Parking isn't the best and they're only open Monday to Saturday but another boutique just opened in Kailua that's open seven days a week. Love!!!! Omg... where do I start?? The service is so great. Everybody really wants you to be happy with whatever you buy. They are so helpful! Kerrie is awesome! The fabric, ahhh!! So soft and durable. I have many fighting eel tops and dresses and they all stand the test of time. The colors do not fade at all! And I wear mine a lot!! The prints are so cute but the solid colors are timeless. I have found great fitting tops and bought them in all the colors. Do I have a problem? No! Because they are all wonderful!! The prices are a little high sometimes but they often have sales so watch out! These items will become staples to your wardrobe and I believe paying more for good quality clothing isn't bad. Fighting Eel is so dangerous!...Dangerously cute and not gonna lie, dangerous to my bank account. There's rarely a time I walk into this store and walk out empty-handed. This store houses quality clothing that flatters every body type. Seriously! I don't know how they do it but I've never found another boutique that comes close to this type of material and fit... it amazes me! The two main brands here are Fighting Eel and Ava Sky. I find that FE is thicker, super soft cottoney material, lots of basics and Ava Sky (costing less) is a thinner type, more prints. You'll find many unique pieces and limited prints that are exclusive to FE and easily recognizable on the street. So cute and so chic! I buy both on the regular. They also carry a small selection of other name brands, super cute jewelry by local artists, kids clothing, bags/clutches, sunnies, etc. Great store for gifts. As I mentioned in my opening remarks, FE is dangerous -- the prices here are hefty (tanks around $50 and tops around $80 and dresses and bottoms and dresses $100+) but you already knew that. I don't mind paying higher prices for QUALITY products and they carry lots of classic pieces that can be worn over and over again. The store is always so clean and inviting and they usually always have a sale section that won't hurt your pockets as bad so go check them out! Another plus -- they open 7 days a week and their hours rarely give you an excuse to not shop here! :) And wait, did I mention the sales associates here are so, so, so sweet and helpful?! Tokina and Summer are so cute, I die. They are genuinely nice and so helpful...and everyone can appreciate that in customer service. They seriously were born to do this! You never feel rushed here and these gals give their honest opinion and give excellent options as you peruse the store. I've heard so many great things about Fighting Eel and of course I had to visit. First of all, parking was horrid! Although, the shop was bright and very spacious. As I walked in, no one greeted me :0(. There were but maybe 6 customers in the shop and two girls working that day; not one of the girls offered any assistance or asked me if I was doing alright. Clothing wise, their clothing selection was a bit "limited." There were an abundance of long shapeless tube dresses. Too bad, what was advertised pictorially was not offered at that location. Sadly, I had high hopes from Fighting Eel and its customer service but neither of which was granted. I wanted to so much like Fighting Eel but I will NOT be returning anytime soon. Beautiful store. I love how the place looks inside- it's super spacious and open feeling. And I like the clothes, they are definitely my style, with a lot of solid colors and fun, flowy cuts. Okay, and I know a HUGE draw to this store is that all the Fighting Eel brand clothes are made in Hawaii, but it's all really expensive. Too expensive for me anyway. I'd love to be able to afford things here so I can spend my money but $120 for a casual day dress? That's too steep :( I love their jewelry selection. I'm sorry the brand of the jewelry slips my mind at the moment, but the jewelry is interesting; they have a wide array of different styles, from chunky to dainty to pretty to trendy. How much do I love this adorable shop in Chinatown? If I were only a wee-bit taller and skinnier I'd probably shop here exclusively. I also like that I can pop in here and get a cool gift for one of my impossibly hip nieces which shows that their Auntie has a little creativity and "cool" factor beyond a gift certificate. I always feel when I get them something from here that they'll have something the rest of their friends don't. Aaaaaaaaand if I happen to pick up a little something for myself..well, a girl's got to treat herself on occasion too. I've never been here where the girls at the shop weren't more than helpful and accommodating. This is what shopping is supposed to be: fun. If you go: be prepared to enjoy shopping again. First time visitor to Fighting Eel yesterday and I fell in love. I LOVE the stuff there. I walked in with my friend and we're just instantly engrossed in whatever caught our eye first. She wandered to the jewelry and I wandered to a wall shelf display of various items. I wasn't going to buy anything because of the prices but I capitulated, tried something on (even though I knew I'd be dead meat after that) and lo and behold....I ended up leaving with a BEAUTIFUL jewel toned green tunic-dress and a gray obi belt. So there's a bit of shopper's remorse there as I just started a new job and really should not be spending so much, but I've always LOVED that kind of style that Fighting Eel carries (basics in beautiful colors that I can dress up and down) and the fact that the fit was amazing and the fabric felt wonderful....well.....what can a girl do? :p I do love the jewelry, but decided to pass this time as the prices couldn't be justified by me (I know basics of beading and wire work so I always feel guilty buying earrings). My friend ended up with a pair of rose-gold triangle studs which look awesome! She also bought lip balm that smelled great. I was tempted but not that tempted. Yet. We absolutely adored all the belts on the belt display and while I wanted, like, 3 belts, I only bought one. Steep prices. I hope it lasts for a while. Long time. Long long while. We also fell in love with the colors on the different handbags/wallets. I was tempted to get a clutch-slash-crossbody bag but decided to pass as the functionality wasn't to my liking. All the workers were lovely and friendly, even though I was totally dressed in a mismatched combo and looked really weird (aka NOT like a boutique-shopper) and my friend was very casual. We received frequent offers to be helped without the usual pushiness or apathy you'd find in Ala Moana. That was nice. They were helpful, but not hovering. Lovely. I will be back!!! read more

