I forgot to take a photo before I devoured the food!

Loved this place! Our cheese platter was amazing and so were the entrees. We had prime rib and salmon and shared them. Staff was super friendly and patient. Definitely worth a visit! And less "stuffy" than the main restaurant.

The happy hour is SO good and affordable. I love this little bar, it's so cozy and welcoming. The food is incredible and the drinks are too. Bartenders are very nice and attentive. My favorite happy hour spot in OC!

This is a cute, cozy gastropub connected to Five Crowns. We came for happy hour but didn't realize it was only Monday - Thursday. So we will definitely be back to give it a try. We ended up getting the Prime & Proper Toastie which was four minutes prime rib sandwiches. This was great to share amongst two people. We also had the Duck wings which have a gochujang marinade. So yummy! Lastly, the Mac & Cheese was good but I could go without it next time. For martinis, I recommend the seasonal Jessica Rabbit which was like a raspberry lemon drop. The Secret Garden is on their everyday menu and was a lavender lemon drop.

Four of us dropped by SideDoor (the bar adjacent to Five Crowns) in CDM for HH. There were positives and negatives: Positives: The staff is super nice & accommodating; The mussels, burger, prime rib and fish & chips (latter two not pictured), were really good. Negatives: The HH oysters weren't that fresh; The food took a while; We ordered an avo app and fries off the HH menu. The items never arrived; The dessert we shared (not pictured) looked like a sundae. It was basically whipped cream with meringue on top and a small cookie underneath. We were not happy it cost $16; I called in advance to see if they have TNF and was told they have TVs that show TNF (I was meeting biz associates for HH on a Thu, and we wanted to watch the game). In reality, they don't have Prime, and thus no TNF; All in all, a positive experience. I look forward to visiting SideDoor and Five Crowns again in the near future.

We walked into SideDoor on the night before Thanksgiving. We didn't have reservations and it was crowded but we were lucky they could accommodate us. The restaurant is small and has a bar. There's a cute area by the fireplace to sit and the restaurant was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Abdallah was our server and he was great. I ordered the White Lotus cocktail which was refreshing and sweet. We ordered the wedge salad chopped to start. We had the kitchen split the salad which was an additional charge but resulted in nice portions for each of us. It was one of the best salads I've ever eaten so if you like wedge salads I'd recommend ordering it here. For entrees, we ordered the prime rib sandwich and upgraded to fries for an extra charge and the Crown cut prime rib plate. The portions were a good size and we were happy with our selections. Even though we were full, we saved room for dessert and ordered the CC Brown's hot fudge sundae. Our meal was great and the service was awesome. Side Door is definitely a good spot to go to if you're in Newport Beach. Make reservations if you can.

My fave place for craft cocktails. The bartenders are awesome and have creative recipes. Bar seating is limited with seating for about 8 people. They have a slightly different menu than 5 crowns. I like the more casual atmosphere on this side of the restaurant. Food is delicious. Can't go wrong with the calamari and any of the steaks.

    A perfect French Onion soup!

The food, ambience, and service were impeccable! April C really took care of us! She was very polite and welcoming!

Always a fun place to go for some drinks and light fare. Has the feel of an old British pub. Cocktails are excellent, as is the cheese and charcuterie board. They have a charcuterie "concierge" who arranges everything and comes over to walk you through it. Also had the avocado mash - super.

    Prime rib sandwich! Loved it

Food overall was pretty decent. I got the fish and chips (good but not mind-blowing) and the lobster bisque (very good). Our table also got a cheese platter (pretty good). I liked that it had a variety of toppings like almonds, finger pickles, mustard, honey, and jam. The space itself was very cozy, like a comfy British home setting. I like the decor there more than the main restaurant. Only thing I have to say is it took a while for us to place our orders. They came to deliver drinks and appetizers but took almost 40 mins for them to ask us if we were ready to order.

Been a long time that i wanted to try this place. Cutest, authentic design and vibe! You feel very British/Brilliant!! Please keep the accent They sometimes have private parties on the other side but they have same kitchen and menu! Their special cocktail menu is very interesting. I got the house old fashion, very smokey and presentable! Very friendly and knowledgeable server! The cheese board station is very entertaining as well. We got the stake and french onion soup, both very tasty.

I made reservations for our party and this was my friends first time dining at Lawry's sister restaurant. Founded in 1965. I haven't been here recently, but it hasn't changed a bit and is still a cozy and comfortable place to dine. We started off with a bottle of cabernet, complimentary bread, and two of their Pride of the Crowns salads. Since it was my friend's birthday I steered him into ordering the 16 oz Henry VIII Cut, cream corn, Cremini Mushrooms, Yorkshire pudding and spinach. I went with the same meal, and the prime rib was one of the best I've had in a long time. Tender and tasted great even when I pan fried my leftover prime rib. He forgot our order and I had to remind him several times to bring items clearly ordered. My drink was empty for a majority of my meal, and I had dirty dishes left around for far longer than is acceptable. Overall my husband's birthday dinner was fun because of our friends, but unfortunately we will not be going back to 5 crowns. It did not feel worth it at all. The food was only OK, our entrées came out luke warm, including the disappointing sides. The mash potatoes were flavorless, and the cream spinach was lack luster. The mac and cheese was piping hot, and delicious. I will also give credit to the server's assistant who helped him. He was more present than the server, but honestly that was a pretty low bar to begin with.

