    Nice patio

Cuisine and service worthy of this dog-friendly venue's high Yelp ratings. Our party of four, with dog in tow, was looking for a good meal on our way from Newport Beach to Carlsbad. San Clemente was about halfway in terms of distance, but pragmatically it felt much closer because traffic on Route 5 South began backing up in the middle of Camp Pendleton. I searched Yelp for dog-friendly restaurants in San Clemente and found Fig 313, which allows dogs on its patio. I liked the description: fresh, local ingredients and a fusion of European culinary traditions and American favorites, nestled within a 1927 landmark. When we arrived, we found a beautiful little restaurant and an attractive, comfortable patio complete with old stone, lush plantings, vines, heat lamps, and a fire pit. The staff cheerfully turned on both the lam and fire pit when our California friend said she was cold. This is a constant source of amusement for me, since the temperature was 72 degrees at the time. We shared an appetizer that sounded especially tasty: Goat Cheese Fondue - caramelized shallots, Granny Smith apples, grilled bread It came with apple slices and crostini. The crostini was perfectly toasted and made a great accompaniment to the absolutely delicious goat cheese fondue. The attentive wait staff noticed we had finished the crostini while some fondue remained. When they asked whether we wanted more, we said yes, and soon finished off both the extra crostini and the remaining fondue. For our entrées, we ordered: * Braised Short Rib - boneless, served with braised cabbage, croquette, and apple mustard crème fraîche * Fig Wagyu Burger - Chavrie goat cheese, fig marmalade, arugula with Truffle Fries * Chicken Not Pie - half chicken, semi-boneless, savory bread pudding, velouté sauce, fresh herbs * Lamb Ragu Pasta - slow-braised lamb simmered in a rich tomato and red pepper sauce, topped with garlic lemon yogurt and fresh herbs, served over fresh pasta My lamb ragu was excellent, the rich sauce paired with pasta cooked perfectly al dente. I sampled every dish and found them all nicely executed. I would happily reorder any of them. The truffle fries, which were shared by all, were hot, crunchy, and delicious. The staff was cheerful, highly attentive, and completely on their game. They refilled water glasses multiple times, checked on our meals, and responded immediately to every request. If I lived nearby, Fig 313 would be in regular rotation, they should open a restaurant in Boston or Providence!

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in San Clemente! I love everything about this restaurant... It is situated in a historic building, just south of Palizada. They have both inside and outside dining, but the outside dining is my favorite. When you sit outside you feel like you've been transported to a European village. The trellis is covered with beautiful lilacs, the fireplace is cozy and the church behind the restaurant makes for a beautiful backdrop! Not only is the atmosphere fantastic but I've never had bad service. Tonight we were lucky enough to sit outside next to the fire place. Our waiter came over quickly and took our drink orders and told us the specials. All the dishes are contemporary American cuisine with a European twist...crafted using fresh, vibrant, and locally sourced ingredients. We started with one of the nightly specials, which was Hamachi Crudo, it was excellent! Along with that we tried the Goat Cheese Fondue. Then we moved on to dinner with two of us having the nightly special of Halibut topped with Arugula Salad. Another had the.Braised Short Ribs and the other had the Lamb Ragu Pasta. For dessert with tried the Fig Butter Cake and a Chocolate Pot de Crème... everything was delicious! If you are looking for a delicious meal or a romantic night out, I highly recommend this location!

Could not love this place more for the delicious gourmet food, ambiance- outdoors, lovely decor, and great service. Dog friendly patio, great music selection. Been here twice for special occasions. Both times were memorable. Food, drinks, dessert. All amazing! Wish we lived closer.

If happiness had a flavor, I'm pretty sure it tastes like dinner at Fig 313. My wife and I enjoyed an absolutely fantastic evening here. The short rib I ordered was delicious. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly, the kind that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. We grabbed a spot on the patio, and it turned out to be the perfect. Fig 313 nailed it on all fronts. Highly recommend.

5 Stars all around for this restaurant! Incredible & tasty food, beautiful atmosphere, and amazing service. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all so good. Gus, the owner of the restaurant, stopped by to say hi. He was so kind, humble and down to earth. Our server Mikey was so sweet and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists. We had a beautiful experience!

