love a place where you can see the plates of food steaming as they are placed on the table in front of you! Decent, HOT food, good service, nice, cozy atmosphere, with a small outdoor patio. Something fun and casual to try, off the beaten path. My group shared the spicy cheese dip. The color and texture freaked me out at first, but once I got past that, I chowed down. I had the crab cake sandwich and onion rings for dinner. The crab cake crumbled apart pretty easily, but it was quite crabby and delicious, and served with a spicy aioli. What a little gem of a restaurant! The inside is on the smaller side and it fills up, so I do recommend making a reservation. The atmosphere is great, very clean and well kept. Started with the goat cheese/pistachio plate and it was delicious and very fresh! Had their speciality coconut lime margarita and it was the perfect amount of tequila and very tasty. I ordered the salmon salad for my main course and all of the ingredients were FRESH and they do not skimp on the toppings. It came with a whole avocado (sliced), which most places nowadays only give you a couple slices. Then we finished with the chocolate cake for dessert and that was great too. It's a little pricier, but the food is definitely worth it as you get what you pay for!! The staff was also fantastic!! Very prompt and attentive. The girl who sat us and filled our water, Brooke, was so polite and made sure our waters were always full. She and the other bussers thoroughly cleaned the tables after people left, not just a quick wipe, so it was a very clean environment. I almost forgot about Finicky Franks, when I was pleasantly reminded of how great this place is on a work luncheon. A group of 10 was a little difficult to accommodate during lunch, but I was glad they were extremely busy for a Wednesday. People just kept coming in the whole time we were there. It's obvious why they needed to expand. The majority of the group ordered burgers, the reuben was a huge hit amongst the gals too. I had the crab cake sandwich, it was very good although a little too salty. I do like how they cook it, more of a griddle searing, than breadcrumb coated. The onion rings are phenomenal. The best in the city in my opinion. Fries were great too, and everything came out fresh and piping hot. I also liked the small menu, it allows them to focus on perfecting a few choice things. On a side note, they appeared to have all New Belgium brews on tap, even the seasonals and the Lips of Faith series! Arrived at 8:10 pm- and server told us they decided to close down early even though hours posted as closing at 9:00 and we drove 40 minutes. Only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because they no longer accept credit cards (they do have an ATM inside). Took well over 15 minutes to get our first drink order and they were out 3 of the 7 craft beers thay carry. The bartender told the server he was too busy to make us a margarita. Finicky Frank's is a local gem and I'm so glad it's in my neighborhood! The owners make us feel like welcome family every time we visit. The food is fresh and put together exceptionally. I like that I can count on my regular favorites, but thrilled that every day has a new special based on the chef's whim. I've never been disappointed with the daily special or soup. First off, the parking stinks. The inside is nice. The bar is center stage surounded by tables and sort of a wall length booth. Overall and clean looking place. As for the food, I had a grilled chicken and artichoke sandwich (wanted the reuben, but they don't have real horseradish). The sandwich was pretty darn good! Full of flavor. The Oktoberfest beer was also good. You see the rings on others plates and they look so good, you just have to get them. Then they come out and I was suprised to bite into one and they are not crispy? They are kinda soft, it's strange. They do come with the good dipping sauce and I ate them all, so, not bad. Good food, great service, never a wait. This hidden gem in north Omaha is worth the distance. We love the Saturday night fried chicken meal served family style with creamed corn, mashed potatoes, gravy and rolls. However, the pizzas are great as are the sandwiches we have tried. This is where I was introduced to Infusion Vanilla Bean Blonde Ale and it's been my go-to beer since. They offer different beers and wines with each server we've experienced providing excellent reviews of any thing we might want to try. Ok, food was pretty decent. The problem was with the service. We waited 45 mins for our ticket only to find out that the computer was down. Then the manager said each couple owed a certain amount which turned out to be about $10 too much. There was no offer to reduce the amount nor any offer for free drinks to keep the party of 10 happy. Communication to us would have been very helpful. Instead we found silence and the assumption that we were happy with the night out. Also, The bar drinks were way too much. $9 for a drink that should have been $4. As for the first impression of the well established restaurant , I would not recommend this place. This little known out-of-the way restaurant is always a hit. Sort of a cross between Bistro food and home-cooking that never fails to please. My favs are: the Almond Encrusted Chicken Salad and the Pizzas, and the Escargot! But there are lots of other yummy things too. Quality is consistent & Service friendly.....and they have Sunset Wheat beer on tap! It's small, so make reservations if you're a big group or if it's a Friday or Sat nite. Finicky Franks - October 2017 I was there recently as part of a party of six and we all ordered something different. I ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich. When it came out, I cut it into two pieces. I bit into the first half and could not bite all the way through. It was gristle. I tried the other half and the same thing -- more gristle. I put the meat aside and instead ate the bun and the onion rings. My companions noticed I wasn't eating the meat and asked me why, so I told them. They said to tell the waitress, but I said she couldn't do anything about it. After the waitress cleared the table, one of my friends told the waitress about it. Five minutes later, a woman who was either a manager or the owner stormed out of the kitchen with a piece of meat on a plate. She said she dug through the trash to find it. She proceeded to tell me that there was no gristle on it as she only buys fresh meat and pounds it out herself. I asked if she was calling me a liar and she said no, but she acknowledged it could have been fat, but she was adamant it was not gristle. She said that I should have told them I do not want any fat on my sandwich when I ordered it. She proceeded to rant and rave about it, so I asked her if she always argues with her customers. She answered with more raving about how wonderful she was and how she always pounds the meat herself. After she was done ranting, she stormed back into the kitchen. I was presented with my bill -- $17.00 including tip -- which I