The texture and overall quality were good, but it was a bit lacking in flavor, even with malt vinegar and tartar sauce. The steak fries were crispy and not overly salty, which I enjoyed. And not just because it has longevity, there's a reason that it has sustained power. This place is probably one of the most authentic Irish pubs I've been to. Having been to Ireland. I can attest that this is right there with a standard pub in a small town. Which makes it wonderful. The people that run the place, especially Paul, is one of the reasons why I keep coming back here. He's personable, funny, and no-nonsense right. I like his way of thinking and his approach to customer service a second to none. Now let's talk about the food and drinks. From a drink standpoint. You cannot go wrong with this place, the drinks are thoughtfully made, this guy knows how to pour a beer. As far as food goes. In recent years, I've been working in nearby Newport Beach and heard about Gulliver's Prime Ribs Of Beef from many people, in addition to having driven by it on several occasions since it was directly across the street from the John Wayne Airport. Named after Jonathan Swift's 18th Century satirical English novel, "Gulliver's Travel", that followed the adventures of Capt. Lemuel Gulliver, the theme was held throughout from the cuisine, drinks, decor, and attire. Sadly, our party of six was here to pay final respects to this nearly 60-year-old restaurant at the same location during its final weekend of business (property owners decided not to extend the lease). Would we have a prime meal at Gulliver's last hurrah!? PURCHASE(S) Penicillin Cocktail ($18.00): Considered the owner's favorite cocktail, this was made with Compass Box Great King Street Artist blended scotch whisky, ginger-honey, lemon juice, and The Peat Monster blended malt scotch whisky, this heavily-based scotch whisky drink had the sweeter elements that helped smooth the heady bite and left you with a lip-smacking finish - cheers! Earl Of Bartlett Cocktail ($20.00): Crafted with Grey Goose La Poire vodka, Chambord, pineapple juice, and a pear slice (I received a lemon peel instead), this sugary sweet elixir was like liquid candy that went down way too easily - yummy! Gulliver's Classic Prime Rib Dinner - Traditional English Cut (thinly sliced English style) w/Famous Creamed Corn + Creamed Spinach + Whipped Horseradish + Au Jus + Yorkshire Pudding ($58.00): I'd been eating burgers the entire week, so I opted for this supposed smaller cut of beef. Prepared to a pink medium, it was juicy, succulent, and paired well with the homemade whipped horseradish I slathered it with. I ate red meat only occasionally, so this was a treat for sure! The creamed corn was like a drug that I couldn't get enough of (they brought out more!), the creamed spinach was silky smooth with no lumps, and the Yorkshire pudding was fine, which I used as a boat to eat the creamed vegetables. A tremendous entree at a very reasonable price! Apple Bread Pudding ($14.00): A hearty dessert with girth and cinnamon galore, this spongy-like dish stuck to your ribs in a good way while I wanted to slurp up the sauce! Non-Cash Fee 3.50% ($3.36): More businesses are passing along this expense to customers - oh well. SERVICE As melancholy as this final weekend was for the entire staff, they were up to the challenge for the throngs of guests who were likely here for the same reason as us. From the host and hostess, the bartender, our heavily-endowed waitress, and eager bussers, everyone had all hands on deck. My drinks at the bar were made quickly, and the food at the table arrived in unison less than ten minutes after we ordered. After that, it was a whirl of staff buzzing about throughout the restaurant. Everyone did a very good job - cheerio! PARKING (FREE): They shared a large private lot with a now closed El Torito with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Every bit an English pub theme mixed with all-things "Gulliver's Travels", it was like they plucked it out from merry old England. From the bustling Lemuel's Pub with a good selection of scotch whisky, the expansive dining areas filled wall-to-wall with large round and square tables, a rustic warmth of English charm, and the many paintings and such that focused on our exploratory hero, raising a pint was a must! Minimal natural lighting came through the windows while electric ceiling lights covered the rest. There were a few TVs only at the bar while the chatter and clamor of conversations filled the air. ATTIRE Casual dressy, I got away with an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops. OVERALL I had a fond farewell for Gulliver's Prime Ribs Of Beef and its entire staff who have used this institutional restaurant to serve the local community for nearly 60 years for a myriad of celebratory events and meals. I was glad to finally dine/drink here but certainly not under these conditions. May the owners and entire staff take a long-deserved rest, reassess life, and know that they made a difference in many peoples' lives. My meal was wonderful, the prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was old-world wholesome, and the service was heartfelt. The menu selection was limited but precise, and the bar had happy hour MO-FR 4pm-7pm. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $116.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