This is the best FE location! They have the best assortment and size runs. The staff at all FR locations are super friendly and helpful. Giving their clothing is on the higher price side you can snag a "deal" when they have an additional discount off their sale prices throughout the year. Just sign up for their emails and you will be in the know. They also have a punch card for purchasing regular price items where you can get an additional 15% a future regular price purchase. Not the best deal but at least they are trying something. Items are hit and miss (and a lot of the same styles over the years just I different prints) but they do have some cute prints if you hit it right. read more

When in doubt, I grab a fighting eel dress from my closet. I LOVE the clothing here. Yes, prices are definitely steep. But you WILL make good use of whatever you purchase, to justify the spending. All the pieces are timeless, and comfortable. The material feels so good. The best part is that you can dress the clothing down for daytime shopping, or dress it up for dinner or dancing. I have one dress that I've used for work, AND an awards banquet. And another that I've worn to go shopping during the day, AND a fancy dinner at night. I usually stop by in the early afternoon/evening and have no problem finding street parking around the area. Whenever I stop in, the salespeople are very friendly and helpful. A definite plus. I was enticed with the Fighting Eel brand by a friend who knows the designers. She was wearing one of their creations at a get together a while back. I finally decided to go down to their flagship store in Chinatown. It's right by the Hawaii Theatre, and parking is tricky-mostly street parking, unless you want to pay at the lot close by. The store is really open, with a great lay-out. Sometimes, when I go into a store, I like to be inconspicuous, so if I don't find anything, it's a quick "hidden" get-away. But luckily, that day, I didn't hide-and really couldn't. There was a great selection of cool, hand-made belts, tube tops, dresses...leggings.... I found a section filled with rompers! They have been my new go-to clothing pieces. One piece, easy pull-ons, COMFY. Fighting eel's popular piece is their strap-less romper. But with my wide shoulders, I like the halter-top romper. The girls were really helpful and friendly. I have been trying to find time to get back there and stock up on their clothes. They are well-made, and so soft. I wear my romper so much, my hubby has been noticing the repeats..which he never does...!! read more

I love absolutely everything I've ever bought from FE, starting from when they were still in the old loft. Great quality fabric and amazing fit, and you can dress everything up or down. Most of the items are overpriced, but if you know how to work the sales, you can find some good stuff. Not so much anymore now that they have upgraded to a real storefront and gotten rid of many of the sale bins :( Make sure you give them your name when you buy something, and have them start you a "card." When you purchase a certain amount (full-priced items only), you get a discount on your next purchase (15% off I think). It's not much, but every discount counts! read more