paid. Those were pretty expensive onion rings. We all agreed that we have never been treated like that anywhere else and we would never return. My advice: Never order the pork tenderloin sandwich unless you like fat. My wife and I have been anxious to try this restaurant as the reviews were good and the concept for the restaurant seemed to go along with our idea of a nice meal out. This past Saturday we finally had the chance to go for dinner. First off, the website states that dinner service starts at 5:30. It actually opens at 5 PM. Once we were seated and had ordered drinks the waitress came and told us about the specials for the evening. One was a salmon dish the other was something she called "beef medallions". She admitted that she hadn't yet learned the specials and didn't have her cheat sheet with her. My wife asked what kind of beef and her answer was "I think it's tenderloin". I was skeptical for $18 but she went ahead and ordered it. I ordered the "breaded pork tenderloin" sandwich. We started with an order of breaded mushrooms. The dinner salad with my meal was on the smallish side and not much besides lettuce. The thousand island dressing was very good, tangy and obviously house made. My wife got the French Onion soup which was somewhat odd compared to what we are used to in this dish. Instead of the traditional piece of crusty bread sitting atop the soup there were rye croutons mixed throughout. The cheese was also mixed into the soup and not browned on top. It was also exceedingly thick, no broth really, and an overwhelming taste of red wine. The mushrooms were very good, breaded in a coarse cracker crumb and served with house made ranch. Huge quantity and tasty. My wife's beef came with smashed potatoes which were very heavily seasoned with garlic and what appeared to be a cream gravy of some sort. There was a side of spinach which was supposed to be in a basalmic reduction but instead was swimming in the gravy. Did not expect cream gravy with this dish, somehow very out of place. The exotic mushrooms were well cooked and very flavorful. The beef was rare (the server failed to ask how my wife would like it cooked). It certainly was not tenderloin but more likely eye of round or sirloin. i heard the server tell another patron that it was something called a "cafe steak" which I am not familiar with. As for my "pork tenderloin", well it was not tenderloin but pork loin. It was juicy and well seasoned but not the most tender pork I have eaten. It really bugs me when restaurants falsely name a dish for something that is not there. The brioche bun was lightly toasted and and accompaniments were fine. The side of onion rings that came with my sandwich were dry and had patches of raw flour on them. I realize that these are somehow baked instead of deep fried but they were definitely lacking in texture and flavor. We really wanted to like this place and I would probably come back to try a burger and the house made fries but would steer clear of anything out of the ordinary. I suspect that Finicky Frank would be turning over in his grave if he knew some of the shortcuts happening here. read more

This restaurant does not deserve your business. My sweet 64 year old mother was yelled at and abused after asking the desk clerk for the total bill. Her waitress had not totaled the bill, so when she approached the cashier, explained she needed to leave and asked for the total, he yelled at her that they "don't split checks"!! (Um...hello? She didn't ask for that.) She explained again that she just wanted the TOTAL. He yelled at the waitress "We DON"T split checks!!", ripped the ticket out of my mother's hand, banged the numbers into the calculator, and then glared at her as he gave her her total. Later, after writing a letter to the mgmt., she got a reply reassuring her that they try to provide good customer service, but reminding her that the menu clearly states that they don't "split checks". Reallly good burgers, sandwiches & pizzas. (My kids didn't appreciate the home-made, not perfectly round pizzas). We've always done take out and haven't eaten in the cozy (and I mean COZY) dining area. On take out orders they wait until you get there before they cook the fries to make sure you get the best experience. The manager gave my son a complimentary root beer while we waited. My first, last, and only visit to Finicky Franks was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I ordered a salmon salad for lunch. The salad included two pieces of fish. One piece was overcooked, totally dead. The second piece was still cold and completely raw in the middle. This was definitely not sashimi grade fish. It was clearly a mistake in the kitchen. No big deal. Mistakes happen. I understand. I worked my way through college in restaurants. My problem is how the mistake was handled. I told the server that the fish was inconsistent. The server said that I should have specified how I wanted the fish cooked and walked away from the table with the plate. I had maybe taken two bites of the dish. The server, plate in hand, then consulted the manager who looked in my direction and shrugged. The server never returned to the table until it was time to drop off the check. No apology and no offer to fix the issue, re-fire the fish, or amend the bill, etc. I promptly paid the bill and exited the establishment, never to return. Extremely disappointed! We love to explore new opportunities to dine out. Finicky Franks was featured on local Omaha new station so we decided to visit that evening. We tried the crab cakes - always on the look out for that crab delicacy done so well in, say Baltimore or DC. Very disappointing - way too much stuffing/breading, that made one think, "where is the meat - crab?". A bit over fried and heavy on the salt and spices, which overpowered the little taste of crab there could have been. For the main course we split the pasta Alfredo with salmon. Again, big disappointment. Salmon undercooked, skin had separated from fish and lay clumpy on the noddles - no go on food presentation. Alfredo sauce - thick cream, some shredded cheese and nothing else, extremely salty, overwhelming the taste senses; the pasta, too thick and doughy. Sadly, no visit from the manger to discuss the undercooked fish. the waitress did discount one of our salads - big whoop! On the plus side, friendly staff, clean, and the salad was fresh. read more

Loved this restaurant! My clients wanted me to take them to eat here and I am glad I did. Homemade everything! Amazing baked onion rings made from scratch. First off, they've completely I renovated...double the size, but still charmingly cozy. Second, the salads were remarkable. I had the coconut chicken salad with the lime and mustard dressing. It was the best salad I've had in a long time. Grilled salmon also won over the table...delicious and cooked just right. The dessert cake was the best though...graham crust, chocolate ganache, layer of mousse, topped with hazelnut whipped cream. We sat in silence for several minutes simply salvo ring the flavor.
