What can I say about Fillmore's Dairy Hut? It's been around forever. They are well known for thier footling cheese coney and ice cream, malts and shakes. You name it they probably have it. Service is walk up and order they give you a number. Still use paper and pen. I like that. Keeps me thinking young I guess lol. The restroom is around back like restaurant drive-through used to be. This place would be so much better if there was any consistency. I grew up around here, I know how it used to be. The kids working now have no clue what half the menu is, and when the high school lets out, it's basically a free-for-all for rowdy teens to come in and act a fool while people eat or have ice cream. Not an inviting space like it used to be. Not to mention that they're consistently closed for months on end. The were closed due to COVID, now they're closed due to the cold weather I guess? Well now I got to eat a proper meal here instead of just dessert and I was definitely not disappointed. I got a footlong chili dog which is a staple of most ice cream parlour/restaurants. This version was a pretty good one. I've had better hot dog chili but the dog was a good one and I really liked the sharp cheddar they used for the cheese to top it. I also got some onion rings which I swear were the same as Frisch's. That's fine though as I like Frisch's onion rings. Good batter and strong onions. Perfect with ketchup for me. For dessert this time I got a Cherry Slush Puppy. This was a great version of this dessert as it had great cherry flavour and plenty of syrup which is sometimes a problem with this sort of thing. I'd give this place zero stars if I could. Kids wanted ice cream after the park so we thought we would try a local place. The older lady taking my order was anything but friendly. After forking over $15 to her for ice cream she said to me "to go right" i replied no for here. She insisted that I take my order to go because my kids were being noisy. I never liked dairy bars when I was a child. They felt grimy and the ice cream tasted subpar. As an adult, I can appreciate the memories and nostalgic feeling they can have for people. I mean, where else serves foam puke fuchsia colored cups with a generic ocean and seagull picture on them? Seriously, I've never seen one of those babies anywhere but a dairy bar. Anyway, I was leaving a dinner meeting in Florence when I had a hankering for something small and sweet. A quick Yelp search yielded results including Yagoot and Orangeleaf, but I wanted something local. Fillmore's was a quick drive down Buttermilk Pike, just past Velocity Coffee House and still very accessible from the highway. The outside looks exactly how you would expect. It's an old school building with mid-90's decor and a few tables with umbrellas as old as me. No mind, I was here for one thing and one thing only: ice cream. I walked in and was greeted by a very enthusiastic teenager. The decor was nothing to write home about and was about exactly what I expected from a dairy bar. The food menu is quite large. Not surprisingly, it leaned heavily toward fried offerings but there was much more variety than I was expecting. I simply opted for a butterscotch milkshake to go. One kickass thing about mom-and-pop ice cream places is that they typically offer butterscotch! The same girl quickly made my shake. They offer mini sizes, which I think is technically for kids, but was absolutely perfect for me as my sweet tooth is not very large. I usually only want something around that 8oz mini size and I'm more than satisfied. The shake had only a slight butterscotch flavor, but was more than enough to curb my sugar craving. Their food menu was large and interesting enough that I'm thinking of coming for lunch sometime soon. If you're in the area and want some ice cream, you should definitely take a step back in time and visit this dairy bar (hut?). It'll do the trick. read more

I'm so upset. I love this place! They changed the meat they use in their burgers! They use to be nice thick Patties and now they have these flat skinny patties like McDonalds. I get companies have to cut corners to keep up with costs but this cut has really altered the food experience. read more

