She knew exactly what my vision was (baby blanket made of old baby shirts/onesies). She gave me a price and then told me the materials to buy. I dropped them off to her and although I said it was no rush at all, she finished two blankets in less than 2 weeks! I was packing a suitcase and last minute decided to pack a new dress I bought, but it was so long it dragged on the ground, so I knew it needed to be hemmed. I thought about doing it myself before searching here and I'm so happy I found Marina because I was going to make it 1-2 inches too short and probably would've had a breakdown haha She told me to come right over and she'd have it hemmed same day. Marina does great work, I needed to get my suit altered since I had lost weight. I'm attending a family wedding in New York and the events planned required having two suits. I was turned away from a reputable alterations business here in Sacramento since it was too short of notice. As a Hail Mary, I posted on Yelp in hopes of getting a response from someone that could help. Marina responded in less than 10 mins. Her timeline worked with mine and we setup an appointment to get fitted. Upon arrival, she greeted me with enthusiasm and was very nice and polite. We discussed ideas for the fit and also pointed out quite a few flaws in the work of the prior alteration. She repaired the hole in the seam and altered my suit very well. My daughter found a dress she just had to have for homecoming, but it was too small. The dress shop owner said, have it altered, really easy! So, reached out on Monday asking Yelp for help. The first to respond was Marina. She said that she could have the project done by Friday. Oh my goodness! I sent her pics, she gave me instructions. I rushed to JoAnn's and found fabric that matched the color, darn near perfect. We met on Wednesday, she did her measuring, we went back Thursday for a fitting and picked up Friday! Let me tell you that Marina is great at what she does, professional and just so sweet. She was able to add fabric to this dress in a way that you can't tell. Marina is THE BEST! She is so sweet, so professional, so creative and so talented! Pictures do NOT do her work justice!!! Wish you could see it in person, and it looks better on! But I got covid and couldn't go to the event this was for so I don't have any pics like that. I had a last minute masquerade ball to attend and had ordered a dress from Amazon (I know, not making it a habit). Although the dress was pretty, it didn't fit quite right. She spent hours with me getting the best fit and came up with creative solutions to some of the problems of construction the dress came with. She took time to explain to me how corsets are created, how boning couldn't be added to this dress because of the construction of it (even though it had a lace up back) and came up with the best options for me to choose from. Quick tip--plan for extra time at fittings for something that needs more attention because she is happy to take the time needed to get it pinned and sewn the way you want it. Plan for time with the try-on as well in case you need things adjusted more. Here's some of the work she did (more to follow later in the review): 1. I had her take in the waist on the sides 2. lift the waistline to hide some of the bulkiness of the fabric they used 3. shorten the shoulder straps. Once it was all done as I asked, it was tight under the arms because of the nature of the dress and its sleeves. She explained why their fabric choice was causing me discomfort and was able to let out the under arms in just the right way, even with their weird construction. When you change one thing, it affects everything else--but she knew what to do about it. 4. She created some darts 5. and a couple hidden threads here and there and I got the lifted, flattering top and neckline I wanted with enough room where I needed it. She also explained how she could make me a much better dress from scratch next time I am looking for something special. And then you get to pick your own fabric (with her expert advice) and get exactly what you want. So yes--she can make custom patterns! And I believe she can do so for all body types--us curvy girls included. 6. She also made a custom lace jabot 7. and lace cuffs for my fiancé's costume, 8. and came up with an ingenious way for me to wear my masquerade mask with my glasses! It would take a quick day-of stitch so she showed me how to do it and even gave me the supplies needed to make it work. 9. She was able to add a way to wear a fox tail with this beautiful dress without it being sewn in permanently AND without being able to tell how it was done (or I could show off a pretty bow) 10. She also sewed on some wing appliqués on the back and has an eye for great placement. (I was a celestial fox fairy) I've never had alterations before, so I wasn't sure what to expect on price, but I was kind of surprised at how low her prices were for the amount of TIME and CREATIVITY and on-the-spot cleverness she asked. I kept asking, are you sure that's the price? lol She said I could leave her a tip if I wanted to--so please do so too if you can! Especially if she doesn't ask for one. She is worth every penny (and way more) for what she is able to deliver. And leave a review too, cause she feels too shy to ask people to and she has 5 stars for a reason from those of us who left one. Marina was able to hem my dress, lower the slit, and take in the bodice. I was able to drop off my dress on Wednesday evening and pick it up by Saturday morning.
