Wow, what a find! We were staying nearby for the weekend and needed some legit breakfast. We found this shop, and I am so glad we did. It's small inside. That's something that appears in countless reviews, so plan accordingly. If they're busy, you'll wait a bit. I ordered the Korean BBQ Pork, and sunny side up eggs. Man, this was such a delicious dish and the eggs were cooked to perfection. It was greasy, slightly spicy, but very well seasoned. I could eat a burrito with this BBQ Pork and I would love it! Of my 33 years on this earth, 28 of those spent living in San Leandro, I'd somehow never set foot in Fifth Wheel despite it being a city institution. I changed that earlier this week, when my husband and I walked over for breakfast/brunch. We arrived just before the brunch rush and managed to grab the last empty table (and one of the last empty spots in the restaurant) before a few other parties showed up after us and had to wait. This place definitely gets busy and seems like it stays busy until closing. The menus have been printed and slid beneath the plexiglass/plastic on the tabletop, though my husband and I had different versions of the menu on our respective sides of the table. So make sure to check whether there's anything you might be missing on the other side. I went with the Korean BBQ breakfast with white rice, eggs over easy, and white toast, while my husband got the chicken fried steak with grits. I also got a side of French toast (four halves, which is the smallest portion you can order a la carte). The food didn't take too long to come out, but one of my only complaints was that there was too much butter on everything (and I'm not a butter hater). They put a pat of butter on top of the rice, which I know is a pretty old school thing to do, but I didn't need it and just wound up sliding it off to the side, which felt wasteful. I would've just told them not to put any on if they'd asked. They also put way too much on the French toast and while I was able to get off most of the excess, some had already soaked into the toast and made one of the pieces just way, way too buttery to want to eat. My husband also had to slide some off of his grits. Butter overload aside, the food was delicious. I was surprised by how spicy the Korean BBQ was (and loved it), and thought it was a great combination with the egg yolk and rice. They were pretty stingy with the rice here, which was kind of annoying, but I wound up having barely enough in the end. The French toast was really tasty. Service was pretty transactional here. No one was rude, but it very much felt like an "eat your food and leave" sort of place. Which I get to an extent -- there's likely rarely a moment where there's no one waiting to eat -- but they could do a little more to make people feel welcome. At the same time, some customers are rude or just inconsiderate, and I imagine that's got to jade the staff to a degree. (Like, for example, please do not seat yourself, guys; I get that you're eager to eat, but trying to sit down at just-vacated seats that haven't even been cleared of the dishes, when you weren't invited to sit down yet, and then copping an attitude with the staff like they did something wrong is not the way to conduct yourself. Wait your turn, be civil.) San Leandro has some solid breakfast spots, and Fifth Wheel is one of them. There's a reason why it's survived so long and has such a loyal following. While it's not the *best* breakfast spot in the city, it's absolutely worth checking out and returning to, especially for that Korean BBQ breakfast. read more

Building is small, sit approx 20-25 people. Service was fast and pricing was decent. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak ($14.95) Brown gravy too salty for my palate. So I scraped it off. Basic chicken fried steak. 2 eggs over medium cooked perfectly, 2 slices of sourdough toast and hash browns perfectly cooked crispy on top. Also had a cup of decaf coffee ($3.95). Honestly my feelings are hurt. I am a huge foodie. The food was already over priced so this experience today sent me ‍. I ordered the exact same thing on 12/23/25 as I did on 1/3/26. Nice little breakfast place. They have about 6 tables and 6 stools at the counter. The tables were full so we grabbed a seat at the counter. Service was friendly and prompt. Simple menu with a good selection of meats, sausages (including chorizo, chicken apple, Turkey and pork sausage) and omelets. We had the Bacon Omelet and Pork Sausage Omelet. Both were cooked well although I would have liked a little more cheese, preferable Jack cheese. I think it was American cheese? The hash browns were cooked perfect, fluffy inside, crisp outside. My husband and I love this place! I happened upon it randomly after and early morning Airport drop off and decided to stop in for coffee. I loved the diner vibe. Simple, unpretentious and very similar to the diners I worked in growing up back east. No frills, no politics, just good food. I went back another time with my husband who also grew up back east. They didn't have home fried potatoes so