I was dying to try this place with my fiance for months but finally ended up going with my girl friends. 1. service is spot on, it is such a quaint little restaurant with limited seating (good) and everyone we interacted with was so friendly. I'd call it a step above casual but you can certainly dress up also. I cannot recall our servers name (he was polish) but he was awesome and recommended some great dishes 2. food - we split two of the filet mignon specials, 2 cesar salads and 2 fries ( girl dinner) everything we had was SO good and i'd honestly come back just for the fries 3. I had the lychee drink and asked them to sub tequila instead and they obliged. the only hiccup was my friends espresso martini was pretty much all milk. everyone else loved their drinks will return! highly recommend

Was underwhelmed last time we paid Fig313 a visit. Menu seemed to change (or maybe there are different items for lunch vs dinner) but something about the creativeness of dishes has gone slightly down. Quality is still there, so maybe we'll make another trip out to see if this past visit was just a one-time thing.

We started out late for dinner, walked down Del Mar, didn't really see anything we liked. Drove down South El Camino, but the place we went to see didn't have much of a patio. After we came back to where we were staying, we saw Fig 313. Sometimes what you are looking for is right in front of you! Friendly greeting, and they were not busy, though it was 8 pm. We pretty much had the patio all to ourselves and of course, Cako didn't mind...LOL! They have a very interesting menu, and everything looks delicious! They also have a great wine list! They had a Malbec that I am familiar with and we ordered that. We both started with the fig salad. This was really good! The pickled white raisins were a nice surprise! Love candied walnuts which pair nicely with the bleu cheese. And of course, the figs and apples bring it all together. A great salad! I ordered the special oso bucco. This was really tender and served on a bed of spinach and kale and came with bleu cheese mashed potatoes. One thing that I loved was the marrow from the bone. This was one of those decadent meals that one should treat themselves to every so often. Price was pretty steep but I'm on vacation. Daveed had the tender braised short rib with carrot puree and red cabbage. He thought it was one of the best short ribs he's had in a while. Our server Andrew, was great! Very personable and we had a great discussion about dogs. Cako laid down twice during our meal and only does that when she really likes a place! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood to do something special! Cako Approves!

How did we not know about Fig@313? This restaurant has been here for about 9 years and we went to it for the first time. We had a great time as we enjoyed a family birthday. We were seated quickly and picked to dine outside with great lights and a fire pit. Our waiter, Andrew, took great care of us and was very friendly. The drinks and food came out quickly and was delicious. All four of us enjoyed our meals and the food was tasty, while the portions were perfect. We will come back again. Give it a try!

The octopus plate was very good. It was cooked to perfection! I've seen a lot of octopus over my time and this is the best!

I decided to go treat myself to dinner and it was amazing. I haven't been at the restaurant in over five years. A lot has changed. There's more flowers and more wildlife. I love it that everyone kept checking up on everyone the waiters the hostess it was very refreshing my waiter was very nice. Sadly, I forgot his name. Sorry dude my bad but I did love all the food and the Georgia peach was so good.

Fig 313 is definitely a gem nestled just a few minutes away from the pier! Quiet, quaint & intimate. We dined in for our anniversary on a Tuesday. The Spanish style ambiance created a cozy yet simplistic setting. All staff were very inviting and attentive. We started with house bread & their signature fig butter-- a light, yet sweet spongy starter. We also got the bone marrow which came with grilled toast to spread on the savory garlicky flavors. The "cherry on top" was the unexpected ice cream gesture to celebrate our anniversary. It's one of those things that most restaurants overlook when you make the reservation, but so meaningful when they take the time to acknowledge such a special occasion. We definitely recommend coming in to enjoy Fig 313, & we look forward to exploring new seasonal items!

I've been living in San Clemente for over 6 years and can't believe this was the first time trying FIG313. We arrived late evening and were seated right away. Our server was attentive and gave great recommendations. Bone Marrow App five stars I ordered the chicken entree (I'm usually a steak guy) chicken was amazing, hot, juicy, perfect Highly recommended I WILL be back soon