Fillmore's has the potential to be a true dive in the best sense of the word. A bit off the beaten path, but close enough to the interstate to attract people and an old school feel gave me hope for something special as I drove up on a cold December night. Unfortunately, I just found an old, tired ice cream stand that is likely surviving just because it has always been there. I walked in to be greeted by what appeared to be worker's friends chasing each other around the dining room on a hoverboard while others went behind the counter to get extra toppings for their food. I was waited on - notice I did not say greeted - by an obviously bored teenager who likely wanted to be pretty much anywhere in Florence except for Fillmore's on a Saturday night. The menu is very unextraordinary and laid out in front of you on one of those old school felt boards with the stick-in letters. There is nothing featured, but there are a lot of options. I ordered a hot fudge sundae with whipped topping. After I received my order, I sat down in a dining room that was very yellowed and worn - torn cushions on the booths and very dated decor. In the right setting, the dining room could be considered nostalgic, but I prefer to think of it as just old. I am sure Fillmore's is a fine place for locals to go to that don't want to go all the way out to the mall. I don't know that there is anything specifically wrong with Fillmore's, but there is nothing there to cause you to want to go out of your way. read more

A great place to eat and save money! I enjoyed this place. It's an old diner. You walk in and it's like a blast to the past. There is a lot of space and seating so it's good for groups. Got the cheeseburger. It was good. It's inexpensive so it was good for what you pay for. I enjoyed it more than some expensive burgers. It had tartar sauce which I thought was different but it tasted good. I tried the fried mushrooms. It was okay. It was really juicy once you bite into it. It seemed like it was filled with water. The service was good. In terms of speed, it was slow but there were two people working which makes sense to accommodate the lunch rush hour. They were really nice. Couldn't say a bad thing about this place. I've been coming here since I was a kid and it still feels like home all these years later. They have original slush puppies and some of the best burgers in town. The food is always good and fresh, the staff is always helpful and friendly. The restaurant is always clean. On sundays they have a car show in the parking lot and it's a lot of fun to walk about with a soft serve cone and see all the vintage cars throughout the community. Highly recommend! read more

We stayed overnight in Florence 1/10/20 at the Best Western. We asked about local restaurants and they recommended Fillmore's. It's just a few blocks from the hotel and very easy to find. We were happily greeted by 2 younger employees. The girl was helpful answering questions about their ice cream and made some suggestions. Let me preface this review by stating the 2 stars is for service only. Since 1973, when this was Reeves Drive In and they sold Christmas Trees at Reeves Tree Stand right next door, my family (in some form) have given this local business our money. Happy to do so. However, the past few years have given me pause to visit Fillmore's. Hiring teenagers can be a gamble. I was one. But I remember having a brain. In the last few years, our experiences at Fillmores have bordered on mediocre to downright ridiculous. I usually get a strawberry soda. It's soda water, vanilla ice cream and strawberries in their syrup with a little whipped cream. Not rocket science. I've been told, my husband has been told 3 or more times when we place the order, "What? Um, we don't have that." or "I don't know what that is." or my personal favorite, a boy put fountain coke in a cup with ice and put strawberry syrup in it... On Sunday night, my mom, my 2 year old and I stopped in after some shopping. I was trying to think of something my 2 year old could eat while riding in the car home, without a spoon, without a cone, when I saw that they had "prepared" frozen treats, like Trauth fudgesicles and cream pops advertised (with prices) on the window. GREAT! At the counter, the teen gal at the register stared at me. "Hello.", says I. "What?", says she. "you know,Hi, a greeting, a form of communication, an opener to a conversation!?" @!!!#@!# GEEZ!!! Just to be sure, I asked if they had the fudgsicles. Her reply? "Um, I can't let you try those because they have to be weighed individually and like, um...." she trailed off. Were we even in the same room? I explained that I wanted to BUY one, not TRY one.....and she still stared at me blankly. Seriously. SURELY there are more capable monkeys this owner/'manager could hire? Stop in a few days ago to try something new. Ordered a banana split and milkshake. The banana split was finished first and brought to me a the counter. I noticed that something just did not appear right. So I started sampling it and found there was not any bananas in it. The young girl finally brought my milkshake which was very good. I asked her if there were bananas in banana split since I'd not had one in years. She looked at the dish shed created and then back at me completely embarrassed. She offered to re make it for me.