went out on a limb and ordered the pancakes. I'm not a pancake person. They have the BEST PANCAKES IN TOWN! Light, fluffy and served with real butter. (I wasn't sure at first because you never know with diners). I dream about these pancakes now. And their Ham is so gooood. Generous portions. I'm always full til dinner. My friend wasn't kidding when she said this place was super mom and pop (and small!) After hanging out at one of the local parks my friend suggested we eat here for brunch around 11am. Extremely limited parking, street parking on a busy street. We were lucky enough to find some right out front. About a 5 minute wait when we walked in, every table was full Maybe 6 on the bartop, if I recall just a handful of 4 tops and maybe like two 2 tops .. with extremely little room to move around. We had our sons with us making us a party of 4 and we had to keep telling our sons to be quiet since the space was so small! Seems to be run by a family. It was a Lenten Friday so no meat for me -- my son and I split a milkshake, and the french toast "meal" -- 4 slices of French toast, some bacon, and scrambled eggs. My husband has been raving about this place for a while (he has a soft spot for Korean-owned mom and pop shops) so we decided to bring his parents here when they came to visit. Rating Breakdown: 2/2 Stars for Taste -- Well, they certainly aren't messing around when it comes to their diner comfort food. We ordered a little bit of everything to share and we cleaned our plates. The classics were spot on -- the pancakes were buttery and fluffy, the hash browns and french toast were simultaneously crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The surprising winner of the day was the teriyaki chicken. When my father-in-law ordered it, my husband and I made a face like "Why would you get teriyaki chicken at an American diner?", but he confided in a conspiratorial whisper "If a diner is Korean owned, the teriyaki chicken is going to be good." And he was RIGHT. So juicy and tender, it even came with its own squeeze bottle of extra teriyaki sauce. I don't think we can come here again and NOT order it. 1/1 Stars for Value -- At first glance, the prices look a little steep, around $12-15 per entrée, but let me tell you the portion sizes are HUGE. We ordered four entrees for five people and left so full the food coma took us out for a good 2-3 hours. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- It's a small place with limited seating, definitely better for parties of 4 or less. I found this place almost over 15 years ago and was one of first places I found then tried, during Yelp's infancy years. Seems long ago but not really. I'm still a fan and it still seems like the same Korean family that runs it. The only difference really is the very noticeable price hikes the past decade has brought us. When I first came here pre-2010, 70% of basic breakfast plates were under $10. Now everything is between $15-$20 and they even have a monster Steak n' Eggs plate for $30+! You're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy. Coffee ($3.50/4*) I'm pretty sure this was closer to $2 when I first started coming here. But it is still pretty good coffee, better than most diners. And they've always refilled me pretty well, but they'll always ask first before they refill. Unless they know your pattern, they don't just automatically pour/refill, like some other diners. Linguisa n Eggs ($14ish/4.5*) This is my go-to here. You see back in the day, San Leandro was home to several Portuguese processing plants, with their dense industrial history and one time dense Portuguese immigrant settlement. Having been raised in the east bay most of my life, Linguisa was a common food found in many homes and restaurants. I would actually be very surprised if a breakfast place here in the east bay didn't serve linguisa as a choice for one of their meats. They fry their linguisa nice and crisp here which I love. Theirs is salitier than the ones I buy for my home, but it is also to be expected. What I love about this plate here is that you can get rice as a starch, with brown rice even an option now. Only white rice was available a decade ago. Per my original review, they still offer hashbrowns and grits as well here for a breakfast starch. I can tell the diverse crowd here each has their go-to starches, which is much of the charm here. Steak n' Eggs ($32/4*) When I recently came across this and saw the price, I was a bit floored. But my big-eater buddy ordered it once and I got to see upclose on what you got. Yes, it is crazy expensive now. But man do they give you a seriously hefty portion of food. First off, it is 3 eggs. 2 eggs usually suffice with me. Then this isn't your breakfast portion of steak. Most steak n' eggs plates, the steak is definitely no more 10 oz, with 8 oz being the norm, which is usually a thin cut steak. Here you get a monster dinner sized steak at least 12 oz maybe pushing 14 oz. It is a thick cut NY Strip, and so thick that you can easily get this rare to med-rare. Hard to get those rarer temps on those