Beautifully cut dresses, soft fabrics, pretty colors, and amazing sale bins? Fighting Eel Headquarters FTW! The sale bins are usually priced from about $50 sometimes all the way down to $20, which is such a great steal. Their old location used to sell unique pieces that were not part of the actual collection, but were more experimental and unique, but I'm not sure if they are still doing it. Although the brand is pretty pricey side, I think an amazing dress is well worth the price! They also have amazing soft tanks and shorts that are pretty reasonably priced. Alas this love hate relationship with this store has come the point where I am going to start saving every dollar I can to buy at least one item from here. I missed out on their sample sale and didn't realize that they extended their sample sale another week. Oh wells next time. There are two things everyone must know about this store #1-You will experience sticker shock this is not Forever 21 #2-You will be super happy with any purchase from here because the quality of their clothes are what you would expect from the prices they go for I had my eye on this cute little dress called the Dress Hopper. Top half of the dress is pretty plain jane but on the bottom is a bright coral trim that is absolutely adorable! The last time I came here I had really good customer service. But this time I didn't really get a hello or welcome. It took a good while until someone actually acknowledged me and usually I really don't care about stuff like that but if I'm going to potentially be paying 100 plus dollars for one item in the store I would like to feel welcomed. There was this one girl that kept following me around and just kept staring at me. Later on she helpped some Japanese tourist so that's when she finally left me alone. That was weird. Whenever my husband and I cruise to Hawaii, one of our first stops is to Fighting Eel. This year was no exception. FE has beautiful clothing and the salesperson, Sarah, who helped me could not be more helpful, personable and wonderful. I'm 66 and can easily be ignored by a lot of salespeople but Sarah was truly wonderful to, not only me but, my husband. The clothing at FE is of great quality and the tops I bought a few years ago still look brand new. I love their style! My only wish is that we had a FE in the Seattle area. On a recent jaunt downtown, I happened to pass by the "new" Fighting Eel Headquarters. I say "new" because it's new for me...Even though this location has been open for about a year, it was my first time checking it out. I've been trying to keep most of my shopping in the window category but after catching a glimpse of the uber cute tops & dresses calling out to me from the storefront, I found myself pushing open the glass doors & stepping inside. If you know Fighting Eel, you know that their clothing fits as though it was custom made for your body. The soft & luxe material clings in all the right places & has a little slouch where you need it. Body conscious & classic cuts. Basic colors, as well as bright, fun, on-trend prints. Can you tell I'm madly in love with this line? I'd own every piece if my wallet allowed. Which brings me to my next point: this stuff ain't cheap. A regular priced dress can run you anywhere from $150-$200...but ladies, it's money well spent. You'll wear the heck out of these clothes because they're so darn cute & amazingly versatile. I walked out of the store with my new Ozzy top in black, my wallet $134 lighter & not a bit of buyer remorse because it was worth every penny. Not ready to dish out over a bill for a dress or top? Wait for their sample sales. You can get pieces from past seasons for as little as $20-$30. Sure, the prints may be from last season but the cuts are timeless. The service here is wonderful as well. The ladies here are sweet, friendly & helpful...Their outfits also serve as quick lessons on fashion. None of that snooty attitude you may find at other pricey boutiques. It's about time I give Fighting Eel an update that was way overdue... It's now 2016, my last review was 2014 and a LOT has changed since then. I've gained and loss weight more than one person should and the fustration of buying clothes all the time to cater to my seesaw body type is annoying. Now fast forward to an event I totally forgot about, lets just say I forgot the event was the night of... Dinner was a 6pm, it was 2pm and I had no chance of making it home to get dressed to go back out. Luckily Fighting Eel is seriously my backyard of my office which is was my holy grail and savior! They always had and still do have a great selection of clothes that make you sound like a record player on repeat..."Ohh, that's cute!" "I like this..."Oh, wait what about this one!" But yet, the price still just hits that nerve part of your system that just doesn't let you purchase the garment outright... Then you see it, sale/reduced rack! This my friends was the line, hook, and reel in the deal of a forever shopper... Honestly after buying that first dress on sale, you really start to understand why people pay the price for what you get. Fighting Eel is a small, local, well crafted store with the best selection of clothes. I've always heard stories from friends of being a loyal shopper since the beginning and as a witness to their clothes, they really never go out of style or fade which does make the price worth the quality. I love the amazing, friendly staff here that always greets you not just like a customer, but a friend which makes shopping way more enjoyable and fun! Fighting Eel is perfect for the island girl. Cute, easy to throw on dresses make you instantly cute and ready for any adventure. Simple, subtle silhouettes. I have to say I miss those crazy warehouse sales and those infamous bins (because who doesn't love getting Fighting Eel on sale?). My favorite boutique in Honolulu. Haven't been to the Kahala branch but like both Kailua and downtown stores. Sales reps are pretty good in both. Downtown seems to have a bigger selection but honestly, I shop in both, just to make sure I get the sizes I need. Love the prints, especially the tropical flowers, really easy wear and wash. I always keep an eye out on the website for their new collections and the sales, to clear out older inventory, are pretty good as you can get a discount on top of marked down prices. read more

