OMG, I'm so glad I live close to this restaurant. This place has a laid-back, cool,no-frills vibe that really works. My husband and I split the fried chicken sandwich/pork belly banh mi. Food was delicious, once you got them. We waited for our sandwich and soup for 50 minutes. Server did zero check-in in the interim. Three other tables were seated around the same time as us and they were served way before us. We felt like most clients were locals. In town visiting my Marine son and we were looking for something a little different. Checked out the menu and reviews on Yelp and we knew it would be good based on what y'all had written. They are super friendly and we picked a table outside in the sun. Our waiter was there anytime we needed and helpful with suggestions. Decided on the brussel sprouts as a starter then we both order the 1/2 Angus house burger and side salads. Those Brussel Sprouts came out looking amazing. They tasted far better than they even looked. Just enough crunchy and packed a serious flavor punch. We scarfed them down just in time to have the burgers come out. I like mine medium/well and my son medium/rare. They nailed the cook! Sank our teeth in and we both were overwhelmed by flavors and taste. I don't get a lot of feedback from son that's 21 but he was sure to tell me how good his was. I would have eaten two of them if I could have fit it in my belly. I love beignets so had to order them. A little different take from the NOLA beignets I'm used to but oh so good. That lemon custard type sauce on the side made it over the top though. We may even have to make a re-visit before I head home. BRAVO!!! This is when a 6th is needed! read more

A friend and I tried this non-descript restaurant because they had vegan AND meat dishes. We were not disappointed! I had a burger and my friend had the vegan sandwich. The burger was awesome, but then I got a bite of the vegan sandwich and was blown away. The food is outstanding here. The hometown beach restaurant vibe is ideal for me. Very laid back. They have a good beer selection on tap, but I don't drink so can't comment on that I highly recommend MRK Public for a unique dining experience! Seems like all restaurants are getting pricey - welcome to California - this place is no exception. $17 for a burger or sandwich. read more

We tried this place for the first time, it did not disappoint!! We've heard about it so much from our kids. Instead of dining in we called in our order and got it to go. The 4 guys that were working were ALL SO KIND!!! It was the eve before Super Bowl. Our chicken sandwiches didn't disappoint and they disappeared rather quickly. There were so many flavors that all came together. The taste was so outstanding! We can't wait to come back. read more

The food is amazing! This is my second time at this restaurant and the food didn't disappoint. I do have one complaint however... this one complaint is enough to take away one star for me.. sometimes it's the little things that count for me. I ordered the wings.. (Amazing) my husband ordered the chicken sandwich (amazing) *** my husband asked if they could cut his burger in half. They charged us $2 additional to cut his burger in half even though our entire table ordered meals.. what the heck? Not cool. Still like to food but it left me in a bad note. What an incredible dinner! Our first time at MRK Public and we were so unexpectedly and happily blown away by everything about our experience! Our Server, Justin was excellent! His friendly personality along with his professionalism and superb recommendations made our dining experience even better. The Food itself was truly MAGICAL! I strongly recommend you BEG sous chef, Logan to make his mouth watering creation, his Smokey Tortilla Soup. How can anyone possibly make Brussel Sprouts taste that flavorful? And yet, he did! From the Cucumber Mint homemade salad dressing to the Brown Betty Sweet Potato Cake dessert, we were served a delectable treasure of unique flavors and delights! We will definitely be back for more! Great unique food and amazing service! We first tried to dine on a Monday and the wait was super long and they weren't offering takeout or reservations but luckily when we came back on Tuesday there was no wait! You can called ahead to check before visiting. We ordered the veggie chili cheese fries which were topped with Indian lentils and so good. I ordered the bahn mi sandwich with pork belly and it was delicious and filling! The have a great outdoor seating area and a full beer list. read more

I have never ever devoured chicken as did the special "chicken ribs" Chef Rayne conjured up here on Valentine's Day. Wow. Just wow. His three step process involves grilling, smoking, slow cooking. Served with a perfectly balanced sweet-spicy sauce and don't get me started on the coleslaw. I would eat a bowl of the cilantro infused coleslaw for a meal. A huge bowl. My go to here is the Bon Mai chicken sandwich but his specials keep me coming back. This place is elevated casual but the menu is something beyond. Highly recommend. read more

MRK public is great. their side salad is delicious. what I get is the Tofu Banh Mi. The flavors are so good , and I can't believe how well make the Tofu, it's charred and delicious. Hands down best preparation I've had of Tofu. I get the sandwich without aioli because I am vegan and it's still flavorful and delicious. I do wish they made the aioli vegan, that would be great. I still love the sandwich though. read more

The brussel sprouts tasted delish. Grilled and crispy sprout leaves seasoned with hoisen sauce, black vinegar aioli and chives. So good we ordered more. The Dal Makhani black lentil stew was also delicious and hearty flavored with India spices. Beer on tape. We liked the mosaic IPA. On a Sunday at 6PM MRK was full at the small bar, all tables and booths busy inside and outside. Outside space was cozy and warm with heaters. The wait was short. The servers were floating around dropping off plates and taking orders while the cooks in the open kitchen were stretching their limbs left and right keeping the pans on the burners and the orders popping out. I can't believe I've never left a review, this is years coming. This is our favorite restaurant in San Clemente. We have been coming since they opened and they somehow have gotten better and retained their amazing food. My husband and I love the small menu (that's always a good sign of a great restaurant in our opinion). You literally can't go wrong with anything you order. For starters, we love the poke bowl, the wings (and I don't eat wings normally), and the Tuscan toast. The mussels are good too! For mains If you're a meat lover, they have the best burger in San Clemente according to my husband, they also have a pastrami sandwich, I think it's a special that my husband loves as well. We also like the fried chicken sandwich and any of the salads (the only restaurant we will order a salad at because they're actually good lol) For vegetarians or vegans, the tofu bahn mi is my FAV. You could also make it a salad if you are gluten free. Also the Dal Makhani is AMAZING. Don't skip out on their fries, they're also incredible and for dessert I recommend the beignets. They have a great selection of beers, and I recommend also ordering a bottle of Rose, it's not too sweet, I've taken a picture of it I like it so much. As if the food wasn't good enough to make you come back, the staff is awesome, from the servers to the kitchen crew everyone is always so friendly and welcoming. A friend recommended MRK Public about a year ago. I finally tried it tonight and and loved the food. I tried the Braised Short Rib sandwich which I loved. It was on a fresh roll. I wish they were open for lunch. Great Beer and wine selection. Atmosphere is casual. Prices are great for the quality. I want to try a couple other items. I'll be back. read more

We also started with a basket of sourdough slices which came out toasted and hot. Next was the Boeuf Bourguignon was just delicious! They definitely slow cooked the beef as advertised. And also a Mediterraneenne omelette w/some added Gruyère-the egg alone was probably the best fluffy omelette I've ever had! Everything was cooked with delicacy and care in the quality of the ingredients. You definitely get the quality of food that the prices call for. We will definitely be back because it's good quality food, and pleasant vibe with good service!