thin steaks. And there is a serious sear on one of the sides of this steak, which I tend to get giddy for. My only knock was that it was barely seasoned, like I had to do all the seasoning at the table, but it was all in front of me, so quite easy. This is not a steak n' eggs plate for the meek, it may even take a few days off of one's life. But ya know what, I work hard and I play hard, plates like these are my reward for busting my ass. The toast that comes with plates uses a really good bread company. Thick slices with good integrity and chew. Not your bullsh%# thin grocery bread slices. And when I break my runny yolks over my brown rice, and munch on my breakfast meat of choice and to take sips of warm coffee, just sends me to comfort food heaven. Though not perfect, the comfort can still retain that fiver for me. Bring on another decade! read more

This is another hole in the wall spot I'd recommend for breakfast or brunch (they close at 2PM). There are a few street parking spots in front of you get lucky, otherwise you can find some residential parking around the corner. The restaurant is very small and looks like a green residential house from the street so it's easy to miss, but there are usually people waiting to be seated or pick up their food no matter what day of the week it is. The service is really nice and quick. As soon as we are seated, we're asked if we want anything to drink while we look over the menu that is laminated under the class on the table (I think that's really smart). The experience here is very dive-y diner type of place. You get free refills on your hot coffee: just a heads up that their iced coffee comes in a cold brew can. They give you a cup with ice in it. I have no problems with it but just in case anyone feels any type of way about canned coffee, I wanted to give you a quick warning. We always get French toast for the table and I usually get a basic breakfast of 2 eggs over easy, hash browns (the kind that is shredded potatoes and then grilled crispy), sourdough, and I switch between chicken apple sausage and pineapple sausage. Both offer a hint of sweetness to the savory. My gf loves their kbbq pork with rice. It's served with 2 eggs and toast as well. The bbq pork has a bit of a kick from the jalapeño so be careful if you're not into spicy. I will say they're one of the few that serve Korean dishes for brunch so it's a plus for us. Other than that, to be fair, it's an average breakfast/brunch spot that's worth checking out and seeing if it's your jam (pun intended ). Basic breakfasts are great, portions are filling, prices are reasonable, and with small capacity seating, get there early as it is very busy, service is very efficient, and your order is brought to you as it comes off the grill. To me, the best part of the experience at the 5th Wheel is watching how the waitpersons are so organized like they might be "bees coming and going in and out of the hive. They have a decent selection of items to choose from. One of the reasons we go here is because they have grits. Not many restaurants have grits. I usually order the hotlink omelette with the hash browns. My lady loves grits and will usually order something with the side of grits. Today she choose the chicken apple sausage omelette. The restaurant is small, I recommend taking it to go. Limited street parking too, may have to park in the adjacent neighborhood. 3.5/4 stars for the service on this visit. We usually call head as we live about 12 minute away and won't have to wait long when we arrive, but their phone wasn't working. We called about 5 time using the number on their website. I ordered when we arrived and the lady said I would receive a text when my food was ready. I never received the text. 3 1/2 stars - they're not quite a 4 but not a 3 either. This is a diner so expect diner quality food. With that said, it was a good diner breakfast. At 9 am on a Saturday we had about a 15 minute wait. This is due to the limited amount of seating (and could also be due to the lack of choices for breakfast restaurants in San Leandro). The crowd was a good cross section of different ethnicities and ages (my favorite thing about San Leandro!). The staff's really efficient and organized and the space is clean. I got the fresh toast special. The french toast had a tasty egg batter; I really enjoyed it. The eggs and hash browns were pretty standard. My husband ordered the pork chop breakfast special. It's a very large breakfast which includes 2-pork chops and 3-eggs. He felt that it was good, not great. Not sure if we'd come back but it was fun to check out. read more

Food came out fast- hash brown was crispy, chicken fried steak was crispy & covered in gravy- which I personally found to be a little salty. Omelette was yummy but a bit greasy, kind of had indigestion later... Sadly, my over easy eggs were not cooked, as in the egg whites were still clear . You get a side of white rice & eggs! They've got alot of options from linguica, sausage (chicken, beef/pork/pineapple!), hamburger patty, hot link, bacon etc. The staff is friendly!