They have a decent selection of items from clothes to accessories to candles and books. But OVERPRICED! I bought a Cameron Hawaii clutch for $35 but I found out other stockists sell them for $25. Their return policy is not the best either because all accessories are FINAL SALE. So I couldn't return the clutch. Ugh! Their customer service wasn't too friendly and kind of unwelcoming. I went on a Tuesday noon... it wasn't that busy but there were four people working. Only one greeted me and offered help, I think her name was Summer? Everyone else was pretty snobby. If I could suggest something to FE, at least justify your prices with excellent customer service. read more

I am torn about this store. I have shopped here about five times. I really love the merchandise but I often feel that the staff is not friendly. I have never once been greeted, even when I've been the only customer in the store. The checkout process is usually a little more personable but overall I don't go there as often if I would if the experience was more pleasant. They sent me a size medium dress that did not seem tailored or custom fitted to me at all, it was WAY too big and not according to my measurements. It looked nothing like their picture and when I spoke to their customer service about this, they were rude and said that all sales are final. They did not want to work with me. They suggested that I pay for someone else to tailor my dress to me or that I pay to ship it back to them and get it actually tailored to my size. For $180.00 I did not get what I paid for. read more

So here I am again... sitting at my desk with my newly purchased Fighting eel top and dress in hand and I felt I needed to finally write a followup to my old review. Fighting Eel moved awhile ago now and now sits nearby Fashionista's Market, Fort Street Mall (look for the Subway), Hawaii theatre... Basically, go google it and you'll figure it out where it is. Super close to fort street mall though and after you skinny'd yourself up for shopping you can go walk down the street o let them eat cupcakes and gorge on some deliciousy-oso cupcakes. Ok back to what I came to write about. Fighting Eel never ceases to amaze me. I still love their clothes although I've been restraining on clothing shopping expeditions this last year or so but I've always loved the simplicity yet fashion-foward style they seem to come up with. I always love their print pieces but geez... they always sell out fast. Today I went to get the fish print from Resort 2011 and sure enough, they sold out like... months ago. I have no idea why I waited so long so now, gotta make do with the deals I got. At least the things I got were on sale (all sales final, but wasn't planning on returning them anyways) so I'm pretty content with the purchases. The floorplan is open and they have more than just their own brand in their store which I like alot more than their own shop. It's nice to be able find a f.e. top and then find a super swinging pant to go with it or a flowy beach dress... the options are endless. I'm really happy that they've changed things up over there. The girls that work here are friendly and very on top of it. Can't find the size/style you're looking for? They'll check the Kailua location. I see all ages of people/women there so I'm glad their brand reaches to different demographics... They're clothing is both work appropriate but casual and party perfect too... I just wish it was a lil bit friendlier to my wallet cuz I really love their clothing but now, I really have to pick and choose my favorite items to purchase. I miss Kerrie there but now that Kerrie's doing the Kailua thing (yes! Thank you for opening so close to me!!!) I'm excited to visit the Kailua shop more often... It's probably not a good thing that the downtown location is within walking distance for me, but oh the clothes! They always have a great selection and the ladies that work here are always so helpful and friendly. I am currently obsessed with this store. I am leaving a 5 star review for all the FE locations. Amazing customer service and quality clothing. A bit pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. You can do phone orders if there is a item you love. They give you a tote bag with purchase. A good tip is to bring the bag every time you shop so you can receive a little discount ;) definitely check them out. The clothing is versatile meaning it can be used as casual or comfy business/going out attire. I wish more locations would open up :P read more