I came here on a Sunday night and it was pretty dead. The restaurant is extremely small and tight - inside only had a few tables and the rest were bar seats. It's a good thing they have a patio area because that's the only dining area that could fit most patrons or larger parties. Just don't expect a view of the dock or harbor, as the restaurant is surrounded by apartment and office complexes. The restaurant itself is located underneath a building complex. I feel like the space is more fitting for a coffee shop instead of a restaurant. Even small restaurants in Europe have more space than this. Food quality was good and ingredients were pretty fresh, but the flavors were just off. For some dishes, the combination of flavors just don't go well together while other dishes lacked flavor and needed more salt. We ordered scallop with rice and tuna crudo to start. The tuna was bland, lacked citrus and acidity while the scallop wasn't charred enough, was undercooked and translucent. For entrees, we had branzino and steak with polenta. The branzino was a total miss and the worst dish of the entire meal. It was smothered in some kind of weird bland curry sauce that completely ruined the freshness of the fish. And the layers of random mint leaves on top of the fish added nothing to this dish. The mint was better off being mixed into a light olive oil sauce instead of having some odd curry sauce with mint topped on the fish. It tasted more like an Indian dish- nothing European-inspired about it at all. As for the steak, it was not charred enough and had super dry fibrous mushroom on top of it. The mushroom added nothing to the steak and it tasted like eating bark. Even the olive oil cake tasted quite stale and the fruit compote on top was way too sweet. The best dish overall was the affogato ice cream with espresso. Service was very friendly but oddly slow considering there was hardly anyone there. My drink came out after food was served. Price is definitely on the higher end and I personally don't feel it's worth the price.

Let's pause for the bread course. This bite sized piece of heaven is otherworldly. They need to serve more of it throughout the meal. The chef's starter was lovely and then we settled into our meal. It will be European style service so definitely let them know if you need to hit a show or movie. From the four courses we tried a bit of everything: Beef tartar (wonderful and innovative version of this dish), foraged mushrooms, charred cabbage, beet passionfruit salad, filet mignon, duck confit, and the only dessert that matters: charred butter cake. All were stellar!! Not a miss on the menu and all at 5 star quality. We also had tea and a cocktail, again both were outstanding. The service needs refinement though. It's a step below Michelin level fine dining indeed. I brought two bottles of wine, corkage $25 each, and never once was our glasses filled. I filled up everyone's glasses all night. This was irritating as not only did I pay corkage, but they added $10 tip to corkage with automatic 20% tip at end. The server did not deserve that extra $10 although she was lovely throughout the meal except for one more misstep. After the main meal was over, I wanted to have some more of that wondrous bread and was told the kitchen was closed. We were never warned about this. Every restaurant tells the guests at least 15 minutes before the kitchen closes. Other than those minor mistakes, this was a fine dining meal not found anywhere else in this part of S Cal/Riverside County. Highly recommended!!

Just wow! The food was so amazing, the flavor profiles were out of this world…read more I came for a food and wine pairing with Altisima wine and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every course. The owner was delightful as was the chef. We had Oyster, followed by a stone fruit salad I was worried about until I took one bite and ate every bit of it. The next course was duck confit followed by filet mignon then dessert. I usually have pictures for my reviews, but I was so thoroughly enjoying my food I plum forgot to take a picture. Every good and wine pairing was perfect. To be fair I passed this place a few times, but never really knew they served food because of the name. You need this food in your life. My husband and I will be back.

What a hidden gem!! Chef Joo really impressed us with his…read moretasting menu as it was hit after hit. The food was generous with high quality ingredients (like the Uni pasta that was surrounded with uni sauce, a fat piece of uni on top and decorated with grated dried uni). The flavors were well thought out - by taste and by visual, it was evident how much care was put into each dish. We scrapped every dish for every last bit of sauce. Service was extremely attentive and well informed about each course. Chef Joo even came to greet us towards the end of the meal. It was insightful to hear about his vision and philosophy for his craft. We will be come back to try everything on the menu!

What a disapointing experience. The positive…read more The initial reception from the server and the Hamachi Crudo. It quickly went downhill from there. The folks seated next to us ordered the lamb chop medium and it came out medium rare. It looked great but was slightly underdone for what they expected. Next, my wife's lamb came out and was grey to the color and cooked beyond medium. We asked for another dish to be fired. Instead the chef sent the server back out and asked that my wife sample the lamb as the grey color was caused by the sauce rather than the meat being overcooked. It was overcooked. In many years of fine dining we have rarely sent back an entree but when we have the restaurant has always made the effort to correct concern not blame the customer. Diners at both of our adjoining tables were also surprised by how the restaurant handled the issue. I had the Uni Pasta which was very salty to the point that you could not taste the Uni. We were hoping to add another nice dining experience restaurant to our go to places. Wild Artichoke will not be on this list.
